From and subject text is missing in listview (imap)

Hi all,
I have just setup mail 3.0 and all messages+folders are downloaded correct. But messages are missing the From and Subject text in the list view, the place where text normally is written is just blank so I can not see whom the email is from and what it's about.
Once I click on a message it opens up perfectly in the message view and all details are available (from, to, date, etc...). Got damm wired
I'm running with IMAP through a danish host called Azero and I think they are running with Merak Mail Server (http://www.icewarp.com/Products/MerakEmail_ServerSoftware/)
I hope somebody can help me.
Cheers,
Jesper

so this is strange... i tried the exact same process on 3 machines with the same mail account set up. on the first machine, i selected the mailbox, went to Mailbox>Rebuild. Mailbox rebuilt without any issues, all old mail that was missing From/Subject fields were fixed and all new mail comes through without any issues.
I tried the same thing on two other machines with Merak IMAP accounts on them and on one machine, ALL previous mail that had been correctly displaying From/Subject fields had those fields deleted but date received displayed just fine. I could also click on the blank line and the message would display correctly in the Mail window's preview pane below the list view.
On the third and final machine, rebuilding the mailbox wiped the mailbox COMPLETELY. Folders displayed but they were empty.
I'm submitting a support ticket to Merak as soon as I'm done typing this

• Mail.app From and Subject are blank in list

From time to time I get an email and once it is deleted, the "From" and "Subject" do not display in the list of emails. Its just blank. The "Date Received" shows up as well as if there were any attachments I get the paperclip icon, but no "From" or "Subject". If I open the email I can see the "From" and "Subject" in the email header just fine so I know the data is there, just doesnt show up in the list of emails. If I move the email back to my inbox and the delete it again it usually fixes the problem. Not a big deal but wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue and has a fix.
I am running Mail.app 3.2, and my emailemail is being routed through google apps setup as imap account.
This also happens on my wife's computer, who has an identical email setup as mine, just a different account, which leads me to believe its a mail.app ->imap ->gmail issue.
Dont get me started on the dreaded "All Mail" folder.

I have tried suffering through changing the message encoding back and forth to get messages to appear, but it has reached a level of absurdity that I just can stand anymore.
I view my mail with IMAP from three places; Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, and iPhone. If I read a message on any one of the platforms, the remaining Mac (not iPhone) do not display the header information in the message list pane. The iPhone always shows everything fine. And if I download the message first on one of the Macs, it looks fine there, but when that message is downloaded on the other Mac (doesn't matter which was first or second, the pro or macbook pro) the from, to, sent, subject are all invisible on the second machine.
I wrote an automator "watch me" recording to toggle message encoding, but with over 2000 affected email messages, it was taking hours to run, and makes that Mac useless until it is done.
I am less than happy with this situation. Why no bulk message encoding change capability? If you select more than one message the encoding options grey-out.
I've tried rebuilding mailboxes. Using the "defaults write ..." on both Macs. Nothing is working.
Surely someone else is seeing this too?

• Read and write from and to text file

Hi All,
I am trying to read some portion of a text file and make measurement and calculation with those numbers and write back to the same text file and also to a excel file. I need to create a 2 D array of 20 by 20 from the text file values and write to front panel table and to text file. but I am having problem with it, obviously I am new to this. Please help me. thanks much
~ Johnny

Hi Lynn,
the requirement is to move C1 and C2 to each position that is given in the text file in steps and percentage value.
for example C1 has to go to first step (5%) and C2 has to go thru all steps, 5% to 95% , in 5 percent increment.
each 100 steps translates to 1 percent increment in the capacitor value.
at the end, I need to enter the measured data (values of C1 for each step, vesus all values of C2 for all steps) and enter them at the bottom of the text file's table where it starts at : "IMPEDANCE_REAL in Ohmone line per C1 position, containing all values for the different C2 positions" and do the same for where it says "IMPEDANCE_IMAGINARY in Ohmone line per C1 position, containing all values for the different C2 positions"
the reason I read the file twice, is that if it read it once, I couldn't connect it to spreadsheet string to array vi.
as you can see, I also like to use the write to measurement file and build table express vi's to display the table on the front panel and save the data to ni data file format so later I convert it to excel too.
any thoughts?
thanks for your help

• From and subject field are blank using imap account in mail.app

Recently I changed my account from pop3 to imap.
If I retrieve mail with mail.app first normally I get proper headers displayed in the message list window.
If I READ the email on my iPhone 4 let alone respond to it, etc. and then go back to my mail.app all emails I chose to read, reply to, etc. have blank from, to, and subject lines in the message list window. They appear ok in the message window but not the message list window.
Some people have same issues, but I haven't found any respons to get this fixed!!
I hope someone can help me solving this problem.
Best wishes.
Simon

In the Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced what have you selected with regard to Keep copies of messages and their attachments for Offline Viewing?
Also, does your provider's IMAP server support use of the IDLE Command? If getting push email on the iPhone, considered deselecting this if currently selected -- it can cause problems with servers not fully supporting it.
I think it may be useful to purge the Envelope Index file from the Mail folder. Force a reindexing by deleting the Envelope Index. With IMAP or Exchange account, forcing reindexing requires removing the account folder. See:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/4.0/en/14019.html
Ask any questions needed to get comfortable with doing this.

• HT2500 Apple Email "From," and "Subject" lines do not match body of email

After on and off problems with the imap server in iCloud the past couple weeks that prevented me from getting my .mac mail anywhere other than on the iCloud website, my inbox has morphed into a jumble of miss-matched Email Subject, From/Sent by, and Email Body. In other words I will double click on an email that appears to be from my niece, but when it opens it is actually an email from Amazon - or someone else! I am done with MAIL, but need HELP restoring my inboxes. I have "Rebuilt" all inboxes but it didn’t repair the problem. I have since switched to Outlook client for Mac and the problem does NOT occur with Outlook.
Ideas?

I was able to repair this by deleting a specific file - more to come. I did not have to do a complete restore.
I will check for my notes and let you know how I fixed the problem.
I think there is a good chance that Outlook mail for Mac may have been part of the problem. It requred a rebuild (pulling data from Mail?)

• From: and Subject: items are coluding and losing readibility

The line containing From: has misteriously stepped down to the Subject: and legibility for both items is lost. Letters are not distorted or replaced. Simply one is behind the another one
Of course I tried (in vain) disable helveticas fractions and many other tricks but my reasoning is not good enough for these misteries of modern times.
Thanks.

I am having the same problem in apple email. The From line has dropped down on top of the subject line, and the To line is on top of the Cc line. I have deleted helvetica fractions, and several other fonts, font caches, etc. But can't get this back to normal. Thanks for any help, Susan

I have had an STL subtitle file prepared by external company.
It works beautifully and imports into DVDSP fine. The problem i have is that some German characters (ö and ü) are not displaying and instead i get other characters.

Can any one help? Please

Turns out two different people were doing the reviews and they didn't agree on wording of the theft warning. Took six extra months to do. Oh, and make sure you have a printout when you start to work. Often you won't know when the accents are missing.

• From Field and Subject Overlap In Mail.app

I am getting an overlap of the From and Subject fields. This first appeared after my upgrade to Lion. At first I thought it was a font issue, since that's what the forums have indicated. I found no duplicate fonts and Helvetica (i assume this is Helvetica, but not too savvy with fonts) appeared to be in the Font Book in all of its iterations. I'm now curious because I have a new iMac with a factory installation of Lion and have the exact same issue. Occasionally what was overlapped displays correctly, but I have not found a correlation with any other actions that would have made it do so. This appears in the new Lion veiw and in Classic View. It also overlaps when double clicking to open the message in a new window.
I was unable to find any relevant posts dated after 2008. I would appreciate any ideas, however far-fetched.
OS 10.7.1
Build 11B26
Mail 5.0 (1244.2/1244.3)

If you name email folders like that in many programs, it will create two folders (or more)
It assumes it's a path, just like an operating system does when typing a path.
If you don't want that, you can name it:
Misc-Apple or the like.
Misc/Apple creates two folders, in succession.

• Email subject and sender data is missing for HTML contents

Dear all,
Good day. I tried to send an email with HTML codes to draw a table. It works, however, the email sender and subject are missing. And the email body looks like the following:

Table header and contents.
Anyone has idea on what it happens and what is the solution? Your help and advise are greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance.

• Iphone 4s-when wifi is off and I am away from my home connection can I receive and send texts and text messages? I want to keep my wifi off to limit data (email etc) to when I want to check it. Cellular is roaming"voice only" it says. Can I get texts?

When my wifi is off and I'm away from my home connection - it shows wifi off (unless I turn it on to check my email etc.) - and in the settings cellular it shows "voice only". Will I be able to receive and send texts in those settings? Or check voicemail. I had wanted to keep my email from coming in all the time and only want to check it periodically - so I turn ON my wifi when I want to check my email. But when my wifi was off away from home- I hadn't seemed to be getting my texts. So- do I need to keep wifi roaming connected when away from home to receive and send my texts in real time. (which is what I want) or am I still able to send and receive texts with my wifi off when I'm away from home. (When I'm home I am connected to my home data plan automatically through wifi and I get texts when I'm home - but I'm thinking I'm not getting texts in real time - is it because my wifi is off when I'm away from home? My cellular shows voice only when my wifi is off away from home. Am I doing it right to receive and send texts away from home? Or do I need to open up the wifi in order to receive and send text messages. I know that I would need to turn on wifi roaming - which will use data - for email checking or sending - as well as to use browsing apps and now I'm guessing to receive voice messages I may have missed? So do I need wifi on to receive texts too? Thank you - GregorySC

Hello GregorySC,
In order to send and receive SMS or MMS messages, you will need to have an active cellular data or Wi-Fi connection.
You will need these to send and receive iMessages:
An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
iOS 5.0 or later
A cellular data connection or a Wi-Fi connection
A phone number or Apple ID registered with iMessage in Settings > Messages

• From:, To: and Subject: end up in email body - html email using sendmail

To the experts and the experienced:
I am trying to send email in html format from a Korn shell script on Solaris 10. The
email does get delivered and is displayed html-formatted, except that the From:, To: and
Subject: lines are displayed in the email body, rather than in the email header. I
would appreciate it very much if experts and the experienced could shed some light.
I use this command line to send the email:
sendmail -t [email protected] < testmail
The content of the testmail file is as follows:
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="frontier"
--frontier
Content-Type: text/plain
From: [email protected]
To: [email protected]
Subject: test html email
This is a plain-text email.
Newman
--frontier
Content-Type: text/html
From: [email protected]<br/>
To: [email protected]<br/>
Subject: test html email<br/>
<h3 align="center">This is a html email</h3>
<p>This is the paragraph.</p>
<p>Newman</p>
frontier\
The email received in Microsoft Outlook (html-formatted), looks like this:
From: [email protected]
To:
Subject:
From: [email protected]
To: [email protected]
Subject: test html email

This is a html email

This is the paragraph.

Newman
Two things in the email need fixing:
1. All the From:, To: and Subject: lines are treated as part of the email body and are
displayed in the email body, rather than in the header as I wanted them to.
2. The From: line in the email header is the actual sender, not the Bursar.Office as I
put in the testmail file. This can be easily done when using SMTP (telnet to port 25)
or mailx.
How do I tell sendmail/the email client to display in the intended places the From:,
To: and Subject: information that I specified in the testmail file?
Many thanks!
Newman

I searched in google and found a solution:
mailx -r [email protected] -s "test html email
content-type: text/html" john.doe < testmail
The testmail file is a pure html file with one

element. The content embedded in this element is the body of the email, with all the usual tags you would like to use:
, , <h3>, <p>, <ul>, etc.
The trick is piggy-backing a content-type with the subject. It seems to me this it to get the content-type into the email header rather than into the body. And that was exactly the problem I had.
The command lines was executed on Solaris 10. It works.
Hope this could be useful to someone who would encounter the same problem.

• From and/or subject don't match msg body

Hello all. Two weeks ago I posted this problem under a different head, but got no replies, so let me try again as it is messing up maybe 5% of my email.
Every morning I collect email--from 40 to 70 messages, many forwarded from Gmail--and message filtering usually works efficiently to transfer from Inbox to folders. But somewhere along the line, 1 to 3 emails get muddled together: the from and/or subject don't match the text, and sometimes the displayed text includes the Msg Source, including text, from some other, unrelated email.
I've been using FF and TB for more than 10 years now, and believe this kind of email muddling dates only to the last couple months. I use the latest Thunderbird under Windows 7 on a Dell desktop. I have 4 hopefully innocent addons. Of course I can send screenshots and forward the message source for analysis.
Hoping this time to attract attention to the problem! Thanks!

This is an indication of file corruption. Lack of maintenance on your email folders is the usual cause of this.
You can try to repair the file tables and see if that helps. Be prepared to lose messages if the corruption is too bad.
Right click the problem folder. Select Properties and then Repair Folder.
Then read this article about best practices to help prevent this in the future.
