From old "Address Book" to new "Contacts" - lost my groups

I have old 2009 laptop (Snow Leopard) and just bought new 2015 13" macbook pro running Yosemite 10.10.2
I transferred my Address book over to Contacts but lost my groups.
Instead it is showing my Yahoo mail folders on the left hand column.
I use the groups a lot for work and really hope I don't have to recreate all of them.
Thanks!

My mistake - my groups are there! They transferred perfectly. Still getting used to my wonderful new machine. Sorry to bother you!

  • Transferring info from old address book to new Mac

    my subtopic ought to be 'writing a subject heading that relates to the question I want to ask'. That question was;
    Can anyone help me?
My last iMac died and I've got a new one. I've also got the hard drive from the old iMac, but when I try to open things from it, such as the address book, the new version opens and I can't find a way to get at the info that is in my old address book. I want to e-mail friends to tell them that I'm back on-line, but I can't get at their addresses. Advice received with thanks.

The Address Book data is stored at the following location - Home > Library > Application Support > AddressBook.
With the Address Book application quit on your new iMac, transfer the AddressBook folder from the old hard drive and place it in the same location on your new hard drive at Home > Library > Application Support.
This will replace the existing AddressBook folder in this location.
Launch Address Book and all contacts from the old drive should be completely restored.

  • Import contacts from old address book on MacBkPro Snow Leopard into new MacBk Pro Lion

How do I import my contacts from old address book on MacBkPro Snow Leopard into new MacBk Pro Lion (on MacBkPro Retina). I can see the "AddressBook" file on the old HD (extracted from old machine--which died) and have a copy of that file on to desktop of new machine. [Copied from old HD: Users/home/Library/Application Support/Address Book]. There is an Address Book in the same location on the "MacIntosh HD" of the new machine, but some of the files in that (new) folder have different names. Risky to simply over-ride this. What should I do?

My mistake - my groups are there! They transferred perfectly. Still getting used to my wonderful new machine. Sorry to bother you!

  • How to import from old address book?

Hi all, I've searched the net about my problem but with no result.
I have an old mac (a G3 iMac running 10.3.9) with a lot of contacts on its Address Book, and I do mean a lot. The computer is completely dead, but I have a copy of the contents of its internal hard disk on a new mac running Lion. My problem is importing the old contacts into the new Address Book. The file formats have changed and the old files can't be imported into the new application, they are not even recognized as addressbook files. Obviously I can't export from the old system since it's not running. The old AddressBook.data file is a terrible junk of names, addresses, telephone numbers and everything else organized in an incomprehensible way (I can't just manually copy the addresses from the file). Does anyone know how to import those contacts into the new format? Otherwise, I'll have to find somebody who owns an old system with an old Address Book application so that I can export the files from there. Thanks a lot

As it's been 3 months, you probably have resolved this by now, but I had a similar problem today and resolved it with help from a tech at the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store.
If you ever backed up your "Library" folder from your old Mac, it contains the "Application Support" folder which in turn contains the "Address Book" folder.
On your new iMac, running Lion:
    1)open Finder
    2)select "Go" on the menu
3)with the "Go" window open, press and hold down the "Option" key on your keybord. Doing this will expose the hidden "Library" folder.
    4) in the Library folder you will find "Application Support"
    5) in the "Application Support" folder, you will find the "Address Book" folder
    6) assuming you have the old "Address Book" folder from within the backed-up "Library Folder" from you old iMac, delete the "Address Book" folder on your new iMac and copy your old backed-up Address Book folder to the "Application Support" folder in its place.
    7) Open the Address Book application and you should see your contact records.
I just finished doing this and it worked for me.
    Cheers

  • Can't recover all contacts from old address book

My ibook was dying so I dragged everything over to an external hard drive. The guy at the Apple store assured me this would back up everything other than the applications. Now I have a new hard drive in my computer and can't for the life of me figure out how to get all of my addresses imported into my address book. I've tried replacing the "Address Book" folder in Application Support (there was no such folder on my new hard drive) and tried importing from Address Book but it has all of the "plist"s greyed out. Now I read about doing a separate process for backing up your address book but I didnt do this. Can I still recover my old addresses since I have a backup of the old drive in its entirety? Please help!
    Thank you in advance.

With Mavericks you won't get the Info tab, you use iCloud to sync contacts - from http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12117 :
If you use OS X Mavericks v.10.9 or later, your contacts, calendars, and other info are updated on your computers and iOS devices via iCloud. For more information, see iCloud Help at icloud.com.

  • Sync all fields from Mac Address Book to iPhone Contacts

You would think that all the fields entered in Address Book would sync to iPhone Contacts. I have fields for "spouse", "assistant" and some custom fields like "skype", "blackberry", etc, which do not get transferred over to iPhone.
I migrated from Entourage/Palm to "all Mac apps" to resolve this problem and now have fewer fields available than before!
I want ALL fields sync'ed over to my iP3G!
Anyone have a fix for this?

I have a problem similar to DeeRun's.. I would like the IM fields to be synced.. I use them to send e-mails to when the e-mail field is empty or when i just want to use that specific address.. Very annoying, would take hours if not days to transfer all those IM adresses to e-mail fields in addressbook..
EDIT: not to mention the mess it would make in my address book!

  • Address Book – Feedback which contacts in which groups

Context: I am looking into my Address Book in Lion. Left groups, right contacts
    Action: I select a contact
Idea: Wouldn't it be neat if I would see in which groups this contact resides? Please give me some feedback!

My wife's mac mini suddenly had one 'No Name' card in it, and it was causing problems, after clicking on this card, it showed the 'apple' entry ( the apple company contact details) and every card then showed tha 'apple' entry. Sometimes it would show the contents of whatever card I clicked on next.
I could not delete this card, backing up did nothing. Today I selected all cards and exported them to the home folder. Then deleted the Library/Address Book folder and all contents.
I started up addressbook and imported all the contacts from the exported file, including the 'no name' entry. I deleted the 'no name' card and, so far, everything is fine!
Hope this helps with your problem.

  • Address book - finding a contact's associated group

    Hello!
Question for the community. I'm going through my address book at the minute. I've got the latest version of Lion and everything's all pretty much up to date.
When selecting a contact, is there an easy way to see which group I have assigned a particular contact for? All the help I can find are for previous versions of Address Book.
    Thanking you kindly,
    Pete

Highlight the contact and then hold the Option key down.  The groups it's a member of will highlight.
    Regards,
    Captfred

If you are syncing using iCloud, try going to System Preferences/iCloud (computers) and checking Safari. If it is checked, try deselecting it, wait 10-15 seconds, and then check it again.

Why does Lion KEEP reversing changes you make in address book and other applications without your consent and without wanting it to??? Plus address book will NOT import old address book contacts from Snow Lepoard 10.6 and keep them.  This Lion OXS 7 is .. becoming very frustrating ... it will NOT keep changes made in the Address Book and it has destroyed my contacts which I only have electronically since 10.4 in my address book. I am NOT happy with this OS7 it has a lot of issues and faults.  How can one stop automatic reversing of data when inputting???
    Please help!
Wished I NEVER upgraded to this Lion!!!

Relax. Your address book database is corrupted.
If you are syncing your Contacts with MobileMe or something else, disable it for now.
Backup your address book by going to File>Export>Address Book Archive.
    Quit Address Book.
Open your Library by holding down the Option (alt) key while selecting the Go menu in Finder. Select Library. Navigate into your Application Support/AddressBook folder and delete the addressbook-v22.abcddb file.
Open Address Book. It will recreate the database from the raw data.
See how that works. If it is ok, then reenable syncing and see how that works.

  • HT4918 contacts are missing from my address book on my mac but are on my ipad, both have icloud

contacts are missing from my address book on my mac.  they remain on my ipad.  I have synced my ipad.   i have removed contacts from address book on my mac and then re added them.  still missing.  how do i fix this

    Start by answering the questions.
Picking up old contacts where - are you referring to the email address autofill feature when addressing an email?
Did you transfer the backup for your old iPhone to your new iPhone?
Are you accessing an email account on your iPhone that provides over the air syncing for contacts such as a Yahoo account, Gmail account, or a MobileMe/iCloud account?
I am seeing contacts that I know are at least a year old, and current contacts in my Macs address book are not being sync'd up.
Does this mean syncing contacts with the Address Book on your Mac is not selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes? If so, has this ever been selected with your new iPhone? Deslecting this after it was selected does not remove contacts from your iPhone.

  • I am using Mail with OS 10.9.1...I used to be able to drag and drop contact addresses from my address book to an e-mail header.  Now I have to type all the names and can't drag and drop.  Is there a setting for this?  Thanks!

I am using Mail with OS 10.9.1.  I used to be able drag and drop names from my address book into the address header, but can no longer do that.  I now have to type each name in.  Does anyone know if there is a setting for this or is it a feature of the updated software?  Thanks for any info!

Yes, that appears how Mavericks works right now. However, you can open the Address Panel, select all your contacts, then click the To (or CC, or Bcc) buttons to move the selection to the address field.
If it is not already in the Toolbar, right-click on the Toolbar and select Customize Toolbar…
Then, drag the address panel up to wherever you want it.
You may also want to add it to the New Message window in the same way.

  • I had to do a re-install of Thunderbird after a crash. How do I get my old address book into my new one?

I had to do a re-install of Thunderbird after a crash. How do I get my old address book into my new one? There are only a few of the contacts I had, so there must be a location where the rest are, but not sure where to look. And once I find them (with your help), how do I get them into the address book?

If you copy abook.mab or history.mab into a profile folder, they will show up as Personal Address Book and Collected Addresses. But if the mab files have names other than abook or history, they can only be imported to TB with the use of [https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html MoreFunctionsForAddressBook].
