Front Jack on MacPro not working

Hello everyone,
it's been quite some time since I've last run Arch as my desktop OS at work, but to cut a long story short, let's just say, I migrated back to arch from OSX.
Now I have this rather beefy Mac Pro here at the office, and I've installed Arch on it.
Everything I care about on my work machine runs as intended but there is one last thing I can't get to work: The front audio jack.
This thing has two audio devices, but one is only for HDMI sound:
05:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Juniper HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5700 Series]
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller
The audio device (analog outputs) is working, I've got my headphones connected at the back now...
Anyone have any ideas? How do I switch to the front jack (automatically or manually, I don't really care...)

I am hunting for an answer to this as well, almost 2 years later. There are lots of voodoo answers out there, mostly for Mac Books, but I haven't found anything definitive. Very sad that this problem can be outstanding for years with no one being able to fix it.
I have this 2009 Mac Pro model
I believe that part of the problem is that Apple does things in their own "special" way and the hardware does not behave as drivers expect it to.
This Linux Mint thread from 2011 and this Ubuntu thread from 2010 and this 2008 post report that Mac Book users can get the headphone jack working by using gnome-alsa-mixer to enable the otherwise muted headphone jack. It did not work on my Mac Pro and I don't know why gnome-alsamixer would be any better at this than other alsamixer tools.
There are suggestions in the Ubuntu forums that editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf with appropriate magic words will make the headphone jack work on some Macs. None of the suggestions have worked for me.
This 2012 post suggests that some pin ctl values are wrong
I'll try to keep this thread updated with any new news I learn.

    I have 4s iPhone , I download the iOS 7. Now the front receiver microphone is not working , please help me that how to fix the problem.

    I live in South Africa, and I had the same problem with my iPhone 4.
    After weeks of frustration and swearing, I was in the process of restoring my phone to a previous iOS. To do that you need to turn the "Find my iPhone" option off, since i turned it off, my problem was solved. No need to repair anything or revert back to old iOS.
    ***** that i cant use Find my iPhone, but atleast i can use my phone.

  • Why magic jack apps is not working on my iphone 5?

    why magic jack apps is not working on my iphone 5?

    I have the same problem.  I contacted magic jack, and after more than an hour of waiting, here is the final part of our discussion, before I had to leave to go to work:
    Me:  the magic jack app has worked fine for months unregistered. Never had a problem before. I must go to work now. I will leave the chat box open. if you could, send me a list of possible fixes and I will try to apply them when I get back. Please write in detail. Is there a way that I can get in touch and get a senior rep on right away to handle my problem when I get back, or do I hae to wait again when I call next time?
    Kara: I am one of the senior rep here and in fact one of the supervisors . Here is what you are going to do:
    Kara: Once you register the magicjack app into your Iphone, we can refresh your account connections here manually however if you dont register it, no options in our end to work for your connections since the MJ app is not used to be registered. No worries, we can remove your account if you dont want the service anymore for free.
    +++++++++++++++++
    So, it would seem that either there is a problem that they don't know about, or else magic jack is trying to force everyone to not choose option 3 on the opening screen, the one which allows you to continue to make a call without registering.
    Has anyone received a solution to this problem from magic jack support?

  • Front case audio panel not working

    I just bought a new case but the microphone and phones connectors at front are not working...
    I know I have to connect them to the motherboard but I don't know if 'ts corretly connected cuz the names on the board manual are different from the ones in the case.
    Here are the names in case:
    MIC VCC
    MIC DATA
    GND
    EAR R (x2)
    EAR L (x2)
    The connector on the board is something like this:
    | 9|7|5|3|1|
    |10|8|6|4|2|
    and the board manul as this on it:
    PIN SIGNAL DESCRIPTION
    1 AUD_MIC Front panel microphone input signal
    2 AUD_GND Ground used by analog audio circuits
    3 AUD_MIC_BIAS Microphone power
    4 AUD_VCC Filtered +5V used by analog audio circuits
    5 AUD_FPOUT_R Right channel audio signal to front panel
    6 AUD_RET_R Right channel audio signal return from front panel
    7 HP_ON Reserved for future use to control headphone amplifier
    8 KEY No pin
    9 AUD_FPOUT_L Left channel audio signal to front panel
    10 AUD_RET_L Left channel audio signal return from front panel
    This is how I have connected:
    MIC VCC -> 3
    MIC DATA -> 1
    GND -> 2
    EAR R (x2) -> 5&6
    EAR L (x2) -> 9&10
    It's wrong right? Help...

    I had the same proble double checked all the connections 20 times then I found the problem in software...
    Look in the volume control panel for an option to enable the front jack. You will have to enable advanced controls. Then click the advanced button and check the mic2 select box.
    if that does not fix it for you try this
    MIC VCC -> 3
    MIC DATA -> 1
    GND -> 2
    EAR R (x2) -> 5&6 reverse these (one should say out on it, out should be on 5)
    EAR L (x2) -> 9&10 reverse these (out on 9 here)
    My antec case came nicely labled for me with a thick manual featuring translations of their pin labels to the proper locations. Also It has a standard intel 10 pin connector AND the 7 individual wires if needed... handy huh.
    Get a good case. But good luck.

  • [SOLVED] Front audio panel still not working on K9N Neo V3

    I already posted on this here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=113813.0.
    I still didn't get front audio panel to work on MSI K9N Neo V3.
    Even with my new case; Sharkoon Revenge, it is not working. It wasn't working on my previous noname case too. However, front audio panel on my previous case was working on several other MBs except on this MSI K9N.
    Now, I'm using the latest Realtek HD audio driver.  I think it's from February '08. Just as with the driver dowloaded by Vista via Windows Update, anything plugged in front audio panel isn't recognized. In this new version of Realtek driver I can't find this Disable front audio panel option so I can't tell if it is checked or not.
    Once more, there is not much to do wrong while connecting. Case front audio panel cabel is the same as on all other cases I've ever seen/had. It's a cable with the same number and position of pins as in all other cases. It fits fine on MSI K9N Neo V3. Rear audio panel is working fine.
    Any solution to this!?

    From what I can see from the Sharkoon product page, the front panel connectors of your case are not compliant with the Intel HD Audio Pin Standard.
    Do you have a manual for your case that includes Pin/wire definitions for the front audio connectors?
    No. There was no manual in package. I never thought I will need one either.
    Here is Sharkoon Rebel Pin Assigment; http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/9729/pinslk2.jpg

    Have you tried disabling automatic front panel jack detection in the Realtek HD Audio configuration utility?  If you don't know were to find that option, access the tab labeled "Audio I/O" and click on the tool icon.
    Yes, I tried disabling it. Two tabs (front audio out and front mic) appeared but none of it works.
    Quote from: HenryW on 07-April-08, 03:35:46
    From something I read: You can also physically check the audio cable of the front panel audio solution.  If there is a cable connected to Pin 4, you have an HD Audio module; if there is no cable to Pin 4, you have an AC97 module.
    I don't really understand this. Could you please check this on Pin Assignment scan I uploaded above!?

  • Front end Exceptions is not working

    Hi Experts,
    Front end version BI7.0
    I have a below scenario:
    There are two calculated Key figures in my query ,lets say A & B.
    I have to show CKF A in RED if A is greater than B.
    To achieve this above ; I have created a formula KF to compare A & B.
    The formula will give either 1 or 0.
    1 - If A is greater than B ,else 0
    Then i created a new exception as below:
    in General tab - Alert level  : Bad3  Equal = 1.
    Definition tab - Exception is defined on Turns = formula KF
    Display tab = Excpetion affects data cell and selected following structure element = and selected KF A
    Cell restriction tab = Exception affectes everything
    But this exception is working only for formula KF and making RED only to formula KF..But it is not working on KF A...
    And CKF A is not shown as RED ?
    Please let mw know what i have missed?
    Or Is there any other way to get this?
    Thanks..
    Naween

    Hi Naween,
    I dont thin so you did any mistake . For all three figures , A, B , KF the scaling factor and decimal places should be same. inshort the properties shouls same .
    while testing this plz do not hide the KF .
    hope this will help you .

  • Save front panel to bmp - not working anymore in LV7

    Hi Folks:
    I had this VI working perfectly in LV6.1. When Labview picture format fxs changed in lv7, I modified the VI to what I believe is correct but cannot get a front panel to save to bmp, png, jpg, or htm format as I had been easily doing before. I am attaching an llb and request someone test on their system. test.vi is the top level VI to run.
    Thanks,

    I got this to work after a couple of tries. For some reason it did not work at first then after I opened all your subs and closed them all it worked fine and continued to work fine. HMM very interesting. attached is a version I did very quickly and worked the first time but really you are doing nothing different.
    See if this works on your machine

  • Front video camera is not working on my iPad4.

    Just recently noticed my front video camera not working when I tried to facetime with a friend.  They cannot see me, and a blank square comes up as our picture.  When I open facetime the screen is just black.  If I open the camera, then switch to video, then switch to front the shutter closes and never opens.
    I have tried to restart and also reboot.  Neither have worked.
    Thanks.

    Have you tried closing the Camera app via the taskbar and seeing if it works when you re-open the app ? From the home screen (i.e. not with the Camera app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

  • Audigy 2 zs platinum front drive bay mic2 not worki

    hey all I finally got my AD_EXT wire to make my audigy 2 card work with the front dri've bay but the problem now is I am in vista ultimate 32bit, all drivers installed right, all cables plugged in but the mic2 is not working....... I'm using a dynamic mic Samson Q7 microphone with the XLR cable. This microphone I heard does not need a preamp so it should powered up.
    I called creative and the guy supposed to send me a article to read to fix it but so far no luck in my email about it.
    anyone staff members here know the link to that article?

    Maybe this will help out:? Under Control Panel ---> Sounds and Audio Devices --> Hardware I have the following list. CD-RW SOHR-5239SDVD_RW ND-3550AMPU-40 Compatible MIDI DeviceUnsupported Standard Game Port - Location: on PCI BusCreative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM) - Location PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 5, Device 7, Funtion 0)Creative Game Port - Location: PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 5, device 7, function )Audio CodecsLegacy Audio DriversLegacy Video Capture DevicesVideo Codecs?All of them are listed as "Working Properly". The MPU-40, the unsupported game port, creative SB Audigy 2 ZS, Audio codecs, legacy Audio Drivers, and the Creative Game port were all uninstalled prior to my latest re-installation. When the windows install wizard popped up, I cancelled, so everything on that list was installed using the latest creative ZS Platinum driver for x64.

  • Sticky This : Surround Sound coming out of front speakers and Subwoofer not work

    The problem with Creative forum moderators and the like is that they have used their products so often that they forget the basic really simplistic things and as a result have a lot of frustrated customers (As indicated by the number of?problem posts?when this really need not be the case)?After building myself a media center with Windows XP (Yes the best DVD backup software is made for XP) my?X-Fi card Surround, Centre and Front Speakers were all mapped together for sound. After searching through the forums at many unanswered posts with similar problems I eventually came across the answer a few months back after a few days of reading this forums posts. The problem arises because of the Windows default settings which need to be changed when insatalling the sound card. Which I believe a good driver should be doing anyway. This is the menu path:StartControl PanelSounds and Audio DevicesAudioAdvancedPerformanceHardware Acceleration slide indicator should be on Full, then Apply?At this stage I got all the Speakers to work independently except the Subwoofer?I am not one to sit and study a user manual comprehensi'vely before attempting installation. I normally look for any serious warnings or precautions adhere to them and then slap the thing in and usually everything just happens in the correct sequence or that is how it should be with a new piece of hardware anyway. I use the manual more for problem solving. Anyways my point is that I have not read the manual in depth yet but all must be aware that you need?4-part jacks to get the most out of your?X-Fi sound card. The extra?points are required?in the Center/Subwoofer and Rear Speaker jacks because the extra connections within these jacks are used for SPDIF out on the Center/Subwoofer Jack and Side speakers for your 7. system on the rear speaker jack. (I dunno why they don't just put in 2 extra jacks that are the normal 3-part jacks .....or perhaps it's a way to force you to buy creative speakers which come with very rare?4-part jacks)?The subwoofwer can only be made to work if you pull out the 3-part jack just enough to make the correct contact with the card that gives you subwoofer signal.

    @tryignan ,
    Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forum.  I have one question have you tried doing a system restore back to before this problem started.  Something has updated or changed in the drivers or Operating system to cause this.
    Have you removed both audio drivers and just ran with the AMD audio driver.
    Now did you try this when you removed your drivers.  Try booting into safemode and remove the two audio drivers.
    Download your software and drivers for your system and save to dvd or usb memory stick.
    Run the Recovery manager to restore software and drivers to factory spec.
    Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8)
    Now if that fails try doing the full Windows 8 recovery.
    Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8)
    Please post back and let me know if this was of any help.
    Thank you again for posting and have a great day and a happy new year.

  • IPod Touch 5th gen headphone jack and battery not working properly

    Yesterday my iPod touch 5th gen's battery started draning at an incredible rate. Won't last longer then 1 or 2 hours now. And add onto it the headphone jack stopped working properly. It's now only plays in one ear, it's all static over the sound it's supposed to play. I baby my iPod. This all happened out of the blue. What do I do to fix it?

    Saraa22 , the same recommendation was given over a year earlier:
    Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Saraa22 wrote:
    If anyone has this same problem with their Ipod touch 5g headphone jack. I found a way to fix it. I did everything of the above but nothing actually worked . But this is what worked!
    First reset your Ipod by pressing down the on/off button and the home button at the same time for 10 seconds until you see the apple icon
    Then after it turns back on : Go to settings then press on general. Then press on accessibility  and scroll down and make sure MONO AUDIO is on!
    This will definitely fix the problem.

  • Front Row movie trailers not working

    Hi all,
    Is anyone else experiencing trouble with the movie trailers on Front Row?
    Whenever I select Movie Trailers I immediately get the message "The movie trailer server is not responding" instead of the list of movies.
    This happens immediately as though Front Row hasn't actually bothered to look for the server at all but has simply decided that it isn't available.
    The situation is the same for all users on the machine.
    I've trashed com.apple.frontrow.plist but this didn't help - not surprising really as the only data I've seen stored in there is the last selected Front Row mode (movies,music,etc)
    While researching this problem I found out that the actual address of the movie server is http://www.apple.com/trailers/home/xml/current.xml and sure enough if I access this address in Safari it works absolutely fine.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks in advance, I really miss those trailers!
