Fresh installed arch hanged with Skype in wmii during video call.

Fresh installed arch hanged with Skype in wmi during video call. The keyboard stopped reacting to any keys, including Ctrl+Alt+F1 (F2, F3, F4, F5, F6), Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.
The timer was actually working but updating in 3-5 seconds. While I had powerful laptop (i5 2.6GHz, 8Gb RAM). So,... I had to use power button to restart.
Any ideas how to avoid this in future?
Dis anybody experience similar issue?

  • Fresh install boot hangs

    Hi,
    At outset,  note that my installation is pure Arch linux and it is fresh install which I did yesterday.
    I have installed Arch linux yesterday with Openbox. I have not yet set it up completely. But something which is annoying me is boot hangs many times. I tried to debug it by adding parameters to kernel using grub-customizer. I added verbose and debug kernel parameter. The place where is hangs is

    I used to use Antergos linux. I started getting this problem http://forum.antergos.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=1924 , so I switched to Archbang. I was still getting this problem http://bbs.archbang.org/viewtopic.php?id=5061 . Now I have switched to Arch Linux.
    I thought it is problem with Broadcomm firmware or driver. But I think it is something different and related to intel video driver.  I have installed Arch linux with Openbox. I am still getting this problem.

  • Install Arch Linux with UEFI and GPT

    Hi, I purchased a new laptop and I created a partition with Windows 8 (default OS on laptop) and another partition where I want to install Arch Linux.
    When I tried to install Arch Linux not boot from CD. After searching in Google I downloaded the latest Arch Linux ISO (2012-12-01) and tried again.
    This time CD started without problems but when I used cfdisk showed an error with GPT partition. I went back to search in Google and I read about gdisk and gfdisk and I try it but when I partitioning to install Arch Linux partition show that may cause damage. I searched and searched without success and I wonder if there is a Arch Linux GPT install guide or if someone knows how to install Arch Linux with GPT and a Windows 8 partition in UEFI.
    Thanks and regards.

    Hi again, finally I got "install" Arch Linux but when I reboot the follow message appears:
    "No Booteable Device, Hit any key."
    I don't know if I broke Windows Boot Manager, UEFI or both...
    I tried to reinstall GRUB but was unsuccessful.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks and regards.

  • Skype Charges for Received Video Calls

    Under Skype's current payment plan policy is there a charge to a Skype receiver of a video call?

    Just wanted to post a more current reply. After spending some time today in online chat with VZ support, and having the rep tell me that incoming international calls ARE charged for roaming, and me persisting to get the correct answer ... she checked with global support and DID confirm Grothka's answer: that is, if the VZ customer is in the US and receives an international call, they are ONLY charged minutes; no additional fees.

    Hello Guys,
    This is my first topic. I have done all the research in this forum and in Google for the issue, with no luck in finding a solution. I have done several Arch linux installs before on Virtual Machines and PC's all of them working properly, except for this one that I can not get to pass the install phase.

    HP Laptop Pavilion Entertainment PC dv2-1030us
    Athlon AMD Processor
    4 GB RAM
    300GB HD
    ATI Video Card
    Broadcom wireless Card (Default drivers Not Working)
    Wired Network Card (Working)
    I'm trying to install Arch from USB drive created from another arch machine via:
    sudo dd if=/name_of_file.iso of=/dev/sdX
    Using Arch Version:
    Current Release: 2014.08.01
    Included Kernel: 3.15.7
    ISO Size: 559.0 MB
    The above bootleable USB drive have been used to install Arch in another machine currently running it.
    After creating the partitions on the drive, namely:
    BOOT
    SWAP
    ROOT
    HOME
    And formatting them accordingly to the install guide, and having the system ready to download all the base and base-devel packages via:
    pacstrap -i /mnt base base-devel
    Right after it finishes downloading I get the following error:

    I've had the same issue with an (outdated) Arch Linux iso. As far as I am aware, it is caused by pacman's keys becoming out of date.
    I've managed to get around this before, but the exact method eludes me.
    You could try just updating the archlinux-keyring package, by refreshing pacman (pacman -Sy), then reinstalling only that package (try pacman -S archlinux-keyring).
    Then you should be able to continue as normal.
    Note that this only affects the CD filesystem in RAM - it will not persists across reboots using the CD.
    The reason why this might work is that the package archlinux-keyring might not be signed by the key you were having issues with. If it still fails, you could temporarily set the SigLevel for the core repo to 'Never', however this does disable package signing, at least until you reset the SigLevel.
    Unfortunately, I could not replicate the problem in a Qemu VM, so I'm not sure how good my method is. Hopefully, it fixes the problem.
    Here are some links that might help shed some light:

  • Skype freezes during video call, no issue with har...

    Hi All,
         I have recently been set to the task to figure out why everyone around me cannot skype a video call longer than approx. 2mins without the feed freezing, going black, or turning to static.
    I have read almost all the forums in the community on video freezing and have tried all listed options.
    I have throughly checked all of mine and others laptops hardware for functionality and nothing is wrong.
    It is running Windows 8.1 and has all Windows updates, software and firmware updates.
    It seems many people are crying for an answer for this and reverting to an old version of Skype is no longer possible.
    Ideas??? ***Please do not reply with: reinstall your driver or test your camera to see if it freezes in other programs. This has been done. This is not a computer model/operating system specific issue and I see it as a skype issue.

    Try to uninstall the currently installed Skype version and install the previous 6.14.0.104 version using the download links provided here:

    my problem is right after using video call in YM my phone hang and it will turn off then turn on by itself. But this time after using YM video call  the screen turned black slowly until u can only see vertical lines on the mid part. so i rebooted the phone. it turned on but still there is vertical lines visible if u look at it closely. those are the same lines appeared when it frozen a while ago. how can i fix this? please help me. is it because of the yahoo messenger application or it is just my phone?.please help... please......thank u guys..

    I think I found a work around to this problem. In Setting > Carrier, don't choose Automatic. Explicitly select the carrier. Once I did that, I haven't encountered this problem (ok, YET).

  • Skype 4.4.507 on Blackberry Z30, No speakerphone during video calls

    I'm trying to solve why when i make a video call in skype the only sound from the phone comes from the top internal speak and not the speakerphone, making it impossible to hear the other person unless i hold the phone to my head like a call, making video calls kinda pointless.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    I have 3 more weeks to decide if i want to keep this phone and this might be a deal breaker.

    You can also use headphones actually they did that this way in order the person you are talking to not to hear his voice...

  • BIOS won't boot freshly installed Arch [solved]

    Hello
    Last night I did a complete wiping of my hard drive on  my old HP620 laptop in order to start my ideal Arch setup from the scratch.
    I decided to give GPT a try, since I've been sick of the brain damaged MBR all those years. I did the install as usual, using cgdisk
    to partition the drive within the freshly created GUID partition table. I made up 5 partitions, with the leading 1MiB BIOS boot partition,
    which I created inside the first 40-2047 sector boundaries and set it to type ef02.
    Everything has been alligned properly and passed without any errors. I partitioned the drive as follows:
    quetzalcoatl% sudo gdisk -l /dev/sda
    GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.10
    Partition table scan:
    MBR: protective
    BSD: not present
    APM: not present
    GPT: present
    Found valid GPT with protective MBR; using GPT.
    Disk /dev/sda: 625142448 sectors, 298.1 GiB
    Logical sector size: 512 bytes
    Disk identifier (GUID): 1DC6DA85-2730-4101-ADA1-69EA884CC1B7
    Partition table holds up to 128 entries
    First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 625142414
    Partitions will be aligned on 8-sector boundaries
    Total free space is 362996373 sectors (173.1 GiB)
    Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name
    1 40 2047 1004.0 KiB EF02
    2 2048 52430847 25.0 GiB 8300
    3 52430848 85985279 16.0 GiB 8300
    4 85985280 94373887 4.0 GiB 8200
    5 94373888 262146047 80.0 GiB 8302
    sda1 is BIOT boot partition, sda2 is /, sda3 is reiserfs /var, sda4 for swap and sda5 is /home.
    I formated every partition prior to mounting and installing the base system, except for sda1 which
    I left intact (no formatting, just the cgdisk part of creating and chosing type).
    At the end, I did the grub installation and configuration:
    pacman -S grub-bios
    grub-install --target=i386-pc --recheck /dev/sda
    pacman -S os-prober
    grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
    after which I unmounted and rebooted, but the BIOS refused to boot into the system. It came up with the "Non
    system disk or disk error". The only way of booting into the system remains to use the Arch installation CD,
    and chose "Boot from hard drive" option.
    I tried adding the boot flag to the BIOS boot partition using "parted /dev/sda set1 bios_grub on", and even faking
    and adding bootable flag to BIOS boot partition using the MBR's fdisk since gdisk hasn't got the option to.
    Nothing helped.
    Pacman says GRUB version is grub 1:2.02.beta2-4. Should I try going with syslinux or my BIOS (which I hadn't been updating at all)
    is perhaps too old or buggy to cope with the GPT? I don't want to convert to MBR, if technically would be possible to boot using GPT.
    What should I do?
    Thanks in advance,
    Luth

    Hi Luther,
    As the thread hasn't been marked as solved I hope this will help:
    1. The standard partition table type used by BIOS systems is MBR/MSDOS. Any PC released prior to Windows 8 should be a BIOS system. GPT is a newer partition table type used as standard with UEFI systems (i.e. post Windows 8). To make life simple, it is recommended to stick to the standard partition type appropriate for your system.
    2. The performance gain you would get using Reiserfs - I suspect - would be negligable. Ext2/3/4 would be a better choice, particularly as they are easy to use and are very popular (i.e. better chance of getting advice and support if you need it).

  • [WORKED AROUND] Installing Arch Linux with 3.11 kernel on Vaio Pro 13

    Yesterday I received my Sony Vaio Pro 13.
    The WLAN card is only supported since kernel 3.11, which has been released by Linus several days ago.
    The laptop has no ethernet port, ideally I'd thus use the WLAN abilities using installation.
    Since there is no Arch ISO available with 3.11 yet, I was hoping to create my own, using the arch wiki guide on remastering the ISO: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Re … nstall_ISO
    I was wondering whether, instead of compiling my own kernel, I could just chroot into the unpacked ISO filesystem and install the 3.11 kernel from the testing repository using pacman.
    Which, as far as I could tell, was the released kernel, and not an earlier RC. Is this possible?
    One other question remains: the author of this blog mentions a diff that is needed to prevent the CPU freq to be stuck at 800Mhz (http://elouisyoung.blogspot.se/2013/07/ … -with.html).
    Does anyone know whether this made it to the mainline?
    # UPDATE
    I explored the latest kernel release and found out that the patch is not yet included in the mainline.
    So I'll have to compile my own kernel. There are however still issues with the CPU freq scaling (won't scale lower than 1.6Ghz). Nasty...
    # UPDATE 2
    Booting + installing mainline ISO, installed testing/linux for wifi, compiled own kernel + installed besides the testing/linux kernel worked fine for me.

  • [SOLVED] install arch VM with pacstrap

    Dear all,
    I am installing a Arch VM on my Arch host. The host is up-to-date, well configured (at least I think) in a vanilla manner (no suspicious hacks).
    # pacstrap -i -c -d /dahlia base base-devel
    is installing all packages but gives me this error many times:
    /usr/bin/bash: error while loading shared libraries: libreadline.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    error: command failed to execute correctly
    Googling this error returns lot of topics but I couldn't find a clear answer. I do not want to start with a semi-broken arch VM, so I want to solve this issue before going further.
    Thank you

  • Hi installed Arch i686 with Nouveau and drivers. now dead end

    went to post a long typed output from Arch terminal, no desktop, I had changed my password when I went to post it decided I was not logged in and lost the lot.
    Just a short note now.
    xorg.conf.d which nano refuses to look at and pmagic file manager shows nothing about the nvidia  nv vesa and fbdev modules that are demanded by xorg as shown by the log.
    There were also error commands in xinitrc, named twm, xterm were not found.
    I also installed kde which has its own window maker.
    I wonder where to go with Arch from this seemingly dead end.
    Sorry for the sparse post, too tired to type it all out again from Arch terminal.

    Thanks Mr.Elendig and the others,
                           got kde up and running now, took a bit of time the first time, and twm and xterm helped.
    I was too tired to type out the whole log again last night, so sorry for the kiss post, even so it put me on the right path.
    The card was an Nvidia G Force GT 240, and its going fine with Nouveau in an Intel core duo Gigabyte MB 4 gig dd3 ram
    Mr.Elendig wrote:1. what hardware do you have?

  • Exchange 2013 CU5 fresh install suffering issues with services not starting and coexistence with 2007

    Hi everyone,
    Hope you can help me out on a couple of issues I've been experiencing during the initial stages of a project to upgrade an on premise Exchange 2007 to 2013.
    On Monday last week I installed the first Exchange 2013 server into the network after a few weeks of careful planning, information gathering and remediation of our current Exchange 2007 environment and associated systems.
    The server itself has been having some issues from the word go, some of which I've resolved but none that are show stoppers but I want to get them resolved before building more servers and setting up the planned 2 x 2 node DAG's
    The main problems are as follows:
    There's usually one service that does not start following an OS restart and it's not always the same service. So far I've seen the following not start: DAG Management, Migration Workflow, Anti-spam Update, Unified Messaging, UM Call Router, Transport
    Service.
    The critical system event log entries are complaining of timeouts when the services are starting up but I can't imagine that the servers boot time is too long...  It's a 2 vCPU/12Gb vRAM VM, Windows 2012 R2
    I receive an error in the Event Log regarding RPC over HTTP Proxy
    to one of the 2007 CAS servers (not our primary one). The first error was because the Windows Component was missing but since installing it, disabling Outlook Anywhere, reenabling it, restarting the server, I now have a new error which is shown further down
    this post
    The Exchange 2013 server install is pretty default, CAS/MBX roles and some basic configuration performed such as new DNS entries, Public SSL certs installed and assigned, URL's updates, SCP updated. I have review and resolved some errors from the event logs
    for over chatty warnings about disk space (the warning is that we have loads of space...)
    This is a brief outline of the environment:
    Exchange 2007 SP3 RU13
    UK - Two physical locations in a stretch LAN (100Mb WAN)
    4 x CCR Cluster Mailbox Servers in two separate CCR Clusters
    Cluster 1 - Windows 2003 R2: One physical, one virtual server - don't ask, legacy install and I know the virtual is not a supported configuration.
    Cluster 2 - Windows 2008 R2: Two virtuals - New cluster built following a 4 day failure of Cluster 1. The aim was to move to supported config and decommission cluster 1.
    Note: Migration of Cluster 1 to Cluster 2 was halted as 2013 was so close it seemed pointless to continue the migration and instead migrate both Clusters to 2013 once in production.
    2 x Virtual Windows 2003 R2 - Hub Transport Servers
    2 x Virtual Windows 2003 R2 - Client Access Servers
    1 x Virtual Windows 2003 R2 - Unified Messaging Server
    1 x Virtual Windows 2003 R2 - Edge Transport Server (DMZ)
    US - One physical location
    1 x Physical Windows 2008 R2 - Mailbox, Client Access, Hub Transport Server
    Exchange 2013 CU5
    UK - Installed into same site along side Exchange 2007 servers
    1 x Virtual Windows 2012 R2 - Mailbox, Client Access Server

    Hi Off2work,
    I've gone through the article and the Get-OutlookAnywhere commandlet looks fine (especially when compared with our working CAS).
    Having looked through IIS I have spotted two additional misconfigurations with a missing setting to require SSL on the RPC folder and also the .NET version was not set.
    I've now set those to Require SSL and .NET 2.0.5072 however this has made no difference following restarted of both 2007 CAS and 2013 servers.
    I could potentially reinstall the CAS server or additionally decommission it as we have two of them and the other is not causing any errors with the 2013 server. This broken CAS server doesn't even have DNS records (except it's own hostname) or firewall
    rules pointing to it, nor does it have any active client connections if I check with a quick netstat -a
    As for UM, it's next on my list following some client/server connectivity testing so I have not yet assigned the SSL to the services or setup the dial plans, etc.
    The services do start most of the time, but others then don't so it's not a consistent issue with just this service. On my current boot, the DAG Management service failed to start, but again I don't have a DAG implemented yet.
    I will see if UM drops out of that list once I've configured it shortly
    Thanks for taking the time to respond (and that goes to DareDevil too)

  • CS5 hangs with smart text reflow during scripting

    Hello,
    I have a batch script that opens each input file in a folder one after another and saves them as indd and pdf.
    Now I have run across a problem.
    The script opens the input document (a special xml format for our plugin, this opens one InDesign template and places some content into a specific text frame), then run preflight to check if there are overflows etc. and then saves the content to indd and pdf.
    The input template has smart text reflow enabled, with adding new pages at the end of the document and deleting empty pages because I do not know how much content will be placed.
    I have some strange issues:
    In ID CS4, the script runs fine, but some times I got preflight errors for some documents (different ones on each run). If I open the documents afterwards, it seems the smart text reflow did not run before the script saved the indd (and so preflight found an text overflow).
    However in CS5, InDesign hangs at some time during the script - windows task manager says it is not responding. This happens at a random file (not the same each time), the first ones before came out as expected.
    Because of the preflight issues in CS4 I have made a test and created a new template with disabled smart text reflow and already added the maximum number of pages for my content. Now the script runs fine in CS5 (without hanging). But this way I have emtpy pages I do not want.
    My assumption is, that the smart text reflow does run some sort of asyncronous and gets in the way of saving/exporting to pdf the file. A "$.sleep(5000);" after opening/placing does not help either.
    Is there any way in scripting to force the smart text reflow or to wait for it until it is finished?
    Below is the relevant part of the script.
    Has anybody a solution or workaround?
    Best regards,
    Ingo
    // process documents
    for(var i = 0; i < alldocs.length; i++ ){
      try{
        // Opens document
        // this is a format that triggers our plugin which opens a specific indt-template and places the content
        var currentDocument = app.open( alldocs[i],true);
        // try to force document to be really ready - TODO: is there a better/working way? Some way to wait for smart text reflow?
        currentDocument.recompose();
        //$.sleep(5000); //Fallback - sleep for a reasonable time to let the document be opened - does not help either
        // process the document with the selected profile
        var process = app.preflightProcesses.add(currentDocument, Settings.preflightProfile);
        process.waitForProcess();
        // get the results
        var preflightResults = process.aggregatedResults;
        // each report is in the [2]-Array. First condition prevents NullPointer-Errors
        if((preflightResults.length > 0) && (preflightResults[2].length>0)){
          logLine(alldocs[i].name + ': Preflight problems');
        // save as InDesign
        var indesignFile = new File(Settings.outputDir.fullName+'/'+alldocs[i].name.replace(RegExp( '\.[^\.]{1,4}$' ), '.indd' ));
        currentDocument.save( indesignFile );
        // Export as PDF
        var pdfFile = new File(Settings.outputDir.fullName+ '/'+alldocs[i].name.replace(RegExp( '\.[^\.]{1,4}$' ), '.pdf' ));
        currentDocument.exportFile(ExportFormat.pdfType, pdfFile , false);
        currentDocument.close();
      catch(err){
        // if there was a problem, note filename to display later
        logLine( alldocs[i].name + ': Errormessage was "' + err.description + '"');

    Well.. it works. It's a ugly cludge, but at least it works. I'm posting a snippet of code, because i'we seen a lot of threads on the same subject, and maby someone else will find it usefull.
    // save old recompose and set new one
          var myOldSmartText = app.activeDocument.textPreferences.smartTextReflow;
          app.activeDocument.textPreferences.smartTextReflow = true;
          app.activeDocument.textPreferences.addPages = AddPageOptions.END_OF_STORY;
          app.activeDocument.textPreferences.deleteEmptyPages = true;
          //find docType headers and apply keep
          app.findTextPreferences = app.changeTextPreferences = NothingEnum.NOTHING;
          app.findTextPreferences.findWhat = "<docType:TaggedRTF>";
          app.changeTextPreferences.startParagraph = StartParagraph.NEXT_ODD_PAGE;
          myStory.changeText();
          //fix tables
          if (myStory.tables.length) {
    /* long code to process tables, not interesting
         //process style rules
    /* long code to preformat text, add/remove space after headings, lists, blocks etc.
          // save old preflight options, add new ones
          var oldPreflight = app.activeDocument.preflightOptions.properties;
          app.activeDocument.preflightOptions.preflightOff = false;
         // wait a maximum of 40 second for the preflight process. Before it runs, the (not so)Smart  Text Reflow should kick into action.
          app.activeDocument.activeProcess.waitForProcess(40);
          //stop preflight for a bit more performance?
          app.activeDocument.preflightOptions.preflightOff = true;
          //now check if story overflows? (maby you have a very large cell in a table? some wierd keep options? bad things happen
    Can i mark my own answer as correct?

  • Oracle 8i database hangs for the same amount during JDBC calls.

    Hi all,
    I have a Oracle 8i database on solaris. The database hangs for exactly 61 seconds for a random jdbc call from my Java application, i mean there is no particular pattern or a JDBC call for which the database hangs. If i choose to wait for 61 seconds it returns the results from the database but if i try to access the database with another query(SQL Plus) the first query starts executing immediately. Is that a database configuration problem or some thing else.
    And i also get some exceptions occasionally( Maximum Open Cursors exception). Are these two related?
    Any feedback is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Hugo Victor

    I have uninstalled Oracle 8i.
    Removed all the services from Windows services by deleting corresponding registry entries and deleted the Oracle folder.
    I have reinstalled Oracle 8i, this time i changed the name of global database to oracledb.
    I channged the tnsnames.ora file from DevSuite appropriately as:
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:\DevSuiteHome_1\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = mscserver)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORACLEDB)
    Still it can't login using scott/tiger authentication.
    What may be the problem? Please help.
