Who got this brilliant idea and change thing that way :  when you want to pick up a contact on your iphone, you first have to cross the group and then click end ? Did you hire an employee from Microsoft ? Apple MUST remain SIMPLE to use !!!

Claudius, either you didn't read my post, or you jumped to conclusions. I had a skype account that was created using a microsoft account (NOT THE ACCOUNT I AM USING NOW). PURE MICROSOFT ACCOUNT NO OTHER ACCOUNT LINKING.I had to change the primary mail of that account.I was told "no can do" by skype support.I found that if I went to account settings and clicked on the link on the line below the one that said "MICROSOFT etc" (labeled something along the lines of "TV or Device") I got the opportunity to set the password of the "live:username" account (WHICH YOU COINCIDENTALLY HAVE TO DO IF YOU WANT TO USE SMART TVs ETC).Once that was done, I COULD SUCCESSFULLY DO WHAT SKYPE SUPPORT SAID WAS IMPOSSIBLE- I could change the primary mail address. once that was done, and NOT BEFORE, I linked the account to a facebook account as well, just to be sure I have more than one way to access the skype account. What caused you to get the impression that I was writing something else? furthermore this sentence - "The solution you described in your initial message isn't actually once since all the time you were operating on different account that weren't actually linked" does not make sense, I think you mis-edited it.and I need to point out that you are incorrect. I WAS NOT OPERATING ON DIFFERENT ACCOUNTS I WAS OPERATING ON ONE SKYPE ACCOUNT, THAT WAS CREATED USING A MICROSOFT ACCOUNT just like you say you recommend. I still don't know how you can misread my initial entry like that.  If you have a better solution to my initial problem - changing the primary mail of a skype account created throuth either a microsoft account or a facebook account, Please write a sticky to explain how to do it, and please inform skype support that Yes it can be done, and this is the way it is done. So far my "lucky shot" seems to be the only way to do it.

  • Considering Small Business move from Microsoft to Apple - desire feedback

I am considering migrating my organization of 130 users from the Microsoft stack (Server 2003/2008 with XP workstations) to Apple. I am interested on real world feedback on the following issues:
    (1) What online resources are there for planning a staged migration (e.g. domain controller, then file server, then mail & collaboration?)
    (2) When would you recommend phasing in Apple client machines? Should I have all the servers replaced first or will SL clients and SL Server play nicely with Windows AD?
    (3) With all .NET apps, we will run Fusion or Parallels at first, but I want to migrate apps from Office 2007 to Google Apps. Any voice of experience pro or con?
    (4) I am leaning towards Google for mail/calendaring/collaboration, but SL Server includes mail/iCal/iChat - recommendations?
    (5) For web hosting, I know SL Server comes with the AMP stack so should I expect to use Apple's tools for administration or go with MAMP / MAMP Pro?
Thank you for your recommendations and experience

    (1) What online resources are there for planning a staged migration (e.g. domain controller, then file server, then mail & collaboration?)
I'm not aware of a server migration document off-hand.
Server environments tend to vary, too. Widely.
Check with the Apple Business folks as a start. They might have something here.
    (2) When would you recommend phasing in Apple client machines? Should I have all the servers replaced first or will SL clients and SL Server play nicely with Windows AD?
This is going to be a substantial project, no matter what. You can configure to play nicely, for instance, but that's differently than a native environment, for instance.
    (3) With all .NET apps, we will run Fusion or Parallels at first, but I want to migrate apps from Office 2007 to Google Apps. Any voice of experience pro or con?
Microsoft .NET is platform-specific. You need Windows or maybe Mono for applications with a dependency on that, or a port to native applications.
If you go the route of Google or other large-scale slices (and there are folks that offer fully outsourced as well as slices), then look to how you're going to manage and maintain and archive it. Make no mistake, you'll want a stable archive of your data somewhere that doesn't involve the vendor you're working with; locally, or at another provider that's not associated with your primary provider.
Typical user documents using Microsoft Office hauls across nicely into iWork, though there are any number of ways you can incorporate features and extensions that won't port across.
    (4) I am leaning towards Google for mail/calendaring/collaboration, but SL Server includes mail/iCal/iChat - recommendations?
That's your call. Both work. If you're running your own server, you get to own the IT costs.
    (5) For web hosting, I know SL Server comes with the AMP stack so should I expect to use Apple's tools for administration or go with MAMP / MAMP Pro?
Again, that's your call. If you're getting going and don't need (for instance) a php rebuild or some other widget that's dependent on the innards of Apache, then the integrated stack will have a wider audience for you should you encounter questions.

  • Why can't I copy from Microsoft 2011 Word to apple postage stamp email?

Why can't I copy from Microsoft 2011 Word to apple postage stamp email?

You probably ended up purchasing a Mac OS X 10.6.3 DVD. I have posted previously about this. I will edit this once I find the post again.
10.6.3 is incompatible with the Mac Pro you are using. You must install the version that came with your computer or newer. (Yours came with 10.6.4)
If you do not have the original discs:
There is another way to do this that I just remembered when one of my co-workers asked me if I had a 10.6.6 disc.
You need two macs: NEW and OLDER.
Connect NEW and OLDER via firewire cable. (NEWER is probably firewire 800, so you may need a firewire 400-800 adapter or cable)
Boot NEW into "Target Disk Mode" by holding down 'T' at boot until the Firewire logo (looks like a Y) appears.
Boot to Install Disc in OLDER.
Once you have booted to the install disc, it is the same process as installing it onto the internal drive, except you need to choose the Drive in the other computer as the target drive. The drive that you want to install to will look like it's a firewire drive (so it will look like a mounted usb drive but with that 'Y' symbol on it.)
MAKE SURE NOT TO INSTALL OVER THE GOOD DRIVE!!!!!
Go ahead and install Mac OS X.
Once it finishes installing and OLDER shuts down hold down the 'Option' key right after the chime. Select the drive that you just installed Mac OS X on. It should appear just as it did in the Installer.
Once it has booted and you have logged in: run software update and update to the latest version of the OS. Once you have finished updating, shutdown the computer. Unplug the firewire cable. Turn off NEW, then turn it back on. It should work properly.

It sounds to me that you are migrating from a PC computer to a Mac.
To the extent that you are using Microsoft Office on your PC, you should just purchase Microsoft Office 2011 for your Mac.  All of your Word, Excel and PowerPoint files should open easily in Office 2011.  Your contact/mail program, Outlook, is now also supported in Office 2011, but I personally have no experience in cross-platform data transfer for Outlook.  Somewith with cross-platform Outlook experience, please jump in!

how do i sort out error r6034 on my windows vista when i try to start itunes ???
the message box is from microsoft visual c++runtime library, it says an application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly, P;ease contact the application's support team for more information.

    Hey deepakmenonfrompune,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with iTunes for Windows. The following article outlines the error message you are receiving and a potential resolution:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
Some Windows customers may experience installation issues while trying to install or open iTunes 11.1.4.
    Symptoms may include:
"The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer"
"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows Error 126)”
"Runtime Error: R6034 - An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly"
"Entry point not found: videoTracks@QTMovie@@QBE?AV?$Vector@V?$RefPtr@VQTTrack@@@***@@$0A@VCrashOnOverf low@@***@@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\WebKit.dll”
    Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
    1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
    2. If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    3. Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
    1. Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
    2. Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using theMicrosoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    3. Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I've been beaten by the Pro (a rant from a loyal Apple user)

I purchased a MacBook Pro thinking that I would have the same wonderful experience I have had with both my Mac Mini and iPod. I was wrong.
    So far:
    1) The battery has been recalled. I assume the issue is severe enough (i.e. PowerBook) to warrant a return. I am waiting for the new replacement.
    2) The unit buzzes annoyingly. My first call to support stymied the rep as evidenced by his "who knows?" response. Conversation with Tech Support today required me to help troubleshoot location of noise before sending in. Isn't the fact that this has been documented by Apple enough to warrant a return? Since I could not locate the source, I will have to take it in and leave it at the store. If possible, I will leave it there for good.
    3) The new chipset is sporadically supported by 3rd party plugins, specifically those from Microsoft. Goodbye video news feeds, and any review of my own multimedia work. (Apple's tech support referred me to "Flip4Mac" - but wait! - this 3rd party has not yet released their plugin patch, so keep waiting... For years, video card (and other hardware) manufacturers have jumped on non-compatibility issues created by popular software for which they are not responsible. THEIR engineers create a patch. Apple seems to take an opposite approach: so what if our hardware is non-compatible? The customer will just have to hang around long enough, hoping someone else comes to their rescue.)
    4) I spent $2,000 on a device that has LESS internet functionality than my $499 Mac Mini. So far I have a nice looking, very fast word processor. (That is, as long as Microsoft continues to support Office, since Apple currently does not offer a replacement for Office. Apple's party line is that Pages and Front Row are "companions" to Office, not replacements. I would agree.)
    5) Apple has no software that allows a laptop and a home-based Mac to automatically synchronize documents (ala PocketPC, or PC docking stations). This is a glaring ommision. iSync & .Mac only synchronize app data, not useful things like Word documents or spreadsheets. Crucial tools for business travelers.
I don't have the luxury to spend this type of money for limited value and a monolithic response from Apple. Either Apple can get it together and resolve issues PROACTIVELY on behalf of their loyal customers, or watch support for their Intel products erode.
As for me, I cannot afford to wait for Apple's success at my expense.

    Some answers to your....questions(?)
    1) They are replacing the battery? The rest of what you're saying is a bit unclear.
    2) I'd call back and speak to someone else. Refer them to the knowledgebase article telling you to call.
    3) Flip4Mac universal plugin has been out for a few weeks. Windows Media is a closed format produced by Microsoft. Compatibility is actually Microsoft's responsibility not Apples. Apple tends to support open sources and opens it's sources up to the wider base. The hardware is perfectly compatible - you can easily install windows and run windows media player on it. The issue is the Microsoft will not support WMV on Mac OS sufficiently. You might as well say that Apple should take it upon themselves to release a universal version of Adobe Photoshop.
    4) I'm not sure what you mean by less internet functionality, unless you are still talking about Flip4Mac - which incidentally also worked under Rosetta before the universal version came out.
Pages and Keynote are actually pretty good. Microsoft have said that they are committed to supporting Office on the Mac in the future. It runs well on my machine at the moment and there are some open source alternatives out - Open Office and Neo Office amognst others. I think Open Office is awaiting a universal binary, but if your complaint is that Microsoft has a Monoloply on the business software market then I'd agree. A good reason to make alternatives to Microsft work for you.
    5) Can't comment on this. Surprising if true. I would have thought that there was some software out to do this.
It strikes me that you seem to expect Apple to be able to do everything - make the hardware and all the software you might ever need. The problem is that there is no computer or software company on Earth that does this. Apple produces more and better hardware/software combinations than anyone else - Microsoft/HP/Dell. - and in any event, doing so would stifle 3rd party development and innovation and probably lead to Anti Trust action like Microsoft have faced in the past and currently in Europe ($300million+ fine).
I'm not by any means an aplogist for Apple, and I appreciate that you're a bit frustrated by your experience, but I can't say that your expectations are entirely reasonable. It seems that Flip4Mac will solve some of the issues you are complaining about.
You could run Windows in parallels or Bootcamp to plug some of the other compatibility gaps you face, or find work arounds. If you want 100% Windows style compatibility then Windows is the only way to get it at the moment.
Anyway, I hope it works out for you.
    Best of luck.

  • HT2392 import iCal from Microsoft Outlook

The iCal prommpts me to import "Entourage" but does not allow for Outlook 2010?  How do you import from Outlook 2010?

    Greetings,
I'm thinking you mean Outlook 2011 as Microsoft called its calendar and contact manager for mac "Entourage" until the release of MS Office 2011 (which included Outlook 2011).
Saddly, Outlook 2011 does not include an option to export its calendar content as .ics files which is the calendar standard used by iCal.
However, Microsoft does allow you to sync your information to iCal.
Before doing any troubleshooting I would recommend backing up your data (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553).  Calendars and contacts tend to be important to people and are complex in nature which increases the chances of mishaps.
Make sure you have installed all software updates from Apple by going to Apple > Software Update.
Make sure you have installed all software updates for your Microsoft software (Open Outlook and then go to Help > Check for Updates).
Restart your computer (Apple Menu > Restart).
Now you can sync Outlook calendar content into iCal following this article from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2452489.
    Hope that helps.

I accidently uploaded ALL my Contacts to iCloud. This removed them ALL from Microsoft Outlook Contacts. How do i get them back to Outlook Contacts?

    Hello there inkystephens,

Yes, its tells you how in the User Guide: http://support.apple.com/manuals/#iphone
    Have you not read it?

  • Cannot open certain files from microsoft

I get e-mails from friends from Microsoft users. usually attachments of a "folder" file. It seems I cannot open these things which is very frustrating. Have adobe acrobat reader. Still cannot open? What can I buy or download so I can open these files?
Also if i get the new imac with windows will it be easier to open these things??
That is a problem between Mac and windows users cannot always open attachments. Cannot predict who sends me what so i cannot tell them how to send it so MACS can open?

You cannot open a Powerpoint document without some software that knows how to open them, so even if you were using a Windows PC, you could still not open Powerpoint documents unless you had Microsoft Office or some other program that understands Powerpoint documents. So no, having Windows running on your Mac will not help you open Powerpoint documents.
Keynote comes as part of Apple's iWork bundle, which includes Keynote and Pages. It costs $79. I have it, and it works great.
NeoOffice 2.1 can be downloaded for free, right now. What you saw on their website was only the Early Access program for downloading the next version, 2.2.1, which will be available for free to the public on August 27th. However, version 2.1 is available for free download right now. I also use NeoOffice, and it works great too.

  • Can I transfer files from microsoft word onto an IPad and if so how?

I am getting the new IPad and would like to transfer files from microsoft word onto it. Is this possible and if so how?

You can, but first you need an app on the iPad that supports the type of document/file that you want to copy to it - the iPad doesn't have a file system like a 'normal' computer, everything has to be associated with an app. As to how you then get the documents to your chosen app will depend upon what the app supports - different apps will have different ways of copying their content to/from a computer e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.
Apps that support word documents include Apple's Pages app, and third-party apps such as Documents To Go and QuickOffice HD
