'From' field display

This is trivial I know but it's mildly irritating.
I have someone's name appearing in the 'From' field in all caps in Mail v3.5. Message headers always show the sender's email address and return path entirely in lower case as I'd expect and their entry in my Address Book is capital initial followed by lower case.
So why is Mail changing the 'From' field display to all caps?
This happens with several contacts.

Thanks.
The affected names are there - but shown in caps initial, followed by l/case letters. I've removed them anyway to see what happens.
Is there a Mail cache file that I can delete?

  • From: field (Display Name) incorrect

Hi, we have a number of N97's and E series phones that we have hooked up to our mail system which uses Zimbra mobile (mimics Activesync).
My problem is that when a user sends a mail, the display name is incorrect (it shows company name instead) though the email address is correct. e.g. companyname ([email protected])
If I create a mail on the device and lookup the message info I can see that before the message has left the device it has the company name as the display name => I am 90% certain this is an MfE issue. Also we don't have this problem with iPhones.I cannot see a field in MfE to set the display name manually.
Any ideas as I can't see any other people with this problem. Also multiple versions of MfE in use.

    Thanks.

  • Apple Mail "From Field" addresses are wrong, and cached

    Here is the problem . . .
When creating a new email in the "Mail" App, the drop down box for the "From:" field displays a lot of address - some of them are wrong, some of them are obsolete, and some I would like to edit (or delete and re-enter the information).
The menu item "Window -> Previous Recepients" does not have any of the offending addresses listed in the cache.
If I create a new mail account using "Mail -> Preferences...", the email address and other details from the new account show up in the "From:" field drop down box when composing a new email. If I delete that new account, and restart the Mail App, the "From:" field drop down box still contains the information from the now defunct account.
If I pick a different account, and edit the information contained therein - say the "Full Name:" field, that new information does not necessarily change - specifically, if a double quote - " - has been accidentally inserted, or the "Full Name:" field used double quotes in the style "My Name" <[email protected]> then the double quotes stay stuck around the Full Name, even after being removed from the account details in Mail Preferences.
My guess . . . a file stored somewhere on the disc is keeping track of this information similar to the Window -> Previous Recepients information. This information I know how to prune (delete undesired records).
How do I do the same thing for the "From:" field?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:

    Hi,
DisplayName is an Active Directory property which represents the display name of a recipient in an appropriate format to display to the end-user. This is a Unicode property which may contain non-ASCII characters so that a user name may contain DBCS characters.
In your case, you need to create a registry entry on Outlook side.
For more information, here is a helpful thread for your reference. (Note: Though it is Exchange 2010, it also replies to Exchange 2013 about this issue.)

  • Display Name in From field

We just upgraded from Messenger server 5.x to 6.2.
On 5.x email messages that were sent by the Messenger Server were received and viewed with the displayName in the From field of the message.
This is no longer the case with 6.2
We would like to restore this functionality. I'm hoping there is a setting that we set somewhere.
    Examples:
From field from a 5.x message would appear as : Bob Walker<[email protected]>
From field from a 6.2 message appears as: [email protected]
    Thanks, Bob.

  • Hide the field display from it0002

i wanted to hide a field   display from  IT0002 screen, queries, table view or other  like transaction pa20 or pa30 ,should be prohibited when not authorized.

    Hi
If you want to hide fields based on authorization, you need to first create a custom authorization object and then program the authority check using function module in the PBO module of Z Include. If the authorization for the user fails, hide the field by looping through the screen structure.
    ...Code to check authorization...
    CHECK SY-SUBRC NE 0
    LOOP AT SCREEN
    IF SCREEN-NAME = 'your_field_name'.
        SCREEN-VISIBLE = 0.
        MODIFY SCREEN.
    ENDIF.
    ENDLOOP.
Akso, do not forget to assign the auth. object to the authorized users(This is BASIS activity).

  • Mac Mail displaying incorrect name to the "To" and "from" field of all of my Hotmail emails

When Hotmail is viewed via Mac Mail, the To: field displays the recipient’s name & Hotmail address. There is a serious problem with my incoming Hotmail … instead of displaying my name and Hotmail email address it displays my friend’s name (initials are RB) alongside my Hotmail email address ... for every Hotmail email that is sent to me no matter who emails me.  My contact/address book entries for my name and my friend are correct in Mac Address Book and Hotmail Contacts. Very strange.
Mac Mail seems to be adding recipient name to the To:  field of all of my Hotmail emails & putting in the wrong name next to my email address!  I say this because the officialwww.hotmail.com site only displays a recipient email address in the To:  field (no name appears).  This error is only happening in Mac Mail with my Hotmail emails (not happening with my Gmail and Yahoo emails).
How/why is a wrong name/my friend's name displayed next to my email address in every Hotmail message I view in Mac Mail?
This error is only occurring in incoming Hotmail messages addressed to me.  Emails that I send using my Hotmail show my name & email address correctly in the From field.
    Thank you

Mail has Smart Addresses that will display the name and email address under Preferences > Viewing, but your issue sounds like a different issue.
Did you setup an outlook.com alias in Outlook.com when it made the transition? If not, add an alias and see if that helps. You can also test sending from the outlook.com alias to see if the results are as expected.
For example if your Hotmail email is [email protected] then setup an alias [email protected]
If that fails, test in a new User.
Create a new User in System Preferences.
    Log into your new User.
You can skip the Apple ID setup unless you are testing iCloud.
Select Don't Sign in > Continue > Skip
Open Mail and enter your Hotmail account.
    Does the problem go away?

  • Issue with length of delivery field displayed in LM06 on RF device

    Hello everyone,
I have a challenging issue which I have posted on another forum as well, and was hoping that somebody on SDN may be familiar with this.  This issue is being reported by one of our warehouses.  SAP RF transaction LM06 is used extensively in this warehouse, and we use a 10 digit delivery number. The delivery field itself in SAP is 20 characters, and we have always displayed 10 on RF. The warehouse is telling me that about a week ago, the number of characters displayed on the RF device for the delivery field in LM06 changed from 10 to 9, and that a leading zero was being inserted when the barcoded delivery number was scanned. There have been no changes to the barcode on the picklist, and I am told there have been no changes to the printer that prints the pick list. A change was deployed a week ago that contained some unrelated configuration and a small code change in a user exit for transfer order creation. Neither of these is in any way related to LM06. Our basis team tells me that there have been no changes to the SAP console server, but I have no way to verify that myself as I am a WM functional consultant. Can anybody tell me if they have seen a problem like this before, or if the field display for a transaction like this is configurable in the SAP console server? The RF hardware being used is the Symbol PDT-8146. Unfortunately, I am 10,000 miles from the warehouse, which puts me at a bit of a disadvantage in trying to diagnose this.

Thank you both for the good feedback.  I have also gotten some useful feedback from my posting on ittoolbox, and have forwarded all of the responses to a colleague who is located at the site where the warehouse is located.  I will provide feedback once my colleague has had a chance to investigate further based upon the suggestions that I have received.

  • Regarding Selection-Screen Field Display

    Hi All,
I have issues with Selection-Screen field display.
The Actual issue is i had declared a selection screen field as: <b>s_exgen FOR embk-exgen</b>.
<b>EMBK-EXGEN</b> is actually <b>20</b> Char length field.
But in output display it is being shown as <b>18</b> Char field though i can type in all <b>20</b> characters.
But <b>display</b> restricted to <b>18</b> Characters only.
Can anybody give me the solution for the same!
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Prasad.

    Hi,
You can decrease the visible length of the field but you can not increase more than database field length. check SAP help on this :
    select-options: s_exgen FOR embk-exgen VISIBLE LENGTH 5.
    ... VISIBLE LENGTH vlen
    Effect
This addition allows you to shorten the visible length of the corresponding screen field on the selection screen to vlen.
    Variant 2
    SELECT-OPTIONS sel FOR (f).
    Additions as in variant 1.
    Effect
In this variant, (f) must be a field containing the name of the actual reference field at runtime. The system creates the LOW and HIGH fields as character fields with length 45. However, their appearance on the selection <b>screen is inherited from the reference field whose name is contained in field f at runtime.</b>

  • Apple Mail "From:" Field Customization

I have several IMAP accounts in Apple Mail. One of them is a Gmail account that I use as a conduit account for work, so when I reply to messages or compose new mail, I would like it to display a specific address in the "From:" field, instead of selecting it every time (I added my work account to Mail as well, though I forward messages to my Gmail account). So, for example, my Gmail account is "[email protected]" and my work email is "[email protected]".
When I compose messages from the Gmail account I would like the "From:" field to display "[email protected]" instead of "[email protected]". I am able to set up Gmail web interface to do this, but have not been able to set up Apple Mail to do the same (aside from instructing it to send messages using my work server, instead of the Gmail server).
In Lion, Mail was able to specify that address if I was replying to a messages sent to "[email protected]" but would show "[email protected]" for every new message. In ML, even replying to a message sent to "[email protected]" shows "[email protected]" in the "From:" field.
Does anyone know how to instruct Mail to choose only "[email protected]" when replying or composing new messages?
    Thanks for your help!

What you are describing is what is known as "articulation work". To quote Suchman, "'Articulation work' names the continuous efforts required in order to bring together discontinuous elements - of organizations, of professional practices, of technologies - into working configurations". That makes it sound better than it is.
Ideally, your non-profit needs a decent webhost like Dreamhost that can transparently integrate with Google Mail and make the whole problem go away.
    asmystiq wrote:
I configured Mail to use the work SMTP server to send messages from the Gmail account.
This is what is known as e-mail spoofing.
In the web Gmail interface, everything works smoothly.
Yes. Google is known for ignoring laws and facilitating any kind of network traffic, legitimate or not, in order to track activity and build value for its advertising business.
In Mail, even if the message was sent to [email protected], Mail replies show up with [email protected] in the "From:" field
Yes. That is the way it is supposed to work.
I also set up a rule for redirecting Sent messages to Gmail and moving the original copies to Trash on the work account. In Lion, all was well and the replies indicated [email protected] in the "From:" field and when I manually applied the rule to the Sent messages, they were sent to the Gmail account.
That's the "articulation work" in action.
I've looked at some of the discussion you linked (thank you for that) and found it enlighening, though I am not done reading all of it yet.
There are a number of different issues going on. Modern e-mail is extraordinarily complicated.
What I do now is not forward work email and keep the daily workflow focused on the Inbox of the [email protected] account, which handles replies appropriately. I then set up a rule to redirect any mail from the work account that is over a day old to the Gmail account. I then organize it on the web interface (which is not optimal, but cuts down my time spent on the web interface from "always" to once daily or so).
You could probably improve that by creating folders in GMail from within Apple Mail. Once you move an old message from the work server to GMail where you have more room, you can have additional rules to move it around within GMail.
The only real, definitive solution is to have more room for e-mail. You should contact your system administrator and suggest switching to GMail or Microsoft's version. Everyone hates dealing with e-mail. That is why these transparent e-mail services are so popular. Once it gets setup, all the magic happens in the name servers and all anyone ever sees is "work.org". Plus, you will likely gain some additional functionality that Microsoft Exchange supports that older systems do not.
In the interim, the best solution is to show the "Reply-to:" field and put your "[email protected]" address in there. Replies will be directed to that address but you will still have to move everything around after receipt. You should be able to configure your "work.org" e-mail system to automatically forward all you rmail to the GMail account. Combined with "Reply-to:", that is about as good as it is going to get.
If you need more clarification, let me know. Though I think that ML is behaving in a way that is not convenient and I don't see a way to create a hack to fix it. It seems like it would be an easy feature to add, but who knows what Apple folks are thinking...
What you have described is e-mail spoofing and Apple doesn't support that. No legitimate internet e-mail provider should support it. If Google does, then that is Google's problem. Most other e-mail servers would not allow that and that is why Apple doesn't support it. And, in general, Apple software is simply not very amenable to "hacks".
I have though about writing an Apple Mail plugin to automatically add a "Reply-to:" to certain e-mail messages. It will be a few months before I get time for that, so don't hold your breath.

  • Can I have Mail format the "From" field based on my Address book entries?

I have most of my contacts in my address book, but Mail still displays the "From" field in the message list pane with the normal email address header.
    Here's an example:
User A emails me a message from this address:
    "User A" <[email protected]>
In my Address Book, I have User A's info as this:
    First Name: Bob
    Last Name: Marley
    Email Address: [email protected]
In Mail, though, the "From" field in the message list view still says ...
    User A
... when I want it to say ...
    Bob Marley
Does that make sense? How can I do this?

All you need is a plug adaptor, if required. Apple sells an adapter kit:

  • Shortcut for changing "from" field in Lion Mail?

I manage a number of email accounts from Mail, and frequently need to send messages from one account, and then another account, and then another account ... In Snow Leopard, I enjoyed creating shortcuts to change the "from" field of an outgoing message.  For example, in the keyboard system preferences pane, I assigned the command "My Name <[email protected]>" the shortcut of "SHIFT+CMD+X".  That way, while writing an email, if I noticed that it was about to send from the wrong account, I'd just hit the keystroke instead of grabbing my mouse.  Mail apparently knew what I was doing, because on the drop-down tab for "From", each of my mail accounts also showed the custom assigned shortcut.
This ability seems blocked in Lion.  Whenever I try to re-create these shortcuts in the preferences / application-shortcuts pane, they won't work!  What's worse, whenever I quite and re-open System Preferences, I find that my shortcuts have been re-assigned an extra open-bracket, such as: ">My Name <[email protected]>".
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?  Is it possible to re-create these shortcuts in Lion Mail?

So Entourage can go to the previous message?  How do you do that?
I can't stand that Mail always goes to the next newest message after deleting.
Every other email program I've ever seen (including Entourage - see below) can do this.  Why can't Apple?  I don't want to touch the mouse most of the time because it really slows down work to move ones hands back and forth.   I did a quick web search and found these shortcuts for all the major programs.  If you know of any other program besides Apple Mail that doesn't have this, let me know.
Until then, if Outlook, Outlook Express, Entourage, Sparrow, Postbox, and Thunderbird have had this, what's Apple's problem adding it?

  • Receiver From Field of Send Step of Integration Process

Could somebody please explain how this works? I cannot get receiver determination to work for a synchronous send of an Integration Process, and I think this is the problem.
    Documentation states the following:
Calling a Receiver Determination Defined in the Integration Directory
           1.      In the Receiver From field of the properties area of the send step, select Send Context.
           2.      In the Send Context field, specify a character string for the send context.
You can choose the character string yourself. You must specify the send context to be able to send messages from the same message interfaces to different receivers in different send steps.
           3.      Query the send context in a corresponding condition in the receiver determination in the Integration Directory.
I just don't get this; if I choose the character string myself, how do I use it in step 3? I cannot see any way to query the send context in a condition. Is the Send Context the name of the receiver?
If somebody can walk me through this step I would be very greatful!
    Kind Regards,
    Tony.

    Tony,
    An example

Do you mean to say that LOV field is having width more than 25 chars but it still shows only 25 chars?
