I am not a developer. I am an aspiring author
researching the lives of Java developers for a
fiction project. One of the characters I am
developing IS a Java developer - NOT a MS/.Net
developer. I would greatly appreciate info about
being a Java (and/or related technology) developer. What's there to say? It sucks.
The content can be very technical but should have
some "leisure time" posts. I work around these
technologies from the marcom perspective, so I
understand a certain level of what is being
discussed. I am really inspired by the wit, spirit,
passion (and sometimes 'disgruntledness') inherent to
the world of Java developers.Eh?

    Hey Guys,
This is Naimi from Charlotte, NC. I had some website design and web development projects which I wanted to outsourcing due to obvious reasons of low cost and effective results. I was looking for a reliable outsourcing company who have proven track record and can deliver the results on time. I came across this Offshore Software Outsourcing Company called Tatvasoft through Google. I just sent them an enquiry and within two days they were back with reply on how to go about it. Their plan seemed promising and they were very flexible. I thought of giving them a shot, and it worked out. I started out with the small project and ended up giving all my projects to them.

  • Doubt about which driver to use for ATI Technologies Inc SB600 IDE

Currently this is what I get with lspci -v
00:14.1 IDE interface: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 IDE (prog-if 8a [Master SecP PriP])
    Subsystem: Device 1631:c109
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16
    I/O ports at 01f0 [size=8]
    I/O ports at 03f4 [size=1]
    I/O ports at 0170 [size=8]
    I/O ports at 0374 [size=1]
    I/O ports at ff00 [size=16]
    Kernel driver in use: pata_atiixp
    Kernel modules: pata_atiixp, atiixp
it seems there are two different modules I can use, is the one being used an older one and I should blacklist it or should I follow the rule if it isn't broken, don't fix it?

As mentioned in that page, I added the 'radeon' repository and installed the following packages:
    - kernel26-firmware-git
    - radeon_ucode
    - dri2proto-git
    - glproto-git
    - libdrm-git
    - mesa-full
    - xf86-video-ati-git
The process did not turn out to be smooth. Package addition could not be done even after supplying '--force' to pacman. For example:
    $ sudo pacman -S -f dri2proto-git
    resolving dependencies...
    looking for inter-conflicts...
    :: dri2proto-git and dri2proto are in conflict. Remove dri2proto? [y/N] n
    error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
Then, I resorted to libaral use of '--cascade' and the box failed to reboot. Had to boot from CD, mount partitions, chroot to the installed system and reinstall the kernel (infact, all packages using a list that I had saved before starting).

  • Migrating from  Dedicated Server to Shared server

    Hi,
Please let me know how to configure from Dedicated server to Shared server in oracle 10g.
    Any advises would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    - sridhar

It is not that hard, you only need to configure four parameters and check the listener to verify this has already been configured and registered. On the other hand, you should configure your tnsnames.ora file so you have the alternative to connect by means of a shared or a dedicated oracle server, otherwise the default, once the dispatchers and the shared server processes are configured will be shared server.
The four parameters to configure at the initialization parameter file are:
    dispatchers
    max_dispatchers
    shared_servers
    max_shared_servers
and you should create an entry at the tnsnames.ora file that declares a (server=dedicated) that will be used to connect by means of a dedicated server.
Further details on Howto configure the shared server can be found here --> Configuring Oracle Database for Shared Server.
One side note I'd like to add, shared server is suitable for scaleability in OLTP environments, if your kind of job is either batch or DDS you should open a connection by means of a dedicated server, otherwise you'll create a severe bottleneck.

Can you check if Adobelifecycle designer's dll has been installed

Can you try to call LiveCycle Designer standalone?
    C:\program files\Adobe\Designer X.X\FormDesigner.exe
Just double click this exe file.
When it is started, it should be registered again (if it is not yet
