From G5 to MacBook -- Transferring film sequence -- Best method?

What is the best procedure for transferring a sequence onto the desktop of a MacBook Pro? (The MacBook doesn't have FCP loaded.)
G5 Mac OS X (10.4.5) fcp 5.1.2
G5 Mac OS X (10.0.x)
G5   Mac OS X (10.0.x)
G5   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

The actual movie itself? The QT export of the sequence?
Connect the laptop to the tower via firewire, and restart the laptop into TARGET mode...hold down the T key as the computer starts up until you see the firewire symbol. Then the drive should appear on the desktop of the tower.
In FCP, go FILE>EXPORT>Quicktime Movie. Self Contained, using sequence settings. Choose the laptop as the destination.
HOWEVER....if the sequence is DVCPRO HD, DVCPRO 50, HDV or other native format, then the laptop will not be able to view that file. You'll need to convert it to another format.
BUT...FCP is licensed to be used on one tower and one laptop owned by the customer...as long as they aren't running the application at the same time. So you can install it to allow you to see the QT .

    Use setup assistant which is offered when you setup your new Mac.  It will transfer information from a Time Machine backup, Clone or another Mac.
    It's best to do this during setup to avoid issues with duplicate IDs.

  • If I buy refurbished from the online store, can I take it in and have my stored items from my old macbook transferred to the new lone for free??

    I bought a refurbished Macbook Pro online today. I purchased the apple protection plan with it as well. If I purchased the additional coverage or for any other reason, will a certified apple store transfer my storage from my old laptop to new laptop for free? Or did I need to purchase the One-on-One plan?

    No refurbished MacBook would be running a Classic operating system.    Classic refers to the operating system on Macs prior to 2007 with the PowerPC chip, that was an optional virtualization, and prior to 2004 that was an optional boot system.
    If you buy a refurbished MacBook from the Apple Store you can get AppleCare for it.  Ask the online store where you buy it from if they offer AppleCare for it or not.
    The current operating system Mac OS X 10.9 is known as Mavericks, and questions regarding it should be asked here:
    OS X Mavericks
    This is a user to user forum, and policies of the store are specific to the store.     Go to http://www.apple.com/retail/ to get your local store's number,
    and usually hitting the number 5 will get you a real person if they don't say which number to reach one at the store.

  • Send Msg. from HTML DB App to another server : Best method?

    Hi folks,
    I am new to HTML DB and have a question about how to best pass information from an HTML DB application to another server. I need to convert an existing Perl-based application to HTML DB.
    I currently use sockets. The caller program opens the socket and sends a message across the network where a Perl service is listening on that port. Ideally, I would like to keep the Perl service on the destination server.
    Specifications:
    Sender : Runs HTML DB release 1.6 Oracle 10g on Windows 2003 server, IE 6
    Receiver: Windows 2003 server. Basic server: No web services running.
    I searched the archives and have not found any information on using sockets. Perhaps I am missing the obvious. Is there a better way?
    If not, can I use Perlscript in my HTML within HTML DB? Something like this:
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="PerlScript" RUNAT="myserver">
    $window->document->write('calling socket......');
    use IO::Socket;
    my $sock = new IO::Socket::INET (
               PeerAddr => 'otherserver',
               PeerPort => 'xxxx',
               Proto     => 'tcp',
              die "Could not create socket: $!\n" unless $sock;
    # Pass info
    print $sock "var1|val1|var2|val2";
    close($sock);
    </SCRIPT>Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers!

    Turns out, this was quite simple with UTL_TCP. I defined the following process and then attached it to a button on the page:
    DECLARE
      c  utl_tcp.connection;
      ret_val integer;
    BEGIN
      c := utl_tcp.open_connection(remote_host => 'xxx.xx.x.xxx',
                                   remote_port =>  xx,
                                   charset     => 'US7ASCII');
      ret_val := utl_tcp.write_line(c, 'The medium is the message');
      utl_tcp.close_connection(c);
    END;

  • Migrating Clients from SMS 2003 to SCCM 2012 R2. Best method?

    I have set up a new SCCM 2012 R2 server to replace our existing SMS 2003.
    Our client systems (all Windows 7 SP1 x64 and x86) still have the SMS 2003 client installed but I would like to move them over to the SCCM 2012 R2 server now. I know there are several methods for installing the SCCM client (manual, push, group policy) but
    none of these provide a way to uninstall the old client.
    Is there a best practice or commonly used process for doing this? Should I be getting rid of the SMS client first by logon script or some other method and the pushing the SCCM client or some other way? Thank you for any advice.

  • Moving rental film from iMac to MacBook

    Like many, apparently, I was perplexed that a rental film I downloaded on my iMac iTunes didn't appear automatically on my MacBook Air.
    After much investigation, I found I could transfer the film, by cable, from iMac to iPhone:
    plug in iPhone > open iTunes on iMac > select iPhone in sidebar > select movies menu > rental film should appear at top > move button
    and then rinse and repeat from iPhone to MacBook Air.
    My question: is there an easier way of doing this?
    All macs and devices are recent models, authorised, on one Apple account and on wifi. I have no Apple TV.

    Who else is perplexed?
    No time to list all the similar threads on this forum and others, since all I want to know is how best to move rentals from one computer to another. Maybe try searching this forum for similar queries?
    You can only have iTunes rentals on one device at a time.
    You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
    I understand that, but thanks for reiterating it, it may clarify the policy for others. All I want to know is what is the best way of moving rentals from one computer to another.
    The FAQ you linked to gives the rules for moving rentals, but does not tell you how to do it. There is another Apple helpsheet somewhere, which I have read and used, which shows you how to do it by plugging in the cable and using "move" in iTunes. But I came to this forum wondering if there might be a faster, simpler way of doing it. Maybe wirelessly or direct from computer to computer. Since the helpsheet only addresses how to move from computer to phone and vice versa, not from computer to computer. The term used is in their rules is "devices", which in this context does seem to include desk computers and laptops.
    I know I can do it via an iPhone by plugging the iPhone first into one computer and then the second. This seems likely a very 20th century way of doing things. It may be the only way, and indeed is starting to look like that from the lack of responses. But if there is another better way I'd like to know. Simple as that.
    Not an attack on Apple, from whom I have purchased thousands of dollars of products per year since the 1980s, and with whom as a company I am generally very happy. Not an attack on the forum. Not even an attack on the unwieldy transfer mechanism which may well be a product of stringent licence agreements with content providers. And certainly not an attack on Apple's rules for rental transfers. Just a simple request for information about a very specific technical issue, how to move rentals from one computer to another, which will undoubtedly be of interest to many others searching the forum.
    I know that I can purchase a rental directly from iTunes on to any device. That seems obvious and is not helpful once you have a rental on one computer and want to move it to another computer.

  • Best Method for transfering iTunes library from Windows 7 to Mac OSX

    I just bought a MacBook Air and am in the process of preparing my file transfer. The only data on my computer I really care about is my school/work files, (which are very easy to transfer), and my iTunes library. What is the best method for transfering music?
    I was going to use an external drive and simply drag and drop everything. Last time I did this I needed a special file in order to keep my playlists, top rated, and playcount. Is there an easier and faster method now? I have about fifty gigabites of music so I think it might take longer over wifi.
    I also have an iPhone and have already transfered all of the recent purchases. If I export my library, will all my iPhone backup data stay there as well?
    If anybody has some insight or a link that outlines all of this that'd be great. Thanks in advance.

    Here's a pretty comprehensive "how to"

    Make sure the external drive is foratted so both the pc and the mac can read and write to it.

  • Trapped at transferring data from my old macbook pro to iMac

    I got a new iMac yesterday and was trying to transfer data from my old macbook pro to iMac through time machine...
    However, I encountered HUGE problems....
    Background info: I set up a new account before I transffered my data.
    Here is what I did:
    I used migration assistance to transfer data. I chose to transfer everything listed on migration assistance from time machine to my new iMac.
    After this process was completed, I switched to the transferred account from my newly-set account. Then I realized all the old stuf, (including the software problems + old apps such as microsoft 2008, had been transferred to my new iMac. what I really wanted were all the documents, pictures and music! Therefore I decided to delete this account....
    Question 1:
    1) I deleted the transferred account, then there was a windown came up asking me if i wanted to keep the home folder, I chose no. then mac started cleaning up and BACKING UP. Since I already had a copy of everything, I stopped the backup process....then this transferred account was deleted. However, everything was still on my mac that I don't have access to (at least I don't know how...) when I checked my mac stroage!
       Could anyone tell me how to delete all the files I transferred from time machine to my new iMac?
    Question 2:
    2) how can i only transfer documents+pictures+music from my old macbook pro to new iMac through time machine without creating a new account? I want all the files to be directly transferred to my newly-set account...
    LSS:
    Question 1
    I tried to transfer everthing from my old macbook pro to new iMac but i realized there were something I didn't want that had been transferred as well. Therefore I deleted this transferred account. However, all the files are still in my mac even if I have deleted that account. Could anyone tell me how I can access to those content and delete them?
    Question 2
    I just want the documents, music and pictures (from iPhone library) to be directly transferred to the newly-set account on my iMac through time machine (instead to transferred the whole old account to my imac) How can I do it??
    THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE OF GOING THROUGH THIS MESSAGE. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD GIVE ME A HAND.
    btw, you can totally see that i'm not a computer person at all....:( thanks for your help!!

    I suggest starting over. Boot into Recovery mode, wipe the HD, reinstall the OS, and, on first boot, use the steps in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide to do the migration.'

    The ipod is not a backup/storage device.
    You need to copy everything from your old computer to your new one.
    The Apple store will do this for you,  you can call apple support and they will help you, you can use google.

    MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), iphoto '11, version 9.4.2

    To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
    Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
    But however you do choose to link the two machines...
    Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
    This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

    Hi I just got a new MacBook Pro I need help transferring Bootcamp (Windows XP) from my old Macbook Pro to my new Macbook Pro  Mac OS X 10.7.4  2.6 Ghz Intel Core 17. How do I make bootable clone of Bootcamp?

    you can't just move XP even if you took the hard drive and have Windows boot and function.
    Apparently there are Windows tools to sanitize the OS and strip all the motherboard drivers and services.
    Time to get a supported OS. Don't want to pay, then use 8 for the time until it goes on sale.
    There are no drivers for even Vista on 2011 and later Macs.
