Front Row doesn't know about multi-disc albums?

So, here is an odd one. Suppose you have an album that has three discs in them. In iTunes, I have input the appropriate disc numbers and track numbers for each track. When I go to play the album in Front Row, front row ignores the disc numbers, arranges all tracks by track numbers, and then sorts by title within track number. For example:
Disc 1
1: Song 1
2: Song 2
Disc 2
1: Song 5
2: Song 6
Disc 3
1: Song 10
2: Song 11
When playing such a three disc album, front row will play them in the following order:
D1T1 Song1
D3T1 Song 10
D2T1 Song 5
D3T2 Song 11
D1T2 Song 2
D2T2 Song 6
This seems like an incredibly silly way to do things. Espcially when for some albums playing consecutive tracks contiguously is a must (in a lot of classical music, for example).

I'm not sure what the difference between the ID3 tag and the visible song info is. (Sorry for my ignorance.)
Basically, all the info (disk number, track number, song title) were input into the appropriate fields in iTunes' song info. All files are Apple Lossless files. The only thing that is visible in Frontrow are the titles (like "Song 1").

  • Front Row doesn't, iTunes does play an album

Many times I've experienced the following: I bought an album in the iTunes store and backed it up at the Mini I use as a jukebox.
When I want to listen to it through Front Row the message appears that this computer is not certified to play the music, but when I go to iTunes I can listen to it with no problems.
I've certified the Mini several times now during the last 18 months, to play the music I buy on my iMac, but this keeps happening.
    Anybody any idea?
    Thanks!!!

Not sure if this has been resolved yet but I'll give a guess as to the solution.
It sounds like the mini is certified but perhaps the iMac is not. If you've setup your iMac's iTunes to use the Mini to store and play all your music, then the iMac does not have the certification required to allow its Front Row to play music. iTunes, however, will play "remote" songs; Front Row won't. That's my dilemma.
Here's a test. Check your iTunes preference on the iMac to see if the Music Folder location is indeed the Mini (under Advanced>General tab). Either way, click on the Reset button. This will change your Music Folder to the default folder within your iMac's Music folder (under Home). Then drag one of the purchased songs from your Mini's iTunes Music folder onto iTunes. This will make it import into your iMac's new music folder. Now attempt to play that imported song in iTunes. If you're lucky, iTunes will say that your iMac is not certified and needs to be activated. Do so and then switch your Music Folder back to the original Mini setting you had. This should put everything back to the way your have except now your iMac will be authorized to play purchased songs directly, or through your Mini. If you're really lucky, Front Row will now show all your songs to play.
I have no idea if this will succeed but it is what I would attempt to do. Good luck!

  • Front Row doesn't find any song!

Time ago i was able to use front row with my remote with no problem, now, without doing anything, it appears a message when i try to use it...
"Front Row doesn't find any song
Use iTunes to import songs or to buy songs from the iTunes Store"
I can use the Front Row, i can choose music, playlists, songs, and stuff, but wherever i click, there's the same message
I didn't do anything... just stopped working, i don't know why...
    need help please

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem. I recently switched to Leopard & the first time I tried Front Row after the change it can't find any songs, podcasts, etc. Itunes works fine in all respects. I'm working on a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo with 10.5.4.
....I'm hoping the answer is not to update Quicktime, because it seems that every update cancels the previously paid Quicktime "pro" features.
    thanks for any advice!

  • Front Row doesn't show video podcasts

Here's the problem for some reason Front Row does not see the Video Podcasts that are on my MBP anymore. Although it did before. Now when I go into Video Podcasts I get an error telling that I don't have any video podcasts in my iTunes library even though I do. It can be seen in iTunes, and I can listen to it in Front Row if I go into music section, but for some reason it is not recognized anymore in as a Video Podcast in Front Row.
Anyone knows how to fix this, or having problems with this?

I have the same problem. I think it may have something to do with the size of the video podcast. Have you tried downloading any podcasts for Apple TV and seeing if they work?

  • Front Row Doesn't See my Shared Libraries

Pretty simple problem, front row doesn't display any of the many shared libraries on my network. I have both Mac and PC's that are sharing and can see me but I can't see them in Front Row.
Furthermore, they are visible in iTunes...
    Mitch

    Mitch,
I had been experiencing the same problem. MacMini Front Row 2.1.3 (and earlier) not "seeing" shared iTunes libraries from iMac, G4, or other PC's on my home network, yet iTunes on the same machine was always able to see and connect to the shared libraries. All machines are at the latest versions of iTunes and Quicktime and there were no unusual file formats involved (Mp3 and Mp4). Since this had been going on for eons and no updates from Apple seemed to resolve the issue, and searching these forums offered no solutions I decided to spend some time today working on the problem.
I created a new account on the MacMini and when I fired up Front Row it was able to see the other Sources (I would suggest you try that as a first step). Since this validated that the problem was not with Front Row but rather with some other settings on my regular user account I began removing plists from my ~/<UserName>/Library/Preferences folder and rebooting after removing each plist before and testing Front Row Sources again. When I removed the com.apple.iTunes.plist and rebooted I was able to see the other sources through Front Row.
This has fixed the problem for me. I did need to reset my iTunes environment (preferences, music location and iTunes Store information) when I relaunched iTunes but other than that there were no changes.
I would not imagine that it is a recommend practice to delete plists in this way but I was getting very frustrated with their being no solutions to the problem. I hope this solution works for you.

  • Front Row doesn't support Compilations / Multiple Artists

Frustrating but true - Front Row doesn't support multiple artists, so whilst you can view Various Artist albums in iTunes and on your iPod - you can't do it in Front Row. Pity - I just spent £600 buying an iMac SOLEY to use Front Row for a large music collection..... so please put me out of my misery. What am I doing wrong ?

    great!
I found the same question and the SOLUTION in this forum. Thank you!.
Pity that the Macbook Pro17 SPANISH manual just says "open the Front Row application" and not how to do (holding Comand-Esc).....
    Nice laptop though....
    Thanks again!

  • Front Row doesn't show alias/Ext HD folder...

Frustration... It was working perfectly under 10.4 but doesn't work at all now.
Created an alias of my ext HD movies folder and placed it in the "Movies" folder of iTunes library, but Front Row doesn't see it at all.
When i drop that alias in itunes itself it copies all the contents/movies, wich takes too much room and is not what i want...
    Help?

I think you've misunderstood the suggestions for this, the alias needs to live in your user's "Movies" folder, not in the iTunes "Movies" folder. It should be in this path:
    <Macintosh HD>/Users/<YourUsersShortName>/Movies/
You should be able to move the alias you've already made into the right folder and then Front Row should find your hard drive.

  • Identifying multi-disc albums on iPod nano?

Multi-disc albums on iPod nano (5th gen) appear grouped, but they're all mixed together and there's no way of identifying if a song belongs to disc 1, 2 or 3... nor to know when Disc 1 ends and Disc 2 begins. iTunes 11.0.3 does it great. Is there a way to fix this issue on the iPod? I wouldn't like to have to rename all my album titles and add disc info to the title. It creates duplicates and it's ugly.
    Thank you for you support.

That is the default behavior of iTunes and iPod. If you want to have the albums listed separately on your iPod, you will need to change the Album tags for disc 1 and disc 2, something like "Hundred Year Hall (Disc One)" and "Hundred Year Hall (Disc Two)," for example.

  • Front Row doesn't play music!!!

I don't know what's going on with my Front Row, but my music and podcasts will not play on Front Row! It's weird: my movies play, my photos from iPhoto can do slideshows. It just doesn't play music. It always says: "Front Row cannot find any songs. Use iTunes to import songs or purchase songs from the iTunes Store." I just updated my iTunes, Quicktime, and all the other computer updates. Still no luck....

Yes, there are only three or four settings stored in there. The last module selected when you closed Front Row (Music, TV Shows, Podcasts, DVD, Photos, or Movies), the country your iTunes is set for (so Front Row can show the "top rated" items from the store) and whether or not you've turned on sound effects and/or the Front Row screen saver. No other preferences are stored there. All of the media-specific preferences are store in the application that controls that media (the DVD Player.app for the DVD settings, iTunes for the Music settings and iPhoto for the Photos settings).

  • Front Row doesn't work with my Intel iMac

I've had my ICD iMac for about 2 months. It used to work, but now when I push the 'Menu' button nothing happens.
    I've rebuilt permissions and restarted.
If I'm running iTunes I CAN move forward and back tracks.
    Any ideas?

Have you updated Front Row to 1.2.1?

Another option might be to install the 10.4.6 combo update.

  • Front Row doesn't see content on iPod

Is there a way to configure Front Row to play back content that is on a connected iPod? I have videos and music on my iPod, and I would love to be able to play this content with front row.

I don't know if I am allowed to say this on here...
There is software available which allows you to copy all of the content from your iPod back onto your computer. The name of the software is eluding me now, but I'm sure I originally found this out on these forums. So do a search and maybe something will show up. It is possible though! (Not through the use of iTunes).
I would also like to be able to browse iPod content through Front Row. I have all my music on my Mac Pro, and none of my laptop. So if I ever want to use Front Row with my laptop its quite pointless really... would be cool to see this happening!!
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Front Row doesn't shows my photos - error message

I'm having problems with front row when I try to show images. When I choose this option, front row shows an error message similar to this: Front Row encountered a Problem, press play to continue. When I press play, it exits the program.
I reinstalled the MacOs and it kept the problem. I created a new user, and on this front row is working.
    Any help??
    Tks

    No help.
    I assume you're using Aperture ?
Even Aprture 3,1,1 doesn't fix this problem.

  • Front row doesn't work with both apple+esc and remote

My new macbook can't open front row, not with the remote, and with apple+esc, could it be a file that i have to delete and then restart the computer and that that file automatic comes back??

If, for whatever reason, Front Row isn't in that location, you'll have to re-install it. This shouldn't be a big deal except I'd be a little curious to know why it disappeared...
Insert your original Mac OS X install disk that came with your Mac. You do not need to startup from the disk. Double-click on the "Install Bundled Software Only" option on the disk. At the "Installation Type" window of this installer, click the "Customize" button. This will give you a list of software to check on or check off. Check on the option for Front Row but uncheck everything else (unless there's something else missing that you need!). Run the installer and this should put Front Row back in its proper location. Depending on which version gets installed, you may wan to run the Software Update to make sure Front Row is up-to-date.

  • Front Row doesn't play nicely with MP4's

Friends, I have several MP4 music videos which were downloaded from YouTube. They play fine in Quicktime, and Quicklook opens them fine. I dragged them into iTunes mostly just to see If they would play there. They work fine. The problem is that when I open MUSIC in Front Row, the videos are shown as an available playlist, but when I try to open that playlist, Front Row tells me that there is no music in the files. I wonder if I'm asking FR to do something it just doesn't want to do, or perhaps I need to rename the file, or store them in another manner in iTunes. It's not really a big deal, just one of those things that makes ya go Hmmmm....
For what it's worth, my QT version is 7.6, iTunes is version 8 and FR has been updated to 2.1.7.
    I'll appreciate your insight.
    Thanks
    Jon
