Fresh Windows XP Install SATA Driver Error

I'm trying to install WinXP on a new SATA Maxtor 120GB drive, and get the following error after pressing F6 and specifying the additional device:
"File TXTSETUP.OEM caused an unexpected error (1024) in line 1742 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c."
The drive is on the ICH5 SATA controller in the first position.  It is recognized by the BIOS correctly, along with the combo drive on the P-ATA controller.
Any suggestions???

I really don't know the ICH5 well enough to determine if there is an optimal reason why you select the PATA only or the SATA only to match the primary boot device. In the boot sequence you can boot in whatever order you want, and with the F11 key you can boot off whatever device you want. Whatever works is usually OK, but when things don't work, try the right way at least once

  • Fresh Windows Vista Install (X:/ drive)

I have a HP Pavilion Elite m9500Y and I wish to use a windows vista install DVD rather then the recovery DVD's/partition.
When ever I boot to disk and go through the reinstall process, when I get to select drive it only has X:/ drive available.
Is this some type of boot drive? Is it because of something RAID related? I would like to know how to get around this.

Hello ddwcmp555, I'm not quite sure why you do not see any available disk\partitions to install Vista on.
Here  is the link for the specifications for your system, and it shows the system shipped with a 750 GB hard drive and no Raid Array. It also shows the system shipped with Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Media Center (64-bit) with Vista Service Pack 1.
The X: partition is created during the start of the Vista installation, as a temp. partition to store the Vista setup files. When the setup completes successfullly, this X: partition is removed.
Can you advise where you acquired the Vista DVD, and if your Vista DVD might be an upgrade version rather than a full version. An upgrade version would look for the original operating system, before proceeding with the installation process.
Please click the White Kudos star on the left, to say thanks.
Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem.

Yes, you can install a SATA drive in but you must do the following settings:
    ATA On Chip Config: Native
    ATA Mode: SATA Only
    PATA Keep Enabled: Yes
    PATA Channel Selection: No
    Set SATA as RAID: No
    The rest at defaults.
Next, you can't copy and paste windows from drive to drive as there'll be alot of i386 and winnt/system32 files being locked, thus unable to be copied over.
not looking to copy &paste but will use software that comes with sata drive or some other program to copy win xp to sata drive. will that work?

  • [Serious BUG] Youtube crashes to death; fresh Windows 7 install; firefox and plugins updated; plugin-container.exe disabled; noway

This happens to me and to two friends of mine. So it's hardly a coincidence.
I have done a fresh Windows 7 install (for other reasons) so I thought this problem (which I had since about version 8.0) would disappear. I was wrong.
    Firefox and plugins are updated:
    Firefox 13.0
    Shockwave Flash 11.3 r300
GPU video drivers are also updated.
I came across the "plugin-container.exe solution" but it didn't solve the problem.
    How to reproduce the bug.
Visit Youtube and click on some video. Minimize Firefox. Wait some seconds. Next time you restore the window Firefox crashes, you have to kill plugin-container.exe from the task manager OR you have to restart the entire browser in case you've disabled the plugin container.
The same bug should occur when having various tabs open and one of them is Youtube with a video playing. But also when Firefox has no focus and you have other windows on top of it (and a Flash video running or even paused).
    Since this does happen:
    -with a fresh install;
    -with everything updated;
    -even disabling the plugin controller;
it seems very very strange to me that this problem is STILL present since version 8.0 (or even before) and that there is so few reports of this bug around the internet.
I'm not complaining here, I'm just showing my perplexity about almost noone having this bug which is ruining my (and my friends') Firefox experience since the past years.
    My purpose here is:
    * to let you know about this problem;
    * to know if other are experiencing it;
    * hopefully to keep giving support to this thread and answer to your questions about this bug so to help this thing being fixed;

For problems that occurred with Flash 11.2 and earlier, you might want to consider disabling graphics hardware acceleration in both Flash and Firefox.
    '''Flash'''
Right-click any video in Flash Player and choose Settings.
Clear the checkbox for "Enable hardware acceleration"
    '''Firefox'''
Save all work (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    Restart Firefox.

  • Can't boot from windows 7 install usb drive created in bootcamp

So, my real problem is that my Windows 7 install won't boot after I installed some windows updates. I'm using OSX Lion and the latest version of Bootcamp. I've had Windows installed on my mid 2011 mac mini for only about a day. It had been working flawlessly so far.
Windows automatically downloaded and installed some updates and now it is broken.
When I attempt to boot windows I get a black screen that just hangs forever. No windows logo, no blinking cursor, no nothing.
I thought I could use my Windows 7 Install usb drive to maybe try and do a recovery or repair install but now my USB drive wont boot either. I get the same black screen.
Any ideas on why I can't boot even the install usb drive?
Note: this is the same USB drive I used to install windows the first time so it's definately capable. I've even used my install iso to re-create the usb drive installer and still nothing.

Install ISO means you burned DVD installer and did you reduce burn speed? otherwise it is a bad install.
3rd party updates? for security suite? stick to MS Security Essentials instead.

  • Error BSOD when installing SATA drive on 1 & 2 (RAID 0 on 3/4 AOK)

    Hi,
I have successfully installed Win XP Pro on 3 & 4, & wanted to install a Maxtor 120GB SATA drive on 1 or 2.  When I do this, & enable bios on 1 & 2, windows loads then prompts for a reboot due to the install of new hardware.  After posting & whilst Win is starting, it BSOD with IRQ_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS etc.  I shut down computer, remove SATA drive, alter settings back to before in Bios & select last successful settings & computer reboots AOK.  This happens on both SATA 1 & 2.
Is there a way of having the SATA storage disk on 1 or 2.  Is it best to hot install it with the O/S up, after having changed BIOS settings to enable SATA 1 & 2?

To answer my own question, while computer is turned off, (after taking anti-static precautions) plug power to sata drive.
Connect sata data cable to M/board, do not connect sata data cable to drive.
Enable sata 1 & 2 in bios, boot to windows.
    Drivers are installed for device.
Then carefully plug sata data cable into sata drive.
    Windows detects new hardware.
Enter Disk Management & partition/format to your hearts content.
Thanks to those who had a look at my post.  Hope this helps someone else.

  • NEED HELP w/ P35 Neo Combo and Windows XP Install Stop 0x24 error BSOD

First a little background, in case it's relevant:
I was running a 865PE Neo2 with 4 x 1gig Corsair DDR2 6400.  Otherwise, same specs as below. Ran it for 2 years without a hitch, then got a virus that corrupted my profile and had trouble booting, logging on, and persistent virus messages.  Long story short, I fried the BIOS and decided to replace the mobo and upgrade the memory, keeping the rest of the system intact.  I previously had windows installed on both partitions of the HDD but changed the name of the directory for Windows on the C: drive so it would boot from the D: drive.
I have replaced 865PE with the P35 and changed the boot sequence to boot from CD.  The BIOS loads fine, and I get to the windows setup screen ok.  Whether I opt for Recovery Console, or a new install of Windows, I get a BSOD error message below.
    STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902FA, 0xf7906700, 0xf7906400, 0xf7103bef)
    ntfs.sys Address F7103BEF base at F709f00, Datestamp 3d6de5c1
I tried with both new and old memory (in the right slots) and get the same message.  I booting with no memory because I read in another post that the system should beep to indicate no memory and there was no beep.
BIOS recognizes the HDD, CPU and Memory so not sure what the problem is.  Should I try taking the HDD out and reformatting it on another PC? (not easy since I don't have another desktop pc) Please help with some suggestions.  Thank you.

I didn't know that the P35 Neo board ran ddr3...
That's where the 'Combo' part in the name comes into play, 2 DDR2 or 2 DDR3.

  • Missing HD icons from desktop after fresh 10.6 install on drive!  Help!!

Here's the deal. I just bought an OWC Mercury Extreme Pro SSD drive, and I also bought an IcyDock converter so that the 3.5 SSD drive will fit in a standard 5.25 Mac Pro hard drive bay. I put in the drive (I also have three other SATA drives in the other bays), reformatted the SSD drive to a Journaled HFS+ file system, and loaded a clean install of 10.6 onto the SSD drive. After the OS boots up after the fresh install, everything seems to be working just fine, except that there are NO hard drive icons (not mounted?) on the desktop. If I open up a Finder window, all of the drives are available to the left, and all of the drives are available within Disk Utility. The Finder seems fully functional, and if I take a screenshot, the file WILL APPEAR on the desktop.
If I use my original boot drive, all of the disks mount just fine on the desktop...this is only happening when I am booting from the SSD drive. The speed of this drive is awesome, but there is no way I can work around the hard drives not mounting to the desktop!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Is it the SSD drive? Could the IcyDock bay mount kit be the culprit? A PRAM reset doesn't seem to do anything either.
    PLEAAAAASE HELP!!!!!

That helped me tremendously, too - I just loaded Snow Leopard and wasn't sure how to get the HD icons on the desktop. Your link was the first in Google and saved me a lot of frustration!

  • Lenovo W540 FRESH Windows 7 Install

Hi, Im trying to install fresh Windows 7 x64 (Volume License media) to my company W540.Windows 7 Installation does not find any hdd and install stops here.I have tried drivers from lenovo site and directly from Intel site (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) and Lenovo CSSM driver back drivers but no success. Installaton suggest Chipset 8 ACHI Drivers as it should? but still it does not find any hard disks.Bios is updated to latest version (V.2.21). (Still no "legacy mode available for SATA in bios). Suggestions or knowledge? Regars!

One thing you could do is to temporarily put the hdd into a different machine and perform the first step of installation (file copying) there. Then put the hdd back into your w540 for the rest of the install process. I used this method to fresh install Win7 from a DVD onto my W550s, which lacks a DVD drive.

  • 'Windows cannot install required files' error while installing Vista SP1

I'm installing Vista Client SP1 on my Macbook pro and getting the following error:
Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation.
Almost exactly as described in this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930984/ except my error code is 0x80070017. I'm double-checked CRC on my dvd to ensure it's not corrupt. Also I've previously successfully installed Vista SP1 from the SAME DVD on a different Mac Leopard (desktop)
Any ideas? This is a new Macbook pro, just got it yesterday. Could be DVD drive issue?
    Thanks!

Did you get far enough to delete the FAT partition BootCamp created, so you could create a new NTFS one?

  • Running Windows XP on sata drive

I'm just waiting for my new macpro to arrive and trying to get my ducks in a row for installing Windows XP onto a WD Raptor sata drive.
Can I install XP onto the sata drive using Boot Camp, I read somewhere that SL didn't give you that option but Leapard did. I haven't upgraded my version of BC yet to 3.1, still at 3.0.1 due to some problems I've heard about with version 3.1.
I would think the Raptor drive should be formatted for NTFS, does that get done with Boot Camp during the installation.
If choosing the sata drive is not an option with Boot Camp is there a work around.
    Thanks

    Hi Daleslad,
all harddisks in a Mac Pro are SATA-connected, so a Raptor shouldn't make any difference to a non-Raptor HD.
The formatting of the destination disk/partition is done during the Windows installation.
See the BootCamp Installation Guide pages 8 to 10 to be found here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
With some OEM Windows XP installation CDs Microsoft seems to have changed the formatting step of the installation, so you might have to have a look at frederic1943 solution in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2071417&tstart=105

  • Fresh Windows 10 install on a windows 7 system

    First, my system specifications:
    CPU: i7-920
    Memory: 6GB Ram
Storage: 320GB drive, 750GB Drive, 2TB drive, 120GB SSD drive, 250GB SSD Drive
    Video: Nvidia 670 GTX
I've been running windows 7 since 2008 or 2009 when i built this PC.  I've installed windows 7 at that point, and up to now, couldn't be bothered to reinstall windows at all.  At this point, C:\ is running out of space with loads of programs I've
    installed and stopped using.
Long story short,  when windows 10 officially comes out, i want to upgrade to windows 10, without upgrading windows 7.  I do not want to bring all that mess over into windows 10.  I would rather just install windows 10 on a new drive, and
format the 320GB drive. Last week, my wife surprised me with a 250GB SSD drive for my birthday, which i installed windows 10 preview onto.
I did find an issue that is still driving me up the wall.  Normally, by default in windows 7, Drive C is an aging 320GB seagate drive, D is a 750GB seagate, E is a 2TB WD, F is a 128GB SSD drive, and G is where my new SSD drive is located.  The
issue i came up with, is a permission error to access my data on all of those drives.  After installing windows 10 onto G:, i copied some files over (kee-pass2 data file, steam installer, nvidia graphics driver, a text file with my mIRC registration code)
so that i could get a new system up and running.
The problem I got was when i booted into windows 10, and tried to start or open any of these files, i was denied permission to open any of these files, including the text file with the mIRC registration code.  I've right clicked on these files, went
into security and added myself as the owner of these files, and am still being denied access to these files.  If I downloaded the drivers and the steam installer, they started fine.  The kee-pass2 software couldn't load the database at all, even
when i went to the windows 7 location and loaded the original file.
Steam could not access any of my steam installs on E:\, claiming a permission error.  When i tried to go into my steam directory on e:\ windows reported that i still do not have permission to access the file, and seemed to give me the option to take
    ownership.
To date, it's still claiming I don't have permission to access any of these files.  I've even tried making a local login with the exact same account name as on windows 7, with administrator's access, and am still being denied permission to access these
    files.
At this point, I'm feeling an impending sense of doom, and am currently believing that my idea of installing windows 10 without upgrading from windows 7 directly is not going to work.   The only way I can currently think of to resolve this issue is
to reformat all of my drives once I get windows 10 installed, and reinstall whatever games i want back from steam once I'm set up in windows 10.
Is there something I'm missing here?  Is there any thing I can do without taking such a drastic action?  Can I even upgrade to windows 10 for free in the way I want to upgrade?

I hate to say it but you seem to be making this harder on yourself. Reduce the problem to it's simplest form, you want to move data from one volume to another volume and it's giving a permissions error.
The first thing to eliminate is any form of disk protection such as Bitlocker or some sort of TPM implementation. Assuming you definitely don't use anything like that...
The next thing to do is dismount (or physically disconnect in this case) all volumes except the relevant pair, boot from the Win 10 volume and then try to access the information on the "data" volume. If this does not work then reporting back the
exact error would be beneficial. A screenshot of the Disk Management interface would also be very useful. Right-click the start menu for a shortcut to the snap-in.
Finally almost all applications (including Steam games) are best reinstalled fully upon completion of the OS install. The installation process for almost every game includes third party libraries, registry entries and so on that will be missing from the
new OS. Indeed Steam itself can give problems when "importing" a library through physical copy and repair. It's possible, but not advisable.
Moving data isn't the issue.  Reading existing data in it's current location is the issue.  This is occurring even after I renamed the system to be the same as the windows 7 system, and using the same user name and password.
I suppose it's some feature of the NTFS system to keep people from maliciously accessing a "secured" filesystem that they don't really have access to.  The problem with this case is, it's my data and i'm sort of being prevented from doing
    so.
To date, I have been able to get Windows 10 to read some directories after clicking a button to give me that access, and go eat dinner or watch a tv episode.  The issue is that it won't let me into my windows 7 user directory, even after spending an
hour going through my directory.  The only thing I can do is open an admin command prompt and manually xcopy what i want to access.  The other issue is that it appears to randomly forget that it managed to 'convert' some of the directories, and needs
to do it again.. and again.. and again.

  • Fresh windows 7 install for u400 wont take AMD graphics drivers

So I did a fresh install of windows 7 and I stupidly deleted the D: partitions which included the drivers. So now i resort to getting my drivers from the consumersupport website and it's giving me trouble.
Whenever i download the amd drivers and i restart for the drivers to take effect, i get BSOD. All the other drivers and even hot fixes work perfectly, it's just there is an incompatibility with the amd driver, according to customer service.
Any one had the same issue? if so, where did you download ur drivers to fix this issue?
In my opinion, it has something to do with switchable graphics... I don't know if it's possible, but i think i'm installing the driver software onto the intel onboard graphics.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem, and after a day of reloading windows 7 Ultimate and drivers in a different order, I decided to just do a "custom" install, and only install the "video card driver" option, and unchecked everything else.  After loading the rest of the drivers from the Lenovo Support site, everything works perfectly...and this was after I installed a 512GB Samsung SSD.  So, long story short, just do a custom install of the AMD driver, and just load the video card driver...not the CCC.

  • How do I install SATA driver?

I've got a Raptor and I'm running it in a K8N Neo Platinum. I've also got a Sony DVD recorder.
Which SATA do I hook the drive to and which IDE do I hook the recorder to?
Also, how do I install the SATA driver? I don't want to use RAID so do I still need to intall a SATA driver?
I ran into a problem when I was installing Windows XP and it said it couldn't load the device driver for my diskdrive and CD ROm Drive. I'm not sure why but I thought it might have something to do with SATA.
    Thank you,

Oh man it's been a long 24 hours!  The reason I'm just getting back is because I removed my IDE HDD from this PC and installed it in my new K8N Neo. Well, it wasn't the SATA HDD causing the problem. I then removed my PS from this computer and installed it in the new one. Well, it wasn't the PS. Then I swapped my new PC3500 Mushkin Enhanced Memory 1GB (2x512) for my 1GB of Corsair XMS PC3200 in my old PC. Well, XP installed without a problem. It was my DAMN RAM. I guess it's bad or the Neo just doesn't like it. Anyway, I finally got this computer (old) back up and running so I could post.
I put the Mushkin back in the Neo PC and tried to install XP again with just one stick at a time. It still wouldn't let me. I then lowered the speed of the memory down to 166Mhz from 200Mhz with one stick and XP loaded without a problem.
So what do you guys think? Is my memory bad or does this board just not like Mushkin PC3500?
Will I get hit will a restock fee from newegg when I return this memory and what memory should I get to replace it?

Hi, I am thinking of reinstalling Windows Vista Home Premium fresh on my laptop.
If I wipe the whole HD and install windows Vista or full Win 7 on it, is there a Toshiba Software bundle that I candownload for Satellite, essential for the laptop functions to run?
I have recovery Disks, problem is I downloaded Vista to Win 7 updater and Ran it , I thought all update was going to be doe online.Until it asked me to pop in Win7 update disk....which is nowhere mentioned until that point.
I reverted back to latest sys-restore, but certain applications are broken and not repairable, also messed up sounds and Video jitter freezes time to time.
(Not on website nor during updater that YOU NEED A WIN 7 DISK TO COMPLETE THE UPGRADE. Would it be so hard to mention it somewhere? Anyways that's another story which happened a while ago.)
