From the Aperture wedding samples: Completely unacceptable output vs ACR
Besides the quirks, pauses, $400 to upgrade my video card(which ran fine with CS2/Bridge/ACR), oh and and twice a day crash, I reallly tried my best to make Aperture sing. However, the output is where the rubber meets the road. Only one word can describe the output from Aperture.
Atrocious.
To be fair, I took one of the D2X wedding sample NEFs from the Aperture install disk:

Took it into Aperture, only applied .5 sharpening(default) and exported it:

What you won't like is that I used a workaround - exported as 16-bit to a hot folder which uses an Automator action to change them to JPEG, which automatically drops the bit-depth to 8-bit. Obviously this isn't going to help for books or web gallerys.
I was pleasantly surprised how little it added to the export time, about two seconds for the full size version.

Hi all, I take wildlife photos (mostly birds) as a hobby, and have become frustrated with the quality of my photos recently when shared online, particularly Facebook.
I started blaming my camera ( a Canon 7D) as I changed it a few months ago from a Canon 550D, and I soon noticed that the images were not as good. Then I realised it was when I started using Aperture.
I started by using the 'share' option within Aperture but I soon realised that then I have no control over the creation of an album, and the photos start appearing on facebook before I have finished uploading them and given them captions. Plus if I subsequently move them or export them to my back up drive then they disappear from Facebook!
So I started creating albums within Facebook and then importing the photos from the aperture projects file on my computer. Because they are imported I can then delete or move the aperture file and the photos stay on facebook. Otherwise my macbook was becoming completely full.
However to test my theory I have today uploaded the same photo edited in Aperture stored in the same projects folder using the two different methods described above, and there is a very distinct difference between the quality of the two images. The shared ones are very much sharper than the imported ones.
I am a computer novice and don't know how to check what the quality settings are, or how to adjust anything to improve the way the photos go into facebook. I do have a manual but I just cant understand it :-(
I have tried a free sample of Lightroom 5 and my photos look amazing, there is such a difference, but I don't want to give up with Aperture unless the problem really can't be solved.

SusanGenerally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
1. Right click images you want to share.
2. Select Export version.
3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
See how you go. -
I downloaded some software and it has to be downloaded from the internet. DL complete and when I click on the pkg to install the software I get the following msg: The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1.)

Why does my iPhoto red eye reduction tool only give me blue or black blobs in the eyeballs that look completely unacceptable? Automatic mode makes blue blobs that cover iris and even eyelid! Manual mode gives black dots, not at all hte shape of a oerson's iris as seen in a picture.

THere is no fix - that is the way it works - you can post as many times as you want but it will not change the fact that that is the way that iPhoto works

How can I delete a app from the Mac App Store completely?
I have a apllication which had a error. I delete it and download the app from the Mac App Store again, but the error wasn't delete. My iMac had stored it and the Error wasn't deleted so I can't youse the app.
What can I do to delete the app complete?
Please answer.If your App was faulty in some way you should write to iTunes support. If you simply want to delete it, most Apps carry uninstall (not delete) instructions.
Incidentally, I believe you cannot delete the record of your purchase from iTunes. That will always stay on your purchases list and be marked with a dark grey square as INSTALL.. -
Trouble running "Universal Windows app that consumes data from the Azure Marketplace" sample
I am trying to run the sample titled "Universal Windows app that consumes data from the Azure Marketplace". I am not sure how to enter the credentials for the Zillow APIs. I obtained a key from Zillow, but when I enter it per the instructions
in the sample, I still get an unauthorized (401) error.
The instructions say Insert that key into the SampleDataSource file of your project in place of the string "Your account key goes here".
So I replaced my key in this line of code:

Only ConverterServlet.class is in the APPS directory from the currency converter sample?
I have this problem, the deploytool won't extract files to iPlanet/ias6/ias/APPS directory when I deploy my bean which I intent to use rich client to access and has no web application. Today I took someone's advice and deployed the currency converter sample and found out only the ConverterServlet.class was extracted in my APPS/j2eeguide/converter folder. It is really strange as only the web application file was extracted. I am using AIX Unix with iAS 6.0 SP1 installed. I check the ksvradmin and kregedit and all is there. Please help.
Hi, I don't know what the necessary patches are but I tried to deploy currency converter sample on my laptop which has iPlanet installed. The folders of ejb and servlet are there in the APPS. I upload the very ear file on my laptop to the AIX and then use j2eeappreg to deploy it. Guess what, no luck. Can I be sure that it is the problem of the AIX? I didn't set up the AIX enviroment so I will have to consult others if it is the AIX enviroment.

The free trial is a fully functioning version of Aperture so you should be able to buy a book with it. What problems are you having?

Question from the After Effects team about audio output
When you render and export a composition from After Effects that does not have audio content, do you ever enable audio output intentionally (thus creating an empty audio track in the output file)?
If so, why, and what formats do you use?
We're in the process of making some improvements to how audio is handled, and we want to make sure that we haven't broken any common workflows.
(Note: If you're not sure about how to enable audio output, see this page: "FAQ: Why is there no sound (audio) in my output file?" )For me, I can't think of a common use-case where that would be necessary. I suppose there are times when you want a file to conform to an existing structure, such as when you want to replace media in Premiere, and the new file needs to have the same number of audio tracks as the old file (which you may not have created). Even though that hardly ever happens (I remember replacing proxies when CS3 got the ability to import P2 footage... it was... not very cooperative), I wouldn't want to lose the ability to arbitrarily export an empty audio track, because I'm sure there are other edge cases which I can't think of. But, I wouldn't mind losing it as a default behavior.
It sounds like what you're hinting at is a feature where the render module detects whether there is any audio in the comp before committing to some kind of default audio track export setting. If there is no audio in the comp (or if all the audio in a comp is disabled), it wouldn't export an audio track.
As long as there is a setting to override this behavior (i.e.: enabled / if detected / disabled) that can be built into an export preset, I'd love such a feature.
I, too, often forget to turn on audio export, because most of my comps don't use audio (I sync audio in Premiere, usually) and I don't like having empty audio tracks I don't need. But in the rare cases I do need audio, it's really annoying to go back and re-export the audio because I forgot to turn it on (similar to forgetting to enable an alpha channel, which makes me feel really stupid). -
I updated my vault, and now it's gone from the aperture listing
Aperture 3.3.
Have my vault on an external USB drive. Updated it. the Vaults says it was modified tonight.
When I looked at the bottom of my Library tab, usually my Vault is listed. Now there is nothing. I click the Hide Vaults and Show Vaults. Nothing. I look around for a way to put the vault back in there without recovering it, therefore recreating my entire Aperture Library.
It was creating my previews when I last looked.
How do I relink the Vault to my Library, or doesn't it matter? Should I just create a new Vault and toss the old one?OK. Update here. I quit Aperture. Opened it up again and the Vault was there. Weird.

How to remove namespace link from the output XML
i have to remove 'xmlns:xdoxslt="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/oracle.apps.xdo.template.rtf.XSLTFunctions"' (namespace) from the output xml file which is generated from the BIP. I need my output XML file without that namespace link, this namespace link is coming for each element.
Anybody know how to do that please help.

I have an up to date version of Aperture on my Mac Pro, and I would like to install it on my new Mac book Pro. I have the original installation disks for Aperture 1 and 2. I cant remember how I got to Aperture 3, I think it was via a web download but not sure. I have checked my purchases in the App Store but there is no indication of me buying an upgrade to Aperture 3.
Ive tried to download it from the App Store but it wants me to pay again.
Can anyone help on how to install Aperture 3 on my new Macbook .

Reinstall Mac OS X
Get help online
Disk Utility
First run Disk Utility Repair Disk, if you get errors run until no errors reported or reports "the disk cannot be fixed". Then, choose Reinstall OS X. This will be an install "in place" and shouldn't effect any of your own data or settings. -

I bought a disk and instead of installing it just used the serial number to activate my trial

On Finder my Aperture Library is still called Aperture Trial Library
Its not going to kill me but I do find it annoying
Any offers on how to sort this, and even if it is ever likely to be a problem?

the trial version limited your library functionality by design ... but that is gone now and you can begin in earnest to create your "permanent" library ...
