Starting HTTP server from Oracle9i home
After successfully installing Oracle 9iR2 on Redhat AS2.1 I go to start Apache using apachectl start, from the Oracle Apache home directory and instead of OHS starting, Redhat's Apache starts up, from the /usr/sbin directory. I would like to use OHS but cannot seem to get it into the proper path in order to start it. I am new to Linux and any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
I was able to reset path to OHS by setting environmental variable
PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/bin:$PATH:$HOME/bin. However, now when I try
to start OHS using apachectl I recieve the error, "httpd could not be started".
The OHS error_log reads "[crit] (2)No such file or directory: Apache JServ
encountered a fatal error; check your ApJServLogFile for details if none are
present in this file. Exiting." And the only error encountered in the Jserv
log says that the ORACLE_HOME/Apache/jdk/lib/java could not be found. But, it
is there. How can I start OHS successfully? -
HOW TO MOVE DATAFILES FROM ONE DISK RAID TO ANOTHER:PLZ HELP ME :=)
Hi all,
For Tunning reasons : perform The I/O from the Instance to datafiles (database). I decide to move some Index datafiles from One DISK RAID to another.
I'm on Linux Redhat Server and Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0
My database 's On PRODUCTION and there 're many web applications updating some databases tables and for sure using Index tablespace. I preapared yet my procedure to move datafiles but I'm posting this to be sure that I will not have BAD EFFECTS on my Oracle database.
So I plan without SHUTDOWN MY DATABASE to these steps :
/*Step1 : */
ALTER TABLESPACE INDX OFFLINE ;
/*Step 2 : move datafiles to new disk raid*/
mv /u01/oraindx/DB01/indx01_05.dbf /u01/oraindx2/DB01/indx01_05.dbf
mv /u01/oraindx/DB01/indx01_06.dbf /u01/oraindx2/DB01/indx01_06.dbf
mv /u01/oraindx/DB01/indx01_07.dbf /u01/oraindx2/DB01/indx01_07.dbf
/*Step 3 : */
ALTER TABLESPACE INDX RENAME DATAFILE '/u01/oraindx/DB01/indx01_05.dbf' TO '/u01/oraindx2/DB01/indx01_05.dbf';
ALTER TABLESPACE INDX RENAME DATAFILE '/u01/oraindx/DB01/indx01_06.dbf' TO '/u01/oraindx2/DB01/indx01_06.dbf';
ALTER TABLESPACE INDX RENAME DATAFILE '/u01/oraindx/DB01/indx01_07.dbf' TO '/u01/oraindx2/DB01/indx01_07.dbf';
/*Step 4 : */
ALTER TABLESPACE INDX ONLINE ;
Please verify my procedure and tell me the precautions that I should take care :=)
regards,Werner,
If this is an active databases (indexes are used),
you cannot set offline the index tablespace.you can offline it.

Trouble adding regular oracle oci8 support to RPM, CentOs 5
Hello,
It seems that i'm missing smth simple while trying to add oci8 support to RPM.
I took Christopher Jones's SRPM for 5.2.3 as a base, but since i don't have and don't need a support for instant client i modified latest available 5.1.6 SRPM from CentOS 5 repo.
The compile env is :

%description
PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language. PHP attempts to make it
easy for developers to write dynamically generated webpages. PHP also
offers built-in database integration for several commercial and
non-commercial database management systems, so writing a
database-enabled webpage with PHP is fairly simple. The most common
use of PHP coding is probably as a replacement for CGI scripts.
The php package contains the module which adds support for the PHP
language to Apache HTTP Server.

I am trying to use the NLS support of Oracle 8i on windows
Nt/2000 platforms. I have tried configuring the database
characterset and the national character set as 'IN8ISCII' - the
one prescribed in the NLS documentation for India territory and
Hindi as NLS Language and territory parameters. I have also
tried configuring them as 'UTF8' a character set prescribed for
unicode /universal 8 bits ASCII character sets but i am not able
to insert any rows with these charactersets in NCHAR or NVARCHAR
columns. if i try to insert them in regualr char pr varchar
columns i can insert in the ascii formats and I have to retreive
them on front end through different mask format fonts.
If any one have tried the NLS support pls let me know how to
insert the records and retreive thenm in the national language..
Thanks in advance..

thanks a lot. -
I installed OID which come from the download version of Oracle 8i 8.1.7 on redhat linux 6.2. I use universal installer installed the software code and run postcfg script in $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/postcfg to generate the database and LDAP schema. After correct some
bugs manually in the postcfg(it is better to add one sentence of oidmon -start) and bugs in oidadmin(script in $ORACLE_HOME/bin, one is it point to a wrong place of jre, the other is it use a switch that only worked on sparc), I finally started the oidadmin.
BUT, I still can not login the OID from oidadmin. Can any guy kind give me some info on what is the initial password for oidadmin of OID? I have tried all combos that listed on the on-line help, like: cn=orcladmin, oracladmin, etc. it doesn't work. I also use sqlplus as system to search it in the tables
of the OID database, but find nothing.
Thanks for any info or hint!
nullHello:
Sorry it took so long to respond to your question. I was exhibiting OID at AppsWorld in Paris and New Orleans for the past 2 weeks.
Assuming you have followed the installation procedures from the "OID Installation Guide" there is one small bug patch that needs to be applied to the Linux versions. You can obtain a copy of this patch from the Oracle Metalinks web site:
http://www.oracle.com/support/metalink/index.html
Assuming that OID is up and running you should be able to start a gui JAVA tool from the command line prompt by typing in "oidamdin" or from your Linux Window console. The super user account name is "orcladmin" and the default password is "welcome". The default port number is 389. Also make sure you put in the host name of your machine.
Let me know if any of this helps. If not Ill try to help you reinstall OID to make sure it is installed properly. I am unable to fully understand where you are stuck from your description of the problem.
thanks,
Jay

Upgrade EBS 12.1.3 database to 11GR2 new environment file host name lowercase
We just finished EBS 12.1.3 upgrade database from 11.1.0.7 to 11.2.0.3 on REDHAT /INUX server. EBS version is no change.
after we run :
$ perl $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adbldxml.pl
$ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adconfig.sh contextfile=/u4/oracle/EBSTST01/db/tech_st/11.2.0.3/appsutil/EBSTST01_ora01.xml
It come out two environment files and host name all lower case:
/u4/oracle/EBSTST01/db/tech_st/11.2.0.3/appsutil/EBSTST01_ora01.xml
/u4/oracle/EBSTST01/db/tech_st/11.2.0.3/EBSTST01_ora01.env
before upgrade environment files host name are upper case. When run adconfig.sh we also type in upper case host name.
any one know what wrong?
Thanks.due to new XML file hostname is lower case. Some one tole me I can rename and edit file change Hostname to upper case.
$ perl $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adbldxml.pl
output file : /u4/oracle/EBSTST01/db/tech_st/11.2.0.3/appsutil/EBSTST01_ora01.xml
Can I:
rename /u4/oracle/EBSTST01/db/tech_st/11.2.0.3/appsutil/EBSTST01_ora01 ==> /u4/oracle/EBSTST01/db/tech_st/11.2.0.3/appsutil/EBSTST01_ORA01
then edit : /u4/oracle/EBSTST01/db/tech_st/11.2.0.3/appsutil/EBSTST01_ORA01 file content change lower case hostname to upper case.
Will it work or not?
Thanks. -
Is there any issues to use exp in a live production instance?
Hi all,
I'll migrate from 9.0.1 o hp-ux to a 10gR2 on Redhat AS E4
To prepare my upgrade, I need the whole structure from our 9.0.1 instance.
Can I without any danger / problem use exp to export the structure of our live instance while its actively running? (I mean while all our users are connected)
I suppose its ok but I'm trying to avoid all problems...
Thanks in advance, your advices are greatly appreciatedI'm trying to avoid all problems...Well, it depends on what you consider a problem. Assuming people are doing updates, an export on a running DB means that you'll lose some changes.
Another "problem" can be consistency : if you don't use CONSISTENT=Y you'll risk inconsistencies, if you set it, then you may need a lot of undo segments.
Apart from that, it should work... -

Lets discuss Apache under arch!
As a relatively new Arch-user(but still longtime linux-user mainly under Debian), I set out to setup a small local development-server consisting of mainly apache and mysql, and since I own a few domain-names, I was also going to set up some virtual hosts for certain subdomains.
While I rushed into doing this after installing apache and configuring systemd for it, I noticed my dear and beloved /etc/apache/sites-* and /etc/apache/modules-* system where nowhere to be found. I am met with a completely different system that reminds me more of the older almost single httpd.conf file, and a symlink to a modulesdir, all under /etc/httpd/ (!?).
This kind of setup is completely new to me, before if I wanted a virtual host, I just added a file to a directory and voila. Now I have to add every single virtual host into a single file!? On my old debian server I think I have like 10 different vhosts. If I wanted to activate an apache module I just created a symlink from /modules-available to /modules-enabled.
This is currently the biggest "issue" I wanted to duscuss, anyone who knows this system can you please share your thought on what I am supposed to do with it, what are the comfortable bits of this, and is it possible to revive parts of the old setup?
Also regarding the httpd-directory; With this thinking, what if I install another http-service I want to co-exist with apache, on another port? What would /etc/httpd/ contain? This part is just plain stupid to me right now.
The next issue: The new /srv-layout. It used to be /var/www and ~/www/ . Now I have a completely new rootfolder(something that seems to clutt it up even more actually, even though a www in /var was a little ugly.) Is /srv/ something I should just get used to?
Thanks for any thoughts on the matter!Haikarainen wrote:This kind of setup is completely new to me, before if I wanted a virtual host, I just added a file to a directory and voila. As someone with an RedHat and Arch background, I find the Debian way of Apache config arcane and annoying
Haikarainen wrote:This is currently the biggest "issue" I wanted to duscuss, anyone who knows this system can you please share your thought on what I am supposed to do with it, what are the comfortable bits of this, and is it possible to revive parts of the old setup?
Personally, as far as vhosts go, I create /etc/httpd/vhosts/ to hold a config file for each vhost, then create /etc/httpd/conf/extra/vhosts.conf that sets up the virtual hosting config, and includes vhosts/*
Haikarainen wrote:The next issue: The new /srv-layout. It used to be /var/www and ~/www/ . Now I have a completely new rootfolder(something that seems to clutt it up even more actually, even though a www in /var was a little ugly.) Is /srv/ something I should just get used to?
That's a long on-going debate in the Arch community. When you compare the FHS definition of each path, it does make sense to have your webroot(s) in /srv
/var = Variable files—files whose content is expected to continually change during normal operation of the system—such as logs, spool files, and temporary e-mail files.
/srv = Site-specific data which are served by the system. -

Hi,
I really need help from you guys to do regression of T1. my system is Redhat (the newest one) 32 bit running under VirtualBox. I have set the OpenSPARCT1.bash file but did not quite get the idea yet since I don't know if I have any of the EDA tools.
I did have Xilinx ISE 11.1. is there any tool like VCS built in there?
Anyway, I tried to run the sims but the following error occured.
any idea?

Hi again,
Is there a way to do failover for messaging server 5.2 to another ldap?
mail1 --> ldap1 (default)
when ldap1 down
mail1 --> ldap2
Both ldap1 and ldap2 are on different servers. And running MMR for o=Internet, o=pab, o=user suffixes.
Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.I posted this a while ago, but can't locate it anymore since Sun have 'tweaked' these forums, maybe it's archived !
It discusses how I set up failover for both user and config. trees in ldap. I used mult-master replic. The config. tree failover I found from reading about Netscape Directory Server V6.0 (now owned by Redhat) - See http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/dir-server/install/upgrade.htm#17635
There is also mentions to this PTA plugin in relevant directory docs on http://docs.sun.com. So you can have a good read.
Also point 7. in info below describes this.
Hi,
To successfully have a 'low cost' failover iDS5/iMS5 scenerio, you need to do a number of things. Or if you have a wad of cash use Vertias cluster (HA iplanet agents), etc. Directory server proxies (iDAR) :(
Currently I'm using a 'low cost' failover technique.
None of what I'm about to describe is in the SunONE doco. for iMS.
I have tested this in the Lab, all works, it's now in production. Before you do anything, test in the lab first, so you feel comfortable with the setups.
OK my scenerio.
Primary LDAP = ldap-a
Secondary LDAP = ldap-b
Mailserver = mta1
iDS5 = iDS5.1p1
iMS5 = iMS5.2p1
1. Install iDS5 on ldap-a. Acts a User dir. and Config dir. server.
2. Prep. ldap-a for iMS5 install (run ims_dssetup.pl).
- YES to schema files/indices
3. Install iMS5 on mta1, using ldap-a as User and Config dir. server.
- I have iMS5 configured in Direct LDAP mode.
4. Install iDS5 on ldap-b, use ldap-b as User and ldap-a as Config dir. server.
- No need populate the User tree on ldap-b (ie. example users from install)
- MUST USE ldap-a as config server, as you will be replicating this tree.
if not you will not be able to access the admin server, as you stated.
5. Also run ims_dssetup.pl on ldap-b.
- YES to schema files/indices
6. Setup multi-master replication between ldap-a and ldap-b.
- See Admin Guide, have a good read, needs correct setup !
- This allows read/write, thus seamless to email user for password
changing, PAB writes...if LDAP has failed over.
- Replicate all suffices
o=isp (User dir.)
o=internet (DC tree)
o=pab (PAB tree)
o=NetscapeRoot (Config. dir)
- Init consumer(ldap-b) from ldap-a for all suffices.
Note: Only problem with multi-master is uniqueness plugins, (if using) it's no problem aslong as you use ldap-a as master. See iDS Admin guide.
7. Now ldap-b requires a change to allow iMS5 to allow writes to o=NetscapeRoot in the event of failover. Otherwise the error message "ldap server unavailable, no configuration server, using locally cached values...whatever blah blah !
Managing Console Fail Over
If you have a multi-master installation with o=NetscapeRoot replicated between your two masters, ldap-a and ldap-b, you can modify the console on the second server (ldap-b) so that it uses ldap-b's instance instead of ldap-a's. (By default, writes with ldap-b's console would be made to ldap-a then replicated over.)
To accomplish this, you must:
Shut down the Administration Server and Directory Server.
Change these files to reflect ldap-b's values:
'serverRoot'/userdb/dbswitch.conf:
directory default ldap://ldap-b:389/o%3DNetscapeRoot
'serverRoot'/admin-serv/config/adm.conf:
ldapHost: ldap-b
ldapPort: 389
'serverRoot'/shared/config/dbswitch.conf:
directory default ldap://ldap-b:389/o%3DNetscapeRoot
'serverRoot'/slapd-serverID/config/dse.ldif:
nsslapd-pluginarg0: ldap://ldap-b:389/o%3DnetscapeRoot
Note: assuming your LDAP TCP port is 389
Turn off the pass through authentication (PTA) plug-in on ldap-b by editing its dse.ldif file.
In a text editor, open the 'serverRoot'/slapd-serverID/config/dse.ldif file.
Locate the entry for the the PTA plug-in: dn: cn=Pass Through Authentication,cn=plugins,cn=config
Change nsslapd-pluginEnabled: on to nsslapd-pluginEnabled: off.
Restart the Directory Server and Administration Server.
8. Now on mta1, using configutil, set options to these values
**a. local.ldaphost = "ldap-a ldap-b"
- Required to use both servers as Config dir. servers,
in the event of failover, config. is taken from ldap-b.
b. local.ugldaphost = "ldap-a ldap-b"
- Required to use both servers for User dir. lookups in event of failover.
c. local.service.pab = "ldap-a ldap-b"
- Required to use both servers for PAB lookup/additions in the event of failover.
** To make config dir. failover, shutdown Admin server. and change,
'serverroot'/shared/config/dbswith.conf:
directory default ldap://ldap-a ldap-b:389/o%3DNetscapeRoot
Restart Admin server.
OK that's all there is too it.
Now test everything, failover LDAP, test logins for email POP/Webmail, IMAP if used.
Test email connections (ie. inbound/outbound email conns)
Note:
Whatever LDAP server fails, iMS5 will continue to use other LDAP server, even when failed LDAP server comes online.
Either stop/start iDS5 on current LDAP server or stop/start iMS5, but not really necessary, depending on your environment, your call !
.....Well it worked for me !
Good luck ;) -
Hi Guys,
I have designed an applet and have placed in the htdocs of Apache server that comes with Oracle 9iAS when I can login to the db within my Lan it works fine but when I try to login from outside LAN through a dialup modem I get following error:
Error in Connecting to the Database java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
I know applets can only communicate with the server they are downloaded from, I have the DB on this same server where I am downloading applet from!
I am using a router to connect the server to the internet and have opened ports 7777, 4443 and 1521.
Any1 Any ideas??????????????
Thanx!The error you are getting is a client side error, you will find no log in the listener. The applet demo was tested. The only thing I can think of is the classpath, please make sure your HTML code is pointing to the right ones. Also, you may want to make sure your browser is compatible with the version of the classes you are using, I thought browsers today support jdk 1.1.

We have always the no suitable driver exception!
We worked thought different tries:
- with the JdbcApplet.java Sample from Oracle
- with the DriverManager.registerDriver

- with the Class.forName( "oracle.jdbc.dnlddriver.OracleDriver" ); approach
- with the driver = new oracle.jdbc.dnlddriver.OracleDriver(); approach
- we tried every possible kind of
getConnection method
Questions:
1. Is it possible to connect from an applet (jdk1.02) to an oracle8i database running under redhat 6.1?
2. The No suitable driver means for me,
that the listener has not found a
driver handling the TCP request for our
connection. Is this correct?
3. The listener works like the inetd.
It gets a connection forks the
requested process to handle the connection.
Is this correct?
4. Even if I check the listeners logs and
traces, there is never a request arriving
from my applet. What am I missing?
Help would be great!
