From Homesite to Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver is great. I would really like to use it as my
default code-cruncher ;-).
The problem is that i have gotten so used to Homesites ASP
color syntax, that i simply dont have the same good overview in
Dreamweaver. So i have to change the coloring syntax for asp pages
in Dreamweaver to look exactly like the coloring-syntax in
Homesite.
I could do that manually. But have you guys seen how much
work that will take ?
My question is: Is there an easy way to change the ASP
coloring-syntax in Dreamweaver to look and act exactly like
Homesite ?
Maybe somebody outthere knows a trick or so that will do
it...

Do you mean it's a lot of work to use Edit/Preferences/Code
Coloring .. pick
the language code you want to edit and click Edit Coloring
Scheme? That
pops up for you the appropriate code formats and you just
change them ..
doesn't look too hard to me.
I don't think there is a "Use Homesite Colors" preference ..
but that
doesn't sound like a bad idea.

  • Problems when Creating Pages from Templates in Dreamweaver 8

When creating new pages from templates in Dreamweaver 8(Ver
8.0.2). The full path for images is not created
i.e. in template the code is <img src="main_page_logo.png"
    width="814" height="172" longdesc="Main Page Logo" />
In the new file the code should be :-
    <img src="../../Templates/main_page_logo.png" width="814"
    height="172" longdesc="Main Page Logo" />
    but only :-
    <img src="main_page_logo.png" width="814" height="172"
longdesc="Main Page Logo" /> is in the code.
but this does work in Version 8.0.
Does anyone know of a setting or fix for this problem

    > Does anyone know of a setting or fix for this problem
It was regarded as a bug in previous versions, and was fixed
    in the 8.0.2
release. In normal circumstances, ALL links in a template
    file must be
relative to the template document, not relative to where you
    intend to save
the child pages. Thus, there would be no way to have a link
    in your
template document like the first one you show, e.g.,
    <img src="whatever.png"....
*unless* the file was actually in the Templates folder (a bad
    idea).
In 8.0.2, you can set your PREFERENCES for the Templates
    category to NOT
MANAGE relative links. Be aware that this may have unintended
    consequences
for you - specifically regarding other relative links in your
    site.

    Hello,
I'm a technical writer new to Dreamweaver looking for any

If you don't need to single-source your help files, then DW
    is fine, except
there's no built in way to compile your HTML into a windows
    help file
    format.
If you need single source help files, then that's really what
    RoboDemo was
    designed for.

  • No option to place from Bridge to Dreamweaver.

I purchased Dreamweaver as a stand-alone download (legal & registered to my Adobe account), and I know that the stand-alone DW doesn't come with Bridge. Because I own PS, ID & AI, I already have Bridge installed.
Since this is my first excursion into web design, I also purchased the Classroom In A Book title for DW. In the lesson on images, they want you to place a file from Bridge into Dreamweaver, but the "Place..." option in Bridge only lists the other three Adobe products. Is there a way to tell Bridge to place into DW, since DW allows me to browse in Bridge?

  • Upgrading from CS6 to Dreamweaver CC "up to date" does not allow installation of new product.

I'm trying to upgrade my mac from CS6 to dreamweaver CC, but my adober app manager says my dreamweaver is up to date. I know this is not true because I don't have the insert edge animate project button which the new dreamweaver CC advertises.
How can I install it if my app manager thinks I already have the latest version?

Save you breath: The CC versions won't be available before Monday.

  • Changeing a site from Muse to Dreamweaver in business catalyst

HI guys, I have used various forums in the past to answer many questions about web design but never have I actualy asked a queastion - I really hope someone can help me please! (I can't seem to find a simple answer anywhere!)...
    So here goes...
Being new to web design I created my very first site in Adobe Muse. My reasons for this were coming from a graphics/ print bacground the transition between the programs were really easy. I created my muse site quickly and uploaded it to business catalyst (incredibly easily) under the domain  www.keep21.co.uk.
However as I progressed in learning more about web I decided to try and move away from Muse because I wanted to have more control of the code. For this reason I started to learn Dreamweaver. Being a person who never does anything by half I decided I would start from the basics and firstly learn HTML and CSS before I looked into the program. Having gotten my head around that I created a root directory and began to re-create the site I had built in Muse by hand-coding it into Dreamweaver. I made a few changed a long the way to simplify the design and I am now happy enough to take this site live (replacing the muse site I'd already created). HOWEVER.......... I have noooooo idea how to do this and have become very confused.
Can anyone please explain how to do this please? So to re-iterate I am looking to replace the files I have on business catalyst for the site 'keep' with my new dreamweaver site.
When I started the site I created a root directory and have four basic pages within the folder (index.html, about.html,pricing.htm and contact.html) I a lso have images, templates and CSS ready to go.
    Any ideas?
    Kind regards
    Hannah

    Hi INTW,
While in Dreamweaver, Go to Site>>Manage Sites...  >>Import Business Catalyst Site
Login if prompted and then select the site from the list and choose your current root folder
A connection will be automatically setup.
If you left the download entire site checked, the current remote site folders and files will be downloaded to your root.
All you have to do is upload your new files then go to your admin and set the 'site's start page'.
That's all there is to it.
PS, id suggest you 301 redirect the old pages instead of deleting them.

  • Tailoring cut and paste from Word to Dreamweaver 8

    Hi,
I've been converting several Word documents, written by
authors at multiple institutions, to HTML using Dreamweaver 8.
My apologies for the length of this post. If there's a full
description of the process of converting from Word to HTML using
Dreamweaver, please point it out. Otherwise, here are some
    questions.
    1. Is there a way to specify how graphics are named? I'm
comparing this process with the File, Get Photos process in
Photoshop Elements, which allows the user to specify a renaming
    convention on the fly.
    2. For some of the graphics, multiple files are created,
sometimes with different file extensions (both GIF and JPG show
up), and sometimes with additions to the file names (0001, 0002).
These multiple files seem to have smaller file sizes.
RLS correction Aug 17, 2006: This is not really what
happened. In one large file, multiple copy-n-paste operations
resulted in graphics files with similar, but different, names.
    3. I'm looking for a batch rename facility. I can open the
graphics files in the Files panel and rename by pressing F2, and
request via update option (on the General tab of Edit, Preferences)
that the referencing file(s) be updated. But this is slow when you
have more than just a couple to do. The batch rename facility I
wish for would both rename the files and update files that link to
    them.
    4. In Microsoft Word, when I do File, Save for Web (or File,
Save for Web (filtered) -- not sure of the spelling), I can click
the Tools button in the Save dialog box and select from a bunch of
different settings, including dpi etc. for graphics. Which such
setting(s) are used by Dreamweaver? I'm using the copy-n-paste
method because the File, Import method does not complete on my
    machine.
    5. Are there recommended steps to clean up Word first? For
example, Microsoft says that Word documents can be saved as RTF,
then re-opened, to clear up damage (see Microsoft Knowledgebase
article 826864). I found, for example, that creating internal links
in Word is faster than creating doing the same in Dreamweaver). And
I found that I should avoid the Dreamweaver option that preserves
styles. I want very simple output -- no forms, etc.
    6. Is there a way to compare outputs? Adobe mentions that
leaving off the final paragraph mark in Word can cause some
formatting to be lost. I'd like to do a paragraph-by-paragraph
comparison (I know that 's ambiguous because list items are treated
as paragraphs in Word but not in HTML.)
    7. To meet the request of a client, I want to preserve
highlighting in the resulting HTML (yes, I know, i'd be using the
<font> tag, but only so that the authors can quickly find
last-minute changes for review). I'd clean those <font> tags
out before going live. Can I fine-tune the HTML conversion process?
Again, my apologies for the number of questions. Partial
    answers are most welcome.

Basically, unless there's already an extension available to
    do all you want,
well, you'll have to hire someone to write you an extension.

  • Problem copying text from word to dreamweaver

    Howdy..
had a problem copying text from a word doc (07) to
dreamweaver, for some strange reason it missed a complete section
in the middle, 2 paragraphs gone... no errors... no blank spaces,
just would not copy and paste the section, everything b4 and after
was fine, the only way to correct this was to copy to
textpad/notepad first and then recopy and paste..
    anybody have any ideas ?
    anyone seen this happen b4?
    cheers
    Pythagonal

nope, there didnt seem to be any special formatting in the
word doc, just a straight forward press release, two of them
actually and they both had sections that didn't copy and paste.
what was very strange was it was sections in the middle of
the docs, and wasnt the same in both, was 2 different areas in
each, just when u copy'd and pasted it gave nothing..
and ive never seen anything like it b4,
ive just upgraded to CS4 a few weeks back and this is the
first time ive noticed it, ill keep my eye out and see if its
somethng to do with the way word is formatting stuff..
    cheers

  • Moving site from Muse to Dreamweaver

If a website is written in Muse, what is the procedure for moving it to DreamWeaver?

    Hi,
You need to export the site as HTML from File > Export HTML. Once exported, you can open it in DW.
PS : You can't import the site back into Muse after making the changes in DW.

Unfortunately, this is not a web page.  It is a design comp exported from Fireworks.  This code is not good enough for use on real web sites.
You need to de-construct your design comp images in Fireworks.  Optimize and save images only to your DW Local Site Folder.  Then re-assemble everything inside a pre-built CSS Layout in DW.

Also, As well as the links below - another way to learn (including anyone else's bad habits) is to find a page you like, and then tell your web browser to show you the code view for the page and/or do a "Save As" and save the page to your computer to then copy & paste code segments into your file (in IE click View at the top, select Source from the options)

  • No Page from Template in Dreamweaver CC

Using DW CC, new file doesn't bring up a page from template option. My site templates show up when I click Site Templates but there is no Page from Template option! Any suggesstions? I've reinstalled it once but no difference.
    TIA

    thewiseguy,
I thought that I was the only one hanging on... It's not like Adobe is the only one having problems with WYSIWYG editors. Same all round. NSA and any number of other spooky causes come to mind, but the reall problem is the sophistication of new browsers, new desktop hardware, rapid revolution from desktop only editing to inclusion of just about every connected device out there; and the numbers of connected devices is expanding far more rapidly than any ever expected, with players like China's and India's diversifications now only 10% there but expected to engage as fully as we are in less than four (4) years, and who knows where we all go from there.
But to make it all really simple for Adobe support, here in these forums where related questions are never tackled head on... kindly read this Wiki:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_editor
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_editor#Difficulties_in_achieving_WYSIWYG
Note: this article, while gaining focus, is as lost to the full extent of the incrementing problems as our sorry old-fashioned isolated editing device approach.
Now, Microsoft has retreated into Sharepoint big-frame corporate network publishing with VB and WebMatrix. While FP cum STUDIO only mangles Windows half as often as DW (it is their own OS after all), it's not much better, doing weird things like causing every application to save into ghost data dumps without user warnings until everything  system-wide is lost)... Far worse, Microsoft Studio problems get ported by the new Windows 8.1 account server from one Windows install to the next, EVEN WHEN DISKS ARE WIPED CLEAN WITH DISKPART! - And yes, Microsoft apps are more effected by this than 3rd party apps like CC.
Okay, so Adobe and Microsoft need to fess up BIG TIME! Everyone is having WYSIWYG web editing problems as OS drifts into some weird new rapidly changing dynamic security model that WYSIWYG can't fit... or can it?
I know you are feeling negative reading this, but full stop please! Look at that Wiki article, that does not include a link to WIX, http://www.wix.com/ direct code editing paying members only). Notice that all the 'modern' Mac and PC apps that work are raw code, text editors. WYSIWYG self-instaleld software is NOT keeping up excepting online publishing services. Since OS's are rapidly becoming impregnable isolated SECURE devices, we need an ONLINE DREAMWEAVER CC web publishing service. Check out that cute Wix link. Now fill that with CC richness. YOU GET IT, FINALLY! CC has to transition into an online publishing presence. Along with PS (eg, http://pixlr.com/editor/) and everything else DREAMWEB!
Where is it? When is it coming? Yes Please! A.S.A.P.
    PLEASE!

  • Using HTML file from Photoshop in Dreamweaver (Was: Help.....Newbie Here)

    Hi
I'm new to dreamweaver. I know a bit of photoshop and wanted create a simple  website using photoshop and dreamweaver. I created a layout and sliced out the different parts and when saved as web, it created a set of image files and a html file.
Now when I placed this html file in dreamweaver, everything got right just as I created in photoshop but when I tried to place an swf file on an image which was sliced out from the photoshop, the other images (sliced on photshop) get scrambled in dreamweaver. I tried everything but I can't understand how to place an object Even while placing text on an image file, the whole layout gets scrambled.
Any help please. I want to place a swf file and also write a heading "radio player" above the swf file on an image in dreamweaver.
    Thanks

Slicing the design from Photoshop will give you 'image' output - this is very bad practice. You're only supposed to slice design elements & use CSS to put them together within a webpage.
I'd recommend you take some time out and go through this tutorial before continuing to work - http://net.tutsplus.com/articles/news/slice-and-dice-that-psd/
This will give you a quick walkthrough of how you can re-create the PSD design using CSS for building a 'proper' website.

  • Getting passwords from Keychain into Dreamweaver

Hello, I had a trial version of Dreamweaver CS4 on my Mac, and when I unsinstaled it I had some problems with CS3, so uninstalled that but reinstalled it. Now all the account infor for all my sites are gone from CS3. I still see them in the Keychain and they are still assigned to Dreamweaver, but I Dreamweaver doesn't show them. How can I import them into Dreamwaver? Don't want to fill in all the details by hand again!
    Thanks!

I didn't try it that way, I went to Safari->Preferences->Passwords and was able to access it there. It's good to know about the keychain app, too. I'll probably use that more than the Safari method.
Keychain is coming closer to replacing Roboform. There is still the issue of cross-platform compatibility that I need to research, plus storing other types of data, like I use made up answers for bank and other security questions and store them in Roboform.
