From Indesign3 postscript file to Adobe Acrobat distiller PDF?

i'm trying to prepare a book file created in InDesign 3 to go directly to a printer. I created a Postscript file using the Printer's specs. When i converted the file to a pdf in Acrobat 8 and check to make sure all the fonts are embedded, about half are and half aren't. All the fonts i used, (like Georgia bold) are on my system but it doesn't show up as embedded. I'm stuck and have no idea how to embed all the fonts in InDesign or in Acrobat.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

The major advantages to exporting PDF for print are that you can leave transparency live in the PDF for flattening in the RIP, and all fonts with proper permissions (except CJK) will be embedded automatically.
If your printer insists on a distilled PDF, possibly because he is using older equipment that can't handle transparency correctly, or worse, he's imposing in Quark, you can save some headaches by printing to PDF directly from ID. If you have Distiller, you probably have the PDF virtual printer installed, too. It's really just an automated way of printing to file and sending to distiller, but the interface is a bit friendlier, and it's one step instead of two.
In the print dialog select Adobe PDF as the printer, then click setup and find the printer properties or preferences (the dialogs are a little different, I think, on Mac and PC). You should be able there to set the joboptions to the printer's custom set, or edit them if necessary to be sure all the fonts are embedded.

There are many different Acrobat-related products.
    Acrobat Standard
    Acrobat Pro
    Adobe Reader
LiveCycle (actually this is another separate enterprise oriented Acrobat family of products.
Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro will each install several software programs on your computer. One of which is Acrobat Distiller. Acrobat Distiller is a program that is used to convert postscript files into pdf files. Acrobat Distiller used to be the only way to create postscript files. Now many users never use Distiller to create pdf files, hence its prominence is deminished.

I was able to register it though.

Not a surprise. The Acrobat 8 product family passed into End of Support back in 2011.

  • What is Adobe Acrobat Distiller and how do I download a trial version.

I need a PDF creator/ Convertor for Microsoft Publisher files. Files are then to be sent to commercial printer. Although I can save the file as pdf from within Microsoft Publisher but sometimes there are problems with the Output, transparencies and PNG images. I saw a guide about commercial printing on the web where Adobe Acrobat distiller 3.0 was recommended for commercial printing. I have browsed Adobe website but could't find. Is it part of Acrobat 9 or so?
    Any advice will be helpful.
    Thanks

Yes, Distiller is part of Acrobat and not free. Download the trial and then decide whether it's worth buying for your purposes...

  • Adobe Acrobat Distiller Process. Issue with Font(L0420P not found, using courier)

    Hi Everybody,
We are working for upgrade activities, which involves moving applications from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 Servers.
My applications uses Adobe Acrobat distiller, which is also getting upgraded along with the server from Adobe 4.0 to 5.0 (Installed licensed Adobe distiller).
I have been using Adobe distiller to convert .PS files into .PDF files. The conversion process requires the PSFonts such as (MB006, L0B, L0420P etc..), each font got a separate PFB and PFM extension files, which are kept in the folder name called "Psfonts" and has been included in "Font location" under Distiller settings.
Using Distiller( Adobe Acrobat distiller 4.0 ) in Windows 2000 didn't create any issues or error while converting .PS files into .PDF files, all the PDF files are generated by Distiller as expected and process without any Font issues.
In Windows Server 2003, I installed Adobe Acrobat distiller 5.0 and moved the Font Folder "Psfonts" from older server(Windows 2000 server) to the new server(Windows 2003) and started Adobe Acrobat distiller process(5.0) to convert .PS to .PDF, most of the .PS files gets converted into .PDF files but when .PS files which require the Font L0420P comes in for Distilling, it displays an error message as "L0420P not found, using courier".
I checked with the old Server's (Windows 2000) font folder (Psfonts), it has the same files(PFB and PFM) as present in the new Server(Windows 2003).
I tried to check the Particular Font name(L0420P) in Distiller-->Setting-->Job options-->Font-->Embedding-->Psfonts, but L0420P font alone is missing in the List.
Could you please help in resolving this Font issue.

You may like to try deleting the PsFonts entry from distiller and closing it. Restart the machine, make the entry of PSFonts agina and try creating PDF.

  • Unable to edit PDF files in Adobe Acrobat DC

i am unable to edit a file in adobe acrobat dc i have tried with multiple files and everytime i click edit pdf it get a pop up that says adobe acrobat dc has encountered an unknown error however i have been able to edit a few pdf's i tried everything from re downloading a new file to saving it in acrobat reader and nothing is working please help

    Hi imadb,
Since you have the Acrobat Pro DC 30-day trial, please try opening that to edit your PDFs (rather than opening them in Reader, and clicking the Edit PDF button).
If you search your computer, you should have both an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and and Adobe Acrobat Pro application. They can coexist, but it does make things a little confusing.
If you want to evaluate  Acrobat Pro DC, it's best that you open it directly. That way, you can get the real "lay of the land" with Acrobat before making any purchase decisions.
    Best,
    Sara

I am able to use Acrobat using a wireless router.
    Try the following:
Get the latest update from Manufacturer. Then go to printer setup utility and remove the current version. ( Do this anyway even if the same version).
Next plug Printer into a direct USB Connection. Now install Driver. Go back to Printer Setup Utility. and add Printer.
Now print a document, to verify printer works.
Now quit application, then shut down Computer.
Now switch usb printer connector from USB connector on computer to USB connector on your router.
    Restart Computer.
Now open an application that uses a printer and open a document. go to Printer and Look for the Following:
Disregard the printer I have listed here that's my printer. If you see a Printer like this add to list by choosing the printer.
Now go to Printer Setup verify it has been added. Make it the Default printer.
Now Acrobat "should" be able to print from you printer.
(Please note information is given by an Experienced User of Acrobat. I am not an employee of Adobe.)

Very strange!  What is your installed Reader version?
Try disabling Protected Mode in Adobe Reader [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Could not write to file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroPDF.NOR. ?

Hi, I get this message (loosely translated from Swedish):
"Could not write to file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroPDF.NOR.
Confirm that you have access to this file"
when I try to install Acrobat standard 7.0, and after several "retry" I cannot finish the installation.
    Does anyone know why?
    Thank you,
    MIa

Appears that you are on a Win7, 64-bit machine. AA 7 has an issue with activation since the server no longer exists for AA 7. There is a separate install at Adobe to address this issue that might solve the problem temporarily (Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3). Even if you get AA 7 installed on Win7, you will have to do workarounds to make it work. Both the print driver (Adobe PDF) and AcroTray.exe fail on Win7 and they require workarounds to be able to even use AA 7. It is strongly recommended that you get AA XI at this point.

  • This file requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to support tracking functionality

All PDF files uploaded to our Adobe Connect Content libraries (hosted) are displaying a window with the message "This file requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to support tracking functionality".  I have 2 hosted accounts and both have this issue (which started today). We were upgraded to version 9.1 over the weekend also. Is anyone else seeing this and do you know of a resolution?

Update: We have not been able to confirm whose update (MS or Adobe) caused this issue, but the  one of the resolutions (enabled Reader Add-on) has broken something else.
Enabled add-on: Enabling the Reader add-on resolved the issue of not being able to view PDFs, but now prevents the PDF from opening in the application. Instead, it now opens in the browser, which causes links on the PDF to open the linked file in the same window. That results in the return of those end user support issues. http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html
Reader: In some cases, enabling the Reader Add-on did not resolve the issue until Reader was uninstalled and/or reinstalled.
We hope this information helps others.
Does anyone know how to get rid of the Adobe Advertisement that now appears in all PDFs that open in the browser? Note: It does not appear in all versions of Reader (e.g. Reader 9)?

  • Playing inserted avi files in Adobe Acrobat 9 or later

A user has inserted avi files into Adobe and it always worked up to version 8.1.
Any version later than that, the avi files will not play anymore.
Is there any way to make them play or will all his files need converted to another source?
Converting them all to a different format would be quite the task as there are many videos involved.
    Thanks, Jeff
