Front panel audio - Headphone detection is reve

When I plug headphones in the intel hd front panel audio port the speaker settings change to 5. when I remove the headphones the creative console speaker settings change to headphones. This is functioning completely opposite of how it is intended. Is there a fix for this issue?Does anyone else have this problem?

I wish I could be of the help you really need, but you did ask if others are having no problems with the front panel jacks. I'm using the XTreme gamer card with a Gigabyte 3D Aurora case, and the front panel jacks work as expected, although I did have to insert and remove the plug many times in quick succession to "clean" the internal contacts in the jack before it would work properly. I've had no problem since. However, I never had a reverse effect like you mention. That is indeed a mystery, but I doubt that it is a software problem. Phil

I am trying to connect the front panel Audio(Headphone Jack and Mic) I front panel wires are labeled R-In, R-Out, L-In, L-Out, Mic Bias and Mic and GND.The MBconnectors are labeled port 1L, GND, Port 1R, Presence #, Port 2R, Sense1_Return, Sense_Send, Key, Port 2L, Sense2_Return.
Can this be done?

I quess you guys got a AC97 configuration wire and have HD audio on board.
I bough a new case some days ago and that one had a HD audio and a AC97 wire.
you guys just cant connect it without the right wire.
You can try to manualy put it in the right configuration because HD and AC97 use the same wires but other sequence.
but I quess you cant pull them out of the jack so maybe you need to get a emty one and cut the wires off and put them in the right holes or something
or just buy a new case

Front panel audio wont mute rear audio when headphones are in.

As the title says my sound isn't muted on the rear speakers when I plug in my headphones. The front panel audio didn't work at first, it said in the manual to disable front panel jack detection. Once I did this the audio came through the front panel, but is not muted at the rear, so I have sound from both the headphones that are plugged into the front and the speakers that are in the rear. The option to mute the rear output when headphones are plugged in is enabled, the speakers are plugged into the green jack, the rear speakers are set to stereo line out and the front is set to headphones.
Can anyone help, at the moment I have to keep unplugging the speakers to listen through the headphones without disturbing anyone else, which with the placement of my computer is not convenient.

I have used the link, but the drivers just install the same one I already had (both the rar and the exe do this), even if I remove the previous drivers via programs and features. Unfortunately the problem still persists, I am really stumped as to what is causing it. I am not sure if I have AC'97 or HD Audio connectors on the front of the case, as the case came with absolutely no documentation. I have provided a link to the manufacturers website if that could help in anyway.

Front panel audio jack is not working on K9N Neo V2

My front panel audio jack is not working on K9N Neo V2. I check the JAUD1 cable and it appears to be connected to the front panel audio jack. My soundcard driver cannot detect any gadgets when I plug it in the front panel. My audio drivers and BIOS are up to date. Is there any known solution to this? My computer is only a few months old and I have not tried the front audio jack until recently. I'm on Vista home premium btw.
Also, I've got another problem, my processor is AMD 64x2 4400+ overclocked to 2.63Ghz. I've been using that clock value ever since I built this computer and stress tested the processor and found that it would not cause any problems like hanging or overheating. However, I recently decided the need for AMD's Cool & Quiet technology and enabled it. It caused BSODs every few days or per week that didn't happen before. I tried it with the default clock value and it still causes BSODs. Can someone help me?

MSI P965 Platinum - Front Panel Audio u/s

Finally after managing to get XP Pro SP1 CD to install, I have a stable system, and thanks to those whom freely gave advice.
But we hit the next issue with this motherboard, the front panel audio.
Firstly the Realtek detection software doesn't detect anything plugged into the front panel.
Connected the cables as follows from my Coolermaster Stacker case;
mobo = case wires/colour
pin1 aud-mic = mic-in - yellow
pin2 aug-gnd = gnd - black
pin3 aud-mc-bas = mic-pwr - red
pin4 aud-vcc = empty
pin5 aud-fpout-R = R out - green
pin6 aud-ret-R = R ret - green
pin7 hp-on = empty
pin8 key
pin9 aud-fpout-L = L out - white
pin0 aud-ret-L = L ret - white
The above pin out gives nothing at all, but audio from rear ports on the computer motherboard is fine.
I also tried the following,
where the microphone wires were left disconnected, therefore just the speakers plugged into the front panel audio header
mobo = case wires/colour

The above still gave me no audio out from the front panel.
Intrestingly if I leave the front panel audio header blank, I still get rear audio fine, where I would have expected to have put jumpers across the L and R outputs as is the norm.
I have removed the front panel from the computer to ensure that the wires terminate OK, and have not been pulled out/off.
Have I plugged in the wires correctly?
Is there some hidden setting that I have missed, I admit that I do not like the Realtek audio software?
I cannot find any way to boost the microphone input since Realtek audio software has been installed.
One day case/mobo manufactures will use a standard for the front panel headers and front panel audio headers, and we will have a simple single plug to insert, rather than a group of single fiddly connectors that have to be attached to a header that was at the last minute attached to the motherboard as far away from the front of the case, and in the darkest most fiddle corner.
Oh well......

AaronYuri - you're are so right there my friend. I just pity Joe User whom might attempt such a move themselves.
In the end my entire issue was software related, and that has to be blamed on Realteks software, far too many options approached from far too many different angles. Audio is really simple, plug your cables in, and it should just work, certainly in the simple case of 2-1 speakers and a microphone. Why exactly it took a couple of hours to figure out how to get the front panel microphone to be seen in the first place, let alone any signal, is beyond me.
So my cables were all connected correctly as per the MSI manual, confirmed by my Abit manual and other post here and on other forums.
In the Realtek MSI audio software, on the I/O Audio tab, connector settings, I had to select 'disable front panel jack detection' and 'mute rear panel output when front headphones plugged in'. The other option here 'enable auto pop up...' is unchecked.
After this the Realtek software mentioned something about a new profile had been set up?
I then went to Windows Control Panel, Sounds and Audio devices, and selected the voice tab, on this page I selected 'mic IN at front panel [pink]' from the drop down list for Voice Recording'. Proceeded to 'test hardware' and the microphone is now working. This option to select the input in the drop down list was not available before.
All a bit of POKE and HOPE.
But we seem to be there.

Front Panel Audio connection help needed

I own an MSI 790GX-G65 with Realtek HD audio, installed in an NZXT Tempest case.
Using the AC-97 plug from the case into the MB JAUD1 connection I get front panel headphone audio, but no mic input or automatic detection from the Realtek manager.
In short: Which plug(s) do I use on the MB socket JAUD1? I will detail my NZXT front panel connections.

Ok. I checked and confirmed... I DID use HD Audio in JAUD1. I only thought I was using AC97... The problem still is:
Front Panel Headphones: Okay.
Front Panel Mic: Not detected at all.
Audio driver version is 6.0.1.6316
Audio Controller HD Audio
Audio Codec: ALC889
DX11
Window 7

Front Panel Audio Issues on both Z97 and X99

Hello,
I am an owner of a Z97 PC Mate and a X99s SLI Plus Mobo.
On both of these mobos, with the latest realtek drivers I cannot get front panel audio working.
I have also tried the MSI drivers for each mobo from the product pages.
I have "Disable front panel jack detection" enabled on both. If I disable this, it shows the jacks not being utilized.
The realtek hd manager shows that both the front panel headphone and mic jack are being utiliized, even with nothing is plugged in and if I have the front panel header disconnected from the mobo. On each model I made sure that HD Audio is enabled in the UEFI.
I feel that since I am having the issue on two seperate products that there is a similar issue between each that I cannot figure out. I do not have this issue on my ASUS Z77 Sabertooth.

P35 Platinum front panel audio with Antec P180 case?

God I have a headache after reading all those "front panel audio" threads. Why can't mb's all use the same freaking pinouts!!!!
The case doesn't have a HD front panel.
MB pinouts are:
1. Mic_L (MIC Left Channel)
2. GND
3. MIC_R (MIC Right Channel)
4. PRESENCE#
5. LINEout_R (analog port right channel)
6. MIC_JD (MIC jack detect)
7. Front_JD
8. NC (empty)
9. LINEout_L (analog port left channel)
10. LINEout_JD
Case Front Panel connector is a preconfigured block with pigtails hanging off in case it doesn't match up.

glaring differences are the ground and the MIC connectors.

They do have the same pinouts. There are two standards is the reason for two different pinouts. It's just that your MB is Intel HD and your case is AC-97.

I have a K8NGM2-FID based pc running XP Prof. I have a Chieftec LCX-01B-B-SL case with front panel audio. This panel is compatible with AC'97 standard. PIN Assigment of the internal Frontpanel connectors for Audio is below described:
I red in manual of my mobo:
"The JAUD1 front panel audio connector allows you to connect to the front panel audio and is compliant with Intel® Front Panel I/O Connectivity Design Guide."
I red Front Panel I/O Connectivity Design Guide (downloaded from intel site) and:
"2.3.3 Audio Design Considerations
Front panel audio design in conjunction with motherboard audio header design is dependant upon the type of audio CODEC being used on the motherboard. In the past, AC97 Integrated Audio CODECs were prevalent. With the introduction of Intel High Definition Audio, many new motherboard designs are switching over to High Definition (HD) audio CODECs. Designersshould note that AC’97 and Intel High Definition Audio front panel motherboards and I/O cardsimplementations are different and may not be directly compatible or interchangeable
CAUTION
It is strongly recommended that motherboard designers only use Intel® HD Audio analog front panel dongles with the Intel® HD Audio analog front panel header to insure that the jack detection and dynamic re-tasking capability is preserved. If these jumpers are not installed, the rear panel line out connector will be inoperative and microphone input pins 1 and 3 will be left floating, which could lead to elevated back panel microphone noise and cross talk.
NOTE
Motherboards that have the foot print for a front panel header, but depopulate the front panel audio header must have 0 ohm resistors as options to connect the FP_OUT and FP_RETURN signals. These resistors must be installed when the header is depopulated to insure audio is routed
to the back panel."
Can I connect this front panel audio to front Panel Audio Connector (JAUD1) of K8NGM2-FID (Realtek High Definition Audio)? Will it be work correctly?

No I don't think it will, I had the same problem with my Coolermaster Centurion case, the pin out configs are different. I just left it disconnected, and didn't worry about it

K9N Neo Front Panel Audio

Hi all -
I have a K9N Neo (MS-7260 v2.0) that I am trying to wire in the front panel audio from my case. I'm having some major problems trying to figure out how to match up my case wires with those on the MSI board. I'm hoping that one of you experts will have the answer.
My case has the following signals for a microphone and headphone connection:
MIC GND
MIC PWR
MIC IN
HPOUT R
HPOUT -R
HPOUT L
HPOUT -L
HPOUT GND
In other words, the mic has power, ground, signal; and the headphone has two wires for each channel (+/-) and a common ground.
Now, here is the listed pinout from the manual for JAUD1. I could only find the manual for a PCB v1.0, so if that is the issue then please help me find the right manual:

Sure it is not life or death for your problem, but Moderators here are under death penalty not to help people who don't describe their complete system. Motherboard we know. Processor, memory, hard disks, PSU and it's max. amperes and a few other things remain unknown.

975x platinum front panel audio

hi all. ive read every thing on this forum i could find, but can not get the front audio panel connectors to work. my case(sunbeamtech silent storm) has the single molded connector that only fits one way on mobo. in the msi audio control panel, nothing happens when i plug in mic or headphones, or if i disable detection of the jacks. im at the end of my rope. please help!

I had the same problems. I assume that the "AC97" jack is plugged in to the JAUD1 connector of your mainboard. You have to plug in the other jack (HD Audio) to the JAUD1 connector, after this the front panel audio should work.

No sound front panel audio with newest CMI 9880L driver

So basically I plugged in a headphone the other day on the front panel and noticed the audio jack randomly stopped working. They worked for about 3 years and the last changes I've made was updating the CMI 9880L driver to the newest one on the MSI website for my mainboard( 915P combo), about a month ago. So I thought the problem was the new driver, I went back to the CD that came with the board and installed the audio drivers I had before, It also didnt work!. I went to the hardware manager and clicked on the ROLL BACK driver button and it installed a microsoft driver, this time the front audio jacks DID work, this means is not a hardware problem. What is going on with the new C-MEDIA driver? what should I do to restore sound to the front jacks?
ps. I messed around with the BIOS options(switching between Azalia and AC97) and nothing happened.

The point is, that the same output can be used either for AC-97 front panel audio (what you have on your chassis) or for High Definition Audio (which I've never seen). The board seems to differentiate between these two by means of the PIN #4 (Presence), which you just leave disconnected in your case.
Microphone should use PINs 1, 2 and 3:
1 - Mic In, 2 - Ground, 3 - Mic Power
Audio output should use PINs 5, 6, 9 and 10:
5 - R-Out, 6 - R-RET, 9 - L-Out, 10 - L-RET.
After you'll have connected the PINs to the audio connectors, do not forget to turn off the jack detection in the "Realtek HD Audio Manager" as I described before.

Yet another front panel audio thread

I am having problems with my front panel audio, rear audio works fine. I have read as many posts as I could find on the subject and still can't get my headphones to work. PC specs in signature. BIOS version is 7.3.
The case provides the following wires.
EAR L
EAR R
RETURN L
RETURN R
MIC IN
MIC VCC
GROUND
I have read the Intel Front Panel I/O Connectivity Design document from http://www.formfactors.org/developer%5Cspecs%5CA2928604.pdf and it doesn't seem like my case connectors follow the HD audio scheme. I connected according to the AC'97 scheme (except that I only have a single ground plug so I placed it in pin 4 of JAUD1). The headphones do not work. I disabled the Azalia/AC'97 BIOS setting to enable AC'97 audio support and neither the headphones nor the rear speakers work. I have checked the Realtek audio console's Audio I/O tab and unchecked the "Disable front panel jack detection" checkbox. The audio console does not show any headphones plugged in with the Azalia/AC'97 BIOD setting enabled or disabled. I think that I have my case wires plugged into JAUD1 incorrectly. Any suggestions? just for fun....
hook the front panel stuff back up inside your computer...
Open the Realtek Audio Manager..
Click the Audio I/O tab..
just to the right of where it says Analog, there is a little blue dot...
Click it and click to disable front jack detection..
Then click the Front headphone picture on that page (make sure your headphones are plugged in)
make sure headphone is selected..
Do the same for the microphone...
then click the Mixer tab..
scroll along till you see Front Green In and Front Pink In
Make sure they aren't Muted and raise the volume level up..
If you have a microphone plugged into one of the jacks, click the tiny button to the right of the mute button to boost your mic...
Not sure if thats your problem but ..
that control panel is a nightmare...

I simply got me an inexpensive case for my last upgrade since I also needed front panel USB 3 and up to date card reader in addition to the HD audio. My case was only $10 more (free shipping at time of purchase ) than the front panel module I needed so I got the new case you see in my signature instead.
