Front camera shutter wont open anymore after upgrade to iOS5.1

i have a less than a month old ipad2...after upgrading to the iOS 5.1 the front camera shutter wont open anymore...did the reset but it didnt work.will downgrading to the 4.3.3 make it work again?? please help...

You can't downgrade, it's not supported. Have you tried closing the Camera app completely and seeing if it works when you re-open the app ? From the home screen (i.e. not with Camera 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

The most popular thread on this has nearly 25,000 views. Below is the follow-up post I put on that thread and all these related threads.
If it was just a hardware problem, Apple should fix it for all of us. But I can't quite understand how it's a hardware problem when the problem is not common to all my camera apps; the Apple camera app does not work at all now, but I can take regular pics with other camera apps I have.
But still, trying to switch to FaceTime/self-portrait mode results in total failure and the need to restart....if it was just a hardware issue I'd expect it to not work for all apps.
    ADDENDUM TO INITIAL POST:
I initially posted: "keep talking it up on Discussions and send Feedback." Now I encourage us all to SEND FEEDBACK.
Feedback is different than discussions. FEEDBACK is set up to take reports of bugs or problems and just posting on Discussions may not be noticed properly.
To send Apple FEEDBACK for the iPodTouch go tohttp://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodtouch.html
    My Feedback was:
QUOTE: "Dear Apple, many, many problems are being reported about camera malfunctions. One thread in Discussions ishttps://discussions.apple.com/thread/2595775?start=30&tstart=0 that has over 60 complaints and there are several other threads about this, so something is obviously wrong.
Thanks for your attention to this. Apple is a fine company and hope it continues that way. The camera is a key feature of these products: the iPod Touch and iPhone. Not having the camera work properly is ridiculous. Some software fix needs to become available.
    Sincerely... END QUOTE
After you Submit the Feedback you get this message:
Thank you for your feedback on the iPod touch.
We cannot respond to you personally, but please know that your message has been received and will be reviewed by the iPod touch Team
So we won't get personal reply but this needs to be done for the good of us all.

Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears?
The next step would be to restore the iphone as new in iTunes. If that doesn't work, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at the nearest Apple Store.
    Best of luck.

  • Ipod 4th Gen camera shutter wont open

I recently updated the Ipod to ios 6.1.6 but the camera shutter wont open and when i save photos from apps like safari it saves them then instantly deletes the photos I just told safari to save. this is my first apple product and to be honest with this much problems i'm actually considering a more Linux based device. but if the apple community can help me in anyway to fix my expensive device it would be appreciated.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPhone 4: Is there a solution for the front camera shutter not opening?`

I have had this problem for the last few weeks,
the rear camera works fine, but when i select the front camera the shutter remains closed and never opens.
if i open the front camera frst, the rear doesnt open till i restart it
i have restored, set up as new iphone and updated the sftware, but the front camera shutter doesnt open and remains closed, i have read online of others having this problem and some suggest changing the camera, which i got someone to do, yet the same fault remains,
is this a software fault which will be resolved in future updates or does anyomne know how to fix this?
there is no water damage or knocks , but the phone ios out of warranty,
    many thanks

I don't think there's anything more you can do.  No way to know if a future update will help but I'm guessing you have a hardware problem that an update won't cure.

  • Camera shutter wont open

I used the camara in my new phone a couple of times, no problem, I got it on Tuesday 7/9, no today I was going to take a pic and the front camera shutter does not open, or it shows a black screem. I have tried face time and the front camera works. I did reset settings and no luck, I forced the app close and nothing, I have also resarted the phone several times with no luck.
Is it time to go to the apple store for a new one?

    1. Backup and restore the phone in iTunes, using the backup
    2. Restore as new, without using a backup.  If this doesn't help, there is a hardware problem that needs warranty service.

front camera wont open it stays blurry its an ipod touch 5g

Hey Techmeout, If a restore to new did not solve, most likely dealing with a hardware issue. Contact your Apple store or the Apple Genius Bar, set up an appointment and have your iPod evaluated for possible hardware issue. Then go from there.  Good luck. Cheers.

  • IPhoto wont open library after upgrade

I just updated to iLife 11 and iPhoto will not open. I get the following message:
You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
This library must be upgraded by the iPhoto Library Upgrader application before you can use it with iPhoto. Please reinstall iPhoto from your iLife disc.
Where do I get the iPhoto Library Upgrader application from?

    James:
Make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
Hopefully one of these will work and you won't have to resort to Fix #4, starting over with a new library and importing the original files from the current library.
