From a h8-1417c boot w8 from 1 hd and w7 from second hd
I want to have w8.1 on one hd and w7u on a second hd. being able to boot from either as needed. When I use the example on "http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03801890" windows 7 wants to check file parameters on a hd which one I don't know? I went back and forth with boot options in bios as well to no avail. Answers welcome. Thanks REW6

We are upgrading UCM from 8.5(1) to 10.5(1) and migrating from MCS to UCS. We used UCM 8.5 OVA (7500 user) and migrated to UCS.
Once migrated to UCS we upgraded UCM to 10.5(1). We wanted to use OVA to accommodate 10,000 users, hence took backup of 10.5(1) cluster and installed new servers with new 10.5(1) OVA (10,000 users).
While doing DRS restore, system we were not able to perform a restore. It seems UCM is not recognizing the XML file. It is strange as we took the back from UCM 10.5(1) and trying to restore same version, only difference is upgrade was done with 7500 user OVA and we are now trying to install 10,000 user OVA.
Has anyone run into similar issue? any help will be great.
Thank You.This thread is 5 months old but doesn't seem resolved...
I ran into this same scenario last week. Was using the same SFTP server for backups and restores during migration from 7.1(5) to 10.5 and during final rebuild/restore of the "to-be" production 10.5 Publisher, the DRS server was unresponsive and blamed the Master Agent or SFTP server. I had restarted Master and Local agent repeatedly, and regenerated ipsec certs to no avail.
TAC suggested I try a different SFTP server (which I already had, with the same files), and try deleting the .xml files that were included with the backup (drfComponent.xml and processhost.xml). I installed TitanFTP, per TAC's recommendation, deleted the processhost.xml file, regenerated the ipsec certificate one last time, restarted DRF Master, and then DRF Agent, and was able to start a DRS Restore.
Try the above process if you're still having issues. -

can anyone help me get all of my edited holiday video visible again? my mac upgraded itself from iPhoto where i keep my imported video and photos, to "photo" now all of my current project (and probably old ones as well! ) are showing media offline. how can i get this back seeing the clips on 'photo'?
When you open a project you need to point PPro to the new media location and relink
>mac upgraded itself from iPhoto
THAT is not good... I am Windows, but at least a Windows update gives ME the option of unchecking an update -
I just purchased a new iPhone5, the clerk set up the phone as a new device instead of restoring from iCloud. How do I go back and restore now?
Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content & Settings. This will bring you back to the initial setup screens, and allow you to choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below). Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as restoring may take some time to finish.

Hello,
I am using jdev 11.1.2.4.0...
The requirement is that users would like to upload images from their local drive to server drive and they would like display images from server drive later.
We don't want to keep images in database. I am not sure what the solution should be; however, I plan to ....
1. create a table to keep an information of images -- image_id, image_location (server drive), image_filename
2. create a page where users can enter image information and specific filename from a local drive (I think I will use inputFile component) and provide the preview button to display an image on screen before save it. To save data is to save information to the database and copy an image file to the server drive (the destination location for image files is predefined.)
3. create another page where users can browse information from the database and display an image for a selected record by getting from the server.
I need suggestions on...
1. how to display an image on page from the local drive?
2. how to copy a file from a local drive to a server?
3. how to display an image on page from the server drive?
Thank you.

Where Timo saves images to the database, you save it to the file system (examples on how to do this from Java are available plenty if you just Google for it). Similar to Timo you then use the image tag to display images. The difference is that you can directly add the URL from the database table.
The benefit of using a database to host images is that you are not dependent on file server structures though

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*'''Windows:'''
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

I have a particular newsletter I receive, usually just one from this site daily. The last few days the newsletter is coming in, but I am getting multiple mailings from this site but with it's "from, "subject" & contents are from other sites I subscribe to. They are all coming in under the name of one individual site. Hope someone understands this, hard to explain without showing and actually talking to someone. Thanks!
Difficult to judge the problem from you're description.
Hmmmm... let's shake the glass bowl > nope.
Question: any filters active in TB? If so have a closer look and deactivate some (all) and see if the problem disappears.
Second: Have a closer look at the headers of each individual message. Best be done by saving them as files and inspecting with a simple file editor.
Where are the coming from? to Whom are they sent?
Mind you the problem isn't necessarily on your (TB) side. The mailing-site could have it's database mixed up as well.

Passing params from SQL file to Shell Script and then from Shell to SQL Fil
Afternoon guys,
Have a fun question for all you gurus in shell scripting out there. I have a shell script that is calling 2
different SQL programs. My objective is to pass a variable called request_number from one sql program
to the shell script and then from the shell script back to another SQL program. I will explain why I
need this to happen.
Here is what the shell script looks like which calls sql programs student_load_a.sql and
student_load_b.sql. Student_load_a.sql basically creates the control file (.ctl) which is needed for the
SQL*Loader and then student_load_b.sql reads the table that was just loaded and does the main
processing. My main objective here is to be passing the request_number which is being generated
using an Oracle Sequence in student_load_a.sql and using this generated number in my main
processing in student_load_b.sql to select records from the table based on request_number.
Any ideas ?Any help or recommendations is welcome and appreciated.
*1. Shell Script*
# Accept system input parameters
p_user_id=$1
p_job_id=$2

Edited by: RDonASnowyDay on Jan 29, 2010 4:03 PMHow come you are mixing WinDoze script (*.exe) with Unix?
You are aware that you will be passing the password along with the user id to the second sql script?
I will assume Unix ksh:
# Accept system input parameters
p_user_id=$1
p_job_id=$2
# Create control files for sqlload
p_seqno=`sqlplus -s $p_user_id @$STUDENT_PATH/student_load_a.sql $p_job_id`
exit_status=$?
# Do sqlloads
sqlldr userid=$p_user_id control=student_load-$p_job_id.ctl \
log=student_load-$p_job_id.log \
bad=student_load-$p_job_id.bad
exit_status=$?
# Main processing
# sqlplus -s $p_user_id @$STUDENT_PATH/student_load_b.sql $p_user_id $p_job_id $p_request_number
sqlplus -s $p_user_id @$STUDENT_PATH/student_load_b.sql \
$p_user_id $p_job_id $p_seqno
exit_status=$?
exit 0And the first sql script would look like this:
-- student_load_a.sql
-- Accept system input parameters
set echo off pages 0 feed off lin 80 trims on ver off
def p_job_id = &1
col seqno NEW_VALUE seqno
select request_number_seq.nextval seqno from dual;

New laptop, how do I transfer iTunes and library from other computer?
I still have the original disk to install iTunes, but it won't install properly. My biggest worry is that I'm going to have to re-download all of my songs once I get iTunes onto my new commputer. Can someone tell me how I can transfer everything over, or if it's even possible?
Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your second computer is to network it with the first one and copy your iTunes folder across. Start by consolidating your library. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\ (or C:\Username\Music\ in Vista). Everything has to be exactly the same on the new computer including the Windows user account name. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the first computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the second computer.
If you have an iPod it can be used as an external drive and you can move the iTunes folder onto it: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If you have any iTunes purchases in your library don't forget that you'll need to authorise your new computer to play them. Also if you are disposing of the old one remember to deauthorise it so you don't use up one of your allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation -
As the title says, I'm attempting to boot off my favorite operating systems, Mac OS X, Windows 7 and FreeBSD from an external DVD drive. However, for some odd reasons, booting the Windows DVD and FreeBSD 9.1 install DVD from the external drive does not seem to work. I was able to create a bootable USB with the Windows installer, but whenever I attempt to do the same with FreeBSD, I only get an error message that says "No bootable device -- press any key to restart." Is this a limitation that Apple deliborately created? If so, why won't Apple let its customers do whatever they please with their computers, considering that customers who want to change the hardware and/or operating systems knows what he is doing, without having to worry about some silly Apple limitations?
If I sound rude, I apologize for that, as no impoliteness is intended from my side.
In advance, thanks. Have a wonderful day, everyone.That is only partially correct at best.
When you are booting off Windows or any other operating systems that usually don't support EFI (including Windows), your Mac uses something called CSM-BIOS. And as long as that CSM-BIOS implementation on EFI-based Mac do not support booting off from USB (note that Mac OS X Installer works fine when booting from USB), not even a USB Apple SuperDrive which once was an internal drive, there mot definately is something for Apple to fix.
When attempting to install Windows via BootCamp, a somewhat hybrid GTP/MBR table is created. When you boot off the installer disc of the OS you intend to install (i.e. Windows 7, FreeBSD, etc), your Mac might not support the EFI boot option (at least my 2011 17-inch MacBook Pro doesn't support that), so the only way of booting that second OS installer is via the regular BIOS, which Apple's EFI based systems implement as CSM-BIOS. -
Trying to boot arch from win7 with EasyBCD; "boot device not found"
EDIT: title was 'Dual boot with Win7, easybcd + syslinux, getting "Boot error"'. Narrowed down the issue to something unrelated to Arch, and felt this was more accurate. The Arch install is sound, it's getting win7/EasyBCD to load it that's the issue.
I got a new work computer and am trying to recreate my formerly successful setup, which I documented here some time ago. Unfortunately... I'm having issues. Just a note up front from scouring the internet for ideas: I cannot use syslinux (or any other bootloader) to chainload Win7 vs. the other way around! The computer drive is encrypted with McAfee Endpoint Encryption, and doing anything whatsoever with the MBR from outside of Windows will brick my computer. Just wanted to add that, as almost all issues involving dual boot inevitably bring about the suggestion to "just chainload windows from grub/syslinux/etc."
With that out of the way, here's the process I used:
drive setup
Here's the partition scheme:
- /dev/sda1: SYSTEM (pre-existing)
- /dev/sda2: C:, Win7 (pre-existing)
- /dev/sda3: /boot, ext2 (created)
- /dev/sda4: /, encrypted Arch root, cryptsetup/ext4 (created)
My process for creating the partitions is as follows:
- shrunk C: down from the Win7 built-in partition utility
- created two unformatted partitions with no drive letter using Minitool Partition Wizard, setting the partition ID to 0x83 for both
- booted from USB drive of the Arch installation .iso (downloaded Friday 5/29)
- booted x86_64 arch

installation
I just followed the Arch installation guide but documented my steps to a text file just to be sure...
# mount /dev/mapper/root /mnt
# mkdir /mnt/boot
# mount /dev/sda3 /mnt/boot
### connect to internet
# pacstrap /mnt base
# genfstab -p /mnt >> /mnt/etc/fstab

# echo arch_zbook > /etc/hostname
# ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/Chicago /etc/localtime
### uncomment en_US.utf-8 in /etc/locale.gen
# locale-gen
# echo LANG=en_US.UTF-8 > /etc/locale.conf
### add encrypt before "filesystem" in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf hooks
# mkinitcpio -p linux
# passwd
# pacman -S syslinux
# cp -r /usr/lib/syslinux/bios/*.c32 /boot/syslinux
# extlinux -i /boot
### the above echoes "/boot is device /dev/sda3"
Then I edited /boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg:
LABEL arch
MENU LABEL Arch Linux
LINUX ../vmlinuz-linux
APPEND root=/dev/mapper/root cryptdevice=/dev/sda4:root crypto=sha512:aes-xts-plain64:512:: rw
INITRD ../initramfs-linux.img
EDIT: I deleted the contents of /boot, reinstalled syslinux, linux, and mkinitcpio, and repeated the above with `extlinux -i /boot/syslinux`, noting that syslinux.cfg points to ../vmlinuz-linux. Same result.

EasyBCD and boot attempt
At this point, exited the arch-chroot, unmounted/closed my partitions, and rebooted into Win7. Using EasyBCD, I added a entry for a syslinux bootloader, pointing it to "Partition 3 (Linux - 128MiB)."
I reboot, get the EasyBCD menu, but then the lone words "Boot error" on a black screen. Any key press takes me to some sort of BIOS boot thingy which tells me to "Please install an operating system!" I think this is something built into the laptop BIOS, not anything from the syslinux side. Selecting "Boot existing OS" from the Arch install USB doesn't give me any options at all.
From what I can tell, I'm using the same procedure that I ended up with on this former troubleshooting exercise.
Thoughts
I'm really struggling to understand what I'm doing wrong. I originally had a couple variations on logical/extended partitions since I need my eventual setup to hold a shared TrueCrypt partition so I can access my work files from both Win7 and arch. I tried /boot as primary and Arch/TC as logicals, as well as a primary TC partition with boot/root as a logical drive combination. I've simplified to just primary partitions (as shown above) to troubleshoot.
It's quite difficult to troubleshoot as I don't know if this is an installation issue or an EasyBCD one. Is there a way to manually try and boot my HD arch install from the install USB? I wanted to try that using the "Boot existing OS" option, but am wondering if it fails since only /dev/sda1 features a bootable flag and it's encrypted so only the HP BIOS can handle it? I thought about making /dev/sda3 bootable, but from my reading I can only have one bootable flag on a Windows system.
On that note, I checked my BIOS settings and the MBR is set to "Legacy mode" vs. the othe UEFI alternatives, so I don't think that's an issue. I also used blkid to confirm that it's using an MBR (output was "dos").
I will try UUIDs in /etc/fstab and syslinux next, as there are some other posts (example) talking about this as a potential issue (and, indeed, I sometimes get my HD as /dev/sdb* when booting from the arch USB drive. I can also try grub2 in case it's a syslinux issue.
Thanks for any ideas/suggestions. Does anything look awry in my description/setup above? I can chroot and do stuff just fine... so I think the install appears to be sound; it's just booting it!
Last edited by jwhendy (2015-06-06 04:38:09)A bit of progress, though this couldn't be much more awful in my opinion. Installed Arch to an sdcard to use as a bootloader, only to find that I can't boot from an sdcard, even though the HP docs say there's an sdcard boot option in the BIOS (which there's not). If the BIOS were in UEFI mode, there is an sdcard option listed in the boot order, but not in legacy mode. Sigh.
I don't have another sdcard laying around that's big enough to install Arch on, as I'm using my sole 8g drive for the installation media (and no optical drive). Sigh.
I did, however, through trial and error get my sdd arch install to boot using the installation drive's "boot existing OS" option! Took me a while to figure it out. In my opinion the drive/partition numbering is quite odd. Using the Hardware Information tool, the usb stick shows up as the first drive (so I'd assume hd0), but it can't be as "hd0 3" got me into the sdd installation. I'd have assumed hd0 0 was /dev/sda1, but that must be incorrect, as hd0 3 is /dev/sda3.
So, where I'm at now:
- going to re-partition how I originally intended (with truecrypt shared storage as a primary partition and boot/root as logical partitions)
- reinstall arch
- try to boot using the above procedure from the installation media
If that goes well, I'll try to find some teensy tiny usb stick to use as a bootloader device unless someone has any insights on why I can't boot by chainloading from Windows. I think at this point I've narrowed it down to a BIOS or drive numbering or EasyBCD issue, so maybe this post isn't a good fit for the Arch forums after all. Sorry for all the noise/updates... just wanted to provide the updated information as I uncovered it.
Thanks if you have any ideas or things I could try. -
2012 iMac 27" fails to boot AND wake from sleep
Hi all,
My 2012 iMac has recently started giving my trouble when booting and waking from sleep.
When booting - A normal power up results in the apple logo screen being stuck, then I have to hold down the power button for a few seconds until power off, then i power it back up and the computer boots up normally. NOTE: only at the second time does the computer succeed in getting past the apple logo screen to the sign in screen.
Waking from Sleep - When ever the mac goes to sleep he doesn’t seem to be able to wake up. Usually stuck on a black screen with just the spinning wheel shown. At times i waited more then an hour to see if he can get passed the black screen but in vain.
Other then that the mac works fine.
Both issues started roughly two weeks ago and roughly at the same time.
My mac is mostly used for work, I'm familiar with computers so I am trying to be extra careful with installing weird applications but you could never know..
SPEC:
Late 2012 iMac 27'' - 3.4 Ghz i7.
16GB RAM.
1TB Fusion drive.
2GB NVIDIA GTX 680MX
Wired keyboard and a Magic mouse.
Mountain Lion 10.8.5 (Updated and backed up on a regular basis)
Things I've tried:
Boot to Recovery and Repair Disk/Permissions.
Safe Boot.
SMC reset.
PRAM reset.
* The first two produced a single case of a normal start up, but after a shut down the problem remains.
Any ideas/thoughts/help would be much appriciated,
Thanks in advance,

I installed the system update to 10.7.3. After re-booting, my mail file was missing from the dock. Looked in applications and the mail application is missing. Any thoughts?
