FRM _40200: You cannot update this field

How can I get this message to display?? I have a text item which has insert allowed, and update allowed set to false, and if the user tries to update the text item, then I want that message to display, like I have seen on other forms... but it doesn't...
cheers

Hi Paul,
Try getting the warning message , i don't remember FRM-40.... <cannot update field> and using this message warning in ON-ERROR trigger in order to display the message you want...
Or ,
getting the status of the text item (new , updated , changed) and on a trigger such as post-text-item , key-others .... call the message procedure to display the message you want....

  • HT2404 When I try to download free updates for apps, I've suddenly started getting an error message saying: You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software." But I do own the apps. And I haven't changed my ID

When I try to download free updates for apps, I've suddenly started getting an error message saying "You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software".
But I HAVE owned the software, for ages. (And, in any case, the apps in question are all free.)
And I don't have multiple Apple IDs.
    What can I do?
    Any advice much appreciated

This can occur if you bought the machine used and iLife was reinstalled with another AppleID.
This also can occur if the "free apps" you downloaded have paid upgraded versions and/or are now payware and you can't get updates.
All software from MAS is copy protected, it might be free as in "no charge" but it's not free in the sense you can share it with others.

  • You cannot update this software as you have not owned a major version of this software? This is what I get when I try to update my apps on itunes.

You cannot update this software as you have not owned a major version of this software? This is what I get when I try to update my apps on itunes. What does this mean..I have been having trouble..and reached out but they seem to not understand the problem.. No one has been able to help..It is like I don't have my past history with them anymore? I don't have my past purchases either.

Same here. Just becoming a nightmare. Updated iTunes and now can't update apps it itself is showing as available updates. Count me in on the latest "You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software." bug.
Next I have to post about a new problem in iPhoto on a new thread.... it lost the "link" between some but not all photos I have in the library and what it itself posted to FaceBook a few hours ago...
    Incredibly frustrating.

  • Applications problem: "You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software."

    Hi all,
RE: Applications problem: "You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software."
Until recently, I have not encountered this problem.  And I am facing this problem for both my iPad and iPhone.
I only have 1 iTunes account and the most recent change was that I switched the location from Singapore to UK (I'm currently in the UK).  I also updated my applications a couple of times before since the change in location, so I doubt it's due to the location change.  I've tried signing out of the account in the iTunes accounts on the devices, then signing back in.  I've also tried restarting the devices (and for the iPad, I even updated the iOS).
Any idea what else I can do to try to rectify this?
    Thanks and regards,
    Tammy

    Hi there!
    Thanks for replying!
    1.  Yup, my iOS is the latest (6.0.1), and I have 7 apps on my iPhone that apparently have updates.  But it's been 6.0.1 for quite some time and I've also been able to update the apps till just this week.
    2.  I don't have a credit card associated with my account anymore.  Ever since I changed the location, I removed the credit card details.  But I didn't have problems with any of my apps (updating or downloading new ones) until this week.  Also, all the apps I've downloaded since I came to the UK are free apps.
    I still don't know what's wrong.

Going from iPhoto v 8.x.x to V 9.x.x is called an upgrade and requires the purchase of iPhoto 9.
To go from v 8.1 to v 8.1.2 is an update and is free.

  • IBook Store error message "you cannot update this item"

When my book was finally in the iBookstore, I purchased it, to see how the process works and if everything is ok for a potential customer. Turned out that I mad some minor mistakes, which I fixed (hopefully) and published an new Version (successfully, I guess). Now I need to update the purchased book to cheeck if everything is ok.
There IS an Update in the iBookstore, but trying to run the update ends up in an error message "you cannot update this item".
My fault? Not my fault? What to do?
    Has anyone an idea?

It took quite a while to find this:
    Dear xy,
Thank you for purchasing “Inside Apple”. A new version of the book is available to you at no charge.
Here is how to download the new version:
    1) Tap the iBooks app on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. If you are already in the iBookstore, tap on “Library”.
    2) Tap the “Edit” button.
    3) Locate “Inside Apple”, tap “Edit” and then “Delete” to delete the book.
    4) Tap the “Done” button.
    5) Tap the “Store” button, scroll down to the bottom of the page and sign out of your account.
    6) The page will refresh. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and sign back in to your account.
    7) If you are not already in the “Purchases” page, tap the “Purchases” icon at the bottom right corner of your screen.
    8) Locate “Inside Apple” in your purchases and tap the “Redownload” button.
You will now have the updated version of the iBook in your library. Thank you for being a loyal Apple customer and have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    iTunes Store Team

  • HT204074 "You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software."

Why can't I update my apps?  This message appears "You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software." I did not encounter this before even after changing my iphone.

I've also had this problem for the last month for my iPhone, thinking that it was because I switched country region in order to use these Canadian iTunes gift cards I got (still the most likely reason). But today I decided to just give it another try for the heck of it and they all started updating! May be because Apple fixed this problem, or may be because I re-formatted my computer and accidentally reverted all my data on my computer via Time Machine to several months ago before this problem started happening. I do have two different apple ID's (one is @me.com and another @gmail.com), so it could be an ID-related problem, although re-checking all my accounts on the iPhone everything is still signed-in the same way with when I was having the problem... so it makes me think Apple fixed it? Maybe give it another try... good luck.

  • You cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software."

    Moved from London to India
    Did try changing the password....

I am having a similar issue.  When I upgraded to iOS5, I was forced to supply an email address as my appleID.  Now, the old user ID, without an email address, no longer works.  I cannot update the hundreds of apps I have, many of which were purchased.  Apple support has stopped responding to questions.
    Does anyone have a solution?

  • HT1338 you cannot update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software.

why do i get the above message when i try to update these programs? i ordered these programs p[reinstalled with the imac.

You have the latest versions as shown in the Mac App Store. Updates from the Mac App Store can only show when you actually open it. Software Update checks from time to time and shows this icon in the Dock:
Though I don't see why it would offer updates - I don't get them and I have slightly lower versions than yours (from the box set). I'm not sure why you are seeing these nags.

My software were downloaded by other apple ID from where i had given for repair. Now same software am unable to update due to error.
how to get rid of this error, tried googling it but seems nobody is able to resolve the same

You need to delete all Apps installed via that guy's ID, else ask him for his password. Thereafter, log off out of his ID.
Login with your ID. Install Apps via own ID. That gives you complete ownership.
