Fresh install of Mavericks Produces error
All right, so a while ago I wiped my hard drive in order to start fresh and after attempting to reinstall it got about half way on the loading bar and then prompted me with this error: "Install Failed OSX Could not be installed on your computer The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail Contact the software manufacturer for assistance Click Restart to restart your computer and try installing again" I did have Mavericks installed when I wiped it and I had upgraded it from Snow Leopard. Right now the only OS I can manage to install is Snow Leopard which is from a DVD, but anytime I try and use an OS that is downloaded from the App Store it always gives me the same error! Basically I can only install Snow Leopard and that is NOT good enough. This macbook is from 2010 4gb of ram 250gb hdd 2.44 ghz processor and is fully capable of running Mavericks well, but its giving me issues... Someone please help me!
I have tried verifying and repairing my disk and 95% of the time it says that it is fine. The only time it ever gave me an error was after Mavericks failed to install and it prompted me to salvage what I could and restore the disk (which I did). I am only able to install Snow Leopard and any upgrade after that prompts the same error while installing

So, I've got several thousand photos, and a decent amount of videos of my daughter, along with a lot of stuff for work stored on my Time Capsule, and now I can't access any of it. I did a fresh install of Mavericks on my MacBook Pro last week sometime, and haven't been able to figure out how to get my files back. Please Help!!! My daughter is 2 and a half, and every picture/video I have of her is locked on this thing. I was planning on making some photo/video projects fo my wife for Christmas, and now I'm definitely not going to be able to pull it off. Her birthday is at the end of January, though, so if I could have it by then, that would rule!
Basically, the bar on the right of the screen has some gray dates, which I can access (all backups after the Mavericks install), and purple dates that go all the way back to March (when I originally purchased and began using the TC) which deny me access/viewing. It's possible that I created a slightly different user name when I reset my MacBook, which I guess is most likely the cause, but I have no idea what to do now to correct it. Try manually mounting the sparsebundle and extract the files you want.

We have avoided Mavericks you see knowing that it would cause these kinds of issues..
You never ever load a new OS without doing a disk image beforehand.. TM is not reliable enough or trustworthy to be depended on.
If none of the above work..
I would get a USB drive on the computer and install Mountain Lion or whatever OS you had before you unfortunately upgraded to Mavericks.. Then use TM from that decent installation but mount the sparsebundle and choose the backup from a date well before mavericks was installed.
Once you have extracted the files.. or even done a full restore you might be able to extract the files you want. -
Fresh install with lots of errors

I just installed oracle XE on a Ubuntu Server 10.04 and I had to fix a problem I never had before.
When I tried to connect to the database with sqlplus
sqlplus /
I got a error saying that ORACLE was'nt running. So, I logged differently:
sqlplus /nolog
SQL> connect sys/ORACLE as sysdba
connected to an idle instance
SQL> startup nomount
Then it complained that ORACLE could not find either initDB_NAME.ora or SPFILE.ora
After a quick check I notice that there were neither initDB_NAME.ora nor SPFILE.ora on my system. The only file I found was the standart init.ora in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs which i rename to initXE.ora, then after a restart I had to fix a ORA-00371: not enough shared pool memory, should be atleast string bytes.
Ok, after fixing that problem I got the error: "ORA-00205: Error in identifying control file, check alert log for more info" when I tried to mount the database.
Checking in the database
SQL> SHOW PARAMETERS control_files;
It says somenthing like $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/ora_control1 and $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/ora_control2
Those files does not exist either.
Are those problems normal for a fresh install??? Should'nt be created a initXE.ora file automatically??

So, you didn't find neither the PFILE/SPFILE to Start the Instance nor the Control Files to MOUNT the Database.
Are you sure that the XE Database was created ? Or do you use the right environment variables ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, ... ?
Normally, these files should be created on the right place and should be found when the Database startup.
The init.ora file is always there as a sample file, even if you don't create a Database.

Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bits fresh install with 0x9F_3_IMAGE_UsbHub3.sys error
Hi, I am having problem installing fresh Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bits OS into ThinkPad 10 on its dock.
Set up using MDT 2013 with ADK 8.1.
Everytime during "Finalizing Setting", it will hit with BSOD.
Searching for hours but unable to locate a driver package on Lenovo website that contain UsbHub3.sys file.
Does anyone able to advice me how to fix this?

The toshiba thinkpad should have builtin software to update drivers and software packages etc.

Fresh install of Mavericks 10.9 - Now I have problems
I just upgraded my OS to Maverick 10.9. Now my Epson 630 printer doesn't print--problem with a filter. And it doesn't scan--no reason yet why. I heard Epson says it hasn't developed a driver yet. I was thinking I might re-install the printer software.Any ideas?
10.9 can't be installed on an PPC Mac. PPC is for Macs that pre-date 2006.
Double check Apple's Epson drivers, and open source drivers*. -

My mac mini locks up streaming video fresh install of Mavericks ?
My mac mini 2011 locks up while watching catch up tv from ABC Aus, rarely on others , it did it on Mountain Lion and continues on Maverick. It locks up and there is a sound loop running of like 1 second of sound . So I know it is not software , and it streams to my ipad and air ok , so it must be hardware or overheating as it gets really hot while doing it . BTW its over wifi . Any one had similair problems ?
My 2012 mac mini had the same problem whenever I would stream from twitch.tv, netflix, and even sometimes youtube. I tried clearing PRAM, clearing SMC, running hardware diagnostics, using Disk Utility's repair function. Nothing worked.
Try deleting everything contained in the directory ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/
(You'll need to show hidden files to find it)
After doing that, I've been streaming twitch for about two hours now without incident, whereas I could never manage more than 15 minutes before that. -
Why is Mavericks running so slowly after a fresh install on my Macbook Pro?
I have a 13-inch, Early 2011 Macbook Pro.
Towards the end of 2013 Mountain Lion had been running very sluggishly, and I was getting the spinning beachball of death all the time, so I decided to do a fresh install of Mavericks. I wiped my whole HD using disk utility and installed Mavericks from a flash drive.
I then installed Microsoft Office 2011 from the original DVD and set up Mac Mail to work with my Gmail account etc. All very standard. I also installed X-Code and various other things related to my work, but nothing crazy. My HD is only half-full (I have 141 GB of free space).
Despite this, everything is running really sluggishly (especially when MS Office programs are open) and I have to watch the beachball of death spin for about 10 seconds every minute.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter
exec sh
and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for your password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator rights.
The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. There wiil be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress until it's done. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
8. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." That's because the forum software falsely identifies something in the post as a violation of the terms of use. If that happens, please post the results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

How to get iPhoto back on a fresh install (not upgrade) of Mavericks?
I have a mid 2010 white unibody Macbook which came with Snow Leopard pre-installed and hence iPhoto. I recently upgraded to an SSD with a fresh install of Mavericks which does not come with iPhoto. As I originally had iPhoto, can I get a (free) copy of it for Mabericks?

Trouble updating fresh install of CS5.0 on Mac

I am in a corporate environment with CLP licenses of Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium CS5.0. Because we use some very expensive plugins, along with InDesign Server, and are connected to a database publishing program, there are a lot of dependencies preventing us from upgrading at this time.
Recently we have upgraded our Macs to OSX 10.9.2 from Snow Leopard without incident. All existing licenses were preserved and work correctly. However one of the Macs, a 27" IMac needed to have a fresh install of Mavericks for reasons unrelated to this post. I was able to install the Suite and open each application without issue from the original electronic dowload file. However, attempts to update the suite using the built-in AAME update method fails with each attempt, due to download errors. So one question is, is this because of something Adobe did that changes the download location, or do I have some sort of security blocking downloads of this nature from Adobe? (I did set preferences to permit non-Apple Store downloads.)
I can search for the individual updates and find them with a search. I updated Bridge successfully using this method. I then attempted to update Illustrator to 15.0.2, and it appeared to be successful. However, following this Illustrator would no longer open. It had an X through the application and a message appeared on opening that this version of Illustrator would not open on this type of Mac. Is there a particular order in which I must install these updates? As I write, I have unistalled the Suite, reinstalled it to the point where no updates have been attempted.

I did disable Mac's security preference. I also spoke to our IT group about the possibility of things being blocked, but since I can download the updates directly from Adobe, they didn't think I was being blocked. It's hard to determine if the Application Manager is downloading those from some other location that is blocked compared to the manual download location-. So just before I received your answer, I began installing the individual updates, taking a guess as to an optimal order, leaving Bridge, with its shared dependencies until after the core updates were in there. I actually found that some manual updates failed, and these were only successful through AAME after most of the others were installed manually. Here, with all its warts is how I eventually got it all updated, in case anyone else runs into this. Seems like Adobe may have moved things around so that the AAME can no longer find what it needs. I was also informed by Adobe that telephone support for CS5 has ended.

Attempted to get the rest of the way by installing through AAME the remaining pieces. All installed successfully except Adobe Pixel Bender Toolkit 2.5 and Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7 update and Adobe Player for Embedding 3.1
Installed Adobe Pixel Bender Tookit 2.5 manually successfully.
Installed Camera Raw 6.7.1 manually. (should have been 6.7, but it went in.)
Checked for more updates. Updater still said Adobe 6.7 required and Adobe Player for Embedding.
Ran AAME one more time and Adobe Player for Embedding was installed successfully.
Left 6.7.1 alone despite prompt in AAME to put in 6.7. -
Is there a way to do a fresh install of Mavericks on my MBP? I did the download and upgrade but it seems low probably because this is the 3rd or 4th upgrade. Is there a way to install Mavericks and create a "clean" impage. i can then restore the apps I need from my Time machine drive.

IMac - will my raid set be recognized after a fresh install?
I own an iMac late 2012 and I installed an external raid with two Lacie thunderbolt disks. Will my raid be recognized after a fresh install of mavericks?

While I am by no means a RAID expert, it seems to me that if you have a software RAID of two external HDs (i.e. set up via Disk Utility or other software), then a fresh (clean) install of OS X would no longer recognize the RAID.
Doing a clean install would wipe OS X's knowledge of the software RAID and you would have to set it up again. You can certainly set up the software RAID again, but I suspect that would re-initialize the RAID setup on the hard drives and probably wipe previous data. There IS a Rebuild option, but I have no idea if that would work in a case where you freshly install OS X.
On the other hand, I believe that upgrading OS X (rather than freshly installing the operating system) would preserve the software RAID setup.
Regardless of how you upgrade or reinstall OS X, back up your data first. -
I wish to sell my 2008 MacBook Pro. Have erased hard disk and when I went to fresh instal Mavericks OSX 10.6 (it gives me no other choice in the disk utility program) It says in the Apple Store, it is unavailable. But because this is done from disk utility there is no operating system or access to choose another OS eg Yosemite. I cannot download anything using my iMac as that came ready loaded with Yosemite, so it does not show as a purchase. I do not want to use the Time Machine backup as that has all my details, apps etc. in it. Would the best way be to purchase a disk containing Mavericks the OS that was on it most recently. Can anyone offer advice please?
You need to re-install the OS the computer shipped with using the disks that were supplied with the computer. Contact Apple Support and have the serial number of your computer available. They will send you new disks for a small fee.

I've recently performed a clean install of Mavericks on my MBP. I then attempted to install Logic Studio but was met with the error message "You can't open the application "LogicStudio.mpkg" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." Mavericks was installed as an upgrade prior to the clean install, and at that time Logic Studio functioned normally. Any suggestions?

There is a bug in the installer program of Logic that makes Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks think that it is PowerPC.
Best solution would have been to install Logic BEFORE you upgraded to Mavericks, but before you backup, wipe and start all over, try to use Pacifist to install it and please report back.
