Fresh Install: Hidden Folders in Finder not Hidden... Need Help.

I just did a complete reformat/install of 10.5 and did a completely standard install, didn't modify anything. Ran all the updates to 10.5.2, and now folders on the root of my hard drive that are normally hidden are showing up for some reason... it's the "bin" "core" "etc" "private" "bin" "tmp" and a few others. I've tried everything to get them to go away (ran Disk Permissions, booted from the install DVD and ran Disk Utility, etc) and they refuse to go away. Even tried logging in as root and changing the visibility of the folders with File Buddy and that didn't work.
Anyone else have this problem and have a solution?

I had to reinstall a new hard drive and experienced this problem myself, here is the fix I found at

I can confirm that this WORKS.
"Have you just reinstalled Mac OS X Leopard? Are you one of the unlucky ones that now has visible Unix files in your root file system? I sure did, and after digging around a little, it seems to be a bug in the Mac OS X installer -- but it only happens when you install a clean copy of Leopard (not updating). The question however, is how to get rid of them.. Obviously, deleting the folders is NOT an option.
Here's how you hide them:
Insert your Leopard DVD
Choose Open Apple Install Discs in Pacifist
Choose the Leopard DVD
Find and Extract the following two files to a directory of your choice:
Resources » OSInstall.mpkg » OSInstall.pkg » Scripts for hidden_MacOS9
Resources » OSInstall.mpkg » OSInstall.pkg » Scripts » Tools » SetHidden
Open Terminal and cd to the folder you extracted the files to.
Run this command sudo ./SetHidden / hidden_MacOS9.
Enter password and reboot your Mac once the command has executed.
After rebooting, the unix folders and links should now be hidden from the root file system again, just like in Tiger. "

Lord K. Thank you. Yes I am within the 90 time period, however I travel Intertionally and I can not receive not make a call to Apple. I was just at the Genius Bar in Chicago and they said, don't worry about it. It just floats out there, however, I can not recover my messages on a flash drive. I need to go back to my old computer which I don't have with me. My messages were in folders for a lawsuit. It is going to take an incredible amount of work for me to, you have no Idea. We are talking thousands of pages! I the defendent will have them during discovery so I am not so worried. How to view hidden folders in Finder

Sometimes, it's not just folders, it's files too. Sometimes in non-mac sources, like my SMART TV, I see files named .filename.mp4 along with filename.mp4. And these fraudulent files are really bothering. And the worst part, I can't see them in Finder. So I need help to remove the .file.mp4.
I used the term 'filename.mp4' to represent an MP4 video file. But the files that have a . before them need to be deleted.

As Jeff Shenk says, they are "Apple Double" format which Mac OS X uses when storing Mac files on a non-HFS+ file system. The ._ files contains the resource fork of a file. Some applications store additional information about a file in the resource fork. This could be things like font information, custom file icons, album art, track information, information about file formatting from a word processor, etc... This is no limit to what an app might store in a resource fork.
For future reference you can easily take Mac OS X screen shots using:
Command-Shift-3
- Capture entire screen
Command-Shift-4
- Drag to select copy region
Command-Shift-4-Space   - Capture Window under cursor
If you want a menu or pop-up, then do the
Command-Shift-4-Space
after the menu or pop-up is setup as you like it.
If you want to capture the screen shot to the Clipboard, then add the "Control" key to any of the above, and you can then paste the screen shot from the Clipboard into any app that accepts picture input.

Hidden photos are really not hidden

With the new photo app, I am able to "hide" photos in the "hidden album" on my Mac and actually hide the album so that the photos are truely hidden. However, the "hidden album" appears as an album in my iPad and iPhone and when tap the album icon, all the "hidden" photos appear. In other words, the photos are not hidden, they are there for anyone and everyone to see that taps on the icon. Anybody know how to fix this?

As far as I know, there is no fix because that is the way it is supposed to work. This is the message that pops up when you hide a photo.

You don’t install VS2010 on the client PC, then where did the Form Invoice not work? When you run it from another version of VS? Or when you run the application with application.exe?
Based on your description, one form works well, another form does not. I assume that two forms are in two different projects, then please check the .Net Framework used by the two projects. If they are different, you can use the
one used by the Form contact for Form Invoice.
Because this issue is a project issue, I recommend you to consult it on some application forum such as Windows Forms General forum for better support.

Finder/Chrome issues, need help

So here is the problem.
Sometimes my iMac will not react to anything downloaded in chrome.
For example when I download a ZIP file, normally I would click the file at the bottom of chrome and finder/archive utility opens up the file and unzips it.
What happens to me is, Chrome doesn't do anything..it does not do anything with any file be it a zip or a jpeg. it just doesn't do anything.
So I browse to the ZIP file in my Downloads folder, double click it top unzip it, and the Archive utility just hang and I can see the bar that it's busy but the application is actually not responding.
I left it unzipping overnight and the next morning it was still trying to unpack.
Also the finder does not refresh itself when the problem occurs (I will create something in Photoshop, and try to save the PSD for example and it saves the file, but the finder does not show it unless I Relaunch Finder).
Rebooting my iMac does not work I have to hold CMD+Option+R+P (reset PRAM) to make the iMac work correctly again.
After 2 day's the problem will return and the whole game starts again...
It is kind of annoying.. Now I've noticed DOZENS of Bugs in Mountain Lion...if this is one of them I'm going back to Lion, this is not worth my time.

Finder is apple software yet you fail to read that... Chrome is just part of the issue, which I stll think links to the whole finder issue (seeing as when clicked on a download in chrome it should open Finder)
So instead of only focussing on Chrome, let's focus on Finder ok?
As a side not, I had and already tried a fresh install..

Installed latest update, now finder not loading

I installed the latest update (Safari 7.0.5 18th July 2014); after installing a 'question mark' came over the safari icon. I didn't think much of it at the time and after completing my work shut down my system (Macbook Air 13" mid 2013). Afterwards when I turned on my system 'finder.app' keeps showing "application not responding" (have relaunched multiple times - no use) and therefore can't view anything on my desktop (few apps are working); I tried going in time machine but its not opening. Now I have booted in 'safe mode' but still the same.
Can anyone help?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Hidden photos in iPhoto not hidden in aperture after import

After importing all of my iPhotos into aperture, my hidden photos are being shown in aperture. Is there a way to have my photos hidden in aperture as well?

Not really.
Aperture has a seven-level rating scheme: no rating, 1-5, and "rejected".
I'm pretty sure (I don't know for certain) that photos hidden in iPhoto are assigned a rating of "rejected" when imported into Aperture via the iPhoto importer.
Rejected Images are not shown in the default Browser view of any container. The purpose, however, is less to hide Images than it is to remove them from view prior to deleting or relocating them.
If you have Images you wish to hide from view of someone who has access to your Aperture Library, you should not include them in that Library.

Exchange 2013 CU5 fresh install suffering issues with services not starting and coexistence with 2007

Hope you can help me out on a couple of issues I've been experiencing during the initial stages of a project to upgrade an on premise Exchange 2007 to 2013.
On Monday last week I installed the first Exchange 2013 server into the network after a few weeks of careful planning, information gathering and remediation of our current Exchange 2007 environment and associated systems.
The server itself has been having some issues from the word go, some of which I've resolved but none that are show stoppers but I want to get them resolved before building more servers and setting up the planned 2 x 2 node DAG's
The main problems are as follows:
There's usually one service that does not start following an OS restart and it's not always the same service. So far I've seen the following not start: DAG Management, Migration Workflow, Anti-spam Update, Unified Messaging, UM Call Router, Transport
Service.
The critical system event log entries are complaining of timeouts when the services are starting up but I can't imagine that the servers boot time is too long... It's a 2 vCPU/12Gb vRAM VM, Windows 2012 R2
I receive an error in the Event Log regarding RPC over HTTP Proxy
to one of the 2007 CAS servers (not our primary one). The first error was because the Windows Component was missing but since installing it, disabling Outlook Anywhere, reenabling it, restarting the server, I now have a new error which is shown further down

The Exchange 2013 server install is pretty default, CAS/MBX roles and some basic configuration performed such as new DNS entries, Public SSL certs installed and assigned, URL's updates, SCP updated. I have review and resolved some errors from the event logs
for over chatty warnings about disk space (the warning is that we have loads of space...)
This is a brief outline of the environment:
Exchange 2007 SP3 RU13
UK - Two physical locations in a stretch LAN (100Mb WAN)
4 x CCR Cluster Mailbox Servers in two separate CCR Clusters
Cluster 1 - Windows 2003 R2: One physical, one virtual server - don't ask, legacy install and I know the virtual is not a supported configuration.
Cluster 2 - Windows 2008 R2: Two virtuals - New cluster built following a 4 day failure of Cluster 1. The aim was to move to supported config and decommission cluster 1.
Note: Migration of Cluster 1 to Cluster 2 was halted as 2013 was so close it seemed pointless to continue the migration and instead migrate both Clusters to 2013 once in production.

I've gone through the article and the Get-OutlookAnywhere commandlet looks fine (especially when compared with our working CAS).
Having looked through IIS I have spotted two additional misconfigurations with a missing setting to require SSL on the RPC folder and also the .NET version was not set.
I've now set those to Require SSL and .NET 2.0.5072 however this has made no difference following restarted of both 2007 CAS and 2013 servers.
I could potentially reinstall the CAS server or additionally decommission it as we have two of them and the other is not causing any errors with the 2013 server. This broken CAS server doesn't even have DNS records (except it's own hostname) or firewall
rules pointing to it, nor does it have any active client connections if I check with a quick netstat -a
As for UM, it's next on my list following some client/server connectivity testing so I have not yet assigned the SSL to the services or setup the dial plans, etc.
The services do start most of the time, but others then don't so it's not a consistent issue with just this service. On my current boot, the DAG Management service failed to start, but again I don't have a DAG implemented yet.
I will see if UM drops out of that list once I've configured it shortly
