From Word DOC to Acrobat PDF... borders and lines get screwed up.

I've been looking this up for days now and have yet to find a solution.
I have a MS Word document that has a bunch of tables with borders and sometimes just text with borders for stylistic reasons. In Word, it all looks perfect.
But, when I convert it to PDF using Acrobat, many of those borders get screwed up in various random ways.
Sometimes certain borders get thicker, sometimes thinner, sometimes invisible altogether. Sometimes it's only certain lines of the same border (just the left side, or just the top). I see no real pattern to what's causing it to only happen in certain cases only.
What makes it extra annoying is that if I zoom in or out a certain amount, the borders will look the way they are supposed to look. Some will look perfect at 100% zoom only, and some will look perfect at 75% zoom only.
This has been driving me insane. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Converting Word (table) to pdf - lines screwed up - googled as far back as 2004.
BUG STILL exists. HELP/FIX PLEASE?

Trying to convert any word doc with tables (& shading) to PDF
- basic table, black borders throughout
- shaded headings, black outline border
- shaded subheadings, black outline border
However when convert to PDF:
- 'displays' NO top cell border for some/all shaded rows
- shows diff thickness lines
- each conversion, diff lines missing/incorrectly sized
- however converted pdf prints perfectly fine
Adobe know about the bug, per PRMW's (Paul's) post on 2009-07-15 15:44:34, however only offered a painful time consuming workaround using non-freeware Adobe Pro:
http://acrobatusers.com/forum/pdf-creation/word-pdf-table-lines-missing-or-faded#comment-7 8139
- "It is not feasable to edit 200+ tables in the PDF every time the PDF is generated, as we maintain the original in word.
- "This complete issue seems to have been passed off by Adobe as no problem and that there is a work around. I consider this an unsatisfactory response from a major product supplier.
Microsoft TechNet & NitroPdf said it's an Adobe issue & to contact Adobe to fix the bug.
Tried, but proble exists:
* Word 2010 > File  > Save & Send > Create PDF/XPS Document
* Word 2010 > Save As > Pdf
* Word 2010 > Print > PrimoPdf  (even tried properties > advanced > dpi 300/600/2400) > Custom
* Word 2010 > Print > doPDF v7  (even tried 'high quality images)
* Word 2010 > Print > PDFCreator
* Word 2010 > Print > CutePdf Writer      (even worse)
* Nitro Pdf Reader  > Convert From File > (even worse)
* www.pdfonline.com > Word to Pdf         (even worse)
* www.wordtopdf.com > email: Sorry, an unexpected conversion failure occurred when converting your file.
Software:
* Word 2010 - tried with .docx & .doc (97 to 2003)
* Adobe Reader 8.2.6 (freeware), then upgraded to Adobe Reader X 10.0.1 (freeware)
* GhostScript 9.01 w32 (freeware)
* CutePdf Writer (freeware)
* PrimoPdf (freeware)
* Nitro Pdf Reader 1.4.0.11 (freeware)
* doPDF 7.2.361 (freeware)
* PDFCreator 1.2.0 (opensource - www.pdfforge.org)
Seems to display better at 300%, but lines still not right (even at 2400%), but who views pdf's at this zoom?

  • Figures order gets messed up when converting from Word 2010 to Acrobat PDF

    Hi,
    Im wondering if someone can help me. I have a 10 page document in Word 2010 with many figures (rectangles and circles overlapping each other). The order of these figures are essential. I have triplechecked the order in Word with the correct figure marked as on top. But when I convert (by printing) to PDF the order of the figures gets messed up making a mess in the document.
    I have Acrobat 9.
    Could someone please help me with this?
    Many thanks!

    I solved this by taking the document with me to a computer with Word 2007 installed instead of 2010. I guess the problem lays in the fact as some of you mentioned that Acrobat 9 doesnt support Word 2010. Now I know why! This is a bummer though, upgrading to Acrobat X isnt exactly cheap and I dont want to downgrade Word as I really like some of the new features in it (as the screenclip option).
    Thanks for your answers!

    I have had a trial version of Acrobat X1 Pro - I have decided not to buy at this stage - for some time it has been conflicting with opening PDF docs after "saving as" from word 2007 - I uninstalled Pro X1 and now when I "save as" PDF from word 2007 to PDF it will save the document as a PDF but will not open the document to display after publishing - I have to got to where the file has been saved to view the new PDF document - this is really annoying - do I have to delete adobe reader and reinstall it - adobe needs to look at this conflict with acrobat pro as I have even gone it to properties and tried to have adobe reader as the default PDF program - the main issue is that I cannot view the PDF after publishing it from word 2007

  • Acrobat 9 Pro PDF is not retaining original page settings from Word doc

    The document I am trying to put into PDF format (from Word 2000, using Acrobat 9 Pro (trial version)) drops my original Word page settings (5.5" x 8.5") and defaults to 8.5" x 11" in the PDF.  Using "Crop Pages" does not remedy the situation - the doc just stays at the larger size in Acrobat/PDF. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong?

    Change the paper size in the printer properties before creating the PDF. This is the same as putting the proper paper in a physical printer.

  • Cannot embed pdfs in MS Word doc which are PDF Version 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x) [This is associated with Adobe Reader 9]. Getting 'program not installed' error.

    Cannot embed pdfs in Word doc which are PDF Version 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x) [This is associated with Adobe Reader 9]. Getting 'program not installed' error.
    Pdfs with other versions are okay:
    Tested successfully with Adobe Pro 9 (Version 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)), Reader X (Version 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x)) and XI (Version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x))
    Also cannot open embedded pdfs which have been embedded with this version (getting a similar error).
    Importantly I have removed/disabled all security options in Adobe Reader, following numerous internet suggestions from Adobe and elsewhere. This does not fix the problem.
    Currently the work around is to re-save the pdf with something other than Adobe Reader 9 (so the version updates), but we would prefer not to do this for all the old pdfs we have.
    Thank you,
    Louise.

    Could you please email me the document on which you are seeing this issue at [email protected] ?
    Please mention the forum thread link as well in the mail for the reference.

  • Error message- cannot create PDF from Word doc

    All of a sudden I cannot create a PDF from a Word doc. I click the Adobe icon and get the following error message:
    "PDFMaker could not locate the Adobe PDF printer. Please install the printer on this machine."
    I opened my print & fax in System Utilities and see that Adobe PDF 7.0 printer is listed. I select that in the Print Dialog, go back to the Word doc, but get the same error message. Any idea how I can fix this?
    Thank you--

    What versions of WORD. Is your AAX updated, or still running 10.0.0? What OS? Can you print to the Adobe PDF printer (i.e., is it just with PDF Maker that you are not successful). If it is a problem with PDF Maker, can you see the Adobe menu in WORD? As you may see, saying you cannot create a PDF from WORD does not tell us much and we need a lot more info to help.

  • Remove Header and footer from Word Docs

    Is it possible to remove the header/footer from Word docs?
    The html output from ctx_doc.markup gets the header/footer and (specialy)page numbers all messed up.

    Please define 'messed up'. I'll reproduce here and then try to find a cause/solution. I checked a couple of other forums and Metalink with no good discussion on the topic.

    I'm converting a word doc to a pdf and have a color spin wheel - going on 10 min now. any clue as to why? or how i make it stop?

    Hit command tab and swtich to the Finder, under the Apple menu is Force Quit, do that to the program that is causing your "hang" and restart the program and what you were doing.
    If you didn't save your file beforehand, then your going to have to make it again.

  • How to setup word docs, converted to PDF on local drive with links to a second file at a page

    how to setup word docs, converted to PDF on local drive with links to a second file at a page
    Need to setup a set of word documents, converted to PDF that has links from one file to a second file at a given page.
    I would like to setup a set of pdf documents, on the hard disk of a PC or Mac, that can be open with acrobat pro running on the same computer and have the link jump to, and open in a new window, in acrobat pro, to a given page of a second document in the set.
    Is there a way to setup a link in word and the conversion to pdf that will result in a link that is equivalent to the acrobat link type  you get when you add a link of the type Go to a page in another document?
    Tools-Advanced Editing-Link tool, make a box
    Check: Go to page view, Next (Create go to view dialog opens)
    Open second document and go to page
    Click “Create go to view dialog” to set up link
    Result is a link, when view by link properties, with an action of
    Go to a page in another document
    File: C:\My Documents\second file.pdf
    Page: 43
    Zoom level: Custom
    I got close but did not solve the problem:
    I have a version that uses links to a website, using #page=43 at the end of the hyperlink.
    That works but will only open to the page if is through the web browser, opening the acrobat reader plugin.
    I need to open from a folder on the local harddisk (with relative links), in acrobat pro to the given page of the pdf, on a PC or a Mac.
    I could bookmark each page “pagenumberxxx” and jump to the bookmark/page if that would get around some problem
    Current Systems in use to create documents with links and view them:
    Windows XP SP3
    Word 2003 SP3
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.4.4
    Or just to view them:
    Mac OS 10 Lion version 10.7.4
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.5.1
    (note I have limited understanding of Mac’s)
    John

    No.  There seems to be no automated way to do it.  You can of course go into the PDF and manually add links after you have converted to PDF, but that is what we want to avoid having to do.  We want it to be automatic from the Word doc.

  • Link to a Word doc in a PDF is not opening the doc in Internet Exlorer 8

    I have a PDF created in Acrobat 9 Pro, I have given a link to a word doc. The PDF and link is working perfectly on browsers other than Internet Explorer 8.
    In IE-8 Even if allow to open the doc when prompted, nothing happens.
    How can I fix this?

    Dropbox has a convenient feature to preview DOC files as PDFs in Firefox's built-in PDF viewer. It's convenient but can lead to this problem that you end up downloading the document as a PDF instead of a DOC file.
    As long as the recipient uses the Download button on Dropbox's toolbar above the viewer (see attached screen shot comparison), the recipient should get the original format instead of the preview.
    Is that the issue?
    (See also the past thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/967837 firefox is reading word files as pdf's when I download them from DropBox.com])

  • Why when I am converting a word doc into a PDF are some of the pages moving around. It appears to be

    Why when I am converting a 50 page word doc into a PDF using Acrobat XI Pro the pages are moving around.
    It appears to be happening in the places where the previous page is not a complete full page, just a half page.
    It is moving these pages up into the previous half page, but it is only moving them several lines into that page
    Which has totally distored my e-book.
    It is attaching all my pattern sheets at the very end of the file okay, etc.

    Also, to be more sure you get in the PDF what you are seeing in WORD, go to the print menu and select the Adobe PDF printer, then go back to editing. The is a feature of almost all word processors to reflow the document for best results with the attached printer. It is also one of the problems of using WORD forms that such form designers miss. If you don't like the reflow, many the Adobe PDF printer your default and always print to Acrobat. If you want it to go to a printer, then print from Acrobat to that printer and it should remain intact. The other way to avoid the reflow is to use a layout program like Publisher or InDesign.

  • Hidden formatting held over from Word doc conversion

    Our company is shifting our product manuals from Word docs to InDesign.  I'm a newbie to InDesign, and I have just converted my first attempt using File>Place.  This was a moderate size file (15MB), with a lot of embedded images, diagrams, and formatting.  Although some of the text formatting didn't convert properly, the clean up has been easy.  The biggest issues I've found are residual page and section breaks that needed to be manually removed from my text frames.
    My boss, however, is hesitant and concerned that there might be some "hidden" formatting that carried over from Word that will ultimately undo all my progress and wreck havoc with the new ID document when we least expect it.  Is there anything I should be looking for in particular?

    ML,
    This topic was just discussed at InDesignSecrets.com in the last two podcasts.
    Go to:http://indesignsecrets.com/category/podcasts
    You will find out almost everything you want to know about importing Word files. Especailly check out the part on "Maggy-ing" the Word file, this might be what your boss was concerned with.

  • Convert MS Word (.doc) document to pdf document

    Hi All,
    My requirement is that I need to convert MS Word (.doc) document to pdf document.
    Is there any standard SAP function module.
    Pls guide me.
    Rishi

    I dont understand why you want to use SAP to convert word file to PDF file.
    1. Search in google
    2. www.win2pdf.com - this may be useful
    Still if you want to use SAP to do that then follow the below procedure.
       1. Upload the data from word to internal table using the function module : GUI_UPLOAD.
       2. Use spool :
                  1) RSPO_OPEN_SPOOLREQUEST - Open spool request
                  2) RSPO_WRITE_SPOOLREQUEST - Write to spool request
                  3) RSPO_CLOSE_SPOOLREQUEST - Close spool request
       3. use the function module CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF to convert spool in to PDF format.
