Front Row doesn't work on MacBook Pro 17

I just got my nice MacBook Pro 17, which includes Front Row manual and that cute remote control...
However, i could open Front Row.
Actualy, the application is not installed. I just found FrontRow.pkg inside the folder HD/Library/Receipts/FrontRow.pkg
I contact apple.com and downloaded versions there, but couldn't install anyone since the instalers claim that my computer is not equiped to run Front Row (????)
I couldn't get any support form apple.
Could anybody help me, pls?

great!
I found the same question and the SOLUTION in this forum. Thank you!.
Pity that the Macbook Pro17 SPANISH manual just says "open the Front Row application" and not how to do (holding Comand-Esc).....
Nice laptop though....
Thanks again!

Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro when plugged in with a dvi to mini dvi cable. Any ideas what to do to make it work? I lugged the 23" 2500 miles into the wilderness and I need help

Okay, here's an update: the DVI to ADC adapter does work with the Apple displays that I have tried, but it won't work with the Formac. I have tried multiple time to contact them, but to no avail... they don't even respond to threats of posting my opinion of them, which is this:
DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM FORMAC! They make quality products, but their customer service is a big time joke! They won't take care of you.

  • Entire 5tgb row dosen't work on macbook pro

My entire 5tgb row dosen't work on macbook pro 13". Anyone have a solution to make it work. It start 2 days ago.

I don't know of any software problem that would disable only that column of keys on any keyboard.
But I guess anything is possible.
Just who are those people that say it is software.
Upgrading the os won't fix a hardware problem.

  • Front row suddenly stopped working on MacBook

Front row wont start. I am not using it frequently, so I can't say when it stopped working. However, I can control Itues the remote works well with iPhoto too. So there doesn't seem to be any problem with the remote. But, if I press menue, front row wont start, the same if i try the apple button and escape.

Have a look around the forum before you post; you would have found the "No Front Row on MacBook Pro" thread, which contains the fix (install the 1.3.1 update).

  • Pressing D on boot to get into Diagnostic mode doesn't work. Macbook Pro with OSX 10.6.8

My charger has stopped working all of a sudden for my MacBook Pro. I tried my friends charger and it works. I've seen a few people mentioning that their charger started working again after running a Diagnostic test at boot up by pressing "D" after powering up the computer.
I see this instruction all over the web, but it doesn't work for me! I have the OSX DVD in the drive. Holding down "C" while booting makes it boot on the DVD, and holding the Option key will give me a boot menu. But it just boots normally while holding down "D".
    Am I missing something?

    Press D during startup
Start up in Apple Hardware Test (AHT).
Apple Hardware Test is included on the DVDs that are shipped with some Macintosh computers. If the copy on your hard drive becomes unavailable, use the DVDs to run Apple Hardware Test.
For Intel-based Apple computers that shipped with Mac OS X v10.5.4 or earlier, Apple Hardware Test is located on the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 and should be included with your computer.
For Apple computers that shipped with Mac OS X v10.5.5 to 10.6.7, Apple Hardware Test is located on the Applications Install Disc 2 and should be included with your computer.
For some Apple computers that shipped with OS X Lion, if Apple Hardware Test cannot be found on the hard drive, an Internet-based version starts up instead.

  • Can I use Front Row on external monitor with MacBook Pro's cover closed?

I've seen that you can use the remote to control Front Row even when the lapatop's cover is closed (on a MacBook Air). Is it possible with a first generation MB Pro? Are there special settings?
    Thx

You can use a MacBook Pro in "clamshell" mode if you have the AC adapter plugged in for power, an external display attached and an external keyboard and mouse (USB or Bluetooth) to wake the computer after it's been closed. This is the official word from Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131
However, even if you don't have a keyboard and mouse, you should still be able to wake the MacBook Pro using the Apple remote by pressing the "menu" button. (You do still need to have the power plugged in and the display plugged in.)

  • My external HDD doesn't works on Macbook Pro ML

    Hi,
my external HDD works on Windows and Macbook SL, doesn't with Macbook Pro ML.
I can't see it in Disk Utility.
Can someone help me or suggest what I have to do?
    Thanks

Based on what you have said, I do not have an answer for you.  The obvious difference is the OS, but I find it difficult to believe that would be the problem.
Do you have another HDD to attach to the MBP?  That seems to be my last arrow in my quiver.
    Ciao.

  • Airplay doesn't work after Macbook Pro repair

I have a late-2011 Macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.4. I was having trackpad and stability issues so I brought my computer to the Apple store for service. It was sent out for repair and returned with several new parts, including motherboard, trackpad and battery. Since then, Airplay will not work - it worked before the repair, as well as working perfectly on my iPhone currently. There is no Airplay icon on the computer, and when I go to the Display settings it says no devices are detected. I'm up to date with all software. When I restarted the computer, the Airplay icon appeared - I clicked on it, selected AppleTV, then got an error message saying it could not connect. Then the icon disappeared. I've tried restarting my AppleTV, as well as updating the software - still works fine on the iPhone, but not the Macbook Pro. I'm using the same wireless for everything. Thanks for any suggestions!

    first of all
thank you for helping me fixing this problem. I got the report of my network and it shows in the image the result.
also the TV is near my ATV along with the router'EA2700' and modem from grande communication but nothing in top of others or closed space. also it is not encrypted

  • Frustrated: Just bought PSE 10 and doesn't work on Macbook Pro?

    I hope someone can help.
I have a Macbook Pro running Version 10.7.4 and I have just bought Photoshop Elements 10.
Having installed PSE 10 from DVD as instructed, when I try to open it I get a message that says: Photoshop Elements 10 cannot be opened because of a problem.
I have no idea where to turn next?!
    Thanks

Well, PSE 6 and up all work fine in 10.7.4, so let's try to find out what went wrong. Are you running from an admin account? If you have antivirus software did you disable it while installing? How are you trying to open PSE?

  • Front Row doesn't work with my Intel iMac

I've had my ICD iMac for about 2 months. It used to work, but now when I push the 'Menu' button nothing happens.
    I've rebuilt permissions and restarted.
If I'm running iTunes I CAN move forward and back tracks.
    Any ideas?

Have you updated Front Row to 1.2.1?

Another option might be to install the 10.4.6 combo update.

  • Front Row doesn't work on my Mac mini CoreDuo

I can't start up FR: neither with the remote control neither with the keyboard (apple+esc).
In console.log file can see this error every time I try to start up FR using the keyboard shortcut:
    Apr 17 10:07:04 Mac-mini loginwindow[70]: InitServerRemotePort: bootstraplookup(): 0x44e: Bootstrap unknown service
    Any idea?
Mac mini Intel CoreDuo 1,66GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   2GB RAM

I am having the same problem.
    May 15 12:20:17 noraa-haras loginwindow[63]: InitServerRemotePort: bootstraplookup(): 0x44e: Bootstrap unknown service
This appears when clicking "menu" on the remote AND when using command-esc. I can use the remote for controlling volume, iTunes, etc, but cannot invoke FrontRow.
This is a MacBook Pro with 10.4.6. This used to work, but I can't say when it stopped, presumably after the 10.4.6 upgrade, but I can't say if it was related.
My latest OS install was from a clean install and used migration manager to move my user and application data. I have never tried to hack FrontRow, but am using Parallels. I only mention this because it has deep ties into the OS. I also use VLC. No other beta-grade software.

    Welcome to Discussions, diefokkenkinders
Your Mac should work properly from the first time you turn it on.
If your MBP did not work the first time you tried it, I agree with sig that you should return it for service including a thorough check to be certain there are no other problems with your particular machine.
If you want to try some things before returning your Mac, or if your iSight once worked but has is now giving trouble, you can try the suggestions in Apple's Troubleshooting article:

  • Front Row doesn't work properly in OSX 10.5

I'm having a problem with Front Row not working properly in OSX 10.5
iPhoto transitions aren't working properly in the slide shows, My monitor keeps turning off,
    I have a KDS 17" LCD monitor.
Also iMovie will show movies with big blank gaps in the video,
Yet iPhoto and iMovie will run fine using OSX 10.4.10
The other iApps of iLife 08 appear to be alright so far.
    Is there a fix coming?
    Dave

    Figured it out...
The "Front Row" settings were set for a screensaver, That's why the monitor kept blanking out,
I've turned off the screensaver in the settings and "Front Row" works fine now.
There is no screensaver image chosen, That's why the screen kept going blank or even off.
    Hope this helps others.

  • Front row doesn't work with both apple+esc and remote

My new macbook can't open front row, not with the remote, and with apple+esc, could it be a file that i have to delete and then restart the computer and that that file automatic comes back??

If, for whatever reason, Front Row isn't in that location, you'll have to re-install it. This shouldn't be a big deal except I'd be a little curious to know why it disappeared...
Insert your original Mac OS X install disk that came with your Mac. You do not need to startup from the disk. Double-click on the "Install Bundled Software Only" option on the disk. At the "Installation Type" window of this installer, click the "Customize" button. This will give you a list of software to check on or check off. Check on the option for Front Row but uncheck everything else (unless there's something else missing that you need!). Run the installer and this should put Front Row back in its proper location. Depending on which version gets installed, you may wan to run the Software Update to make sure Front Row is up-to-date.
