Front row default song order

Hi,
my mac mini is connected to my TV anf this is really great !
But (yes there s a but !) there s 2 things i don't understand :
- when front row create its playlist in itunes, the order is by song id, so if i want to listen all albums of an artist, the order is : album 1 song 1, album 2 song 1, album 1 song 2, album 2 song 2 ... that s really a pitty, it should be better (in my opinion) if it was sorted by album ! is there a way to change that ?
- i've got a freebox (french provider FREE) that provides TV by rtsp, the stream is mpeg2 TS, and there's no way to play it in quick time (even with mpeg2 component i buy) so it is not possible to play the streams in front row ! is there a tips for that ?
thanks in advance for your answer
regards

Hi
it doesn't answer my (old !!!) question :
what about streaming in quick time ?
what about song order in front row ?
VLC is the proposed software by my FAI ! but thanks anyway !

  • Front Row default Photo folder

I use iphoto on my Mac.
I have noticed that when I watch my photos in Front Row, many of the photos that I previously deleted are still shown in Front Row.
Does anyone know where / which folder Front Row gets the photos from?
    Thanks

  • Have Front Row Default To Another Source Instead Of Home iTunes

    Hey All,
Curious if anyone knows of a script or app that allows me to force Front Row to default to a specific source upon loading?
I have all my movies and tv shows setup on my main system in my bedroom and everytime I load front row, I have to scroll down and choose the source I want.
I know there are tons of little apps out there for such things like this (like TV Row chooses which monitor to send Front Row to instead of your main monitor), so I would hope someone knows of one. I have been searching on the net for the past week, but usually I just get links to media center apps that have the keyword Source in them.
    Thanks!
    Tim

I have the exact same problem.
I think that the problem is related to a read/write permissions / "file in use" type of problem that is specifc to network drives in some way.
I have two computers, and my iTunes library is stored on a usb-harddrive connected to a Airport Extreme wireless router.
When I have opened iTunes on computer1, and try to start iTunes on computer2 it says that the Itunes library is locked.
I guess the same thing is happening when FrontRow tries to connect to the iTunes library, while iTunes is open.

  • Front Row shows songs in Japanese!

    Hi,
it is a bit strange, in the "music" part of Front Row, the 2 first element are in Japanese... and if I go inside I have a selection of best songs in Japanese (well, that's my guess :P)... I have nothing against Japanese, but isn't there a way to correct that? I'd like to have the best songs in France for instane..
I have an iMac bought in Spain, but configured in French... can that be an explanation???
    Hep!!

Those are the "Top 10" songs from the Japanese iTunes store. For some reason, Front Row thinks you've selected the Japanese store in your iTunes. You can probably fix this by deleting your Front Row preferences. This may be trickier than expected though, as Front Row seems to "cache" or save this setting in memory. I would suggest you log out and log back in (to make sure no Front Row process is running in the background). Delete the Front Row .plist file in this path:
    <Macintosh HD>/Users/<YourUsersShortName>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.frontrow.plist
Then log out right away and log back in. Is it fixed now?

  • Front row & shared libraries on same computer

    Hey
My girlfriend and I dont have the same music taste, which is why we like to keep our music on different accounts. However recently I've bought a Mac Mini intended to work as a mediacenter. I've planned to use Front Row along with the remote control, but I still like to keep 2 different music lists for me and the girlfriend.
So far I've tried with 2 accounts on the Mac mini each of them with shared Itunes libraries. I can access the 2 different libraries on other computers fine, but not through Front Row on the Mini itself.
Any ideas on how to solve my issue?
    Thx in advance.
    /Rocky

Ohhh it's easy... just get a new girlfriend ? <G>
    So I see your problem.
Just to be clear, you seem to be aware that using Fast User Switching, as opposed to logging out is the only way to half way make this work. But you are right, it doesn't seem possible to share different iTunes user accounts on the same computer thru Front Row.
As a matter of fact, I was playing a shared song in iTunes from another user on my computer, and when I clicked the remote to engage Front Row, the song stopped....
I would like to point out that it IS possible to share two different user's iTunes on another computer..... so if you set up your first computer with you and your girlfriend's accounts, set iTunes to share on both, then keep both accounts active by using Fast User Switching, THEN on your Mac Mini, you can access both of those shared accounts... just not at the same time.. This is done under the SOURCES menu...
If I come up with any other ideas... I'll let you know.

  • Front Row/music playback issue

    Hi all,
I have a rather large music library in iTunes and I have my Mac Mini attached to my stereo and TV. I use Front Row for music playback. Recently, I have been having trouble as the music will "stall" randomly or "freeze" for a couple seconds, then resume playing. Very annoying.
I've noticed that this problem does not seem to happen if I select the music from iTunes without Front Row running or if I use FR to select the music, then back out of FR with the little remote.
Anyway, I prefer to keep FR running. I've seen LOTS of articles and posts regarding video freezing with FR, but not music. Anyone know what's wrong?
    Thanks!

I have the same problem on my macmini. :/
And I too like to leave Front Row playing songs while I do other thing in my house.
It hangs in almost every song now, it never did that before. I wonder if it's this iTunes update...
Is there someone else with the same problem, or someone that could help us solve that?

  • Front Row/Air Port Express/iTunes music skips

I have my main music library on my Mac Pro. I'm using the Front Row interface on my MacBook to pull songs from the Mac Pro via AirPort Express. I'm also shuffling a large playlist. The MacBook then sends the song back to AirPort Express and to a set of wired speakers. When playing through Front Row, the song will skip and delay. Sometimes I have to back out of Front Row to get Front Row to proceed to the next song or change volume. Any thoughts?

I have the same problems with my iTunes playing over AirTunes from my PowerBook. Certainly it occurs if iTunes skips over a track that is not currently available to the library (e.g. if it is on a disconnected hard drive). iTunes itself doesn't care about the missing file (it skips over) but the playback through AirTunes stops; even though the track appears to continue playing on the iTunes application.
I have not found a cure (other than ensuring every one of the tracks is available at the point where it is playing - and everything else is working flawlessly!).

  • Front Row dis-integration

Front Row in Tiger was integrated and linked to iTunes - if iTunes was not open, it would take a while to browse your music / videos while iTunes opened.
Front Row in Leopard is not integrated or linked to iTunes in this manner.
Whilst this does seem to have performance and speed improvements when browsing the library, now, with it not being integrated into iTunes any more also displays a very irritating behaviour: If you are listening to music on iTunes you used to be able to open Front Row and browse the music collection and change the song / album etc. without the music stopping. Likewise you could open Front Row, chose some music and then exit Front Row without the music stopping.
In my working context this was very useful - I could use my Apple Remote to navigate my music from across the room then return to my dashboard screen with my clock on.
Now, I can't do that - as soon as I open Front Row, my song stops and if I start a song in Front Row, then navigate out of Front Row again, the music stops.
I'm a bit disappointed about this, is there any way I can get the link between Front Row and iTunes back?

I'm a bit disappointed about this, is there any way I can get the link between Front Row and iTunes back?
Not without hacking the Tiger version of Front Row into your Leopard computer. Even then, quite a few parts of Front Row will no longer work. If all you want to do is play your music, you'd probably be fine. But, if you want to watch videos or DVDs you'll be out of luck.
Personally, I don't really understand this problem. Why not just open iTunes if all you want to do is play music from iTunes? If you asked me, it was much more of a hassle going through all the steps to open Front Row, choose "Music" and browse through all of the Music options to just play a song. When I want to play music, I just open iTunes and play music and it continues to play music even if I move to another application. I realize that other people have other "workflows" for getting things done, and I apologize for not being sympathetic to your issue, but if all you want to do is play music with iTunes you should just open iTunes.

  • Bypassing Front Row's "iTunes cannot play this song" limitation ?

    Hi,
This is not an unwanted issue or a bug. Front Row is unable to find songs that are not located within the iTunes default folder.
    See here :
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303384
I have a pretty large library (now more than 160 gb) and I had to span it over 2 hd. Playing every song in iTunes first in order for FR to find them afterwards is not an issue. Is there a way to make FR smarter ? somekind of a script or any magic to give me back FR joy ? I obviously had to set my default folder on the new, emptier HD in order to add songs, and then 160gb of music sitting on the old, full HD just became unavailable in FR. This is crazy.
    Any idea ?

Well I Reset the location and then changed back into my external hard drive and now the songs seem to be playing fine. Some of the genre changes and some of the album covers seem to have get lost but I guess I can live with that.

  • Front row doesn't play default music when displaying an event slideshow

I bought an iMac recently, the first time I used front row to display event slideshows it plays a default classical music. The same event displayed in iphoto '08 plays several default songs, but for some reason front row at this moment doesn't plays any music. I suspect that I clicked the save settings button in iphoto when I tried to play a slideshow.
Anyway, I would like to restore all the default settings and play the default music in front row and iphoto for all my photo events.

Yes, there are only three or four settings stored in there. The last module selected when you closed Front Row (Music, TV Shows, Podcasts, DVD, Photos, or Movies), the country your iTunes is set for (so Front Row can show the "top rated" items from the store) and whether or not you've turned on sound effects and/or the Front Row screen saver. No other preferences are stored there. All of the media-specific preferences are store in the application that controls that media (the DVD Player.app for the DVD settings, iTunes for the Music settings and iPhoto for the Photos settings).

  • ITunes Playlist/Songs/Genres/Artists/Etc Won't Work in Front Row, HELP!!!

I have previously owned a Powermac G4 and just recently bought an iMac Intel Duo Core, had all my files transferred from my old Mac, however all my MP3 and MP4 videos wont play when I access the iTunes By Front Row, The computer says please add songs to your playlist by buying/transferring your cd to iTunes...
which all my songs (4,000 songs approximately) come from CDs and some purchase through the Apple Store when I had my Old Mac... I tried to purchase a couple of music in the Apple Store, however it is still not reading it in Front Row, what do I doto get this to work, so I can just use te Apple Remote to control the songs I want to play, but instead I always have to use the mouse still which makes the whole remote thing useless...
PLEASE HELP!!! also how do I access the preferences to Front Row?? I dont see it in my System Preference... THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Powermac G4 Dual 1.42 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Superdrive & Combo Drive

The songs show up okay in iTunes itself?
Try opening iTunes/Preferences/Advanced/General and pressing the reset for the location of the iTunes folder.
If that doesn't work, try setting the path again.
If that doesn't work try trashing the com.apple.frontrow.plist in User/Library/Preferences.

  • Front Row shows Aperture projects in different order than Aperture does

I have a bunch of projects, carefully organized in such a way that I can find them easily. Front Row just seems to display them ordered randomly.
Anyone aware of a fix for this?

    Johnathan Burger wrote:
    2) Did you add track #'s?
Yeah. I made 5 short videos, and set then as "1 of 5" "2 of 5" etc.
I can't understand why it's out of order in Front Row.
As for question 1, the weird thing is when the genre was set to "documentary and drama" it was in TV Shows on Front Row, but when I changed it to just "drama" now it's in the movie section... weird, but that's fixed now.

  • Can't play certain songs in Front Row: iTunes

I've just upgraded to iTunes 7.01, on Mac OS X 10.4.8, with Front Row 1.3.
When I try to play some songs through Front Row, I get a message saying "The Selected Song is not autorised to play on this computer" However the tracks play fine in the standard iTunes view, library and playlists.
It is not music I purcahsed from the iTunes store, it is music ripped from CD on an older machine and copied over to my new Macbook.
Anyone know if this is bug? and or how to solve it?
    Thanks

I am having a worse problem. Since upgrading to ITunes 7, I can't play some of the album I ripped from my CDs. I always use unprotected mp3. I have had to re-rip some of them, but I really don't have the time and patience to go through 500 plus albums. Any solutions out there?

  • Front Row doesn't find any song!

Time ago i was able to use front row with my remote with no problem, now, without doing anything, it appears a message when i try to use it...
"Front Row doesn't find any song
Use iTunes to import songs or to buy songs from the iTunes Store"
I can use the Front Row, i can choose music, playlists, songs, and stuff, but wherever i click, there's the same message
I didn't do anything... just stopped working, i don't know why...
    need help please

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem. I recently switched to Leopard & the first time I tried Front Row after the change it can't find any songs, podcasts, etc. Itunes works fine in all respects. I'm working on a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo with 10.5.4.
....I'm hoping the answer is not to update Quicktime, because it seems that every update cancels the previously paid Quicktime "pro" features.
    thanks for any advice!

  • Front Row crashes during purchased song

    Hello,
I installed leopard on Friday, and until this point have had very minor problems. Today, I went into Front Row to play a song that I purchased from iTunes, and about half-way though, the screen went black, but the audio continued (I turned the screensaver off). I was able to back completely out of Front Row, and got back in, but when I resumed the song, it got a little farther and then completely froze (no audio or picture) where I had to re-boot. One of these two happens every time I play this song.
I did an erase & install, and this was the only song that this happened on... also, this was the only song that I have bought since I moved over to leopard. Any help on how to fix this or what may be going on is appreciated!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Just to be clear, you can browse your entire iTunes library with Front Row, but only one song will play? Or does only one song appear in Front Row? Have you used iTunes before running Front Row? Have you authorized your new computer to play purchased songs?
