From iPhoto 2 to iPhoto 6 in one leap?

I've probably had iPhoto in my iMac for several years, but I've never tried to use it because of techphobia. Today, however, I decided to give it try, since I have always found David Pogue's books to be informative and easy to follow. Anyway, I soon noticed that what I was seeing on my screen didn't match the illustrations in his book. Further investigation revealed that I have iPhoto 2 while Pogue's book is referring to iPhoto 6.
My question is simple: Can I just download iPhoto 6, or do I have to do it in stages? In other words, do I have to download and install iPhoto 3, then 4, then.... I'm no computer whiz, but I've noticed that some programs have to be updated in stages, and some can skip the intermediate stages. How about iPhoto?

I don't remember reading your comments before. Either I didn't give them sufficient attention, or I never knew that they had been posted (I wish this site still informed posters when their postings have been answered). In any event, I did what you warned me against: I bought iPhoto 6 without finding out what the requirements were. Unfortunately, one of the requirements was OS 10.4, which I don't have. I guess I'll have to wait until I buy my next iMac, because I'm not going to buy OS 10.4 now. Thanks for attempting to warn me, anyway. Oh, there was one interesting thing I found. I found two iPhoto discs in with my OS X discs. I think one of them was for CDs and one for DVDs (I don't that understand either). Anyway, neither of them worked. I can't remember what the computer said, but it acknowledged my attempt to download iPhoto, but said I couldn't do it for some reason or other.

IMovie doesn't import all movies from iPhoto - at least one solution

I noticed that iMovie 08 imported my movies from iPhoto, but strangely not all of them. A quick search of the support forums indicated many others were having the same issue.
After comparing file attributes of movies that were importing successfully into iMovie versus movies that didn't show up, I found that a rogue character ("&") was preventing iMovie from importing the file properly.
Renaming the title in iPhoto does not resolve the issue, since the file name (in Finder) remains the same. However, if I make a copy of that file outside of the iPhoto Library, rename it in Finder, then re-import it back into iPhoto, then iMovie will see it. I didn't rename the movie file inside of the iPhoto Library for fear of corrupting the library structure.
I found this to work at least with my .avi files. I still have the same issue as everyone else with iMovie not importing .mpg files that play properly in iPhoto.

Good thinking! The only way to change the filename in iPhoto is to export the movie file, import it back in, copy over comments, keywords from the old to the new movie, and then delete the old movie.

How do I sync from iPhoto from only one computer?

I have my iPhone set to sync Music, Ringtones, and Video from my G5. Podcasts, PIM info, and Photos are set on the Macbook Pro. Well, that's the idea.
For some reason, iPhoto is an AND instead of OR - that is, if I set to sync on my MBP, it is set to the same on the G5 (and vice versa). If I uncheck on one, it's disabled on both.
Any ideas?

OK you can leave them in iPhoto and access them from the iMovie Event for iPhoto.
If you prefer to move them to a regular iMovie Event, you can do the following.
1) right-click on one of the iPhoto clips and select "Reveal in Finder". This will open a finder window showing the clips in the iPhoto Library.
2) In a different Finder window, create a folder to hold your event in iMovie. If you are using an internal drive, create a folder using your desired Event Name under the Movies/iMovie Events Folder.
Note: If you are using an external drive, create a Folder called iMovie Events at the top level of the external drive. Then create the (Event Name) folder under this. The external drive must be formatted as MacOS Extended (journaled) for this to work.
3) Select all the clips in the iPhoto finder window that are part of this event and Move them to the Movies/iMovie Event/(Event Name) folder.
4) After you have done this for all the Events, open iMovie and let it generate thumbnails. This may take a while.

IS there a way to load and purchase different photos from iPhoto and ship them at the same time? the only way that I can find is to purchase each photo (or multiple of one) at a time, which increases the cost of shipping, as I want to get one print of 20

Sure - easiest way is to make an album for photos you want to order and drag photos to it - when it is complete open the album, select all and order

I am moving all my iphoto pictures to seperate folders outside of iphoto. I have found iphoto slighlty cumbersome. After I move all pictures from iphoto to a separate file how can I delete all the iphoto photos without deleting the ones in the file?

If you Control click on the iPhoto Library, you'll see a list of folders - one named "Masters". Inside of this folder are all of your original, high-res photos. You can copy them to other folders if you like.
You can't delete iPhoto pics without deleting the ones in the iPhoto Library.
You can copy all of your Masters pics out of the Library, ensuring that you won't forget any.
I don't know of anyway to determine if there are duplicate photos - most (if not all) have a unique name assigned.

Open Time Machine to the date that you know the iPhoto Library is in the format you want and select and Restore it.

I had a similar problem in that my wife's iphone 5 could not send pics with imessage. Had to set the settings to default to SMS or whatever. After laboring many hours on the web I coincidentally was on the phone with the internet people to question my internet speed. They changed the router channel, which is something that I am capable of doing myself. After that, the pics go over imessage. My own Iphone didn't have the problem. We are both latest IOS 7.0.6.

Printing borderless 4 x 6 photos from iPhoto on HP C7280 All-In-One?

I'm trying to help a friend with a printing problem and can use some help.
My friend uses a Macbook Pro running the latest version of OSX. He has a Hewlett Packard C7280 All-In-One as his printer.
My friend Joe likes to print 4 x 6 borderless photos from iPhoto but can't seem to make it work. Each time he tries to print a 4 x 6 borderless photo the photo comes out on 8.5 x 11 paper. The filled photo paper tray does not engage. He has "told" the printer that he wants 4 x 6 borderless on photo paper by making the appropriate selections.
This problem does not occur if he prints the pictures using HP Printing Solutions, the photo management application that came with the printer. When he uses the HP application he gets what he wants, 4 x 6 borderless prints.
I suspect that there is some setting currently unknown to us that needs to be adjusted in either OSX or iPhoto to enable us to print 4 x 6 borderless pictures in the same way we can with the HP photo management application.
Can anyone help?

I don't have any HP, I use Canon, but if I give you the steps I need to take from iPhoto 09 to print borderless 4 x 6, then you may be able to apply this to your friends printer.
In the iPhoto 09 print dialog, I need to select:
Printer: Canon MP980
Presets: Photo on Photo Paper
Paper Size: 4"x6" (borderless)
Print Size: Borderless
Now when you press Print, the print dialog will appear. Here I have to select Presets again and set to Photo on Photo Paper. I then change the iPhoto menu to the Canon quality menus to set additional information about the image quality. Now it is ready to print.

Before I downloaded Lion every time I would upload a pic from iphoto there would be two files. One that was 1.8MB and another that was 50KB. Now I can only find the 1.8MB one. Did this option disappear with Lion?

two files would show up in "images".
Do you mean in the All Images search in the Finder?
IF so:
1.Never interact with photos that are in iPhoto via the All Images Search. This does not understand the iPhoto Library and it's very, very easy to damage the library this way.
2. What you were seeing was the original file you imported and the thumbnail created by iPhoto for viewing on the iPhoto Window. That thumbnail is not designed for user access.
What are you trying to do ultimately?

One doesn't.
Simply, sharing video via email is not advisable.
Many email services have an attachment limit of 20mb and some a limit of 10mb. As emails are sent through an array of relays, the effective limit is the smallest file size allowed on any of the relays. That means that video is rarely suitable for emailing.
Then there's the whole issue of Codecs and not all machines will have the codecs to play all videos. Plus, folks with slower connections can find it very inconvenient to download large video files.
Finally, sharing video from iPhoto via email is not supported. All that gets you is the Movie thumbnail. If you feel you must share via email then you'll need to export the video first, and attach that. Use the File -> Export command and set the kind to Original.

Other than that your options include:
Upload it to a sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo and email a link - these will allow the recipient to view the material online. That will avoid the codec issues mentioned, and the person can still download the video file if they wish.
Upload it to sharing services like Dropbox or YouSendIt and email a link. This will require that they download the material to their machines to view.
