From FullHD to SD

Hi,
I find myself in the situation where I recorded a video as PAL AVCHD Full HD 1080i 25 (16:9) but have to create a standard DVD-R 4.7GB still PAL Widescreen 16:9 25fps ... I also have to find a quick solution as I have to release a DVD project soon.
Untill few days ago, I was not aware that a regular DVD would reach up to 720x576px
Reading on the Internet I found this article on Adobe but being a Pr Pro forum I do not know if what they suggest can be applied to PrE and also it seems quite complicated to do.
So, I decided to ask the question here as being more appropriate.
[Question 1] I run PrE 11 and wish to know what do I have to do in order to go from FullHD to SD for creating a standard DVD-R 4.7GB still PAL Widescreen 16:9 25fps video.
[Question 2] I wish to know if I can continue working on my existing video project set being set as PAL AVCHD Full HD 1080i 25 (16:9) or if I have to start a new project as PAL Widescreen (which will be 720x576). If so, I wish to know if I can save the portion of the TimeLine of the video still in FullHD (to preserver quality) and than impot it into the new project.
Thinking over this issue I still believe that if a user needs to have the Master video in FullHD, because he/she needs to produce the video in different resolutions or media, it is correct to record in FullHD.
Perhaps where I made the mistake is the type of project I selected in PrE when creating a new one.
[Question 3] But even if I made a mistake in the selection of the adeguate project if I wish to avoid editing the same project with the same edits several times can I still base all my editing on the Master project (set as PAL AVCHD Full HD 16:9) and than export it in FullHD MPEG or even better AVCHD M2T or MP4. Than create a new PAL Widescreen 16:9 25fps project and import the exported video? Will I be able to preserve video quality?
Thank you,
Spiro

Hi,
I appreciate you took your time to reply to me. Indeed I do need proper help and people assisting me. Thanks!
Few concepts I have I have in mind I wish to discuss with you to see where I make mistakes and where I can proceed.
1. If my Master soruce is Full HD for as long as I properly se the PrE project to match the Aspect Ration I can edit the video and than Save it/Share it as FullHD AVCHD M2T or MP4. Do you confirm me this? Which of the two video formatshould I choose from (M2T or MP4)?
1a. I know that my current Master video recording is 9GB in size and here is its native specs. I would assume that PrE when Sharing it as FullHD AVCHD it would be in the same range of MB. I fear that the size of the file could be huge and eat my disc space. Any idea on this?
2. I have been reading on the Internet that there are a lot of software (free and pay) that would convert video from HD to SD. I also read that PrE and PrE Pro do not have a good reputation in converting these videos. Would it be a good idea to first convert the video from HD to SD with a good software and than use this converted video to work on the PAL SD project? This in order to preserve vidoe quality and not get the video distorted in its PAR? Or instead this is not the case and I can safely just add the native or edited but still HD video in my PAL SD project and will not have quality issues?
3. I think of video pixel size the same as for a picture. So, I assume 16:9 FullHD would have the equivalent in a picture of 1920x1080px, correct?
So I go into Photoshop EL and create a new empty image with the size of 1920x1080px. I than draw something inside and save.
Than I go int Image and Resize and make sure Keep proportion" is enable so that when I type either the width or the lenght it automatically presents me with the other value. When I type 720 it gives me 405 rather than 576 as for what I was aiming to.
What is wrong? Why is Photoshop EL does not give me the correct equivalent of a 25fps, interlaced 50Hz DVD resolution of 720x576px? Do I have to look for a specific setting to let Photoshop EL know that I wish to manipulate this file for the video? What is the pixel size for DVD PAL Widescreen 16:9 and for DVD PAL 4:3 (at max DVD resolution)?
I ask question 3 also because I have some very nice and quality pictures that I wish to include in my video PAL Widescreen but their size is way bigger than 720x576 and I was adivsed to resize them with Photoshop EL before adding them to the project. But, I do not know what values to insert when scaling down the picture.
Lastly, as for dpi in Photoshop EL do I have to live 300dpi or can I lower to 72dpi? What is the correct amount of dpi for a DVD video at max resolution?
Thank you,
Spiro

  • AME does not work

CS4 Windows 7 and today AME does not work
From Premiere to AME (from fullHD to Mpg2) it start codering but stops.
I can see that AME trys to make a.mpg file but at the same time AME makes also a .w2m and a .mpa file.
I can use AME for codering to een AVI file. Till now never had a problem with AME.
    What could be the problem?

What version of Premiere Pro and AME are you using?  When was the last time there was no problem?  Do you remember what you were doing before this problem started?
Does clearing the app prefs solve this?
    To clear the app preference,
CS6: Hold Cmd+Alt+Shift (Mac)/Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Win) and launch AME.
CC 7.0 or later: Hold Shift and launch AME.

  • Poor Quality DVD with AVCHD input

    Hi all:
I did not find this addressed on the iDVD pages or this page. I have imported AVCHD format video of my son's soccer game. Used iMovie08 7.1.1 to edit it. I was shooting in sports mode. It looks great connected directly to the TV.
After rendering the movie (takes forever!) and burning a DVD, the quality output on my 50 inch tv is horrible. I tried using Xbox, the older PS2 and an built in older DVD player. The quality was poor especially when tracking the ball and the players (panning) across the field. I shot in wide format and burned in that format. Am I missing something?
Is there something I can do? I spent all this money on the Canon HF10 and would really like to see it and share it! Also, is there a faster way to import besides the USB port? I know...a computer upgrade is also in my future.
    Thanks in advance.

HEY, AM I READING THIS RIGHT, (yeah I'm shouting)
Your telling us you know how to use im08 and iDVD in some way that (apparently) no-one else knows but you won't share it, at the same time as advertising your book in your signature. I think you should be reading the terms and conditions of the forum here.
Oh and by the way, while the video in the linked clips is indeed crisp and clear it stutters like a nervous old man with Parkinsons, not sure if the clips are yours but have to wonder if your books merely tell us how to make less than acceptable video.
Tom Wolsky writes some really excellent books but is quite happy to share his knowledge for free and has helped 10's of thousands of people in the video forums. Indeed Jon and Karsten from this very forum have shared their considerable knowledge in the form of online written and video help.

  • "Slideshow" with FullHD video

I have a video in FullHD (1920x1080p), which I copied to an external hard drive (firewire 400). On the computer installed latest version of Perian and VLC. The image is displayed on the external TV via DVI-HDMI cable.
When I try to play this movie I am seeing a "slideshow" instead of a movie. That is, the picture is moving very slowly, but the sound comes as it should be.
At the time of playback I have no background process. I tried to copy a film on the internal disk and got the same result.
Start a Apple Hardware Test - all components are normal, no errors there.
Also I tried to create a new user, and even reinstall the operating system, any effect it has not.
I ask for assistance, as well as buying a fairly powerful computer feel discomfort when playing movies.
Sorry for my english... I'm from Russia

If you are displaying images, video, and embedded web pages why not just use html web pages? assemble a mini Web site in other words.
No need for any special application to run them... pretty much every computer has some type of Web browser already built in... which would take care of the display part.
As for the embedded Web pages... are these coming from the Internet? or is this a real stand alone where the Web pages are static and stored in the same folders as your other content?
Once you assemble the slide show, you can F11 the browser (go full screen) so there are no address or tool bars showing and it will look like a neat, complete package deal!
I've done exactly that and also included invisible buttons so user can navigate to particular parts of the slideshow or video. Used in a lobby kiosk at a large hotel in town. With a wireless mouse the Front desk can select various parts of the slideshow if a guest is interested, or just let it run through from start to finish.
Very easy to update or add new material.... it's just a self contained Web site... not connected to the Internet.. although it could be if needed.

  • Exporting workflow from PP CS4 for intermediate files

    Hi there,
I have native footage from Sony EX1 (mp4 or MXF container with mpeg 2 long GOP codec) which I cut and slightly filter/modify in Premiere Pro CS4.1.
Most times I shoot in 1080/50i (yes, I need that format) and need both: FullHD for Blu-ray and PAL-SD for DVDs of the same footage.
Most of you will confirm, that simply downscaling with AME gives terrible results. So I use eg. Dan Isaacs great workflow with VDub and AviSynth to deinterlace and downscale and then encode with TMPGEnc Xpress for DVDs. This gives somehow good results but I am unsure, if I am doing right.
Here is the problem: CS4 does not allow debugmode frameserver anymore so I have to render an intermediate file for further use eg with AviSynth.
But how do I get fully valid intermediate video files out from CS4? Uncompressed AVI is pure horror, its slow rendering, even on an i7-PC, and giant in file size. I would like to export with HuffYuv or Lagarith codec, for example. But everybody says, EX1-footage is, as all HD footage, TopFieldFirst. When exporting "Microsoft AVI" with those codecs one has to choose BottomFieldFirst - all other tries result in black video. I assume only BFF is valid in Microsoft AVI, somehow.
I would like to use Cineform but converting footage with NeoScene is only possible from HDV/AVCHD-camcorders and when exporting with its codec as Microsoft AVI it has the same BFF-only-problem. And I cannot afford NeoHD which would do my job perfectly with EX1-footage.
How the heck do you export HD footage (with TopFieldFirst) for further use from PP CS4, please?
Any hint is appreciated, at the moment I am lost,
    thanks a lot in advance!

    Hi Ann,
I use MPEG2 as the codec.  When you set M and N frames to 1 in the export settings dialog, you get an I-frame-only MPEG file.  That's essentially an intra-frame compression as opposed to MPEG2 DVD encoding, which is a temporal, inter-frame compression (and very lossy).  When I set the bit rate for the I-frame-only MPEG2 file to 100 Mbps, it's visually lossless.  I set the Profile to 4:2:2 to preserve the color data and the Level to High to allow the very high bit rate.
Sources for my tests have been AVCHD footage from a Panasonic HMC-150 camera (not mine, unfortunately!) and some AVC and MPEG2 HD transport streams.  I've tested 1080i60, 1080p24, 1080p30, 720p60, 720p30 and 720p24.
I don't use MRQ to export the intermediate because no scaling or deinterlacing needs to be done to the HD footage.  The intermediate file gets exported at the same frame size and field order as the source.  All of the scaling and deinterlacing (if necessary) is done by the hd2sd script in AviSynth.  So my intermediate exports run just a bit faster than real time on my 8-core system.
(Big kudos again to Dan Isaacs not only for the hd2sd script, but for giving me the proper settings for the MPEG2 intermediate export.)

  • Master in FullHD, Burn to FullHD?

    Hi,
I'm still confusing what s'ld I burn to if my master video in FullHD?!
I've try to burn my FullHD master video to a 4.7GB DVD (+) but it can't play on a DVD player or BlueRay player or even MBP!
What do you say? DVDR + vs - issue? FullHD must be burn on a BlueRay Disk? 4.7FB DVD only recognize SD Video?
    Hear from you & appreciate!

"FullHD" is a marketting term. Stuff for Best Buy to use to sell camcorders.  It really isn't a term we all use.  Because what is Full HD?  1080p?  OK, for that you need BluRay.  DVD-R is SD only.  720x480.  And you cannot use a standard DVD for this (well, some say you can, if it is under 10 min).
If you want Full HD...you need to author to BluRay and BluRay disks.  And then play back on a BluRay player

  • I've problem! I cannot import files FullHD in FinalCutPro 6, using my Camcorder, a Panasonic HDC-SDT750.

I've a OSX 10.6.3. HD video, I have to import them with I'Movie, Final Cut doesn't recognize them. Where's the problem? Thanks for helping me!

Gotcha...I was wondering if either you or he were suffering from muscle memory...typing the words you type the most.  I still type "Shane" instead of "Shake" almost all the time.
FullHD...stupid marketting term.  All it means is full raster 1920x1080... the footage is still HIGHLY compressed...not shooting UNCOMPRESSED HD.  The AVCHD that the camera shoots gets converted to ProRes 422...just to warn you, the file sizes of the footage will increase to about 4 times the size of the original.  Meaning if you have recorded 1GB of video, FCP will import that and it will take up 4GB of space.  This is because the shooting format isn't editable...it is highly compressed and in a non-editable format.  FCP converts it to ProRes, a high quality format, so that you can work with it.
Make sure that you use an external hard drive for this footage.  Firewire800 or better connection.  DO NOT USE THE COMPUTERS SYSTEM DRIVE TO STORE THIS FOOTAGE.  It isn't designed to work with video, and space will go FAST.

  • How can I prevent the text in non-resizable contexts from being cut off?

I have not changed the Application, System, or Dialog fonts from their defaults.
    This is the result:
    Related:  http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/text-in-non-resizable-windows-is-cut-off/td-p/92300

Medium might be the default for high ppi monitors but it is very different from the original windows settings that were used when 96 ppi was standard. Of course for a high resolution FullHD resolution on a 15 inch screen you end up with a ppi of around 150ppi.
This article explains somewhat the history of where 96ppi came from and that it was in fact already a convinient misrepresentation of the real values. The problem is partly that LabVIEW makes some assumptions about the size of text based on the actual ppi settings while the rendering of the text as done by Windows can be scaled by your control panel adjustment. However the solution is not as trivial as replacing all assumbtions about the size of text by the new values as that won't always give the correct values either and also has quite a lot of other issues such as controls suddenly looking very oversized when moving a front panel from a low ppi device to a high ppi device. Basically the way Windows deals with screen resolution and different ppi makes it simple for Windows to render text on a display without ugly aliasing effects but makes it impossible for an application to both be text and size accurate when rendering windows like a LabVIEW front panel.
It's also a reason why so called retina displays still don't really work under Windows while IOS has them already for quite some time.
Ravens Fan, Windows 7 has Normal (100%), Medium (125%) and Larger (150%). To maintain the relative text size on an old CRT for a FullHD 15 inch labtop display one would have to use the Larger setting, which is outright ugly. I personally use Smaller on all my Windows 7 labtops because of issues like the LabVIEW front panels rendering but also many other applications get into trouble otherwise. Yes it looks kind of small on my FullHD 15 inch LCD monitor, but at least it is all consistent.

  • Going from ATI onboard to Nvidia dedicated vid card.. is it this easy?

    pacman -R xf86-video-ati
    then pacman -S xf86-video-nvidia?
or is there a "different" way..
i have onboard video hd2400 ati pciE but it's vga. I just got a new 23" AOC 60,000:1 FULLHD lcd.. but i cant take advantage of it all, unless i have a DVI connection on the video card.. i found a nice cheap 512 ddr2 nvidia for 39.99 w/ dvi (since I dont play games, I think the ddr2 older video card will be more then enough for watching videos, doing graphics)
so I'm asking how do i go about going from ati to nvidia.. is there more to it then I asked above? or is there a sequence of steps i should take so that i can actually get my computer running w/o screwing up being able to see what I'm doing..
    thanks in advance
btw, any mods reading this(or if anyone knows how to show the mods that ive added this statement, please show them), i can NOT apologize enough for losing my cool, being rude, ignorant and making a total imbecile of myself on this forum.. if there's any other way I can publically apologize , let me know.. I will do it.. cause that is NOT the person I am.. again Sorry !!! please accept my apology

im not sure.. i know back in the day with onboard agp and you added a dedicated agp you had to go into bios and disable onboard agp..
same with onboard sound.. when adding a pci sound card..
dont know if its the case with newer computers, its possible after putting in the pcie card, itll disable the onboard anyway..
ill know more when i actually get the card.. for 40bucks and having true DVI to DVI is worth the price..

  • FCE and FullHD (1920x1080)

I just bought a Canon fullhd cam (XHA1) and FCE ...
When I import my footages, I get automaticaly 1080x720 in FCE !
From other posts I read FCE can't play with 1920x1080. Is this still the case ?
Do I have to change something in the setup ?
    Thank you for answer

    Well FCE4 doesn't work at 1920x1080.
So it allows you to import such material, but you will see that in timeline you need to render to continue to work (see the red/orange lines indicating that you need to render).
So once you render (from menu sequence -> render all) then you can edit your movie.
Personally I don't know how much you can notice loosing in res working @ 1440, I guess it depends also how you are going to see your final movie (TV, web etc).

    Armando.

  • Is it possible to replace w541s fullHD display panel with a 3k panel

Hi, I just received a W541 (20EG000D++)  from lenovo as a replacement to my old machine that i had several issues with. However they could only offer me a machine with a fullhd panel as a replacement since my old machine ha fullhd. As I booted up the machine I noticed that the fullHD panel used in it is lit from the bottom and has a very narrow vertical field of view. Since I mainly work with creative cloud software environment I can not work with this kind of display so the only option is to upgrade it now.   So the question is can i just buy the 3k panasonic display that is used in another w541 setup and install it, will it work? i have tried googleing this and tend to find very little info on this matter...

I am running an ATI Radeon Mobility X300. I am currently running a 23" Apple Cinema Display at 1600x200, so I know it can handle a higher resolution than you stated. I have called many people about this (even Dell, to get their take on how to run their 30"), and basically, unless someone comes out with a PCMCIA card that is dual link DVI, you can't run it. I expect that villagetronic will come out with one eventually.

  • Three movies I bought from iTunes this morning do not show up on the 1st Gen AppleTV.

I understand some file formats are not compatible with AppleTV (1st gen) but these films were purchased directly from iTunes.  One would assume they are formatted properly to work on Apple equipment, yes?  Previously purchased movies show up on the AppleTV just fine, so I'm not sure what's going with these three.  They were from the $4.99 Sci Fi collection:  Enemy Mine, Dune and Terminator 2.  Oldies but goodies.  The iMac, where the iTunes Library lives is used to stream the content to the AppleTV, and everything that is in my Library appears to be available for streaming, except these three films.  Any advice?

I have now restored Factory Settings on the Apple TV. Looked promising until iTunes hangs everytime I tried to enter the podcast page of the sync options. And I get errors that my newest movies, created in Final Cut Pro X with the Share with 720p Apple Devices export settings are not compatible with Apple TV.
    Unbelievable.

    Hi there,
I have issues that I cannot seem to resolve:
I can receive from my shaw account but it sends all outgoing to the Outbox - I've double, triple cheked all incoming and outgoing servers - I even sat with my iPad next to my iMac to make sure everything matched.
it says  The sender address "myemailadrees.com" was rejected by the server. even though I recive ok.
    Help please??

I too have spend countless hours trying to get my iPad 2 to work with my Shaw email.  I FINALLY got it to work this morning after about 3 months of trying different "solutions".  Here is how I set my POP email account:
    Incoming mail server:
Host name:  shawmail.ed.shawcable.net (I live in Edmonton)
User name: my shaw email address without the @shaw.ca
    Password: my Shaw email password
    Outgoing mail server:
Host name:  shawmail.ed.shawcable.net (I live in Edmonton)
    User name: leave blank
    Password: leave blank
    Use SSL: off
    Server port: 25
This has worked so far for me, so hopefully it will work for others as well.  It seems like there is an lot of people on these forums going through the same frustrations.  I was able to set both mine and my wife's email accounts on my iPad.

  • Open Pages from Discoverer Report

    Hi,
Is there a way to invoke a webpage or even better, an oracle function (that links to forms or self-service) from a discoverer report row ?
for example, I want a report for employees where the person looking at the report will click on the employee name and is taken straight to the person details page for that employee.
    Regards.

    Hi,
You can create a link to a form function using fnd_run_function.get_run_function_url. You can create a calculation either in a view or using a calculated item in the EUL (you will have to map the get_run_function_url in the EUL to do this). You then set the content type property of the EUL item to FILE so that when the item is selected in the workbook it appears as a hyperlink.
Most forms in apps except parameters so that you can pass the employee id to the form and the form will open up with the employee record. For example, if you are using a seed HR person form you create a calculation,
    fnd_run_function.get_run_function_url(3494      -- PERWSHRG-404
                                         ,800       -- HR
                                         ,fnd_global.RESP_ID     -- caller's responsibility
                                         ,0        -- Business Group
                                         ,         -- Parameters
         'P_PERSON_ID='||TO_CHAR(person_id, 'fm9999999999999')||
