Front audio connection on Antec Sonata case

I'm building a new system with K8N Neo Platinum and Antec Sonata.  It's more or less working now execpt for bits and pieces here and there.  I've been scratching my head over the audio connection all afternoon.  The only way I can get audio signal to come out at all is to unplug the front audio line, put the jumpers back and get it out of the back.
Did anybody manage to get the front panel audio connection on the Sonata working at all?  The pinout for JAUD1 on page 2-20 of the Neo Platinum manual looks exactly the same as front audio header header pin assignment on page 20 of the Intel Front Panel I/O Connectivity Guide.   On the Sonata side, page 4 of the Sonata manual says "If your motherboard supports Intel's standard onboard audio connector, you can plug the 10-pin connector directly onto the board".  So far so good.  Then the Sonata manual goes on to say on page 5:
8. Rear Right Speaker Out Pin: Connect the RET-R connector to this pin.
9. Reat Left Speaker Out Pin: Connect RET-L connector to this pin.
Note:  Your motherboard may not support rear speaker output.  In this case, you do not need to connect RET-R and RET-L.
This last part makes no sense at all.  According to the Intel document, those RET lines are signals returning from the front panel.  They have nothing to do with rear channel, and they must be connected or you won't get anything from the rear line out jack.  So what's really going on?  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Andy

Those 8, 9 and the notes only apply if your motherboard does not have the Intel compatibile IO connectors. So you should ignore those lines.

  • Front firewire not working in Antec Sonata case

    Hi
I have a 865PE Neo2-FIS2R in a Antec Sonata case, and I haven't been able to get the front firewire port to work.
I've double check all my pin configurations and tested all of the ports tho no luck w/ any of them.
    my configuration is:
    P4 2.4GHZ 800 FSB W/ hyperthreading
    1 x 512 MB Kingston PC3200
    Sapphire 9600 PRO
    Maxtor 20GB
    IBM Deskstar 60GB
    PLEXTOR 40/20/40A
    PIONEER 16X DVD
    Winxp pro (no sp1)
    any ideas?

i discovered that what the problem was is that the wires from the connectors from the case were mislabled.  the TPA+ and the TPA-, as well as the TPB+ and the TPB- were switched around (the plus was actually a minus)
after switching that around it worked w/o a hitch
    thanks

  • ? about front audio connections

How do I connect my front panel to my board ?
    Front I/O ports (audio)
4 - Line Out FR (RED) right channel audio signal to front panel
5 - Line Out RR (blue) right channel audio signal return from front panel
6 - Line Out FL (white) Left channel audio signal to front panel
7 - Line Out RL (yello) Left channel audio signal return from front panel
Thats how the case diagram has it labeled

Look on page 2-20 of your K8N Neo Platinum Quick User's Guide. The JAUD1 diagram along with the key below it are pretty self-explanatory. Also check page 2-2 for a diagram of your motherboard if you need help in locating JAUD1.

  • Front aufio line out L/R reversed, backplate ok on Antec Sonata

Did they wire this wrong on the case connector?  My L/R is reversed only on the front jack, and I connected using the 10 pin single connector.   Probably the Antec connector was wired wrong, cause I dont think you can insert the plug reversed.
     Anyone ever see this issue?

    Well, Well, Well...
After reading this I thought I'd try shifting the audio balance to left and right while playing a track in Winamp.  OK for my desktop speakers which shifted left and right correctly.  Hooked up my headphones to the front audio connecter and did the same and the left and right are indeed reversed!!!  Just opened the case and swapped over the AUD_FPOUT L/ AUD_RET L with the opposite (R)ight pins and now the left and right balance is correct!
I'd actually been thinking lately that the audio didn't sound quite right.  Enemy appears on the right but I'm sure I heard him on the left.  That explains it.  This is not the the first time I've had a board with transposed pins though.  On my last Gigabyte board the polarity was incorrect on my HDD light and Power led, had to swap them over to get them to work...
Cheers Horseman for pointing this out

  • Front firewire connections

My 845PE Max2 MB gives me 3 IEEE 1394 connections on the board. I am using two of the three available connections for the S-Bracket on the rear (J1394_1 & J1394_2 and they operate OK) and trying to get J1394_3 connected to the front panel. I have an Antec case with six wires to front panel. Here is how I have them connected to J1394_3:
    Pin 1 - TPA +
    pin 2 - TPA -
Pin 3 - Ground (VG is Antec ID)
    Pin 4 - open
    Pin 5 - TPB +
    Pin 6 - TPB -
Pin 7 - Power (VP is antec ID)
    Pin 8 - open
    Pin 9 - key
    Pin 10 - open
It's not working! Ok, what am I doing wrong. Can anybody help?

My buddy had that same problem with his Antec Sonata case, it seems that the front Firewire connection was wired wrong on the case, from the factory.  He had to take the wires out of the connector, and rewire it to work.  Two of the connections were backwards, like the person was looking in a mirror when he did it  Check them out really good.

  • [SOLVED] Front audio panel still not working on K9N Neo V3

I already posted on this here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=113813.0.
I still didn't get front audio panel to work on MSI K9N Neo V3.
Even with my new case; Sharkoon Revenge, it is not working. It wasn't working on my previous noname case too. However, front audio panel on my previous case was working on several other MBs except on this MSI K9N.
Now, I'm using the latest Realtek HD audio driver.  I think it's from February '08. Just as with the driver dowloaded by Vista via Windows Update, anything plugged in front audio panel isn't recognized. In this new version of Realtek driver I can't find this Disable front audio panel option so I can't tell if it is checked or not.
Once more, there is not much to do wrong while connecting. Case front audio panel cabel is the same as on all other cases I've ever seen/had. It's a cable with the same number and position of pins as in all other cases. It fits fine on MSI K9N Neo V3. Rear audio panel is working fine.
    Any solution to this!?

From what I can see from the Sharkoon product page, the front panel connectors of your case are not compliant with the Intel HD Audio Pin Standard.
Do you have a manual for your case that includes Pin/wire definitions for the front audio connectors?
No. There was no manual in package. I never thought I will need one either.
Here is Sharkoon Rebel Pin Assigment; http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/9729/pinslk2.jpg

Have you tried disabling automatic front panel jack detection in the Realtek HD Audio configuration utility?  If you don't know were to find that option, access the tab labeled "Audio I/O" and click on the tool icon.
Yes, I tried disabling it. Two tabs (front audio out and front mic) appeared but none of it works.
Quote from: HenryW on 07-April-08, 03:35:46
From something I read: You can also physically check the audio cable of the front panel audio solution.  If there is a cable connected to Pin 4, you have an HD Audio module; if there is no cable to Pin 4, you have an AC97 module.
I don't really understand this. Could you please check this on Pin Assignment scan I uploaded above!?

  • Front audio with PCI sound card?

Well, the front audio on my Antec P160W worked perfectly with the integrated sound, but I changed to my SoundBlaster Audigy Player because of the HORRIBLE audio quality. Now the front audio ports don't work. What do I need to do to make it work again? I'm not going back to the integrated.
At first I thought that I had to put the connectors for the front audio on the sound card, but the manual of it doesn't show any of those features.

I was wondering that myself. The only thing I think you could possibly do is have both the onboard and the pci sound card enabled and use the onboard sound just for the headphones. I have no tried this yet as I do have the cables connected to the mobo but I have the onboard sound disabled.

  • Audio Connections and K8T NEO FISR2

The audio connection on my Wavemaster case has the following connections:
    R-OUT
    MIC IN
    GND
    L-OUT
They are all 4 single pin connectors.
    The NEO FISR2 has:
    AUD-MIC
    AUD-GND
    AUD-MIC BIAS
    AUD-VCC
    AUD-FPOUT-R
    AUD-RET-R
    HP-ON
    KEY
    AUD-FPOUT-L
    AUD-RET-L
Any ideas as to what the proper connections should be?  The only one I’m sure on is the ground.  I’ve tried a few combinations with no luck.  I’m beginning to wonder if I have a bad daughter card on the Wavemaster or something wrong with the board???

    Thanks SAB and southmike,
I'll try that, though I think I'm having sound problems in general.  I installed an Audigy2 ZS.  I'm getting no sound at all.  Here is what is really strange.  When I disable the Audio 97 option in Bios, Cool and Quite gives me an error saying that a device file can not be found and that cool and quiet is incompatible with my notherboard.  When Audio 97 is re-enabled the message goes away
    Any ideas?

  • Antec Sonata 380W PS enough for MSI Neo and A64???

I'm looking at picking up the MSI board and an A64 3000 for my Antec Sonata case.
My question is that I see a lot of problems not posting as the PS is not enough.
Does anyone know whether or not the Antec 380W PS will be enough?  I will be using 2HDD, a DVD writer, a CD rom drive, and an ATI 9800 pro.
The specs on the PS are:
    +5V  35A
    -5V  .5A
    +12V  18A
    -12V  1A
    +3.3V  28A

  • K8n neo2 + 3200 + fanless 103 + antec sonata?

Has anyone tried putting Thermaltakes Fanless103 together with K8N Neo2 and 3200+ winchester? What kind of temps would that produce (no oc'ing).
    http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/cl-p0019Fanless103/cl-p0019fanless103.htm
I'm thinking of getting that Fannless103 and putting into a Antec Sonata case, to get this rig more quiet. But, I'm having concerns about the 380W Truepower that comes with the case.
    http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=08138
Would the Antec 380W Truepower be able to provide enough juice for my mobo, cpu and X800 Pro card?
Edit: Here are the 380W specs
    http://www.antec.com/specs/true380_spe.html

Thanks for your comments. My quest for a quiet midi-case with 12cm fans is getting more complicated the more I search .. Looks like there are a lot of options as most new cases coming out are fitted with 120mm fans.
Thermaltake Tsunami also seems nice. Paintjob is similar to Sonata, intake fan is properly (?) placed infront.
    http://www.thermaltake.com/xaserCase/tsunami/bna/bna.htm
I like the "non-fancy" model with plain side panel, but you can get it with a "window" model, silver etc. The windowed model is fitted with an additional 90mm fan, which I also don't want to see. Just something simple and quiet .
I'll read some more reviews and add comments here, when I pick something. I'm pretty sure I'll skip the Fanless103.

I don't want to screw anything up and any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and have a great day!!!

    Hi Frankenputer,
I'd also like to thank you for such a fast response! I do have a copy of the manual in my grubby little hands and I did read it. That's how  I was able to identify the motherboard pinouts in my first post. I guess that one slipped by you  . The link you provided is great, it'll come in handy if I ever misplace the manual down the road.
My problem stems from the way the case manufacturer labelled the wires for the front audio connector e.g. using a naming convention that differs from that of the Intel Front Panel I/O Connectivity specification.  Specifically the Mic-VCC, Line-L and Line-R wires.
Stated simply, I was hoping one of the experts here might be able to tell me/confirm if Mic-VCC should be connected to pin 3 - AUD_MIC_BIAS or to pin 4 - AUD_VCC, and if Line-R should be connected to pin 6 and Line-L to pin 10 on the motherboard.
Again, thanks for your reply and have a great day!!!

  • Connecting Sound Card to Antec Sonata front panel line out (Headphone) j

I've tried finding an answer to this, but is there ANY Sound Blaster product that has the capability of connecting to the front panel headphone jack an Antec Sontata case? My current card is a basis Sound Blaster Li've! card, model SB0220, and would upgrade if possible. Thanks for any help.

This perhaps not so easy matter you may suppose. Try Driver Heaven forum for example, to find answer, if there is even a possibility to do this (technically there is but has somebody described it)?

  • Connecting SB Live! 5.1 to front audio po

    Hi!
I have OEM version of SB Li've! 5. that I've bought with Creative Inspire 500 speakers. I also have a case with front audio ports but the problem is that I don't know how to connect soundcard with these ports. I haven't found any info about such possibility in manual but i have only short version of manual 'How to install'. Is there any possibility to connect my SB with the front ports? If there is - how can I do it's
    Regards,
    vacu
    ps.
sorry for my English, I hope you understand me

If you can find a 0-pin socket on Li've! card board, then you can connet your card output internally to the case audio/mic ports by following instructions given @ http://audigy2zshowto.blogspot.com/
NOTE: pin orde may be different on Li've! (instructions are for Audigy 2 Zs, but works well least w/ Audigy 2 card too (I have done this)).

  • Any way to utilize front audio ports on cas

I picked up the Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic today at a local store since the rest of the hardware will be coming in tommorrow (forgot to order a sound card, hence the reason I bought it at the store). Anyways, the case I ordered has a speaker and mic plug in the front of the case. Is there any way to use these things with the Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic? I switch from my speakers to headphones a lot and really find it annoying crawling behind the computer every time I need to. ;P Front audio ports would make things extremely convinient.
So, any possiblities with the X-Fi XtremeMusic?
If that's not possible, could I plug in the headphones to the third output on the card since I'm only running a 4. speaker setup?

Incase anyone else needs it, here are the pinouts:
    - Analog Ground
2 - Analog Headphone Out Left
3 - Audio Backpanel Mute -- short to ground to mute the backpanel (when headphones are plugged in)
4 - Analog Headphone Out Right
    5 - same as #3
6 - Mic input from front panel
    7 - key pin (shouldn't be there)
8 - VREF out -- voltage reference for Mic
9 - MIC IN MUTE -- ground when mic isn't plugged in, +2VDC when mic is plugged in
0 - Audio cable detect -- will be ground when headphones are plugged in (not normally used)
