Please help me... When I activate front row it launches and soon after approx, 10sec after, the machine turns off!
I am running:

Try repairing permissions as well as the disk from the Mac OS X install disk.

  • Front Row - Can you dim/turn off screen?

Is there anyway to havethe screen dim or off when running Front Row, ie so can use it in a bedroom and not have the glow?

Use keys F14 and F15 to adjust brightness "just prior" to using front row. At least those are my defaults.

  • Is there a Front Row music preference to turn off the song time bar?

In fact, are there ANY preferences for the display of the music info at all?

I don't believe the auto correct feature is turned off after 3x crossing it out in the autocorrect box. I constantly abbreviate "with" as "w/" and it always auto corrects me to an "a" without the slash. This has happened probably 20 times so my iPhone isn't learning anything from me. I have many other examples and am also frustrated with this feature. But, I am getting used to using the x box on the auto correct now.

I too have the same problem.  The audio drop out of sync in about 5 sec in not uncommon for the audio to be 30+ sec behind video.  Apple needs to fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   its a joke,  my iphone is all messed up after the last update as well.  at one time not to long ago apple products and software were top rated, not so much any more, more and more problems are showing up and apple is unwilling or unalbe to fix the many issues.  Apple needs to fix the audio sync problem, it not the computer hardware or other software it ITUNES!!!!,  there is no workaround other then hitting pause and hitting pause and hitting pause to temp fix the problem.

  • Finder shows wrong disk space (Time Machine turned off)

    Hi,
I have a disk space issue with my Mid '11 MacBook Air. The actual free space in my Hard Drive is much more than the space what Finder reports.
After trying almost everything i knew (Turned off Time Machine, used Disk Utility/DaisyDisk/OmniDiskSweeper), I have no success so it is starting to be annoying.
Here is the result of the du -chxd 1 / command (as root):

There may be a directory problem.  Try Verifying your SSD, per #6 in Using Disk Utility.

  • Time Machine turns off Computer

On two occasions, when Time Machine shows its about half way complete in backing up, when I come back to check on its progress, my MBP will be completely shutdown.  When I try to turn it back on, it takes a few times for it to actually turn on.  So what's going on?  Why would Time Machine be turning off my MBP?  Oh, and it doesn't complete the backup.

    javiergasca,
boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it get past the black screen now?

  • Time Machine turned off... and my Mac keeps asking for the TM volume!!

I turned off Time Machine because I am away from home and not using the external HD, but I keep receiving an annoying message: "Time Machine could not complete the backup... bla bla bla volume not found".
The funny thing is that I have even clicked "NONE" in the volume window before setting Time Machine off... and still TM doesn't stop working.
The message appears almost once an hour...and I can't watch a movie or do a presentation without having to click return on the keyboard to get rid of the error window.
    Any suggestions?
Don't tell me to switch TM off... it's off!!!!!!

The easiest way is to select a disk temporarily, then turn TM Off.
Just don't use one if the message says TM will reformat, as it will do that immediately.
have you given that a shot ?
As of your experience, do you know any other setting file related to TM other than this plist in the root Library? I will look in the user lib as well...
sorry, no. i use my TC for TM backups so i never had a reason to turn TM off permanently.
    good luck !

  • Front Row keyboard function

I have a laptop and occasionally I do a key combination that triggers Front Row. I don't use Front Row on this computer, is there anyway to turn off Front Row?

You can turn the keyboard function off if you go to *System Preferences* then click *Keyboard & Mouse*. From here click Keyboard Shortcuts and deselect "Hide and show Front Row".

  • Iconcertcal will not let you open Itunes through Front Row

Itunes has not been opening through Front Row. I just got off the phone with tech support, and it was because of an Itunes download called iconcertcal. As soon as I removed it, everything worked fine! I don't see it listed on the Apple website anymore, maybe they removed it.

will that delete all of my music, videos, games, etc off of my computer?

  • Downgrade Front Row to 1.3 under Leopard...

If you guys like Leopard, but hate the new Front Row...then just downgrade Front Row.
Move 'front row.app' away from the /System/Library/CoreServices/ (to a safe folder if you want to go back)
    Download:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/frontrow131.html
    Mount image
    Choose 'show package content'
    Copy the Front Row.app file
    Paste it in /System/Library/CoreServices/
Boom...front row 1.3 on Leopard. You don't even need to reboot.

That download does NOT contain any file named "Front Row.app".
Yes it does. It's inside Archive.pax.gz.
In addition, the entire download is 4.5MB and the Front Row.app is 7.6MB alone.
You have to unzip .dmg files to know how large the compressed package is. The .pkg file in the download is 5.5MB and Front Row.app inside Archive.pax.gz is 7.7MB.
    EDIT:
Rune Staunskær: You are giving bad advice. Even if what you are suggesting works, it's more than likely that what will happen to people who downgrade in this manner will be exactly what happened to almost everyone who used the hack to install Front Row on unsupported machines last year when the OS was updated: Loss of functionality; loss of the use of other apps, and loss of menu bar items.
When you post hacks like this, you really should be prepared to inform people of the inherent risks (which you appear not to understand). The time it will take to recover from the problems this will likely cause later on makes your suggestion counterproductive, IMHO.

  • HT200154 How do you turn off the apple tv

Does the apple tv have a off the apple tv?

    Here's How:
To put the Apple TV into Standby mode, click the Menu button on the remote until the main menu is onscreen.
Scroll down to the last option in the left column, Settings. Choose it.
Scroll down to the last option in right column, Standby. Choose it.
You'll know the Apple TV is in standby mode because the white light on the front of the case will turn off and it will stop sending video to your TV.
Wake it up by clicking any button on the remote.
