Front Row Displays all my vids as "Movies"

I want my Music Videos to be filed under "Music Videos" and my TV Shows under "TV Shows" and my Movies under "Movies" and my Podcasts under "Podcasts"... why do all my vids (no matter what they are) show up under movies? The only things that catagorize properly are things that were purchased in iTunes. That ***. :-P

  • Front Row has ALL video files in "Movies" list. WHY?

This is ridiculous! I have never had this problem before, but now it is out of hand. In Front Row under the "Movies" list, along with the movies that I have purchased from the iTunes store, every single video help file from various applications on my iMac are now in that list. What the heck is going on? Why is that happening? How can I make the list go back to just including movies that I have purchased from the iTunes store? PLEASE HELP! PLEASE!

Front Row looks in three places for movie files: iTunes in your user's account, iTunes libraries that are shared on the network and inside your user's "Movies" folder. If the movies are in your user's "Movies" folder, they'll appear in Front Row. This is the way that Front Row has worked from the beginning, it's not new. Are all the video help files inside your "Movies" folder? If so, I don't think there's a way to make them go away. Your applications may need them to be there, but I've never heard of any video help files like that before.

  • Watching dvds in front row = displays sleeps

hi all - i gots the following problem
watching dvds in front row = displays sleeps - or at least dulls back until i use the trackpad to wake it
i assumed that this would not be issue with front row as it would be obvious that i wanted the dvd shown full screen - any ideas?

Wow, I never found this before. I played the dvd in front row on best performance (battery setting) and the display went black. I closed front row and opened it in dvd player and it played for 15 min and never went black.
Any way I went into energy saver and adjusted custom to never turn off display then opened front row. That seems to have worked.

  • Front row doesn't see remote source movie folder

    Hi,
I did a forum search and didn't see this addressed anywhere else.
When I open a remote source in Leopard Front Row, and navigate to the movie folder, it displays what is in the local movie folder rather than what is in the remote computer's movie folder. It will see movies in the remote iTunes library. All machines I have tested are at 10.5.1. I enabled iTunes sharing on each of the machines I used as a remote source.
Is there a setting I am missing somewhere or is this just the way Front Row works in Leopard?
    Thanks!

Funny, I was just investigating this myself. This occurred in my setup as well, which includes:
    - iMac running Leopard 10.5.1, iTunes 7.5 (19) with password-free sharing enabled, running as a media server, hosting these types of files (all legally purchased and owned, in case anyone from the MPAA is reading this):
    - DVD movies ripped to VIDEO_TS folders using MacTheRipper
    - MP4 movies ripped with Handbrake
    - MPG and MOV format home movies
    - Macbook Pro running Front Row 2.0 (229) on Leopard 10.5.1 as a client
    - Local Wifi D-Link 624 (802.11g) network with external firewalls, but no restrictions on local traffic
    - OS X firewalls disabled on both iMac and Macbook Pro
As a workaround, I did the following:
    1. Using Finder on the Macbook Pro client, connected to the iMac Movies folder. This mounts the remote folder locally on the client.
    2. Grabbed the iMac Movies icon and dragged it to the Macbook Pro client's Movies folder. This creates an alias to the remote folder. If you want, you can rename this alias to something like "Remote Movies".
    3. Opened Front Row > Movies in the Macbook Pro. I now can see my locally stored movies as well as the remotely-stored movies under the newly-created folder alias. All my remote movies now play locally in Front Row.
Anyone else have a more-elegant solution?
    Regards,
    Steven

  • Automatically switch Front Row display to  a second monitor

I know that it is possible to change the "primary monitor" in the System Proferences, start Front Row, and then manually change to primary monitor back later on, but is there a way to do this automatically?
    Thanks

    Hi Susan....
I occasionally use my MBP with my lcd TV and didn't want to mess around with stuff all the time, so I just mirror my MBP display onto the LCD TV. The MBP normally changes it's display to match the TV, and changes back when I disconnect. I also turn the brightness down to zero on the mbp to save the display!
    Problem solved!

  • Front Row displays a video name thats been deleted...

I've deleted a movie on my mac, I go into Front Row>Videos>Movies and the file name is still there, anyone had the same problem or does anyone know how to get rid of this?
    Thanks,
    Andy

Oh man... well I backed up my iTunes Library.xml file and the iTunes Music Library.xml file and deleted them, sure enough, the "phantom videos" went away but all my playlist where gone. When I went to restore the xml files I did something wrong and didn't get them back so I went to an older backup (thank God for external USB drives) and pulled that those xml files and after a few minutes of cleaning up the changes I had made since that back up there are now many more "phantom videos' in my FR Movies Section.
Is there a way to back up playlists and and restore them without the "Phantom videos" coming back as well?

  • Front Row displays partly in foreign language when it should be English

When I go into "Music" in Front Row, where it says "iTunes Top" at the top, it says "iTunes Top - Titel" and "iTunes Top - Musikvideo". It's not displaying in English, and I don't know when this started happening. The iTunes store is set to United States in my iTunes app, and everything else on my computer displays in U.S. English, so any ideas on how to fix this?

Please see my answer in the no "itunes top movie" in my front row topic.

  • Can Front Row display other applications?

As a teacher, I use PowerPoint a lot, and would love to display my PowerPoint presentations with Front Row. Can Front Row be customized (or something) to display created PowerPoint presentations? Is it possible to add applications to the circle of applications on Front Page's initial screen? Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
No, it's not possible to add applications to Front Row. It should be possible, however, to export a QuickTime movie of your PowerPoint presentation. You could then play this with the "Videos" module.

  • Front Row displays desktop when streaming a TV show from a shared library

I recently bought South Park series 9 from the iTunes store on my iMac. I have a Macbook that is currently being used as a media server, being hooked up to a Samsung LCD TV.
The other day I was happily watching one of the episodes via Front Row on my Macbook through the TV, when it suddenly displayed the error message "Cannot play this video" (Or similar). When I went to go back into the episode, it displayed the "There are no shared movies" error message.
After a while, I eventually re-connected to the iMac library, but now when I select a video, it displays the "Loading video..." screen in Front Row, then plays the Audio, but displays the desktop, as if Front Row is not there.
When the video plays in iTunes it plays fine, and this only happens with the shared videos in the iMac's iTunes library.
    Anyone have any ideas?

CubaMAN is correct. This issue is due to the most recent version of iTunes. It's also, specifically, due to the version of iTunes on the computer that's running Front Row, not the computer that's sharing the videos. I would suggest you send Apple some iTunes feedback. There's an option for a "feedback type" of "Bug Report":
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
If you can, temporarily, move the videos to the MacBook, they'll play just fine directly.

  • Coverflow and Front Row display the WRONG artwork

I have tried all the answers I can find and also some more in depth ones as well....
I have made sure there is only ONE artwork in the 'get info' of the track (the correct one)
I have deleted the Album art folder (download and local) in the iTunes music folder
I have deleted cache and preferences where I could find them for both iTunes and Front Row
    I have restarted!
YET the same **** WRONG artwork still shows in the COVERFLOW and when using FRONT ROW to access your music with the remote!
Can't find anything about this from Apple.... Surely this is an easy fix for Apple......?
The last changed artwork (by modify date) is the one that coverflow and Front row should use...???
iTunes displays the correct artwork, 'get info' shows there is only ONE artwork (the correct one)
I have deleted everything I can think off and yet Coverflow and Front Row still display the old, incorrect artwork! and get this... if I delete the artwork completely, so it is the default "no artwork" icon that itunes displays Frontrow and coverflow STILL display the old incorrect one!
Reading these forums I am amazed that something as basic and integral to the iTunes/iLife experience has been so blatently ignored and left to the users/forums to muddle through!
Come on Apple! get your act together! this is crazy...
I am NOT the only one with this problem!
    ANYWAY.... any advice?

    Me Also.
Right now I only notice it on one album.
Both the song playing and the artwork in the info box are correct, it's only coverflow that is wrong.

  • Front Row Displays Rentals in French?

After a quick search through the forums I cant find anything on this, which is simply when using Front Row, accessing TV Shows the first option in the list is Itunes Classement Episo.... On accessing this I get trailer in french, same happens in Music, when the preview options are in french.
I've checked my international preferences which are all set to UK, I can't see where Front Row is picking up french from, I'm hoping someone out here has the answer

    baloo,
My settings are all US, and I'm having the same phenomenon. Since Front Row doesn't have a preference dialogue, I don't think I can correct it from my end.
So far, the rest of the readouts are not affected -- just the previews.
    Regards,
    Bruce

  • Front Row display issue

I used to be able to set up my display options to "Best for Video" and "NTSC", close the lid, plug in my tv and watch movies. Now when I close the lid it defaults back to "PAL" and the "Best for Video" box is deselected.
It ***** not being able to close the lid. It's distracting and I have to turn the "Brightness" all the way down.
I've tried other adapters and tv's but it's all the same.
    Any ideas.
Oh, I ran into a guy in my building having the same problem.
    Thanks.

  • Front Row is taking a LOOOONG time to open movie lists.

    Hello
I have a Mac Mini Core Duo 1.66 with 512MB RAM.
I have an external hard drive for my video files, and the Mini is connected to my 1920x1080 Sharp LCD TV as a monitor. My movie files are located on the external drive, and I have an alias in my "Movies" folder, per advice from another forum posting.
When I launch Front Row, it takes almost 10 minutes to open my movie list - sometimes front row just freezes. I have perhaps 50 items in folders and sub-folders on my movie list, and they are all located on the external drive. When they were on the local drive, it also took a VERY long time just to open the movie list in Front Row (that's just opening the movie list, not even playing the movies!)
What's going on here? It's unusable as it is - how can I speed things up?
    Thanks,
    -----------S

I have a mini with an external drive containing a library of movie files and front row is also very slow with that - though in my case around a minute to pull up the list rather than 10.
Part of the problem may be the type of external. In my case, I have an enclosure which supports both Firewire and USB 2.0, and when connected by FW, immediately I select the movies option in front row, the drive is woken and the activity light starts blinking. After it has read the contents of the folder, front row then displays the list with a brief pause as the preview for the first movie in the list appears.
When connected by USB, the drive doesn't start responding for several seconds, and when it does the access light blinks at a much slower rate. That would be expected since USB doesn't have a dedicated controller, so data flow is dependent on how busy the system is with other things. FW on the other hand has a constant data rate due it it's dedicated controller, which means that while it is in theory slower than USB2.0, in practice it is generally faster to use.
Thus, if not already connected by FW, if your drive has that option, connect it that way. Also open the energy saver preference pane and make sure there is no checkmark against 'put hard drive to sleep when possible'.

  • Some TV Shows appearing under Movies within Front Row

I've started experiencing this particular behaviour since installing the recent updates (10.6.1 & iTunes 9). Within iTunes, I've checked the 'media kind' and it is set correctly.
All the content was purchased from iTunes. I'd be grateful for any advice.
    Thanks,
    Andy.

The problem happened again to me - I was fiddling with my music videos (some 664) and did a mass tidy up - selected all and then checked the box to make sure they weren't skipped or resumed half way through. Also ticked the box that they were music video.
Back in Front Row suddenly all my movies were swamped with hundreds of music videos. And they were clearly marked as "music video" when displayed in Front Row Movies.
I did the following: selected all the music videos, changed the type to TV shows, exited iTunes. Checked in FR - all gone from Movies. Back into iTunes and then changed them all back to Music Video. Exited iTunes. Checked FR - still gone!
So maybe try changing them to something else (music video or movie in your case?) and then back again - make sure you exit iTunes after though (maybe it commits changes to the iTunes database or something ... ?).

  • How to tell Front Row to look for movies on a USB drive?

I'm working on getting all my dvd's on two 500gb usb drives - using Handbrake to encode everything. This is much faster with a new 2.4ghz 24" iMac by the way (6-8hrs on my 1.8ghz athlon vs 1-2 with the iMac...woohoo).
What I'm trying to do is get the movies (on the usb drives) to show up in Front Row. One way I know of is by making an alias for each movie and moving the alias to my "Movies" folder on the main HD. This is a little tedious. When I simply drag and drop it in the "Movies" folder it just copies it and that is not what I want. Is there a way to just tell Front Row where to look for the movies? If I use iTunes the same thing happens, it just transfers all movies to the main HD...nevermind. I unchecked the box that said to copy everything.
The plan was on using iTunes for movies I encode specifically for iPods exclusively, searching through 600+ movies to get a few for the iPod doesn't seem user friendly.
So the question remains. Is there another way to get Front Row to just see the movies on another drive without iTunes or using an alias for each one or are those 2 my only choices?

I'm glad you got it figured out. Front Row actually looks for movie files in two places. First, as you've discovered, it looks inside your user's "Movies" folder. An alias there pointing to a different location will lead Front Row to the other location. Also, Front Row looks inside iTunes for movies. This way, it can find TV shows, music videos and movies purchased from the iTunes Music Store. Another option, besides making an alias in your "Movies" folder, would be to add the movies to iTunes.
