From Updating A Site To A FULL Rebuild!!!

Hey Guys,
I have a couple of years experience building websites from a self taught, artistic point of view so I’m not completely green. But I don’t know code. I have recently been asked to “UPDATE” a companies website which to be honest is currently functional, but looks like Stevie Wonder put it together.
Today I showed them some of the updated items for the site and instead of showing updated Button bars, flash video & swf file roll ins and other visual enhancements in separate windows, I built a mock template to hold all the enhancements together as if it was a functional website. And made it so you could view a few (not all) working pages.
They loved the changes!!!! TOO MUCH!!!! The mock site was requested to replace the original site and they asked If I could do the work….Obviously I said yes :0)
Now……slight issue, I’m visual. NOT technical. I would rather spend hrs working on photos & Video then write boring script which I have zero idea how to do.
I purchased Adobe Creative suite 5 a few months ago and have used After Effects, Flash Pro, Flash Catalyst Photoshop, Soundbooth & Premiere Pro to build the work I have created so far. But my question to all of you is this. Whats the best Adobe software for building Search pages?
They want to have a search done by, year, manufacturer, model, engine size, parts. And pages that do the search in reverse orders. They already have this on their server…working. Do I have to rebuild this search page to match the new site, OR can the new site be linked to the jsp files on the server? (I learned what jsp was 30 mins ago)
This is really pushing my boundries of experience but I’m willing to learn how. I have to show them something functional by Monday 23rd September 2010. Where do I start?

Not with Safari. There are some browsers available from the App store that have that feature. I think iCab is one.

Rebuilding Photo Pages from Lost iWeb Site

I mistakenly deleted my backed up iWeb domain file after doing a fresh install of OSX. I know there is no way to import the published HTML files into iWeb, so I am in the process of making a copy of my website manually. I am looking for a way to rebuild my photo pages that doesn't require me to look at the published site, identify which photo is on the site, find it in iPhoto, and drag it to my new iWeb site. Instead, what I'd like to do is grab the photo files from iDisk for each photo page, and then drop them into my new iWeb site. However, I can't seem to find on my iDisk where the actual photo files are stored. I suspect I am looking in the wrong place. The files in the iDisk/Web/Sites/Site Name/My Albums/Pages/Album Name/Media/Photo Name are too small and low quality. When I click the download link from the published site, it's the full size file. Where is this stored?

Your newest version of Firefox is just a total mess!!!! It is so full of male ware and spyware that they take over the browser and redirect to all sorts of spam crap sites!!! I have been a Mozilla Firefox user forever and now must uninstall it for good thanks to this newest crap version!! This thing is a disaster! Please do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. 
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. 
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Perhaps I owe you an apology. Having re-read that downloading from HP was unsuccessful I feel uncomfortable. Can I suggest you update your 10.6 system (as noted in your profile) to 10.6.8 (if it is not already there) by using the
Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 combo update plus any software updates that then apply.

1) Have a look at the following page about transferring the website from one computer to the other

2) Be sure to update iWeb '08 to the latest version (2.0.3). Then double-click the domain file you transferred and iWeb will launch and prompt you to update the domain file to version 2.
The problems some people experience are that some objects might move and not be in the right place anymore or things like that. Just have a look at it once you opened it in iweb '08 before publishing it to the web.
Also make a Backup of the Domain file before- after- you updated and from time to time

Can't download updates using software update or from apple's site

I just got my mac about a week ago. i am trying to download the updates using software update, but they only partially download. After awhile, I get an error message (-1001) that says to check the network connection and try again later. I have tried several times and I still get the same thing. Also, when i try to download the updates from Apple's site, they only partially download as well and then it says they "timed out". This is happening with all downloads i have attempted. The download speeds start out around 150 kb/s but then just start to drop and the download times out. I have to keep stopping and restarting the downloads to get them to finish which gets annoying when the file is large. Any suggestions???

I am connected to the internet via a wireless network set up in my home. There are two other PCs connected to the network, one a desktop and the other a laptop. Neither have had any problems using or connecting to the internet. I have a DSL connection. I have tried to directly connect with the router with an ethernet cable, but the same thing happens.

Always backup your important data before upgrading to a new Mac OS X.
Lion doesn't erase the drive but better to be safe than sorry.
And run Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities). Verify and if necessary repair the startup disk before upgrading.

I am getting browser needs updating from various web sites since getting 10.0 update.sites are taking forever to load.I have to click stop then reload to get them to work.

Should I update my sites to iWeb 8?

I got iLife '08 the day it came out... and while I love the iPhoto improvements, I was very unhappy with some others. And I read (on these forums, amongst other places) that iWeb '08 "affected" websites created on previous versions of iWeb. For instance, that pictures and other imagery were buggy.
Is this still the case? Any other pros, cons I should be aware of?
The main reason I ask is that my professional site (hosted externally) is up, and just fine. But I need to make some minor tweaks and I don't want to have to re-do everything.
I also have 3 other sites (2 on .mac) that I've been "juggling" by keeping the domain files separate. ...How does iWeb '08 handle multiple sites? Or, at least multiple domain files?

A lot of us have had problems with converting sites to iWeb '08.
None of mine converted satisfactorily and I keep them maintained with iWeb '06 as I rebuild them in '08.
If you do decide to convert, make sure you have backup copies of the domain.sites files in case the conversion doesn't turn out to your satisfaction. Also, I wouldn't overwrite an existing site on your server until you see how the new one publishes and performs as there can be layout problems.
I keep iWeb '06 and the old domain files on an external drive so that I can boot my Mac from there and update old sites without creating havoc.
Multiple sites can be used in iWeb '08 more or less the same as '06. You can store the domain files in separate folders or use the freeware application iWebsites.

I believe the issue is with the Apple ID that was used to purchase the App. If you download an App that was purchased under a different Appple ID then all updates will also be linked to the original purchaser's Apple ID. Your Apple ID is the the same ID as your iTunes, iCloud, etc. Some folks use different ID for the different Apple sites. No need for that One ID for all Apple Sites, and if someone else buys an App using their ID and they(you) download that App onto your device and that App requires an update it will ask for the purchasers Apple ID. This happens a lot when folks sell their iPad or give it to someone else and leave some purchased(free) Apps on the iOS device. You cannot change the original ID the App was purchased under. A suggestion would be if someone else has an App that you like but do not want to pay for use their ID or in the future have them gift the App to you.

A little background info. I use Captivate 7 and currently have over 100 projects that I maintain on a quarterly basis. I publish using the SWF format and upload the swf/htm files to a server where they are then accessed from a few locations (within our online documentation, in our software product, on two different websites). Many of the projects are linked so some will be viewed as a series and others viewed as a standalone video. Each video uses the same template and includes an intro and end slide. Now my organization wants to implement a new intro to all videos (those I publish and those from several groups across the organization). My current intros provide overview material for the specific video so the new intro, which is an animation with audio in mp4 format, would need to be placed at the start of each project. The issue is, the intro adds 9 seconds to every video and in many cases doesn’t add any value (say, if a user accesses the video from within our product or views the videos as a series). I’ve talked it over with my boss and we want to try to add the intro only to videos accessed from site X, not any other location. So now to my question. Is there a way to play an external mp4 file (intro) only when the published project is accessed from a specific site, therefore eliminating the need to update each project? Maybe there's a way to add a parameter or variable to the URL or the html code?

I have a solution for you. You may have to modify the code a little bit based on how long the timeline animation is for your clock. I based mine on 3 seconds to complete a minute hand sweep around the clock.
Milliseconds for each point on the clock:
12 = 0
1 = 250
2 = 500
3 = 750
4 = 1000
5 = 1250
6 = 1500
7 = 1750
8 = 2000
9 = 2250
10 = 2500
11 = 2750
In the mouseover section for 12 o' clock, put this code...

When you point to the time, the setInterval method loops every 100th of a second and checks the current position of the timeline. When the timeline reaches the range between 0 and 50 milliseconds (almost impossible to hit 1 specific point), the timeline will stop at 0. Also, the clearInterval will be fired to stop the loop.
In the mouseout section, put this...
sym.play();
clearInterval(myVar);
It start the clock again, and it also clears the loop in case you mouseout before you reach the range.
Make sure that myVar is a global variable so you can clear it from the mouseout section.
Repeat this for each point on the clock. To avoid potential conflicts, you may want to use my12, my1, my2, etc. instead of myVar. I put the milliseconds at the top that you would use as the beginning of the range. 50 milliseconds should be enough to catch it. So, for 5 o' clock, you would make your range between 1250 and 1300.

Prevent iTunes on second user account from updating iPod

I was unable to find an answer to this question in a search, so I hope someone out there can help.
My wife and I have separate admin user accounts on our Mac. All our music is stored under my user account to which I have granted full access to all users. This allows us to manage our own songs and playlists on our respective iTunes without duplicating music files (she doesn't like metal and I don't like country).
The problem is the use of my iPod; I have it set up to automatically manage selected playlists from my iTunes. Occasionally, however, my wife opens iTunes when my iPod isn't mounted but in the cradle charging, resulting in the iPod being overwritten with the songs and playlists from her iTunes.
I've tried setting up her iTunes to manually manage playlists but this changes the same settings on my iTunes. I want to continue automatically managing my playlists because I have numerous smart playlists in my library.
Is there a way to prevent just one user's account from updating an iPod while the other does so automatically?

iPod agent is now PodPlus, and after installing it (bit of bother, as our entire network was in the process of collapsing at the same time!), I transferred all my songs to my PC. Worked really well. Much appreciated!
