Front Row crashes my Macbook Pro

When playing music in Front Row, the system will freeze approximately 10 to 15 minutes into play time. Time is not consistent. My Screen Saver is disabled. Any ideas? I have all of the latest updates as of May 11, 2008.

JD I have a similar problem instead of freezing the screen goes black and I can't get it back unless I reboot the system, I can still hear the audio but I have no video at all. Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve or work around this???
Thanks, Roger

  • Front Row in the MacBook Pro

    Hey
Is the version of Front Row shipped in Macbook Pro the same as the one in the new Intel MacMini? The Front row description in the apple site http://www.apple.com/macmini/frontrow.html talks about "Let Mac mini and Front Row entertain you by playing songs, slideshows, and videos from other computers in the house"
The reason i am asking is becoz i want to know if one can use the FrontRow In the MacBook Pro to see my Photos, Music, videos that is stored in my PPC MacMini instead of porting the whole collection from the Macmini to the Macbook Pro?

Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

I don't have my MBP yet but from what I gathered the versions are the same and include Bonjour that allows you to share media and files from one OS X machine to another without actually have to copy the files from one computer to another. It should 'just work' as Apple says.

  • Front Row issues with MacBook Pro?

I just bought my MacBook Pro today and transferred all my files from my old Mac via firewire. I run Front Row, and it says "an error has occurred" every time i try and play any playlist OTHER than the playlists of stuff bought from iTunes... any ideas?
Also --- how do I NOT make it shuffle?
    Thanks!

    ohhhh
No, actually, I leave my folders somewhere else. That must be why, because my downloads ARE there!
Another question then...if you guys know...I reinstalled Entourage, and I'm now told that I can't access that identity with this version of Entourage!
    Thanks, you guys are awesome.

  • Front Row disappears from MacBook Pro

I found Front Row is not launching. I tried running the updater but it says FR is not installed on my machine!
The remote is paired and can control the volume and tracks on iTunes.
I have repaired permissions, shut down, restarted etc but no luck.
    Any solutions, anyone?

Try pressing Command ( key) and Esc...thats the keyboard shortcut for Front Row.
I was having difficulties accessing Front Row using the remote after pairing it and having the MBP sleep. I believe I have solved this by unpairing the remote (Security in System Preferences) and restarting.
    Hope this helps!

  • Recently, PS CS5 keeps crashing my MacBook Pro as soon as I start working.

Lately, PS CS5 seems to be the villain crashing my MacBook Pro 10.6.8. It doesn't happen with other software. I have run Diagnostics which didn't find any issues. I have upped the RAM on PS to almost 95%. I am thinking of buying new RAM but would like to avoid that if I can. thx.

Reboot the computer holding the option key (just like Capt Fred says) select OS X Lion as the Startup Disk in System Preferences
If you select the Startup Disk of Lion and reboot and still have a issue, it's likely you have a corrupt System Preferences plist file and it's not saving your changes. Please report that if's your issue, I'll show you how to recreate that file again.
    You can also
Reboot the computer holding the command (4 leaf clover looking) and the r keys down, you'll boot into the Lion Recovery Partition.
You can use Disk Utility to select and First AID >Repair and Repair Permissions.
See if you can boot normally or not. If not then:
    For File Recovery
Your going to need a blank external hard drive equal too or slightly larger than your internal drive.
Your also going to need a strong, fast, stable Internet connection to re-install Lion from Apple's servers, and your AppleID and password.
Hold command r and get into Lion Recovery Partition and use Disk Utility (careful) to select your external drive
Erase>Security option > Zero all Data, wait as it takes sometime to finish and checks the drive.
The Partition tab > click box, 1 partition, option GUID, format OS X Extended Journaled and give it name "External Lion" and click Apply.
    Next Quit Disk Utility
Install Lion onto the external drive reboot the computer and hold the option key down, select the external drive to boot from and setup the same user name as before on the internal drive.
Now access the internal drive of Lion and grab your files.
You can use the same procedure to erase Lion on the internal drive and reinstall Lion, all your programs and files from the external drive.

Outlook 2011 slow, clunky and keeps crashing with macbook pro os x 10.8.4 - any hints??  ta

You might look in your User Library for Outlook .plist(s). They probably start with com.microsoft.
    Quit Outlook.
Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences.  Move the .plist(s) to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Flash player crashing my macbook pro

    I have a late 2007 mbp 3,1.
Playing flash video *always* crashes my macbook pro, not immediately but after a few flash player clips. It does not crash the browser but the whole system, and I get a gray screen telling me in different languages I need to hold down the power button to turn off and restart my mac. I have spent hours trying to track down why this happened but to no avail.
The *only workaround* I know is to use the flash player marked flashplayer10r45_2. I have tried all other versions and even excitedly all beta versions, but this problem remains unresolved. And now Firefox 4 won't even accept this version anymore.
    - Is anyone else experiencing this?
-- Do you have a workaround? (one to force FF4 to use the old player or to prevent crashes with any player)

I seem to have solve my issue and wrote it up here http://submanifolds.blogspot.com/2011/04/coolbook-on-macbook-pro-15-22-ghz.html
Long  story short: I use coolbook, and my settings worked for all programs  under heavy loads, but not for flash content, I think that switching cpu  frequencies went a little too fast and the cpu voltage switching could  not keep up, but this is just a guess. I solved it by increasing the  voltages for the upper frequencies a bit and now my computer does not  crash anymore when playing flash. The flash plugin does crash  occasionally, but I consider this normal since I have never seen it  crashing on its own without taking down the whole system with it.
    I hope this helps (anybody)

  • Front row crashes on particular Video_TS file stored on other Mac

Hello, I have an iMac with some soft copies of movies I own. I use the iMac to serve up Video_TS folders to several other Macs in my home. I notice that on all of the Macs (including the iMac hosting the shared folders,) if front row ever crashes when reading the file or anything interrupts the initial read causing it to exit early, that folder will never be readable my that Mac again. No matter what I do there seems to be some kind of cached file that makes front row crash when I try to read that same file again.
I can login as a different user on the same Mac and it will work. Is there a user specific cache for front row that can be cleared? Thanks for any advice, pointers or assistance. Joel

Can you play the same video_ts folders using the regular DVD Player application? Or do you get (maybe) a more detailed error?

The third row on my MacBook Pro keyboard is not responding is there anything I can do

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • Front row crashing

For some reason front row just started crashing, it only crashes when i choose 'movies' from the video section. I checked the crash log but it doesnt really give me something that points me to why FR is crashing.
    Any ideas?

I have this problem consistently. Front Row running in the background taking up ~%96 of the processor capacity. I can see this through the system monitor widget. However, Front Row does not show up under the Apple --> Force Quit menu. It's like a hidden process? (I didn't know mac's hid their processes). Sometimes I can get back into Front Row and use the "apple-Q" force quit command, and that will bring me back to desktop and everything works fine and the processor capacity is released. I can then even get back into Front Row and it will work just fine until the next unexpected front-row crash.
Unfortunately, sometimes when I am at the desktop and, having noticed that Front Row is crashing in the background, *I cannot get back into Front Row* either by apple remote or "Apple-Esc". And as I said, Front Row does not show up under Apple->ForceQuit. So I am forced to restart the computer.
Note: Front Row crashes at LEAST everyday, about every 3rd time I use it. I haven't confirmed this, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what type of media has been played under Front Row to cause a crash. I'm kind'a hoping it's a bug that's secretly fixed in the next OS update
