Fresh Win7 install S410 won't reconise ATI card

Hi,
I recently purchased an S410 and installed Windows 7, I've installed all the drivers and everything works fine except the ATI graphics card.
I have installed the correct drivers from this site but I can't figure out how to get the computer to use the card.
In the device manager there is a yellow flag by the ATI card and the ATI catalyst control centre has no option, jsut a webpage. (Looks like this: http://imgur.com/kYkJN8q ) Now I may be wrong but on previous computers it had more options.
I'm at a loss now as to how to get my computer to use the TI card, so if anyone has any suggestions they would be extremely welcome.
As a second issue the intel graphics chipset drivers won't install, instead I get this message at the end of installation:
"This computer does not meet the mim=nimum requirements for installing this software"

Disable GDM and see if you can boot into the basic system.
As the IG and BG suggest, it's best to reboot just after installing the basic system. When it comes time to install X, take baby steps, testing and rebooting as necessary.

  • Win7 install dvd won't start on mac mini

I'm trying to install windows 7 on my mid 2007 mac mini (running snow leopard) in a bootcamp partition. I created the bootcamp partition (32GB) using bootcamp assistant (no problem there) and inserted the installation dvd, but once the mini reboots to start the installer I just get a black screen (symptoms very similar to those with the late 2006 iMac).
I tried using both the 64 and 32bit version but no difference there.
The win7 install DVD (bought, not downloaded) seems ok as installation as a virtual machine using vmware works.
I'ld really much prefer running windows in a bootcamp partition than through virtualization, so any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

If it won't start past the screen with the Apple logo in the center, there's something very badly wrong with your system. Try starting in safe mode (hold down the shift key at startup, starting when you hear the startup chime and letting go when you see the Apple logo). If it starts up fine then (keeping in mind it will take longer than normal to start up in this mode, so be patient), but the problem returns when you reboot normally, you have some incompatible third-party software installed. What that might be is hard to say.
If safe mode doesn't work either, your system is probably badly corrupt. Try reinstalling. Hold down command-R at startup to enter recovery mode. Once you do that, go to Disk Utility and repair the hard drive. If problems are nonexistent or fixed, quit Disk Utility and then reinstall the system. (This will simply replace the existing system files, and should leave all your other stuff alone.) If problems cannot be fixed, report back for more instructions.

  • DV7-3065DX - Fresh Win7 Install & 2 Unknown Devices?

Recently purchased this laptop and performed a fresh install of Windows 7 once getting home. After the install completed successfully, I noticed I have two Unknown Devices in my Device Manager that the install did not have drivers for. Ran through the Windows Update bit and still nothing. Any pointers on how to identify which two items these are so I can pull the drivers from the HP site?
To be more specific, the hardware IDs of each are ENE0100 and HPQ0004
    Thanks in advance,

  • Updating ipod on fresh Windows install without losing data?

    Hey guys.
I have an 80gb iPod Classic, and my iTunes had about 72gb worth of data in the playlist. Recently I had to reformat my system drive and do a fresh Windows install, and as such my iTunes playlist obviously got wiped. If I readd everything that was on my iPod into the playlist, will iTunes try to wipe my iPod and transfer everything over again, or will it recognize that the files are exactly the same and only copy the new files over that weren't originally on it?

If your iPod is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Once the iPod is in manual mode you can add to it without losing any content but you will have to drag it from the library yourself: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
However once you are safely connected you can copy content from the iPod to iTunes. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Install disc won't re-install Leopard on my Macbook

So, I recently upgraded my Hard Drive in my Macbook. After I upgraded, I thought it would be cool to have Windows XP on my Mac also. So I partition 20 gb of my Hard Drive off for XP. I ran boot camp to install XP and I kept getting an error. This left me with an empty partition of 20 gb on my Hard Drive. I read many posts on here and I decided that the best thing to do was to re-install Leopard completely and start over, fresh and clean. Well, I put my Leopard install disc into my dvd drive, and when the install starts up, I get an error message that says, "Mac OS X can not be installed on this drive." Also, the install disc will not eject, even before the install starts. My hard drive is completely blank right now, and I have no idea why my install disc won't work. What should I do?

Open Disk Utility again (from the installer DVD), click on the drive's name as described in the previous post, & click the blue "i" button to get the disk's info. Copy that to a reply in this thread so we can see it. Or just note the "Partition Map Scheme" info, which should say "GUID Partition Table."
If not, you did not succeed in repartitioning it, perhaps because you did not click the "Apply" button or something.
If so, make sure you are using the installer disk that came with the MacBook & not some other model-specific installer disk.
BTW, you can never eject the DVD if you have started up the MacBook from it, so that much is normal behavior. To eject the DVD, you must restart from some other boot volume.

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Implications of a Mavericks fresh re-install on other iDevices

My iMac, iPhone and iPad are synched for things like Contacts, Reminders, Notes, Calendars and so on. If, for example, I delete a Note on my iMac, the same note is very quickly deleted from my iPhone and iPad. If I do a fresh re-install of Mavericks, I understand that a "nude" version is installed, ie all data is erased and there are no Contacts, Notes etc. Does this result in Contacts, Notes etc being erased on the other iDevices? If so, how can I prevent this happening and, as it were, ensuring that the iMac doesn't become the "master copy" with nothing in it?

Eric, I certainly don't want to do a clean install but I share with others the problem detailed in the thread below and, in the final analysis, it might require a clean install to resolve. I hope that it won't but if it does, I would like to be prepared. I do backups via Time Machine to an external drive and a manual backup of all personal files to a separate external drive. The Apple documentation suggests that a clean install does result in a machine in "as new" condition.

Pagemaker is ancient, obsolete and unsupported. It was discontinued over 10 years ago. (Though why it is still sold is a mystery.)
If you want to run PageMaker, your best bet is to use a Win2K or WinXP PC.
Otherwise move to Indesign or look at Serif's PagePlus or Scribus.

  • Fresh Leopard Install and Time Machine

Leopard has been a miserable experience on my Imac 1.8Ghz G5. It has played havoc with the fan management and constantly overheats causing an abrupt switching off with a “pop” (presumably a safety feature). I am planning a completely fresh Leopard install on a wiped hard drive (which was not done originally). What folders or files should I NOT back up in Time Machine so that none of my previous system is restored. Basically I want everything back as it is now, Apps, e-mails, bookmarks etc. but a completely fresh system. Presumably I need to restore the Library folder, but is there anything in the System folder that I will need to restore? I have done an Archive and Install before, but that has not helped. I have reset the PRAM and SMC also. Looking at various Boards, fan problems are commonplace. I hoped that the first update would sort this out, but it didn't. A fresh install seems a reasonable next step. Any advice would be appreciated.

It's time for Apple to fess up and admit that Leopard, while great in potential, was rushed out prematurely. I've never seen so many forums dealing with OS-X failures like we see with Leopard.
It's a complete mess. I guess all those engineers shouldn't have been pulled to rush iPhone out the door prematurely too.
Not one--NOT ONE product that Apple let out this year was correct out of the gate. ****, they couldn't even get a freakin' keyboard right!!
    Bad Apple, Bad.
I used to be unabashedly proud to recommend to people that they give Apple a close look before buying a computer. I'd be out of my mind to recommend Apple again until they get off this self-destructive, kamikaze trajectory. They have absolutely exceeded their capabilities for quality product development, and are no better than Microsoft.

  • How to get win7 installed on optibay HDD on macbook pro

    Hi all,
so I am in a bit of a pickle
I recently bought a new 15" MPB with an apple installed 128gb SSD drive.
My plan was to install a 2nd hard drive in the DVD spot, a 500gb with a 70ish GB win7 partition. I would like to use Win 7 for screencasting for windows tutorials and for Gaming...mostly for gaming
I thought, naively, that this would be a simple boot agent setup...boy was I wrong.
I have already installed the 500gb drive in the optibay, it is working fine
I did not realize that a macbook pro cannot boot to an external drive or dvd. I could be wrong here but all my research seems to indicate that it can't...using something like refit does not fix this problem
I tried going through the boot camp setup with my external dvd drive attached through USB...did not work
also tried a USB thumb drive...no dice
    sooo
any ideas on how to get a win7 install on my 2nd drive?
I'd like to avoid having win7 on my 128gb ssd as there is limited space
can I install win7 on the drive on an actual windows machine and then transfer it to the macbook?
could I install the win7 partition to my ssd boot drive and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the partition to the 500gb?
its actually kind of an interesting problem...but I'm stumped
    any and all help appreciated.

I'm sure someone else who knows about this will pitch in. Although my monitor is HP 23 inch  and has both VGA and HDMI and have no issues. I don't have the miniport to VGA connector so I can't test it out with the VGA. Sorry for my inconvenience.

My ipad is saying I have app updates to install, but won't allow me to update. The update screen is blank. Any ideas on how to fix?

There are a number of other threads from people reporting a problem with a blank Updates tab in the App Store app - it looks like there is a problem at Apple's end which they need to fix.
Some posts are suggesting that you if you go into the Purchased tab in the App Store app you might be able to update the apps from there, though you will need to scroll through the list to find those with updates and individually update them.

  • Win7 install looking for CD ROM driver (after loading from CD) cannot find it so fails to install.

    Product: HP-IQ-775
OS? Gone!- Was WIndows Vista HP-SP2, but System Recovery wiped it out!
Error Msg: Current message that is stopping the installation of Windows 7 is "Missing CD/DVD ROM Driver- Please insert disk, or browse to location of driver" Browse accnot find driver needed (whatever it is... it is running form the bootable CD drive, so obviously it found something!)
Changes? Oh yeah, you bet!! I have had so many problems with this machine, I cannot list them all. After running the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, which reported only 2 issues, both software and both resolved, all OS upgrades installed, all drivers updated, ran the MS Malicious Software app, then attempoted an upgrade from Windows Vista- Home Premium, Service Pack 2. Long story short, after 3 days of 'installing Windows 7' on the screen, it failed. No explanation just "update failed, system will rollback to Vista". The rollback was uneventful, but sytem began having problems. Missing drivers, USB ports failed, CPU Fan Failure shut downs, blue screen after blue screen. I sent my system logs to an MCSE 'expert' and he reported " there are so many issues in the logs, that it would be a miracle if the machine ever ran again" He suggested Formatting the drive and instaling Win 7 clean. WIth far too much going on  with projects, I could not do this. Ultimately, Updates would not work, A/V software would not update, Vdeo software would not run. I contacted Microsoft, and after a week or so of email volleys, they escalated it to thieir 'expert', who after a few hours troubleshooting remotely, and multiple failed System Restores, said the only hope was a System Recovery.
After backing up everything today, I did the System Recovery from the Factory Image, the result was fatal! It went through the first half, erasing my operating sytem and associated files, drivers etc, it reported "Error found in Sytem Configuration, System Recvovery not completed", leaving me with an X drive, a C: drive tith nothing on it, and between the two, sho about 30GB of space total, on a 500GB drive!
I figured this would be the best time to do a 'clean install' of Windows 7, as I no longer had an OS to upgrade! I ran my Win7 Install disk, which ran fine, loaded its files, then reported "missing CD/DVD driver. PLease insert floppy, CD or flash drive, or browse to external drive with driver location"
Needless to say, I could find noting that it would accept. I even downloaded a driver from TSST (CD OEM) but the installer would not accept it from the flash drive. That is where I am now. No OS loaded, partitions screwed up, command prompt finds noting but X: (Recovery files?)29GB,  and C: what is left of it, it shows 9GB. Where is the rest of my disk? Who knows.
I have 5 external drives, full system backup on one, all data files on another, System Recovery Backup on another, but cannot access anything with no OS. I can only use the Win7 install boot disk to access the computer at all, and it has limited functionality.
I am writing from my HP-dv-9720 notebook, which has its own OS issues (still running on Vista basic as it will not install SPs), so it is available for email and driver downloads if necessary.
    Anyone want this challenge?
    Thanks
    Doug

WOW! 9 months later and not a sigle response. And now I am back! (Windows7 worked fine BTW!) Now I have the FAN FAILURE, yet the only thing that works on the computer, IS the FAN!! HP is ware of this problem but has done nothing except post a bunch of unrelatre (to IQ-775) stuff! A replacement fan (not that it is needed) is over $300, almost half of what I paid for the entire system!! BS! This is a latent defect and should be fixed by HP!
I currently have 3 HP computers, 5HP printers and an HP plotter! I have been a loyal HP customer fore over 20 years! IF they do not fix this, FREE, I will NEVER buy another HP product again! That is a promise! This is pure BS!  The machine will not boot due to a false "fan failure' report. both fans are running fine, and always have. The defect is in the reporting software or fan firmware, NOT the fan!
I will be back in 9 months to answer myself again!
