From dvix, xvid, dvd and avi to ipod

I read a lot of topics but i don't understand so much!!!
I would to buy a video ipod because i fall in love because of its beauty, its great sound quality and its simplicity... but i have a problem: i want to use ipod like an external hard disk where i put all my videos and my films to watch them on my tv...
Is there a program to convert all file formats that i've written above in ipod compatible format (mpeg-4 and h.264 320x240)? And when i had converted all this file and i've transferred them into my ipod, can i watch them on my tv or the image is too small? Is there a way to storage videos or films on the ipod for watch them on a tv? Forget my bad english!!!!!

Hey, I would love to help you, but as this would go around the copyright protection when burning the DVD to your hard-drive I can't. According to the terms of usage, "Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.", we aren't allowed to discuss this here.

What model is the MBP? Did it come with OS 10.6 or a later OS? Is the install DVD one that came with it or something else?
You can't run an OS older than Mac on it.
But if came with 10.6 installed & you have the system discs, you should be able to erase the drive & reinstall the original OS.

  • Cant boot from snow leopard dvd and install crashes computer

Folks, hi, newbie to this forum but at wits end.
I have a MacBook Pro 17inch mid 2010 model. I added the OMG disk doubler and ditched the internal dvd, so I now have 2 X 500GB hard drives, one of which has the OSX. This disk in trouble and Disk Utility says that it needs repairing, but i need to repair after booting from an different disk.
So, I added a usb dvd drive and put in snow leopard. It would not boot via holding down 'c' and the option key only saw the current drive. No problems I thought, I will install onto the second hard drive and boot from that. The process got a fair way though (20 mins) and the computer crashed. I checked that it is GUID, tried again, and ditto. So, I made a new partition that was nice and clean -- and ditto. Stuck about now, I tried to format a usb hard drive -- ditto. Hmm, didnt want to, but out came the second drive and in went the old dvd drive -- same issue -- could not boot using c button and the option key did not recognise the snow leopard install. Out came the drive and I went to the apple store -- they told me that the Snow Leopard I had brought was an upgrade and that I needed a Box Set. $169 later and - you guessed it -- the dvd is the same, no start on c, not recognised on option, and the computer crashes if I try and install to the second hard drive or an external drive.
    Help anyone??

when i go to system prefs- startup, the dvd does not show up in the list of startup drives. The apple salesman said that the OSX install disk I purchased was not a start up disk / full install but rather an upgrade only disk. That is why he said to use the box set as a 'full install' - but both appear to not start up or be able to do a clean install. I just end up with a set of files call Mac OSX install files.

  • Recording from TV to DVD and then into iMovie

I would like to record many of the upcoming World Cup Soccer games to a digital format that I can use for easy importing into iMovie for instructional video.
I won't be able to edit clips as fast as the games are played so I thought recording to DVD's would be convenient when I went back to review the material, or would a PVR from shaw/tivo be more suitable...are these viable options, and does anyone have recommended hardware for this purpose?

  • Switching from mac to PC and using iTunes + iPod

I recently switched from PC to a Mac Mini. It's great, but I don't know how to move my music library from PC to Mac.
After that, what is the handling to do for using my iPod (previously used with PC) with my Mac now.
    Thank you

Yeah, that's the first time I've heard that one (switching from Mac to PC). I know this doesn't pertain to your question, but why are you switching? I'm running Vista and my next comp will definitely be a Mac. In addition to AV, Antisypware, and a firewall, be sure to get a Registry cleaner and defragmenting program (unless you want to use the crappy one that comes with Windows). I'm looking forward to not having to spend so much time keeping Windows working right and money securing it.

  • Need help backing up songs from iTunes on DVD and external hard drive

    Hi,
I am hoping someone can help me with this. I want to make a back up of all the songs I have in iTunes. I want to save them to a DVD as well as my external hard drive. Can you please give me detailed info on how to do both of these things?
    Thank you in advance!

    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

In Itunes set burning preferences to DATA CD/DVD
Create a playlist called "Backup", put all your track into it, make sure that all checkboxes are selected.
    Burn that playlist
Assuming that you are using standard folders for storing your music:
Through finder navigate to ./Users/YourUserName/Music - now drag the folder "iTunes" onto your ext. drive.

  • Reduced quality of .vob and avi files

    Hi Guys
    I need some help please.
I am working on a trail version of adobe elements 10 on a new macbook pro lion.
    No problem installing application.
When I import video either in vob from dvd or avi format, the quality of the video is reduced tremendously, there are no white black lines, no jumping, just low quality.
On the bottom right hand side, the application tells me that it is doing something called conforming.
When I play the same video in vlc on the mac, or on my pc, the video runs fine with no problems and the picture is crystal clear.
I tried the things suggested in support:
    1. Rendering
    2. Checked the fps are the same as the original video ie 25 fps
    3. Tried using application to convert vob file to mp4 of all different levels of quality using external program (wondershare video converter ultimate for mac)
Elements looks like a great program, the closest to the magix I used to run on my pc, but the problem at the moment is that the quality is reduced.
    Is there a codec problem?
The vob and avi files are not recognized by quicktime.
    Please let me know asap
    Thanks
    Simon

Much has to do with which project settings you've selected in Premiere Elements when you set up your project. (For DVD video, you should be using the Hard Disk Camcorder/standard definition settings for your project.) You also should not mix DVD and AVI footage in a project. They interlace very differently and this can cause problems in your output.
Much also depends on where your AVIs are coming from. Unless your AVIs are from a miniDV camcorder, captured over a FireWire connection, you are likely working with a codec that is not fully compatible with the program. Where did these AVIs come from?
Conforming is an important part of the process of the program rendering non-workflow formats (such as DVD VOB files) into editable workflow formats. Allow the program the fully conform your DVD video and use the proper project presets and you should get results that are virtually identical to the original footage.
Parts 1 and 2 of my free 8 part Basic Training tutorials at Premiere Elements support site Muvipix.com will help  you understand how and why project set-up and proper footage formats are so important.

  • How to install Leopard from an external DVD reader?

    Hi,
I've bought Leopard today. unfortunately, it's not yet installed on my PowerBook. As my SuperDrive is dead, I use now an external DVD (Lacie Portable DVD-RW), but it doesn't work. I can read the Leopard install DVD, but when it reboot, it reboot on my current installation.
I've tried the following during the boot sequence:
    - alt pressed, but I can only see my main HDD
    - c pressed, but I boot on my current installation
Can you tell me if it is possible to install Leopard from an external DVD, and how can I do that ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Still photographs to dvd and tv playback ?

I have yet to burn a dvd that I can use or like... I've made many "test" dvd's and all of them seem to have flicker in some of the still images that have white areas and the end product seems to be slightly soft (NOT VERY SHARP IMAGES )...
I have used iphoto, imovie and idvd to make these dvd's. When I view the end project on my Mac G5 from my hard drive, in iphoto it works and looks great !
When I try and finish the job it goes down hill from there. Is it the compression that is making the quility go south ?
I see shows on tv that look GREAT as still images. No flicker and sharp still images...What do I need to do to get great quility from a burned dvd and still images ?

Put the aerial feed in to the YouView box 'antenna in' and connect a cable from the YouView 'aerial out' to the 'aerial in' on your TV. Connect YouView box HDMI out to HDMI socket on your TV if you have one. If not connect the YouView to SCART to your TV SCART. Connect your DVD player to the other SCART socket.
Use the AV setting on your TV to switch to the YouView box and:
Go in to you YouView menu as follows:
YouView/Settings/Device Management and make sure 'RF Loop Through' is set to ON.
This will allow you to access your own TV's tuner and YouView also.
Use the 'AV' setting on your TV to switch between TV's own tuner, YouView and your DVD player.
HDMI is preferable but if you don't have any HDMI sockets - and most TVs do these days - then SCART will have to do.
I hope you get it working.

  • CS4: DVD encoding problem(s) Mpeg2 and avi

    Hi,
I have been trying to burn my video files to DVD. After a month of failures and 50+ wasted DVDs thrown in the garbage -- plus countless hours trying to learn the basics, reading the FAQs, trouble-shooting, and losing my patience awaiting technical replies from Adobe (which I now suspect will go unanswered) -- I am out of solutions and waving a white flag.
    Problem:
I have two video files. Both were created in Premiere Pro CS4 and exported via the Adobe Media Encoder as MPEG2-DVD high quality files (for NTSC) .
The first Mpeg2 file is 800 MB (41 mins); the other is 988 MB (50 mins).
I have placed the two files into a single timeline, with 21 chapter stops.
The only other file in the entire project is a PSD file for the Menu. It has two buttons, which link respectively to chapter stops 1 and 10.
    My results are failure-upon-failure...
    Primary question:
When I go to "Build" the DVD, it says the Encoded Size is 4.7 GB ~ same size as the DVD. This displays in the "Disc Info".
Similarly, when I open my "Timeline" properties for that single timeline, it says the duration is 1 hour 31 minutes - 4.7 GB.
Why is the disc a full 4.7 GB when the two video files (combined) are under 2 GB?
    Supplementary questions:
My "Flowchart" and "Property" links display the Menu, with the two button links in my Menu PSD connecting to the respective chapter stops.
There are no problems when I click "Check Project," and the project works perfectly in "Preview" mode.
But, when I attempt to test the burned DVD into different DVD players, the Menu doesn't appear and the play defaults to random chapters, then freezes. I can access the menu, but only after the play has started and/or frozen, and I have to do that by clicking the "Menu" button on my DVD remotes. And again, when I hit play on either of the buttons on the main menu, the video files will freeze, which means burning & testing each disc sometimes takes an hour per.
    Does anybody have a solution?
I have read and watched several tutorials, to no avail. I have tried burning the Project using large Mpeg files as well as medium Mpeg files, both encoded with 1-Pass VBR, 2-pass VBR, CBR. I have tried widescreen and normal.
I have also tried using AVI files. The two AVI files are respectively 41 mins @ 1536 kbps 720x480 8.68GB; and 50 mins @ 1536 kbps 720x480 10.6GB.
Together, those two AVI files are 19+ GB, which would require 5 DVDs.
What am I doing wrong? What should I be using to burn DVDs - Mpeg-2 or Avis?
When I export from Premiere Pro/Adobe Media Encoder, whould I be exporting as Mpeg2 files or Mpeg2-DVD?
Is it possible that Encore automatically expand and/or compress files, so that the 19GB avi is compressed to 4.7 GB DVD; and the 1.8 GB Mpeg2 "expands" to 4.7 GB?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this project has caused me numerous delays and ruined deadlines and soured me even more on Adobe's video editing product and their truly-awful customer support.
    Thank you

As far as the use of premiere pro CS4 with Encore Cs4, do not bother to pre transcode your material.  Let Encore do this for you.  Leave your files in the original format which I assume was AVI.  Instead import your Premiere Pro sequence directly from the project (or export it from Premiere Pro it to encore).   As you quessed Encore will try and expand/compress your files for the DVD you are making.
Encore by default trys to transcode for the best quality that will fit onto the media you specify which is why it is setting the output to 4.7 rather than the file size of the video.
You were not specific enough about the nature of the failed copies.  One thing to do is to always try testing your project from your first menu to see that it behaves correctly.  If you don't want your DVD to start playing automatically make sure you set it to open the Top Menu.  Then try a test either to your hard drive (if you can), or to a RW DVD.

  • Is there any way to import my OWN DVD movies into iTunes and my video iPod?

I just purchased the new 30 GB video iPod last week, and although I have already purchased a few movies from the iTunes store, I wanted to know if there was a way to import a DVD movie from my own DVD library like we can with our own music CDs?
    Thanks,

"That's too bad, because these are movies (DVDs) that I own and have purchased legally myself. How is that different from importing your own purchased CDs into iTunes? Seems like a double standard to me."
About "legally owning" the DVDs - Yes, I understand, and I'm figuring that most folks who want to put their DVDs onto their iPod are owning the movies legally (or, at least, it appears so).
That's not really the issue here, though.
The problem is, there is an encryption that is written onto regular, copyrighted DVDs (i.e., movies). In order to get that onto your iPod, you will have to use software on your computer that breaks that encryption, and makes the file into some more "normal" format, like say, MP4.
This action can arguably be considered as illegal, in a sense, since you are removing the encryption that's on DVD, which is protecting it from being easily copied, and transferred around. (which would be illegal).
This is a bit different than CDs, since, although they are copyrighted too, the songs are usually not in a protected format.
If you have a song that you've purchased from the iTunes Store, and you want to break into that "protected" file format, that's the same kind of issue as the DVD ripping.
(Notice that the Hosts included that into the ADUA as well, right along with DVD ripping.)
...It's quite an interesting kind of subject, isn't it?
