From pages to pdf?

How do i save a flow chart I created in pages into a pdf? i can't figure it out

Whatever you can print, flow chart or anything else, can be produced as a pdf file. The way to make pdf files is the same in every app, not just PAGES. You don't SAVE (or SAVE AS) a pdf, you PRINT a pdf file, using the PRINT dialog. You'll find that option in the bottom left corner of the print dialog.

  • Problem with exporting and printing from pages to PDF

I have a problem with my Pages
My font will not be embeded in my pdf files.
I have saved as a ps file and in to the destiller and my fonts are missing.
I need to send my file to the print shop but they will not accept my file and i now understand why.
    fonts are missing...
    Is there a workaround.
I have no problem in Indesign or quark but pages.....
    I need help
    thanks a zillion

The font is coming from a notation software Sibelius 4 and is namned opus
Hmmm ... Sibelius is a music notation software and notations are marked up in MusicXML. Presumably the font file is an SFNT with TrueType splines, but it is probably not installed in OS X system folders - rather in an internal Sibelius application font folder. So presumably you do not see the font in FontBook and OS X font auditing does not apply to the font.
Sibelius exports EPS files, right? If memory serves, an EPS is still legal even if the font resource is not embedded. And in any case, we know from the behaviour that the font resource is not embedded for some reason. So how do you get Sibelius to put the font resource inside the graphic ... normally there is a button in the EPS export procedure that gives you the option to Embed All Fonts.
You do not seem to get this button, though. Or why else would you not have checked it already and the problem would have gone away already.
The next point in troubleshooting this is that you are not following the path that would let OS X detect that an external font resource is not embedded.
    I go from pages-print-printer- acrobat Pro 8-save as Pdf-x
What you are doing here is telling Pages to tell OS X to generate a PostScript program within which is nested your Encapsulated PostScript program with the call to an unresolved external font resource.
So why does Acrobat Pro not detect the unresolved external font resource? Hmm ... did you try the Preflight option in Acrobat 8 Pro? It should provide information on unresolved embeddings.
I have also tried pages-print-printer- acrobat Pro 8 and save pdf as postscript and put the postscript file in destiller 8 pro with defalt setting high quality print
The whole problem with EPS and PS is that this sort of situation is possible in the first place (plus, what is worse, the PS program can include custom additions to the graphics model that then fail in the PS interpreter whence Apple GX normalizing, Adobe Distiller normalizing, and Apple Quartz normalizing). You want to get as far away from EPS and PS as possible, believe me.
So, you have not done what I posted that you should do in the first place. If I were you, I would first get rid of the problem that the EPS is making a call to an external font and then get rid of the problem that the PostScript is preserving the external call.
To get rid of the problem that the EPS is preserving an external call, simply open the EPS in Apple Preview which includes a NORMALIZER for EPS/PS, and then save out the graphic as PDF. Alternatively, if you don't trust Quartz for some reason, set up a hotfolder for Distiller, make sure the option to embed all fonts is enabled, and convert the EPS to PDF.
Now replace your EPS in Pages with PDF in Pages, and don't save PostScript to disk but save PDF to disk through the proper procedure which is File > Print > PDF > Save as PDF/X [for your custom configuration of the PDF/X-3 filter considering that no sane person in North Europe prints lowend US SWOP, we use ISO].
If you begin by telling OS X that you want PDF within which fonts are supposed to be embedded ALWAYS, then you have started the right way. Otherwise, you have not told the operating system what you want to do, and this then leads you into places where you are unlikely to have the expertise to troubleshoot problems.
So, forget placing EPS in the first place, place PDF. And forget saving PostScript to disk, save PDF to disk. If that does not sort your problem, here is the dirty solution for professional prepress.
Adobe Photoshop has an EPS rasterizer that has wide tolerances for poor PostScript programming (so does Adobe Illustrator 6 and higher by the way).
Therefore, if an EPS is posing problems, one workaround is to rasterize the EPS at high resolution in Photoshop and place that high resolution PDF in your layout.
Take care that you rasterize as 1 bit at the required resolution of the print provider, probably 2450 dpi. When you save the 1 bit as PDF, Photoshop automatically compresses to a very, very small file (don't be surprised if 15Mb compresses to something like 0.5Mb).
Rasterizing in Photoshop should not be necessary if you simply start by telling the operating system what it is you are trying to do. Then the operating system should be able to take the right decisions for you, and tell if you if finds problems it cannot resolve without turning to you.

  • Export from Pages in pdf and word

    I made a report in Pages (05) (only 4 pages long) with a few photographs and exported it into a Word file because I needed to print through Microsoft (using a usb stick); Microsoft could not open the file; the same problem with this file exported in pdf (Adobe Reader); also on my own computer the Word program does not open the file (office 2004 for Mac); the pdf works fine;
    after installation of iWork 06 the problem remained the same;
    other files from Pages, from the past wich I saved in Word, don't have this problem; opening is not a problem;
is there a special reason for this one file to cause problems??
    thanks, Dag

    I've checked the foto's and their info once more, and there all in .jpg;
in fact, I 've opened the same template again, imported one of the same foto's and exported it in Word,.....no problems!!!
I guess it stays a mistery, any way many thanks for your reply,
    greetings, Dag

  • Exporting document from Pages to PDF repeats the same picture throughout the document

I am creating a 4-page newsletter in Pages, and the final page has a series of jpeg photos (six of them) dragged from iPhoto onto the document. The photos are then given a Picture Frame and a shadow. I then save the document and choose FILE - EXPORT, choose PDF with an image quality of "Good". On the resulting PDF file, the first of the six jpeg images repeat in the locations where the other 5 should be. So I get a page with the same picture repeated 5 times.
    Any suggestions?
I have tried changing the image quality to "better" and it exhibits the problem there as well. Note that it works fine if I choose File-Print and then save a PDF, but that results in a 65mb or larger file, and I need it to be as small as possible to email.
    Pages '09 (v4.1)

Do the images have the same name? if so change the names before adding them to your Pages document.

  • Why are the colors flat converting from pages to pdf

I am working in Pages, creating color flyers and need to print in a PDF format.  After exporting from Papes to a PDF format, my colors look flat and dull.
Why is this happening and can it be corrected?

Most likely you have original images which are RGB (Red/Green/Blue) the color of the glowing pixels of your screen.
A .pdf converts those to cmyk (Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black) the colors of a printer. These are reflective colors and do not appear as lively or wide a range as RGB.
There is considerable skill and art to making images look their best in print, I suggest you investigate color management and color correction of images.
The results can be improved by color correction, but ultimately it also depends on the printer and quality of the paper stock. The end result can never look as good on paper as it does on screen, but you can get closer.

  • How can I export comments and tracked changes from Pages to PDF?

    Hello,
I would like to know how I can export my pages document to a pdf that still keeps the comments I had made in the pages version. I am using the latest version of Pages by the way.
    Thanks in advance...

Last week I printed a Pages '09 document to PDF and it carried over all the comments and marked up changes.  This week I foolishly updated to Pages 5 and it won't do this anymore.  If you need to print to PDF and get the comments in the document, you have to switch back to Pages '09, which I am doing tomorrow.  Cannot believe they gutted Pages like this.

  • Converting from Pages to PDF preserving bookmarks

    Hallo everybody,
I'm new in this forum site.
I've a big and complex Pages files and I want to create a PDF version with bookmarks architecture embedded in.
If I print or export the .pages file I obtain a .pdf file with the items in the summary converted in hyperlinks, but not the pdf bookmarks structure.
There's a way to create it automatically (put bookmars manually pre/post convrsion is not possibile)?
In case I have Acrobat Professional 8 also)?
If someone can help me, I'll be glad, thank you.
    /Gio

    Hi Gio,
Yes, you can use Adobe Acrobat Professional to add a Table of Contents to the PDF.
Or, you can use PDFOutliner, a $5 app on the Mac App Store, which makes it much easier to *automatically* build & edit the table of contents in your PDF.
Disclaimer: I am the developer of PDFOutliner.

  • A Way to convert from PAGES to PDF?

Is this possible? Can anybody tell me how?
    Thanks.

    kc,
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Sure, you can. Open your file in Pages. Under the File menu, select Export, then PDF. Or you can select File > Print, then click on the Print to PDF button. Either way works.

  • Corruption of weblinks containing '%20' when exporting from pages to pdf

When I export a document in pages to a pdf file, embedded weblinks which contain the code '%20' as part of the web address (which I understand to be HTML code for a space?) these are converted to '%2520' which then leave the weblinks unusable. Any ideas on how to fix this, is this a known bug in Pages?

Yes, %20 is code for space. %25 is code for %, hence %2520. I don't think this is just Pages having problems. It reads/translate what is written. I have seen numeral times in saved web pages opened again in browser. Sometimes the URLs work anyway and sometimes not.
My advise is that you change all %20 to space before saving. Can be done with the search function, Cmd + F in Pages.

  • Pages to PDF export and text not showing

I exported a pages document from Pages to PDF and I can not see the text???
Font is Tex Gyre Adventor and it is in the color white with a shadow and a tangerine box backdrop
    Thoughts? - Thanks!!

I'm not sure exactly why this happened, but I think I might have some reasons why.
Maybe try changing the color of your text to another color instead of white and see if that works. Or maybe try changing the background from tangerine to something else and see if anything changed once it is converted to a PDF.
Another reason is maybe you did it completely wrong when you converted it. I'll explain how to, incase you completed any steps incorrectly.
    1) At the top of your screen, press "File" then "Export". At the top, make sure the "PDF" option is selected and not anything else like "Word" or "ePub" or any of the other options.
    2) Select the image quality. Perhaps adjusting this to "Best Quality" rather than just "Good" will help in being able to see the white text. I don't know, just a suggestion.
    3) Press "Next" which should be flashing in a light blue color.
    4) Save your PDF where you want it and call it what you want.
    5) Now press "Export"
    6) Open the PDF document and see if anything changed.
Sorry if I haven't been much help but just see if that works.
Another thing I will suggest is to try printing it out and seeing if the text is visible and that might help out.
I'd also suggest, finally, start all over again with converting and follow the steps above, and see if anything changes.
Hope I could help, sorry If I didn't.

  • Image loses resolution when converting from pages to jpg

I created an ad for my son's yearbook in Pages.  It is 9MB but I need to submit as jpg.  The only way I can figure to do that is to convert from Pages to PDF and from PDF to JPEG.  However when I do this, it shrinks from 9MB to just over 1MB which is too low rez.  Can anyone help?  I'm on a deadline. Thanks!!!

OSX outputs pdfs at 72dpi if there is any transparency such as shadows, reflections, charts and of course directly specified transparency.
The jpeg is generated from a pdf and is the wrong method of producing an ad, which should remain text/vector to stay sharp, with photographic style images at 300dpi.
jpegs should only be used for purely photographic material because it makes everything else fuzzy.
Your ad should be supplied as a vector pdf. If it has photographic material do not use transparency effects and make sure the images are at least 300dpi at final size.

  • How to load a PDF from page 1 in IE

I am currenty working on a fllex based web application that needs to load multiple PDF documents. The pdfs are loaded and displayed properly but after the user scrolls couple of pages/ lines and switches to a new document, IE saves the last visit cursor position of the pdf document. On user revisit to the first PDF the IE loads it from the last cursor position.
I need to reload the PDF document from Page 1 everytime the user selects to load a pdf document.
Is there any setting in the Adobe Acrobat Page display settings or in the IE that would help me accomplish my task.
    Please respond ASAP.
NOTE: The pdf is loaded inside  an IFRAME.
    Thanks,

    > I have a feeling that removing the save button will not be possible.
You cannot remove the save button, no, but you can replace its execute method with something that, say, pops up a warning to the user instead.
    > Is there any way to just load the file using a URL?
The ActiveX control definitely loads a URL. See the "src" property of the ActiveX control. If you download the SDK, the ActiveView sample actually loads a PDF from a URL by default.

  • How do I delete some pages from an existing pdf file?

I have an existing pdf file that is too large to send to some people. How can I delete some pages from this existing pdf file, and break it up into two files?

You can download a 30 day trial at that link.
You may also be able to do it with CreatePDF, but I'm not sure.

  • How can I prevent Firefox from opening the file I create when I print a page with PDF Create! 5

After I print a web page using PDF Create! 5, Firefox opens the file so i can view it. Before I print, I select print properties and disable "view resulting pdf". However, the file is always opened in Adobe Acrobat, although I believe I have Adobe Reader set as default. I do not want any file to open. This happens on my non-privileged accounts. On my privileged account, the file is not opened. I have removed Firefox profiles, re-installed Firefox, Reset Firefox in Help-Troubleshooting. PDF Create!5 print screen can only be viewed in a host program such as Firefox, Libre-office Writer, or any other program that prints. They do not open the file either.

Thanks for your help. This is the Scansoft (Nuance) program. What I do not understand is why when I tell the print driver not to open the file with a privileged account, it obeys me. I am not sure where in the registry I would look for the information. I do not want to, but perhaps I should remove the Adobe Acrobat program (temporarily?) - then what would it do? Again, when I print from other programs - browsers, wordprocessors, etc - the file is not opened after printing, just with FireFox. I guess I can live with it, I have spent too much time already.

  • How do I link to an anchor point  within a web page from within a PDF

    Hello,
Can someone tell me how to link to an anchor point on a webpage from within a PDF?
I created a page in Word and when i add my url with the # to reference the anchor eg. www.google.com/web#test1 and test the link it all works fine. I then create a PDF of this same page however the PDF seems to strip out the URL and looks to reference a file #test1.
    Any suggestions, ideas?
    Thanks
