From sort of newbie with a video problem

Hello all... am attempting to launch a video clip
(.mov file..) in a new window by linking from an image. Click on
the image, it SHOULD open video clip in new window/page. It works
from the local site (on my pc) but not from remore server.... I'd
appreciate any help... please repsond to [email protected] as I will

Please help a newbie with a video render problem!

Im new to After Effects so please forgive if this is a silly question.
I have a Edge Animation with a background color of #ffa800
I have imported a video into After Affects which has a transparent background.
Research tells me that video is never really transparent so I am creating a solid layer in AE, placing video above it and setting the blend mode to "screen"
I now have a video with a background color of #ffa800.
However, when I export / render the video out and import into my Edge Animate project the background color of the video is off and does not match my Edge Animate background.
I have spent all day experimenting with different export options rendering direct from AE and also via Media encoder. Im now completely stumped.
I have also tried setting the video background to color #ffa800 and then masking my video. This saves me from having to use a blend mode of "screen" but I get the exact same results.
Could anybody please give me some tips on where I am going wrong please. The back ground is so close but either slightly darker or lighter depending on what I have set which spoils the overall animation effect I am attempting to create.

Without exact system information, render settings and so on nobody can tell you much. That aside, there are some fundamental failures in your plan. First, web colors mean nothing in AE or in most graphics programs for that matter due to the little subject of color management and possible quantization errors. Whatever colors you dial in, do so using the normal RGB sliders. Second, blending modes do not create transparency, even if for mathematical reasons the blending formula used may appear to eradicate certain colors. Third, you need to consider Gamma values. Video is not blending linear and both your computer screen as well as the video content itself may have a built-in Gamma. As a result, your blending operation could already produce wrong results like a slight haze, the encoding of the video file could introduce Gamma skew and then finally in the last step, whatever tool you use to display may apply dynamic corrections as well or in reverse, none at all. So it basically comes down to checking those things and properly calibrating/ adjusting your monitor and your system color settings and make use of color management in AE, if relevant. In the end, though, you will always see minor color deviations. It's inherent in how compressed formats like H.264 work. You can only try to minimize them as much as you can.

Need help with ipod video, problems with blinking screen, wont charge

Hello,
I'm a new owner of an ipod video, and I've had it for not even two weeks and haven't used it but 3 or 4 times, and I went to turn it on and nothing happened, so I figured the battery died. Then I hooked it up to the usb and computer (windows xp OS) and nothing except a fast blinking white screen and a low noise, not music though. It wont charge, and I even reinstalled everything and used all the tips online- any words of advice except to take it to an apple store?

Apple decided to hide the user library folder with OS10.7. You can get to it by using the menu.
Quit Illustrator.
Method one....
In the Finder choose Go > Go To Folder and type "~/Library" (no quotes) and hit OK.
Your Library folder will open.
Then navigate to ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings
Move that Settings folder to your desktop.
Restart Illustrator and try exporting again.
If it works as expected, you can trash teh Settings folder on your desktop.
Since you're removing preferences, items like Scratch Disk settings will need to be reconfigured in Illustrator if you've altered them from the default settings.
Second method.....
Hold Command-Option-Shift when you launch Illustrator.
Preferences will be removed.
You won't get any sort of dialog or window confirming this, it just happens.
Reason for two methods.
Method one allows you to put the settings folder back if yoru problem is not cured by removing it. It also allows you to move items back to the new Settings folder that is created (like Workspaces).

New T5i with a video problem

I received a new Canon T5i in the mail last week from Ritz Camera. At first everything seemed splendid; this was an upgrade for me from an old XTi and I've been practicing with this camera so that I can cover next week's NASA launch with it.
This morning while shooting video a problem suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Right in the middle of recording a video the video screen turned solid purple and began flashing. I stopped the recording shortly thereafter but the screen continued showing this problem until I took the camera off of movie mode. At that point I started up the live view mode and everything was fine. I returned to movie mode and everything seemed to be returned to normal, but the problem resembled sensor failures I have seen with other cameras in the past.
This greatly concerns me since I am supposed to cover the launch of the Orion capsule next week as an invitee to NASA's social media event. The last thing I need is for the problem to re-appear right in the middle of the launch. I do not know why this happened, what it means, or how to prevent it in the future. The camera has not been dropped or received any damage that I am aware of. It was shipped to me and appeared to be in good condition when it arrived but now I'm concerned that something may have happened in shipping to cause a loose connection or intermittent problem with the sensor. Does anyone here have any experience with this kind of failure and is there any fix for it? Here is a link to the video containing the problem. Welcome to the Canon Forum.
I looked at the sample video you posted and that is definitely not normal. It may be the image sensor, but it may also be something wrong with how the camera was recording the video to the memory card. I would try another card to see if that does not help. If the issue persists, the camera will need to be repaired.

First time Mac User with a video problem

Hi. First of all I am a brand new Mac user. I am having problems watching videos. It constantly plays for a second or two, possibly a minute and then stalls....I wait....it picks back up, plays for a second or two longer and repeats the process, so basically it is a very bad viewing experience all around doing this. I have all the software updates. I am a former pc user so trying to adjust to the Mac. I don't know where to begin on fixing this so if someone has any insight or could help it would be great.
I have also noticed it is doing the same start-stop activity when trying to listen to a 30 second music clip in itunes....start, stop, start, stop. So you never get a continuos listen to those clips or watching any video. Very annoying and there has to be a way to fix this, just don't know how to do it on a mac. Need a little help.

If you are using wireless, you might want to try plugging your computer directly into the cable or DSL modem and running the speedtest again. This will determine if it's a connection problem, or a problem with your wireless (possibly your router). I recently had a router go bad, and the only symptom was it was cutting the connection speeds in half, both wired and wirelessly. When I plugged straight into my cable modem I had full speed.
What is really strange is the disparity between your upload and download numbers. Usually, the upload is 1/10 of the download, not 2x larger. I've only seen this at work where they throttle our download speeds to 6,000 kbps to keep us from downloading large files for free on the wireless, while the upload speed runs 20,000 kbps. At my home, for example, I have 4,000 kbps download, and 400 kbps upload.

Getting a Sequence back from an S-P with typed DataSet problem

I know there are loads of topics about sequences on this forum, but I can't seem to find this exact issue amongst them.
As a learning exercise, I've created a typed dataset based on the HR sample database tables Departments and Employees (through the use of the hack to get an OracleDataAdapter to generate typed datasets).
I currently have a problem with retrieving the new sequence value from the 'Insert_Department' stored procedure I've written, and the best thing I can figure is that there is a clash occurring between the type and size of the sequence and the size of the department_id column (number(4) - which maps in .Net to an int16).
The exception I get on running the dataAdapter.Update() method is:
Unable to cast object of type 'Oracle.DataAccess.Types.OracleDecimal' to type 'System.IConvertible'. Couldn't store <330> in DEPARTMENT_ID Column. Expected type is Int16
The record does get inserted into the database ok - therefore I infer that this is a problem with the handling of the return value back to the DepartmentsDataSet column.
My stored procedure is as follows:

I've tried lots of different things here; I started declaring the parameter as a NUMBER, now it's set to a %TYPE on the column as you can see... and I've also tried assigning the NEXTVAL to a NUMBER(4) local variable before assigning it to the OUT parameter.
Here's the C# that configures the insert command:

The key line is the adding of the "new_department_id" line where I have tried many different types in the vain hope that I can somehow override the conversion process to not think it needs to go as large as a Decimal type.
I wonder if anyone could help point me towards the (probably obvious) thing that I am missing? I've run out of ideas on things to try!

However, this and the related link you posted raise a question: Given that (in the case of Decimal types) whichever of the DbType or OracleDbType property you set, the other value is set to Decimal also... what setting in the OracleParameter records which was the 'set' property, and therefore, which type will the Value be set to?
In other words, does anything visibly change in the debugger view of the OracleParameter type to see this?

My first guess is you're simply generating an error. You'll always want to load this on your device in quick debugging over USB so you can see any errors you're generating.
Outside that, if you plan on accessing anything inside the SWF you should be loading the SWF into the correct context. Relevant sample code:

If you're doing this on iOS you'll need to stripped SWFs if you plan on using any coding (ABC) inside the files. You mentioned iOS so I won't get into that here, but just incase, here's info on stripping external SWFs:

Having problem with online video, problem only in firefox

I had an update to Firefox recently, and since then online videos (expect for some reason YouTube) are no longer working, so BBC iPlayer is not working, and other random ones you come across on various websites.
I have updated Flash, and Firefox, even reset Firefox, but still they are not working.
I get a "This content doesn't seem to be working" message, on iPlayer and similar on the other websites, its not iPlayer itself, as it works for me on IE.
Dont know what is going on with my Firefox TBH, because some of my ad-ons have stopped working recently, and its to the point where I might as well be using IE.

the plug in are not missing, they load, but the content itself does not play, just says that the content does not seem to be working, which is not the case in other browsers. Plugins are also update to date, I did mention that I updated flash, and nothing I can see which looks like it maybe causing a conflict.
Add ons are not the problem, as the reset has uninstall those anyways, and half of them were not working before hand anyways.
I have also done a system restore, which has not fixed it, as I have had an error with Office 2013.

New Mac Mini with Lion Video Problem With Dell E228WFP monitor

Just purchased a new mini Mac 2.3 with Lion pre installed. I connected to my old Dell E228WFPI monitor via the Mini Display to VGA adapter. The mini mac worked fine for an hour until I put it to sleep. It would not rewake. After rebute the gray screen and apple logo appear with clock, but after clock screen to black and monitor goes to power saver mode. Took unit to apple store twice and could not resolve problem by changing resolution or other methiods. Finally, we learned that the system works fine using Belkin HDMI to DVI cable. This Dell Monitor had DVI connector. Hope this helps...

How can a computer that's been turned off (and I mean completely OFF) get a network request? Only a sleeping computer should react to such a request. If you're sure you shut down (Apple Menu, Shut Down), then only an internal power supply or logic board problem should cause this. The only way it could be software is if Lion is not shutting down the computer but is instead putting it to sleep. Is it a new Mac Mini? If so, you should have it replaced or repaired.

I have some videos in my player with different times. All of them never play to the end. Even a video who plyas only one and half minut doesnt play untill the end of it.
What is going wrong?

Newbie with an Urgent problem- BlueJ and Compiler related

Hi, ok so I've downloaded the latest version of BlueJ (2.1.2) and have all of the Java components (i.e. BlueJ actually starts). However when I try to compile a program all it says is "Compiling..." in the corner. Nothing happens and when I click inside the window the message disappears with nothing being changed. Am I missing something glaringly obvious? This is my first encounter with BlueJ and the whole Java-thing. Also, time is a factor so a quick response would be INCREDIBLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well I dont Know much about the BlueJ IDE but I definately advise you to use the JCreator IDE that is perfect for a beginner and has easy to use interface. You can download the Lite Version (which is absolutely free) from:

Newbie with Hand class problem !!

Hi all, I,m new to Java and programming in general. I need to create a Hand class from a Card class that I wrote. The Card class uses a toString to return the string representation of the card and suit. I need a default constructor which is empty so is no problem for me nor is it a big problem to create a constructor that creates an array of cards. My problem is creating a method to add a single card and subtract a single card. Also testing that no two cards are the same. I understand most of this stuff when I am in class but when I get home I don't seem to know how to proceed. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

Mac newbie with a "stacks" problem

Now, you're dealing with a former Windows person here making the transition...
In setting up my desktop, my stacks don't work. when I minimize applications windows, they just line up on that bar...had stacks initially but not now.
How do I get this cool function back?

Quality issues with inserted video file

Hello,
can anyone help me with a video problem in Captivate 6.1, please!
I’m currently working on a Captivate project where I need to include a movie file.
I have the same movie in two different formats .mov and .wmv, which are both looking just great when I watch them with any player on my Windows7 system or on the Mac of my colleagues.
When inserting the movie the encoding to .flv takes place by the Media Encoder, which also seems to be working just fine.
But when playing the project in Captivate, the inserted video shows such a bad quality, that I’m not able to use it like this.
I already have tried different things (inserted as event video or multi-slide synchronized video; changed the slide quality to high; encoded the movies to .f4v files with the Media Encoder; installed a new windows codec package) but nothing leads to an acceptable result.
Which settings do I need to change in Captivate/in the Media Encoder to receive a good video quality?
What else could I do to improve the quality of movies for Captivate projects?
Is there any minimum requirements for movies concerning file format, encoding, or anything else?

I tried unchecking the compression options, doesn’t help
I haven’t yet published the project, the problems occur already when playing the project in Captivate.
The project resolution is 1280x720.
The resolution of the .mov-file of the video is 1920x1080 (12000Kbps, if this information is any helpful…)
The resolution of the .wmv-file of the video is 1280x720 (3000Kbps…)
Maybe the problem occurs already during encoding, the .flv that is created by the Media Encoder doesn’t look that good anymore, I just played it separately (not in a Captivate project).
Are there any settings I could check for the Media Encoder?
