From iphoto-- LR. photos missing!

Clicked and dragged a group of photos from iphoto to LR. LR can't find the original files and they are gone from the iphoto library. Any thoughts?

iPhoto conceals the photos locations. I would not expect a drag and drop to work due to Apple's shenanigans here.
You can use the new Aperture/iPhoto importer in LR 5.7.x or this much older method: Moving Your Images From iPhoto to Lightroom — Lightroom Secrets

  • Migrating from iphoto to photos - missing years of pictures

Updated to Photos application yesterday.....   When I opened it, I noticed all photos from 2000 - 2010 were GONE!!!! The previews still showed in the Photos app, but the original master was not in the library any more so I could not export the photos or email them.
Subsequently did a time machine reset, but since time capsule is only 1TB apparently overnight a new backup of my photo library had been done (50.000 pictures) and time machine was forced to purge the old library. So, the backup was useless.   By going back in time machine I also lost the previews that Photos had cached, so now literally thousands of photos are forever lost....
    Very, very, very disappointed.

Creating a Photos library should not have damaged the iPhoto library. All those photos should still be in the iPhoto library (assuming managed files, the usual case). Launching iPhoto should work (after an initial warning) and show them all.
Also, if backing up your photo library (either one) causes Time Machine to flush the previous version immediately or even overnight, your Time Machine volume is not large enough. The sizing guideline for the Time Machine volume (either a Time Capsule or a regular external drive) is usually quoted somewhere around three; that is, the Time Machine volume should be three times as large as the used space on the volume(s) being backed up at a normal level of update activity. A higher ratio allows more look-back at a given activity level or more activity with the same look-back period.

  • When my photos were moved from iPhoto to Photos in the last system upgrade, they lost all their titles. How can I restore them?

In the latest Yosemite upgrade, my photos were migrated from iPhotos to Photos and lost all their titles. How can I restore them?

There is an Applescript, File Name to Title,  provided by user léonie that will put the file name of any selected photos into the Title field for that photo.  If there already is a title in that field under the thumbnail it will not replace it with the file name.
    tell application "Photos"
      activate
set imageSel to (get selection) -- get a list of selected images
      set counter to 1
      set currentfilename to ""
      if imageSel is {} then
      error "Please select an image."
      else
      repeat with im in imageSel
set title to the name of im
      if not (exists (title)) then
set currentfilename to the filename of im as text -- retrieve the filename of image "Im"
set newname to currentfilename & "." & counter
set counter to counter + 1 -- increment the counter
set the name of im to newname -- write the newname to the title field
      end if
      end repeat
      end if
return currentfilename -- return the filename of the last image
    end tell
Copy the script above, open Applescript Editor and past it into the open window.  Compile and save as an Applescript application.  Put the app in the Applications folder and drag into the Dock. Now you can select images in Photos and launch the app from the Dock and it will do it's thing.  It is a bit slow so can take some time for a large number of images depending on the speed of your Mac.
Just to be on the safe side create an album with a few titled and untitled photos and run it on them.

  • Apple tv can't find my photos since I switched from iPhoto to Photos

I recently switched from iPhoto to Photos on my imac which is running Yosemite 10.10.6. and since then my Apple TV version 2 can't find my photos.  Also, the taskbar on Photos is nothing like they show in the description.

Have you changed your Home sharing settings in iTunes from iPhoto to Photos (iTunes > File > Home Sharing > Choose Photos...)

  • HT204414 how to merge my iPhoto Library into my Photos System Library or how to import photos from iPhoto to Photos?

Can anyone tell me how to merge my iPhoto Library into my Photos System Library or how to import photos from iPhoto to Photos?

How many did you trash at one go? iPhoto will baulk and possibly corrupt if you try trash too many at one go. Expereinced users recommend getting rid of them in batches of about 100 or so.
What's your plan for the remaining images in the iPhoto Library (the 2k photos and 4 videos)?

  • HT1338 I have added photos from iPhoto into Photo Stream and enabled my iCloud but I can't see any uploaded photos. Does this sound right?

I have added photos from iPhoto into Photo Stream and enabled my iCloud but I can't see any uploaded photos. Does this sound right?

Enable PhotoStream in iCloud first, then add the photos to PhotoStream in iCloud. Of course, you will need PhotoStream also enabled on your other devices also in order to view them.

  • HT201317 how do I drag photos from iphoto to photo stream?

how do I drag photos from iphoto to photo stream?

Simply select the photo or photos you wish to add to photo stream from the album you are viewing and drag them onto the photo stream listing under the 'recent' heading on the left-hand side of iPhoto when you see a blue box surrounding the listing drop the photos you have dragged.
Alternatively, select the photos and use the 'share' button in the bottom right corner of iPhoto and choose photo stream from the list that appears.

  • Will Apple add the "Batch Change" option from iPhotos into Photos?

Will Apple add the "Batch Change" option from iPhotos into Photos?  It appears to be a major complaint across the board and a severe limitation.  I see complaints about this all through the forum.  Apple?

We have no idea.  But to help them make that decision tell Apple what additional features you want in Photos via both http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html and http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html  since they don't have a feedback page for Photos as yet.

  • I upgraded from iPhoto to Photo and my pictures are disappeared ?

I upgraded from iPhoto to Photo and my pictures are disappeared - why ?

My question was so long, so I narrowed it down
I can't open my photos via Photos, and I made sure that they are on my Capsule - so I (think) I have them. But I can't import them to Photo.
How do I open iphoto Library with Photos?

  • I lost all my photos when I upgraded from Iphoto to Photos

I lost all my photos when I upgrade from Iphoto to photos, can I get back? please help

You need to provide more details about what happened.  But, here is something you can check.
When you run Photo and it converts your library, it doesn't delete the iPhoto library.  Look in your Pictures folder - you should see two libraries:
iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary (this is the original iPhoto library)
Photos Library.photoslibrary (this is the new Photos library)
You should still be able to open the original iPhoto library.  The iPhoto application was not deleted from your computer.  (It was probably removed from your Dock if you had an icon there.)  Look in the Applications folder, find iPhoto, and run it.  It should show your original library with all your original images.
It is always a good idea to back up your photos (and the iPhoto library) before trying these migrations.  Problems do occur...
    Hope this helps.

  • Missing photos after migration from iPhoto to Photos

Last week I upgraded my desktop MacPro from OS 10.9.latest to OS 10.10.3. When I first opened Photos, it did the migration from iPhotos without apparent problem. But I have noticed that many (hundreds at least) of the photos from my pre-migration iPhoto library are now not in Photos. I mounted my pre-upgrade backup drive on a laptop running OS 10.9.latest, and can find specific missing photos OK on the backup. But if I search the main drive on my desktop Mac, for example for "P1440608", I get no results. I have tried rebuilding the Photos library with no change - the missing photos are still missing.
One option is to erase my MacPro main drive and restore from the backup drive to OS 10.9.latest. This should put me back to where I was. Is there a viable alternative? Please note that my iPhoto version was 8.1.2. It will not open in OS 10.10.3, and the App Store will not let me upgrade to the most recent version. I do have Time Machine plus external bootable (SuperDuper) backup of the desktop MacPro, plus that laptop running OS 10.9.latest as resources available.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto 08 - Photos missing

I just realized many of my photo in my default album show as missing. When I open my iPhoto library in finder I find all the photo missing but aliases in the folders. Can anyone give me an idea what may have happened?
    Thanks,
    Bob

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • How do I continue a migration from iPhoto to Photos that was interrupted part way through?

I began a VERY large migration (40k+ photos) from iPhoto (v9.6.1) to Photos on an external hard drive.  I have a MacBook Pro with Yosemite 10.10.3 that is connected to a network that has a Synology network drive.  The iPhoto library is on that drive and I was wanting to create the Photos library also on the drive.
The process was very slow and has taken days, but that is expected and it was definitely making progress (I could see the files being added over time). Unfortunately, the transfer was interrupted part way through (my kid closed my laptop, which disconnected it from the network). I tried to start it over with the partially created Photos library folder as the destination, hoping that it would pick up where it left off.  It worked until it reached the same files that were previously created. The migration stopped at that point, and the following error appeared: "Photos was unable to make a copy of your library before preparing it. There were file system or hardware issues…”  I assume the inability to overwrite previous files with the same names was the case of the "file system or hardware issues."
Is there any way to either continue the migration from where I left off, or maybe even manually move the rest of the files over? Or do I have to wipe out the entire partially migrated Photos library and start over?

You probably will have to start over
And I suspect that you are incorrect - as far as I know NO NAS is formatted Mac OS extended - A NAS is basically a Linux computer with no display or keyboard that uses a Linux format drive - a headless computer
Unless you have a directly connected drive correctly formatted you are cgoing to continue to have issues - your photos and your choice what risk you put them at but you are treading in very dangerous water with you set up - is it documented not to work and similar set ups have been reported here hundreds of times as causing major problems and losing lots of stuff

  • Color off when printing from iPhoto if photo was scanned in.

When I scan a photo to a file or into an application and try to print from iPhoto, the colors are off. Usually darker than they appear in the photo. If I do a direct print from the scanner to the printer the colors look normal (OK). Any idea if there is some type of adjustment for this?

What color profile do the pics have? Is the printer set to the same profile?
