From "Video" to "Film" effects plugin ...

Hi,
Does anyone know/have any plugins that can give video that really "film" type effect? I've tried doing it using Color Correction & 3 Way but someone told me there may be plugins for it?
Or any other plugins you may think would come in handy? Is it worth investing in Magic Bullet?
Ali.

Is it worth investing in Magic Bullet?< </div>
If you can make it pay for itself, sure.
The film look from video is a terribly overworked cliché. It works when appropriate but so many of us slap it on in hopes of somehow improving bad video or satisfying some director's pedestrian concept.
A filmish end result starts in preproduction. Choose your lighting, shutter speeds, codecs, lenses, and sound systems to achieve a satisfying style. Scewing around in post is dreadfully inefficient the firs few times mostly because "film look" is totally subjective.

  • Adobe Media Encoder (Pr CS4) encodes my videos without the effects of the plugins Genarts Sapp

    Hello,
My Adobe Media Encoder (Premiere CS4) encodes my videos without the effects of the plugins Genarts Sapphire. I did not have this problem with CS2 and also he encodes all other plugins.
Do you know why? I really need to solve this serious issue.
    Any help will be apprecieted,

OK, good. Go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0 and look for two files called "Plugin Loading.log" and "Headless Plugin Loading.log" (without the quotes). These are just text documents, so open them up in Notepad or similar and compare the two; what you're looking for are references to your Sapphire plugins. What you'll probably find is that in "Plugin Loading.log", the plugins are loaded successfully--it will say something like "The plugin was successfully loaded from the registry."--whereas in "Headless Plugin Loading.log" the same plugin will be marked "The plugin is marked as Ignore, so it will not be loaded."
If you see that, let me know and I'll try to walk you through the steps of correcting it. If you like, I'd be happy to look at the log files; attach them to a reply here (they're small documents).

  • How to import effect plugins from Premiere Pro CC to Premiere Pro CC 2014

Many of the Premiere Pro CC plugins I've been using since subscribing have disappeared from the effects panel in Premiere Pro CC 2014. For example, under Video Transitions/3D Motion, the only two listed are Cube Spin and Flip Over. None of the others are listed. I tried importing the Factory Presets.prfpset file from CC into CC 2014, but that didn't do anything. How can I import the effect plugins into CC 2014? Thanks.

    Hi
Have a look at this thread
How to migrate my effects custom presets from Premiere Pro CC to Premiere Pro CC 2014?
    It worked for me

Why does Quicktime tell me it can't play certain videos created with my Phantom 2 v3 drone ? I fly the drone and switch back and forth from video to still pics and while I may have filmed four videos , sometimes Quicktime tells me that one of them can't be played . Checking the info shows that each of the unplayed videos was saved in the same mp4 format as the playable ones yet some of my most important videos won't play . It's getting very frustrating .

first; I use Perian, that helps even though it is no longer supported, (must have for avi files)
the apple-cores at apple have gotten very sloppy -- quicktime is a bit finicky and flakey.
example,   occasionally (when copy file from quad's card to hard drive)  the avi will show up as a 'mov' file and qt plays it no problem and no conversion.
but that is very occasionally,  most of the time qt won't convert the file,   -- iMovie won't open an avi without Perian installed  ,  I don't know how that effects qt.
qt 7"pro" is no good either, (qt 10 does everything it does and for NOT the extra $35)
I have gone to VLC  and MPlayerX  for direct playback for drones and cameras.

  • Hu is the name of plugin to make the film effect

hu is the name of plugin to make the film effect.
    can halp me,thanks!

What film effect? Grain? Grading? Film damage? There's a whole lot of them. There are plugins contained in suites such as The Foundry Tinderbox, Digieffects Delirium, Genarts Sapphire and surely even Boris and you can of course by more complex dedicated tools such as Cinelook and Magic Bullet Looks. Some grain management tools and color correction are included in AE. you can build a damaged film look manually as well. Check my old project:

  • Can I make a time lapse effect from video footage?

Is there a way to easily create a time lapse effect from video footage in Final Cut Pro 7?
I have hours of footage - too many hours to just do speed changes.
Is there a way to automatically grab a frame and hold it for a half second or so every 30 seconds?
    Thanks,

Depends what you mean by "easily".
I have hours of footage - too many hours to just do speed changes.
I think doing via speed changing may be the easiest way to do this. Once the footage is ingested, get it to the timeline and do your speed up. At least this gives you the option of trying different speeds to get the effect you want, and the option to vary the speed as needed.
Is there a way to automatically grab a frame and hold it for a half second or so every 30 seconds?
Yes, but it somewhat complex. You need to buy an app from the app store called SnapMotion 2 (which I think is around $3.99).
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/snapmotion/id548959270
SnapMotion allows you to take a video a file and pull still frames at interval you specify and in the format a frame size you choose, and save them as individual images.
So you would set up the interval you want (say 30 seconds) and SnapMotion will go through the file and pull an image every 30 seconds. You would need to do that to all your files.
(I have never done this with a file that was longer than 10 minutes, so you should check with the developer and see if it will work with very long - multi hour - clips).
Once you have all your pulled stills, then open QuickTime Player 7 and import the still images as an image sequence.
Once you have the image sequence built in QuickTime, export it in the codec you want to use in FCP.

  • For the second time in one week, my dowloaded film stopped and disappeared from Video. apple apologized and will refund me.have some, others the same problem?

My dowloaded films stopped after a while and disappeared from Video. How come can this happen?

I cant explain it but this bizarre "fix" works many times if your videos "disappear". I have passed this on to a number of people and it has worked for them. You can try it if you like.
Go to your home screen and swipe to the right to bring up the spotlight search feature. Type in the name of the movie that you were watching. If the movie appears in the search, tap on it to begin playing. If it plays, let it go for a few minutes and then hit the done button to stop it. Then go back to the Videos App and see if the movies and TV shows have reappeared.

  • Audition CS6 (Bootcamp Win. 7) Crashing from built in effects / plugins

    Long story short:
I own a PC license for Production Premium CS6
I just bought a new computer (MacBook Pro retina 15")
I have (successfully) set up Win. 7 using Bootcamp on my MBP
I have (successfully) installed and tested my copy of Production Premium CS6everything was working okay (i.e. - previewing clips, changing amplitute, cutting), until I tried to use the built in effects / plugins on some audio in Audition
When I attempt to add an effect (i.e. - Noise Reduction <process>), after 2-3 sec. I get a crash notice, and my only option is to "close program". This is also occuring when other plugins are attemptedno option to see an error log, etc.
My Pro. Prem. suite is literally the only thing installed on the Windows side of my MBP, and I ran Adobe update for the suite after installing. I have scoured the web looking for answers to this issue, but have had no luck yet (this includes the forums here too).
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if more info is needed about my machine, etc. please let me know (this is my first forum post).
    Best,
    Matthew

The location should be the same - Bootcamp allows a pretty standard Windows install with some hardware-specific drivers added in.
As SteveG mentioned, you should be able to find the Audition log files by doing the following:
Open Windows Explorer and in the Address bar, type:  %APPDATA% and hit Enter.
    Open Adobe > Audition > 5.0 > logs
Send "Audition Log.txt" as a text file to [email protected]
You may also find more helpful information in Windows error logs.  To find this, open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer  and click on Windows Logs > Application.  Find entries for Audition corresponding with the time of the most recent crash and you can copy/paste the details in the message as well.
It might be worth noting that I have some suspicion that keeping out-of-date or several versions of Microsoft .NET installed may have some impact.  We're still investigating, but two users with similar problems have recently reported that updating or uninstalling old versions of .NET appear to have resolved the issue for them.  If you have any versions of that installed, please let me know.
Can I verify the nature of the crash, though?  Does the crash happen simply when you OPEN an effect, or when you click APPLY?  If it's open, are you able to adjust parameters and hear the preview okay?

  • Nattress Film Effects (lots of nerdy detail)

    Hello all.
Firstly, I use Final Cut Express 3.5, and not FCP. HOWEVER, I've read many times that the FCP forum is a much better place to post questions about Nattress Film Effects, due to the fact that there are MANY more users here. So, here goes:
I edited a music video last year using Film Effects in FCE 3.5. It came out great, considering the (admittedly lowly) level of miniDV cams we used. Film Effects made a HUGE difference. Awesome. Best $99 a fellow ever spent, and I mean it (we even got onto TV).
BUT... During the process, I encountered a major problem, and I'm quite sure that my work flow was the culprit. I basically had the entire thing cut and sequenced just the way I wanted, then dragged the Nattress effects where I needed them (to clips in various sequences, using different filters and so forth). With nearly EVERY cut, the filter "turned off" a frame before the cut, giving it an unbearably "sloppy" appearance.
i.e. I shot of a man singing on the street. CUT TO: Woman in Bedroom, reading love letters. I make that cut with no prior adjustments to the image. THEN I add a "G Film Basic Cool" to the man, and a "G Film Basic Warm" to the girl. Presto. Sloppy, sloppy cut between the two. The last frame of the dude and the first frame of the girl: both without the effect, causing a bad cut. With synced vocals, I can't "cheat" by tossing just those frames.
The workaround, I found, was to extend the clip either above or below the adjoining one (so that it overlapped), add the filter, and THEN cut. VERY tedious, considering how many seperate cuts were in the vid. Although, it would still be tedious to render overly-long clips and then widdle them down (especially since the point of a NLE application is to be flexible).
Am I totally missing the point of what the workflow really ought to be? Becasue what Film Effects actually DID to the footage (far from the cut) was truly great. I must be missing something.
Sorry for the overly long email. I'm trying to do my homework ahead of time on this one!
    Thanks,
    Chris H.

The good news is that the answer is simple. It's all to do with the order you apply plugins. Because FilmEffects plays with time to get the 24p effect, it needs to know about frames both before and after the current one. That means it needs to know about the frame beyond the end of your clip, for instance. Now, filters generally apply to just the in through out points, and don't apply to the frames beyond, so if you do a colour correction filter, then add the 24p from Film Effects, the last frame can be made up from a frame that doesn't have the colour correction applied!
The simple solution is to ensure than any filter that alters time, like the 24p from Film Effects comes first in the stack. If it's not first, a simple re-arrangement of order can fix the issue.
Not only does this ensure things work right, but you'll get faster rendering too!

  • Videos and special effects... (?)

Okay I just found these.. they are great! But I was wondering... is anyone else having issues when filming either backlit or in the snow?
My vids are... as best described... "mucky" looking!
Is there not an option to increase the contrast or to 'vivid color' saturate the look?
    Thanks...
===== and for those that do not know about the special effects: =====
Chapter 5 Using the Video Camera page:53
    Recording Video with Special Effects
You can record video with a variety of special effects on iPod nano.
Note: Video effects can only be selected before recording. iPod nano can’t add effects
to or remove effects from recorded videos. You can’t change video effects settings
    while recording.
To record video with special effects:
1 Choose Video Camera from the main menu.
2 Press and hold the Center button to display the video effects palette.
3 Use the Click Wheel to browse the effects, and press the Center button to select one.
The viewfinder screen appears with the selected effect.
4 Press the Center button again to start recording with video effects.
5 Press the Center button to stop recording.
If you exit the Video Camera screen to play back your video, video effects are turned
off. To resume recording with a video effect, repeat steps 2 through 4.

Okay, why am I the only one who couldn't figure out how to get Special Effects with my video camera? The User Manual instructions: see pg 7, which is correct and pg 53-54 seem to be written incompletely; and (as I read them) indicate that with "Video Camera" on the screen, the center black button should be held down, thus providing the choices of Special Effects. WRONG. What does provide the array of Special Effects, is to select Video Camera (with the black center button), opening the lens of the camera. Before recording begins, hold the center black button down until the Special Effects are displayed, THEN select one and begin recording with it by quickly depressing the black center button. To end, again depress the black center button.

  • Are there 3rd party effects plugins available as part of the cloud or do I have to buy them?

Are there 3rd party effect plugins available as part of the Creative Cloud membership or do I have to buy them directly from the provider? I like a lot of the stuff I see on Video Copilot. I'm new here and my guess is I have to buy them there, but want to make sure I'm not overlooking something here.

There are a lot of plug-ins available in AE and I would highly recommend learning the basics before you start buying 3rd party effects. Without a really good understanding of how AE works, what the UI is used for, and getting a bit of a handle on how to compose and edit animations you're going to be just parking your investment for a while until you learn how to use AE. I could easily fill up the two or three semesters in a Masters program at a university with nothing more than what comes with AE.
If you have a very specific need for a very specific effect and your are under a deadline then it's often advisable to purchase a effect, but if you are intent on learning how to animate, composite and create magic then just about anything you have seen can be created with the standard set of plug-ins.

  • This is how you extract frames from video

right then, in answer to many posts about how to get the individual frames from video, here is my solution. it seems to work with mpg files but it doesnt seem to work with any of the avi files i tried. not sure why it doesnt work with those. i have modified javas frame access.
nothing is displayed except it prints which frame it is doing.
if anyone wants to improve it, please do. i still dont understand fully how it works so i probably wont be able to answer many questions about it. anyway here it is:

The quality of the produced video from this example is very poor.
It comes to huuuuge surprise the following fact.
If you comment the line where you set the PostAccessCodec, the chain of the codecs is:
MPEG-1 decoder -> YUV2RGB -> Direct Draw Renderer. ( The one used from the system to decode and render)
If you run the example purely as is above you get the following sequence(as long with the poor quality):
    MPEG-1 decoder -> YUV2RGB -> Windows GDI Renderer.
So you say lets set another Renderer. So
you add the following line videoTracker.setRenderer( new DDRenderer() )
What comes to a surprise is the following chain of codecs:
    MPEG-1 decoder -> YUV2RGB -> Post Codec -> Java RGB Converter - > DDRenderer
The quality now may be perfect but video runs to slow. The surprising thing here is that even though we have set the outputFormat of the PostAccessFrame codec to RGBFormat the system converts it again to RGB through codec Java RGB Format.
After searching a lot and reaching the conclusion that the deference between the 2 RGB's is their sizes I sudently was brought in front of a method called grabFrame(). Bels started ringing inside my head. Starts were comming up. Looking at the definition of the class com.sun.media.renderer.video.DDRenderer I descovered that this damn class implements the FrameGrabbingControl Interface. What the f.....? The problem that consumed 4 days of my life and multiplied with 10 to give hours has finally come to an and.
Summing up the solution for grabbing frames is this!!!!!
    DDRenderer renderer = new DDRenderer();
    videoTrack.setRenderer( renderer );
    and in your actionPerformed implementation
    FrameGrabbingControl fr = (FrameGrabbingControl)renderer.getControl( "javax.media.control.FrameGrabbingControl");
    Buffer frame = fr.grabFrame();
The following stuff ...are stated in FrameAccess

Macbook pro redina display keeps on telling me that the hard drive is full from Videos, and yet their is no videos, what can i do?

If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Why does my video shows interlacing effects

I am importing HD videos from my Canon Legria HF200. On my user account the videos show interlacing effects, while on the other user account on the same iMac the videos are perfectly imported. We looked in preferences in order to find differences in settings but we could not find any.
I guess I modified a setting somewhere on my account which my partner did not on his.
I tried updating iMovie but it is already the most recent version (9.0.2).
I tried reinitializing the settings but could not find how to do it.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks a lot!

You should check out this thread. It will explain why you are seeing interlacing in iMovie with the Legria HF200.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/13203436?messageID=13203436
This is a known issue with all Canon Legria (PAL) camcorders. If you do a search with the term Legria, interlacing and iMovie you will find a number of threads.

  • LR 5.5 - Cannot export/publish to HDD or Flickr from video frame capture - "An internal error has occurred: assertion failed"

Basically as the title states, I cannot publish a set of photos that originated as video frame captures, whether to my hard drive or using a service plugin for Flickr. I have tried multiple publish service plugins for Flickr and everything fails precisely the same way. This only happens when I add photos to the collection that are JPG's derived from video, and it only started doing this recently. I have other frame captures that I uploaded just fine, but it appears that nothing from the set I worked on the other day wants to upload. Other NEF-derived photos from the same set work just fine.
All I get is a Warning dialog stating that an error has occurred while the main dialog stops on "Preparing to export...", then it kicks me back with no action taken when I click OK. The status in the upper left says "Updating Published Collections". If I remove the new frame capture photo, it works fine, but as soon as I add one to the collection, it fails to publish.
I updated from 5.4 to 5.5, tried new publish plugins, completely removed and recreated my local profile, reimported my catalog, all to no avail. Everything worked fine two days ago, then when I went to upload my latest edits yesterday, I started receiving the error and have had no luck fixing it.
I used debugView to capture a log as the error occurred, so I can provide that for a developer or support contact if required.
EDIT: I just tried choosing some different photos in the set, and most appear to work, so it is just some particular images that it does not like. I will try to narrow it down.
Message was edited by: Andrew Morton

I narrowed it down to one photo in particular that it does not like. It's not a deal-breaker, but I am still curious what is going on that is causing that one photo being in a set to break the publish process
