From Gbic to RJ45

Hi, first time posting here, I hope It's on right topic.
We have an available port on a WS-X4306-GB module (GBIC), and we want to connect a port from a WLC 5508. We have currently an ethernet cable connected to the WLC.
I was wondering if there is n adapter to connect between them.
Thanks in advanced.

You could plug in a Copper RJ45 GBIC Transceiver (part number WS-G5483) into the GBIX port on the WS-X4306-X module and connect over Category copper cable to WLC.
Is this what you are trying to accomplish?

  • Cisco mini-GBIC replacing "RJ45 to Optic converter"

    Hi all
First post, so please be gentle...
We are planning to change the current infrastructure of one of our clients.
As part of this process we are replacing “RJ45 to Optic Fibre converters” with “Cisco mini-GBICs”.
In the attached PDF file you will see 2 examples.
Example 1 represents the current client setup
In Example 2 we have replaced the branch office “RJ45 to Optic Fibre converter” with a Cisco MGBSX1 connected to the Cisco SG300
However this does not work, the Cisco SG300 never boots up correctly and after connecting the Fibre to the Mini-GBIC, the Cisco switch System LED just keeps flashing.
I suspect for this to work we also need a Mini-GBIC connected to the HP Procurve2510 replacing the “RJ45 to Optic Fibre converter” in the Main office!
Is anyone able to confirm this?
If this is not the problem, what else could we be doing wrong?
    Cheers

Is your converter 100 Mbps? If so, that'll give you an unsuccessful setup.
Fiber transceivers are fixed speed and have no autosense feature or speed selection - they must be the same speed at each end - 1 Gbps given your use of the mini-GBIC you cited.
The HP switch can use a mini-GBIC in either of the dual personality ports and, in your setup, that's what you'd need. All of the regular copper ports are strictly 10/100 Mbps.
Your fiber link also needs to be multimode and no more than 500m per this Cisco info page.

  • Internet from 7100 STB RJ45 jack?

The 7100-P1/P2 STB has an RJ45 jack on the back.  Can I get internet from this port for u-tube / netflix viewing?  Or do I need to run a separate CAT5/6 cable from the router to the TV ?

  • From RGC to RJ45 - How??

    Hi, guys.
The internet I use today gets to my house in a RJ45 cable that I connect to a Netgear Wireless router. I have a PC connected to it via a RJ45 cable and I use my iBook wirelessly.
The fact is that now there's a free hotspot near my house but I need an antenna to get the signal.
Since I don't want to get rid of my Netgear router, and I don't want to connect the hotspot direct to the PC and share the connection through the ethernet, how can I convert the RGC cable that comes from the antenna to an RJ45 cable that I can connect to my router?
What kind of equipment do I need? Any suggestions on brands and models?
    Thanks a lot.
    JP
PS: No, I can't remove the router antenna and connect the rgc cable on it.

You can't. They're completely different technologies, signal type and electrical frequencies.
You'd need to check whether your base station has an external antenna port that can take the RGC antenna feed. If it doesn't you're out of luck and would need to find a router that would work.

  • Trunk Confiugration on ME4900 Switch

    Hello Technical Team,
We have 2 Cisco ME4900 Switch with 3 Modules inside: Below are the detail for the Module:
Mod Ports Card Type                              Model              Serial No.
    ---+-----+--------------------------------------+------------------+-----------
     1     8  4900M 10GE (X2)                        WS-C4900M
     2    24  10GE (X2), 1000BaseX (SFP)             WS-X4908-10GE
     3    20  10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45)                WS-X4920-GB-RJ45
I am trying to build trunk between these 2 Switches by using 10GE(X2) 1000Base X (SFP) Ports but unfortunately I am fail to do that. Is there any specific Command to make trunk or port channel between 2 ME-4900 Switch?
    Thanks,
    JH

    Hi RS,
    I have below Modules:
    1     8  4900M 10GE (X2)                        WS-C4900M
    2    24  10GE (X2), 1000BaseX (SFP)    WS-X4908-10GE
    3    20  10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45)          WS-X4920-GB-RJ45
If I do show run then I have follow Ports order:
    1     8  4900M 10GE (X2)      WS-C4900M
    interface TenGigabitEthernet1/1 TO TenGigabitEthernet1/8
    2    24  10GE (X2), 1000BaseX (SFP)    WS-X4908-10GE
    interface TenGigabitEthernet2/1 TO interface TenGigabitEthernet2/8
    interface GigabitEthernet2/9 TO interface GigabitEthernet2/24
    3    20  10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45)          WS-X4920-GB-RJ45
    interface GigabitEthernet3/1 TO interface GigabitEthernet3/20
So i am going to use SFP base X2 Convertor for Trunk between another ME-4900 Switch so do do I use 2/9-10 ports from 1st 2 SFP Ports from GBIC?
Further what is the command to check the port group ?
Kindly see the SH running for your advice.
    Thanks,
    JH

  • NoRouteToHostException on localhost

    Hello,
I've got one RMI server and one RMI client on the same machine.
All works allright but if I disconnect my computer from the localnetwork (rj45) or the internet (ADSL), the RMI client crashs in a "NoRouteToHostException to host 192.168.0.1 or xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" (my ip on local network or my ip over the Internet)
I always bind and lookup my services on "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" but RMI seems to go throught the local network if it is available at server start time.
If a start the server when the machine is disconnected from the network&internet, there is no pb, I can connect/desconnect the machine from the networks without interferring with RMI...
    Any idea?
    Thanks

Look at the posting on Feb 23, 2004 named "ConnectIOException after disconnecting network cable "
You might try creating your own SocketFactory with a createServerSocket() as follows:
    class MyFactory implements RMIServerSocketFactory
                public ServerSocket createServerSocket(int port)
                            try
                                       InetSocketAddress is = new InetSocketAddress("127.0.0.1", port);
                                        return new ServerSocket(port, 10, is.getAddress());
                            } catch(Exception e)
                                        throw new RuntimeException(e);
}Then create the registry as follows:
LocateRegistry.createRegistry(1099, null, new MyFactory()); and bind your server to this registry. It seemed to fix the issue on an RMI test program that I wrote.

  • Airpot extreme 4th gen, internet connection works and doesn't work

I have this airport extreme 4th generation that worked just perfectly untill 2 days ago.
I have a modem from the Tel Company. From there a RJ45 cable goes into the Airposrt extreme.
    The light is green.
If I open the airport utility, it tells me the internet connection works (green light) and sometimes doesn't works (orange light)
I first had problem with wifi on iPhone 4s (wife and friends), who couldn't join the wifi network anymore. They can see the wifi network, they type the password but can't login.
I had problems with my last gen MacBookPro, apparently for no reason. Sometimes it connects some other time it doesn't.
    Same story with my iPhone5.
I also made an hard reset of the airport extreme but with no result. nothing changed.
Sometimes the internet connection is on some other times is off.
Now I want to understand where is the problem, can be the ISP, can be the airport that is damaged?
    Thanks.

    Router mode: Bridge mode
You do not have multiple public IP.. DHCP is the wrong setting..
One or the other has to be bridged.. the AE is currently the one bridged..
Or the modem has to be bridged.. pick on or the other.
Did you chack the modem logs?
    What modem is it?
What do the lights on the modem show when the connection drops out?
Did you plug something directly into the modem and see if internet is still working when the AE stops working??

  • Configure Sony BluRay to connect to internet.

Hi. I want to connect to the internet from my Sony bdp-n460 bluray player since the TV itself is not enabled for internet. I have a cat5 patch cable already running from the only RJ45 (labeled LAN-100) on the DVD to the lone Ethernet RJ45 port on the Motorola STB. I have tried to config all the addresses for IP,Subnet, Gateway and DNS. Evidently I finding the DCHP server as I no longer get the message associated with that since I finally got the address correct. I have checked the router main settings menu on the computer connected to the router (ActionTec MI424WR) and though I am seeing both STBs listed, I do not see the DVD. I am assuming that is related to my problem, but I don't know how to configure it. Can someone assist?
    Stumped in NJ

matcarl is right - the ethernet ports on the STB are not functional, so instead of the STB you have to plug it into one of the numbered lan ports on the router (1, 2, 3, or 4).
that is the best way to do it for reliability and functionality.
if you must connect it wirelessly, then you would need the SSID and the WEP key found on the service tag of the router.  if the router is standing upright then the sticker will be on the left hand side, if the router is laying flat then you'll find the sticker underneath it.
If you want to connect it wired to the router and don't have an easy way to do that, then I would recommend you buy an HME2200 or an EB2200 moca/coax bridge.
it will connect in any room that has a live tv coax cable, and on the other end it has an ethernet.    It works great, and theres no configuration neccessary.

  • EA6500 - hangs every day, must power cycle

I bought a EA6500 a few weeks ago, and so far this has been a terrible experience.
    Physical setup
At home, I have a cable modem working as a bridge. No NATing, just a media conversion from Coax to RJ45 ethernet. Thus the EA6500 has an official IP on it's WAN interface.
    Installation
On my first attempt to install it I had to give up after an hour. The fancy setup program on the CD never found the router, and I had some work to do. Thus, I reconnected my old router to get reconnected to the internet.
Five days ago I finally found the time to give it another go. Once again, the setup program on the CD had a hard time finding the router. When it finally found it, I could never finish the configuration routine. I supplied all the information needed, and the progress bar grew to 60% and then the setup program said it couldn't finish the install. This happened on every attempt. I disabled my antivirus and firewall, but no success. I tried to connect using a cable instead of WLAN - no success. It appears that the Setup program relies on WLAN only to get access to the router.
The first time I got a successful connection between my PC and the EA6500, the router asked me to download and install an updated firmware. This worked OK, even though the config was not 100% successful. Thus I guess the router is running the most current firmware. I can't verify this right now as I am at work.
After a while I tried to access the router's web interface directly without completing the setup program. This way, I was finally able to finish the router config and get access to the internet. During the web config the connection to internet came and went several times.
    Use
After finishing the config, I downloaded the Smart WiFi app to my iPhone 4s and could connect to the router. This seem to work OK when I do have an internet connection. The problem is that the router freezes every day, sometimes 2-3 times a day and all internet connection is lost for my entire home network.
When this happens, all LAN lights kind of dim down without disappearing completely, and the router is nonresponsive. The link light on my cable modem (a bridge, not a router) dies, indicating that the link was lost. I have to use the power switch to turn the router off/on for it to wake up and resume it's work.
More often than not, the router has frozen when noone has used the network. As net use is usually limited to afternoons and evenings, the router is more often than not just idling when it freezes.
The router can not be said to be stressed or working hard. So far I have only used it to surf for news (2 iPads, 2 phones, three PCs) and stream a couple of movies using Netflix. No torrents or other connection intensive programs have been used. No USB-disks are attached.
    What to do?
Can anyone give me a hint as to where I should start looking. I don't have the time for days of diagnostics work. If I can't get the router to work anytime soon I will return it and my more than 10 year long Linksys relationship is most likely over. Trust is a  fresh commodity, and my trust in Linksys is about to pass it's best before date due to several bad experiences the last year...

I believe your router is acting that way because the initial installation was not successful. I've had the same issue having a modem-router connected with my Linksys router. It is possible that even if your modem-router is already set to bridge mode, it is still using a Private IP (which is the WAN IP of the router). If the modem-router is using a Private IP, it will cause a conflict with the Private IP Address of the Linksys router. I would suggest you reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure it manually by accessing the router page.
You check this link. You will need to agree and continue with an open network before you can open the Router password page.
If you have wireless dropping connection in your network, I suggest you check this link.
    Hope this helps!
