Friend spilled Drink on Macbook Pro... Keyboard sticky...

One of my friends spilled a drink on my macbook pro and half of my keyboard is sticky (under the keys) and i was wonding if there was a way to clean that safely.

Hi
That *****, but there is a sollution. What you need to do is the following....
Remove the top cover of the notebook and remove the keyboard...
Then, wash the keyboard with water only, making sure everything is clean and not sticky anymore.
Then the most important part is to let it dry properly, you can use a heardryer on a low heat. Just make sure its perfectly dry. Should be like new after you put everything back together.
We fixed a notebook that got some juice spilled on it like this. They wanted to replace everything, but we fixed it 100% with only time, effort and water....
ps, we even fixed the sticky cd-rom and removed all other juice with water aswell.
Most essential part is to make sure everything is dry!!!

  • Some coffee got spilled on my MacBook Pro keyboard

Some coffee got spilled onto the keyboard of my MacBook Pro keyboard (it's the newest model), when it happened I turned it off immediately and quickly turned it over to have it drip out of the keys. I blow-dryed the keys with cool air and let it sit upside down for almost five hours. I went to turn it on and it started working fine. Is there a possibility that my laptop got liquid damage if it's turning on fine? Should I take it into an Apple Store to double check? There isn't one near me so I'm trying to avoid a trip if I can.

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service ASAP. You are not qualified to handle liquid spills on a computer.

  • Spilled drink on macbook pro

I spilled a drink, rum and coke on my brand new Macbook Pro.  The liquid came from the side on the table like a little liquid swell.  It got the ports, the left portion of the keyboard, about and inch or 2 and a little on the vent area on the left about an inch or 2.
Immediately I powered down, held upside down, and dried it.  I then put it in rice in a pelican case over night.  I tried it the next day and it worked okay.  Okay, a little weird, but functioning.  Then It was working fine for about a week.  Now doesn't read battery, wont charge, powers on only if plugged in.  Then, it started reading battery again and working fine. Now today, after taking it to the Genius bar yesterday, it's not reading the battery again and now it's not powering on even when plugged in.  Green charge light on the charger connector is VERY light, can barley see it.
Should I disassemble and clean with 99% alcohol like I've read in many threads?
    Please help!

dont turn it on, water / liquids migrate.
Turning it back on is BAD, damage A can lead to B leads to C etc.
Also water migrating around, especially while on, can wreck havoc worse than initial damage.
Nobody here can speculate on damage on something they cannot see.
Having repaired laptops in the past, even IF you got it completely dry, residue from water (iron particles etc), and wet spots under fine contacts is nearly impossible to "dry out", its just doesnt work that way.
Lots of people try to "dry it out", most to learn little was solved in doing same, and sometimes further damage occurred.
Taking it apart, youll just about never "dry out it out" due to the all the hidden spots that will REMAIN wet for some time, even IF you dry to "dry it out"
Make appt. with Apple store fore repair / diagnostic.
dont turn it on again.  Sorry about the spill

  • Macbook Pro keyboard sticky keys bug

    Hello!
I have macbook pro retina 13" (Late 2013) and from time to time my keyboard suddenly starts to repeat last pressed keys, writing a pattern like a "AbcAbcAbcAbcAbcAbcAbcAbcAbcAbcAbcAbcAbcAbcAbc" in occasions, when I wanted to write "Abcdef". I have never spilled liquids on my keyboard or something else.
I haven't found any pages and discussions with the same problem and solutions for it.

You have already done the "standard" troubleshooting approaches. As much as you hate to take it in, I think that is your best option.

  • When spilled water on MacBook Pro keyboard?

Ok, I haven't spilled water yet however, I just wanted to prepare for the accident so I don't have to lose my valuable investment.
I have done some research however, there were some controversies so I came to ask for the best answer from the Apple Support Communities people.
So what is the best course of action when spilled water on MBP keyboard?

There have been lots of posts about water (and worse) spilled on Mac portables. Turning upside down, covering the computer with uncooked rice and many other "cures" have been posted but, most of the time, fail to prevent damage, even if only "pure water" is the invader. The damage is done when the water hits the live logic board, so the usual interventions only prolong the inevitible--a complete rebuild or a new computer.
The bottom line is that , in the majority of cases, the computer is ruined, or the repair cost would almost buy a new one.
The absolute best proactive step is to have homeowners'/renters' insurance that covers accidental damage to computer equipment. AppleCare does not. Get a deductible low enough that you can cash-flow the deductible.
Other things to consider "before the fact":
---Don't eat or drink near your laptop.
---Don't let friends eat or drink near your laptop. Hide the computer when they come to visit.
---If you have friends with IQs lower than the legal speed limit in the US, give them a blessing and then go find some smarter friends.
---If you have a cat, be aware that many cats see an open notebook computer as a drop-off station for biological samples. At best they find the keyboard to be a warm place to sleep. Keep the lid shut, even if you walk away from the computer for only a few minutes. Most computer techs will not even look at a compuer that's been fouled by a pet; they view it as a biohazard.

  • Spilled beer on Macbook Pro keyboard

I had a going away party and made the mistake of leaving my computer in the living room after going to sleep. I woke up in the morning and the computer was closed but when I opened it I discovered that beer had been spilt on the keyboard. Everything works fine, the computer booted up normally and there are no issues besides a few of the keys sticking. The space bar sticks the most. What should I do? Should I remove the keys myself and wipe them down or do I need to take it to a repair shop to have it cleaned? I am moving to France for a year on Thursday and really want to get it figured out before I go.
    Thanks!

liquid + electronics = short in the circuit somewhere.
best solutions is to take it in for service - not covered under warranty.
any leftover liquid could've gone all the way to your logic board that might cause your issues if you keep on using it.
best solution is to have it looked at before more damage happen to your macbook.
    good luck

  • Spilled water on MacBook Pro many things are wrong is it a goner???

it thinks its december 31, 2000, the shift key is held down and nothing will save. is it hopeless?

    Possibly.
Immediately disconnect all peripherals, power cord & remove the battery.  Turn the computer over with the lid partly open and the hinge facing upward to let the liquid drain.  Do not flop it over and lay it flat - you want to separate it from the moisture.  Place paper or cloth towels under the machine to sop up the mess.
After the computer disgorges whatever you spilled on it, don't turn it on for 72 hours or longer.  You want to computer to dry out completely before turning it on again.
Some users here swear by hairdryers.  Blow drying the innards may bake whatever was in the liquid onto delicate computer components.  Better to let the computer air dry.
Use plain tepid water to clean out the computer.  If you spilled iced beverage more than likely this ice fried the hot motherboard.
Sugary, acidic or milky drinks will almost always cause problems later on as the residue starts slowly corroding the computer innards.
Swab down any sticky parts with distilled water or denatured alcohol.
If none of the above works, you will need to take the computer to a repair shop.  Apple Care does not cover liquid or food damage.

  • Macbook Pro Keyboard and Trackpad Not Working

few days ago, my Macbook Pro keyboard and trackpad started to act very oddly.
Basically, the keyboard doesn't work at all. I press down the keys, and all I get is that error message sound. The volume and display brightness keys seem to work, but almost all of the others just won't type anything. it-s like any key command or alt would stay pressed so when i click any key its trying to perform other function instead of just typing the letter. that-s probably the reason why the trackpad is also being very odd. When I first turn on the laptop, it seems to work as normal. I can click on an application, and it opens. But about one minute after the laptop first starts, it's like anywhere I click on the trackpad is a right-click. To open an application, I click like I normally would but instead of opening, a menu pops up as if I right-clicked. This happens in Finder and everywhere else that I've tested (for instance, I can't drag any Finder windows to different positions on the screen, because it acts as if I right-clicked instead of left-clicked), no matter whether I tap or click the trackpad.
I have reset my permissions, but that didn't fix anything. I verified the hard drive and it said there were no problems. A big issue is that I can't do anything that requires me to type in my password, since I can't type anything. I tried to reset the PRAM, but I don't think that it even registered me pressing the Command-Option-P-R keys when I booted up, so i just removed the battery for a while, i am not sure that did anything at all.
i tried to reinstall the os, i had mavericks and i installed a fresh mountain lion but the problem persists. i recently installed virtualbox and the keyboard seems to work right as long as i do not press any of the following keys command, alt, shift, etc.. if i press any of them same thing happens. i found that if i connect a usb keyboard everything works, but when i use the inbuilt keyboard the problem is back and a i have to connect disconnect the usb keyboard to be able to type or use the trackpad normally.
    any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • How can i change my macbook pro keyboard buttom english to arabic

How can i change my macbook pro keyboard buttom english to arabic

Apple does make and sell MacBook Pros with Arabic keyboards but, as far as I know, they're only sold in the Arabic market. You may be able to special order one: I don't know. You may even be able to order the keyboard only online or at your local Apple Store and have your English keyboard replaced. Again, I don't know.
The best thing to do, if you're in the US, is to call Apple at 1-800-MYAPPLE. Tell them what you need and see how they might go about fulfilling your needs.
    Good luck,

  • Why does my Macbook pro keyboard and trackpad randomly become unresponsive forcing restart in OSX Mavericks?

Randomly when using OSX Mavericks, since installing yesterday, my mid-2012 Macbook Pro keyboard and trackpad freeze and become unresponsive.
The computer is still running whatever I was doing, the computer does not crash, i just cannot control it and the only way I have found as a fix is to restart.
This never happened in Mountain Lion.
    Can anyone help?

    Very similarly.
Mac Mini late 2012. i7 CPU, 16GB ram. 12GB unused.
After installing Mavericks, it seems to grind my system to a halt. It is still running (I can move the cursor and activity monitor updates processes) but every application I try to launch results in a colorful waiting sign. It even can take a minute or more before an application shows "any" sign of starting.
I tried to open a terminal session (so I could manually kill a process) but the terminal session did not even process. It timed out after 5 minutes.
Acitivity monitor shows 90-95% idle and I have no idea what's causing it.
I have already rebuild disk and reset permissions (all seemed fine) 3 times.
I've rebooted over 8 times since last night. I cannot use my Mac anymore reliably.
    Please help.

My MacBook Pro keyboard not working correctly after Win7 bootcamp installation.
Installation went well but when I boot either with OSx or Win it always keeps Windows keyboard.
How can I have Mac keyboard in OS boot and Win keyboard in Win boot?

Hi - I have the exact same model as your MacBook and had a few questions as mine is acting up. I upgraded the ram to 8gb (2x 4GB ram) and ever since then my computer has not been running as smoothly and the start up time is horrendous. Have you encountered this problem? And if so how did you fix? What would you advise me do?
I was thinking of reverting back to the original factory 4GB then rebooting the entire computer. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Spilled liquid on MacBook Pro - won't start - any suggestions?

spilled liquid on MacBook Pro - won't start - any suggestions?

Thank you both for your responses! I watched a video on how to remove the hard drive - special tork(?) screwdriver and too many steps for me to feel confident about doing it myself, so I took the computer to an Apple Store - and thank God, the hard drive appeared undamaged - they are transferring the data to a new Macbook Pro. The loss of data was the scariest part, so I am breathing again!
The laptop was three years old, I was hoping for another year or so before upgrading, but such is life. I appreciate your upfront advice.

  • My friend was Bootcamping his Macbook Pro halfway when he cancelled it and it refused to boot afterwards.

My friend was Bootcamping his Macbook Pro halfway when he cancelled it due to it running slowly, the Bootcamp Assistant cancelled but the Macbook froze after that and he had to force quit the application. When he restarted the Macbook, it showed the typical white screen and then it switched to a black screen with a underscore at the top left corner. From my experience, it is booting into Windows when it showed the black screen with the underscore and now its kinda stuck and unable to boot into Mac Os X Lion nor Windows 7. Any help for this? And this is a school Macbook with some Master Admin password so it may not be able to enter BIOS but perhaps we can select the boot device. He is screwed if it cannot be fixed :/ Thanks to all who help!
