Try the WMP codecs from Flip4Mac.
For future questions, you'll be more likely to get quick and accurate answers if you ask in the QuickTime for Macintosh forum.

  • Putting music from Media Player into iTunes???

So....I just recently bought my Nano. I have lots of songs on my computer (that I put on there from my CDs) in Windows Media Player 10. When I connected to iTunes (to put music on my iPod) some of my previous songs from Media Player were put into iTunes, yet there are still LOTS of songs not in the iTunes Library. And I don't think that they didn't transfer because they are "protected", it has to be something else. I've tried dragging, copying, nothing is 'allowed'. I've gone to about every window, menu, and help/support site in both iTunes and Windows Media Player. This is almost a last resort.
Thank you SO much if you have ANY information at all!!!

I'm having the same problem, can someone help us?????

  • Transfering music from media player to itunes

I am having trouble transfering music playlists from my media player to itunes. I have tried the 'add a folder' and 'add a file' options and when I click it nothing happens. I have also tried moving the playlists to different files and tryig to add the folder and files and have also been unsuccessful. I have also tried to 'open playlist in itunes' but still does not transfer. It rips CDs ok but can't find a way to transfer music.

Have you tried creating a fresh media library in iTunes or re-installing iTunes? MP3's should not be a problem at all as you might suspect using a "MP3 player"

  • Transfering MP3 library from Media Player to itunes music came but not art

I transfered about 30mb of mp3 encoded music from my Media Player library to iTunes. The software said it was reading the artwork but nothing appears in iTunes. Is there something else to do beyond letting iTunes read the library?

    Hi there,
I believe that unless iTunes has imported the music itself then it will not be able to get the album art automatically.
If you have all the artwork in the folders then you may have to go through each song and add the album art to it.
Remember you can highlight more than one song and use Get Info to add album art if they are all from the same album.
    Hope this was helpfull!

  • Downloading iTunes into PC that has music in folders from Media Player....

I downloaded iTunes into a PC that has LOTS of music in files from Windows Media Player and other music software. Download went fine...and then, the music started to import from those files...
and ALL of it copied twice into iTunes...
I did note it copied from the original files AND created an iTunes library.
How can it get it NOT to do the the songs twice?
I have since uninstalled iTunes and deleted the iTunes library.

    Hello there,
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes.
It all depends on if you have a Mac or PC with how you copy your music over. The first link after the Apple support document below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your new computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer." From there, restore your iPod and sync it with your newly enlarged library.

  • Importing from Media Player

I'm terrible with computers...I have my entire music library on my windows media player and now want to switch everything to iTunes.  How do I go about this?  I did read somwhere that any files I import will only be copies - the original to remain wher it is.  Is this true?  Won't that mean that I then have 2 music libraries?  Won't that take up unnecessary space on my computer?  Seems there should be a way to use one app or the other, right?
    Thanks for any help

It is possible to end up with one set of tracks (i.e. files) shared between iTunes and Windows Media Player but you will need to do things a certain way to achieve this. First we need to go over some things to prepare the way.
While iTunes can import MP3, AAC, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV, and WMA, it cannot use WMA (it has to convert them) and even WAV and AIFF will have certain drawbacks in this scenario. You also need to indicate whether any of the music in your Windows Media Player library is protected by DRM. We will assume for the moment none of your tracks are protected by DRM.
So out of the list of formats above, we really can only consider either MP3, AAC, or Apple Lossless. You then need to decide whether you want the best possible audio quality or you are happy to accept a lower quality but to make life a bit simpler. If for example all your music is from original audio CDs and you want to keep the full quality of the original audio CD then you should choose to use Apple Lossless. Therefore suitable formats to use are Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV, or WMA (lossless). Of these the only one that can be fully shared with no problems between iTunes and Windows Media Player is Apple Lossless. As I mentioned earlier AIFF and WAV have drawbacks in that WAV does not support using meta-tags, and WMP cannot read meta-tags in AIFF files. It is however possible to get WMP to read meta-tags in Apple Lossless files.
So, if your music is coming from CDs you should use ideally Apple Lossless. If your music is currently in WAV or WMA (lossless) format you will need to convert it to Apple Lossless, this is possible with various Mac or Windows utilitities, but you may find that it is going to be just as easy to reimport in to iTunes from the original audio CDs.
If however your music is currently in a lossey format like MP3, or AAC, or WMA (lossey) then for MP3 or AAC keep it in the same format as currently, and for WMA (lossey) iTunes when it imports the tracks will convert them to AAC and should also convert the meta-tags.
So you will eventually end up with all the music in iTunes in either Apple Lossless or MP3 or AAC format. Windows Media Player 12 (for Windows 7) can play MP3 or AAC as standard but needs a little help to play Apple Lossless. To add Apple Lossless support to WMP you need to first install a suitable DirectShow filter written by Milenko Mitrovic at my request and based on a solution I devised. Due to Windows 7 moving to a new style of codec, I find the easiest way to do this is to install the Shark codec pack for Windows 7 as available here http://shark007.net/win7codecs.html and then activate the support for Apple Lossless.
In theory that should be all that is needed as Apple Lossless uses the same file format as AAC, the same file extension as AAC, and the same meta-tag format as AAC, which WMP12 already supports. Unfortunately Microsoft willfully sabotaged things. We therefore need to also install a plugin for WMP12 which will trick WMP12 in to accepting Apple Lossless files as if they were AAC files. See http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=75123&view=findpost&p=75 9658 and download the beta version of WMP Tag Plus.
With both the Shark codec pack, and the WMP Tag Plus plugin installed, WMP12 will be both able to play Apple Lossless and to allow adding Apple Lossless to the WMP music library, and be able to read the meta-tags from Apple Lossless files, including embedded artwork.
So we have now (in theory) got all the music in iTunes in a format that will also be compatible with WMP (MP3 or AAC or Apple Lossless), we have if needed added Apple Lossless support for WMP. The final thing we need to do is to get WMP to use the same files as iTunes. Ideally you start off with WMP being empty, you then simply tell WMP to add the iTunes music library folder and it will add them to its library without having to copy, duplicate, or convert the tracks. It should even in theory automatically spot new tracks when added via iTunes and add them automatically as well.

  • Using songs from media player as ringtones on x3

i have transferred some songs from my pc to my phone but cant seem to set any of them as a ringtone, the songs on the phone are originally from my cd collection.
is it possible to set as rington? if so how??
    please help

The ringtone search should find all compatible file types from anywhere in the phone, so there should not be an issue.
However, it does depend on the format - the X3 can only use Midi, MP3, AMR, AAC, eAAC+ and WMA files as ringtones, whilst thre are other formats that the phone can play in media player (including M4A, WAV etc.) which cannot be used as tones, so if the music is in a non-compatible format for tones it won't be found.
Also note that some DRM-protected audio files are prevented by their DRM from being used as tones.

  • Airport Extreme, can't see usb disk from media player

I have a WD hard drive (formatted in FAT32) connected to my Airport Extreme. I can access it from my MacBook and I can see it under disks in Airport Utility. When I try to access the drive wirelessly from my Merlin media player (that's connected to my TV), the drive doesn't show up under the Airport Extreme Workgroup. I should mention that when the drive is plugged into my MacBook, I CAN access the drive on my media player under my MacBook's Workgroup. So I'm assuming the issue is with the Airport allowing the drive to be seen, and not the format of the drive itself. Can anyone help?

By default, when you enable "File Sharing" in the AirPort Utility, your AirPort Extreme will share out an attached USB HDD with either Macs or PCs.
To access the shared HDD from a Windows 7 PC:
Start > Computer > Map network drive
Drive: <use default or select a drive letter>
Folder: \\<AirPort's Base Station Name or IP Address>\<HDD's Volume Name>
User name: <Enter Base Station Administrator name>
Password: <Enter Base Station Administrator password>

  • Cant add any file to itunes from media player

i have tried dragging songs into library and tried using the add to library option and nothing at all happens, the songs play fine in media player... please help!! very frustrated

I assume that you mean the Windows Media Player.
Well, if those files are in .wma format, AND also Protected. Then iTunes can't handle them. Unprotected .wma files can be imported/added to iTunes - however iTunes needs to convert them to either .mp3, aac, aiff or apple lossless. (Depending on your import settings)

  • Media Playback With Windows Media Player and Quicktime

I just bought a mac book. Is there any way to have quicktime not the default player or to have it bring out the video from the safari window. because there are some sites that i go to and it just starts playing quicktime inside the browser video but i want it big in its own window. and is there anyway to just have the video play without the download box come up and just have the video play in whatever player without manually going to the hard drive and choosing which program to open the video with? thank you for any help
    MacBook 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Microsoft AVI with codec set to None.
Or you can install the free Lagarith or UT codecs.  Both work very nice with PP.  Both use lossless compression, so you won't lose any quality, but will get smaller files (especially when using a YUV mode).

  • Saving iMovies in Media Player or QuickTime so that other people can view

    Hi all -
I have no problem creating iMovies... but I'm the only one that can view them. How do I save them as WMPlayer or Quick Time movies so they can be viewed by other people??

When you use the default Share Options (Share to iTUnes, Share to Media Gallery, etc. these are quicktime files and anyone can view them (but they will need to install the free Quicktime Player.
You can also Share/Export Using Quicktime if you need specialized settings or more control over options.
