Front Row says no connection to the internet

Here's something strange: I wanted to look some trailers in Front Row this afternoon. But upon trying the app informed me that there's no connection to the internet despite the fact that I have a very good connection to the net. What can I do to resolve this issue.

After suffering from this problem and searching for solutions, I eventually fixed it myself.
The problem is frontrow wanting to communicate through en0, which after a few configuration changes en0 gets zapped. You are then left with an interface instance number which is my case was en15.
To get this back to en0
You need to open terminal
Become root or perform sudo commmands
cd /Library/Perferences/SystemConfiguration
Check you are in the right place by typing
pwd
The files that set the instance numbers can be renamed.
mv preferences.plist preferences.orig
mv NetworkInterfaces.plist NetworkInterfaces.plist.orig
mv com.apple.network.identification.plist com.apple.network.identification.plist.orig (this should be typed on one line)
If you are not fussy about keeping them you can just delete them. These files are recreated at boot up time.
reboot.
Configure your enternet connection or wireless connection.
Frontrow now connects to the internet.
If for some reason it fails, you can always copy your old files back if you just renamed them.
Enjoy your movie trailers etc.

  • Front row says im not on the internet

When using my Mac pros airport extreme to get on the internet, front row says im not on the internet when trying to stream movie trailers.
But when connected via ethernet, it works fine.
My mac pro is in an area where ethernet is not a viable solution..
This a common bug? I tried googling it but came back with nothing.

Okay so my iphone says its connected to the internet but the internet only works for games so i cant use things like facebook twitter or youtube PLZ TELL ME HOW TO FIX THISf by the way it an iphone 4s and i have never encountered this problem before my dads iphone is the same after we updated to ios 8.1.1 but my mum hasnt updated yet and hers is fine

If deleting then reinstalling the apps doesn't work, then contact the app developer for support.
It sounds, though, like your internet connection is simply very slow.
Try making a backup, then restoring the iPhone as new, and testing again.

Everytime I try updating my software from 4.0.1 to the latest, It keeps on saying cannot connect to the internet, when my internet is working absolutely fine. What do I do?

Try temporarily disabling your firewall and ALL of your antispyware/antivirus software then try again.

  • Hi, my Macbook says its connected to the internet, but it's not working.  It's about 2 years old and has been fine up until now.  Its the same internet provider and I have a work PC laptop that is connecting fine.  Any help greatly appreciated.  Liz

    Hi,
My MacBook Pro won't connect to the internet, although it says it is connected.  The laptop is about 2 years old and up until now has worked fine.  My work PC laptop is connecting to the internet fine so I know it can't be the connection.   I've checked for Adware/Malware (just in case) via safemac and that all seems fine.
    I'm running OSX 10.8.5.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Liz

Believe it or not, that article helped me find a temporary solution. After reading it I realized that the problem did have to do with my DNS settings. I had taken the DNS settings that my ISP gives me when I dial up and plugged them into the configuration for my AirPort card. This apparently caused a problem because, although my wireless network is always on, it's not always connected to the internet. So those DNS settings were invalid most of the time.
I found that as long as I leave the area for DNS servers blank, the computer logs in normally. This further confirms my suspicion that something was trying to access the internet at login. I guess as long as I don't specify any DNS servers, the computer realizes it doesn't have an internet connection through my AirPort card.
So I just created two network locations: one for when my network is connected to the internet and one for when it isn't. In the first, I kept my original DNS settings because they work as long as I have an internet connection. In the second I did not specify any DNS servers. This seems to work fine, but I'd still like to know what is trying to access the internet at login. I've disabled the automatic update feature in all my programs that have it, but that doesn't seem to help the slowdown at login. Does anyone know how I could figure out what program is trying to access the internet?

  • My ipod touch is showing I am Connected to Wifi, yet when I attempt to visit a website It Says Not Connected to the internet. I have reset my settings and ipod and this still didn't fix the problem

My ipod touch shows that I am connected to the internet but when I attempt to visit a webpage it says I am not connected to the internet. I have reset my settings & wifi . And that has not helped the problem! PLEASE HELP ME!

Your Wi-Fi seems to connect as a local network but not to the Internet.
Since you can connect to the Internet using your neighbour's Wi-Fi, the problem is definitely your home router.

  • Airport Extreme saying no connection to the internet - cable modem still showing all is good. Airport Extreme light is still green.

I am having an issue where my airport extreme is saying there is no connection to the internet but still shows a green light and the status lights on the cable modem are all good. This is affecting both wired and wireless connection.
Today I had an issue where my iMac (wired) and other wireless devices could not connect to the internet but my work PC (windows 7 and also wired) was connected fine...in fact I was on a VOIP call at the time and had no issues. The only way I have of resolving this issue is to power cycle the airport by unpluging it.
Also, during this time I am unable to access the airport base station through via the airport utilities on my iMac, iPhone, or iPad.

I had the same experience yesterday when my airport extreme is green, cable modem has no problem and no internet on wired iMac or no WiFi. After talking to the cable company, there is nothing wrong with the cable modem and the line, the problem is in the System Preference>Network>Advance>DNS of the iMac. I don't know why as it seems like someone just turn my entire set up upside down. The only thing that I can relate to is that I was trying to figure out with Back To My Mac feature in iCloud between office and home.
In the Network, my DNS server somehow is 10.0.1.1 which is internal Apple IP. Take that out and you would see the actual DNS Servers from the providers.
Also when I look at the airport extreme through airport utilities, in Network setting the Router mode is Off (bridge mode). Once change this and everything is good to go.

  • I am new to the ipod and I have the ipod hooked up to my computer but it says not connected to the internet,  any suggestions?

I am a new ipod touch user.  I have my ipod connected to my computer, but when I try and get into anything it says I am not connected to the internet.
    Please help a newbee????

The iPod Touch requires a WiFi (Wireless) signal to connect to the Internet. It can not connect to the Internet by way of the USB syncing cable.

  • Wi-fi is connected but safari and mail say "not connected to the internet" and "check outgoing server"

When I try to connect to safari, I receive the notice "safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet".  I get a similar message when i attempt to open any of my three mail accounts, which I have since deleted and tried to reset.  The message is something along the lines of "cannot open account - check outgoing mail server..."
I am using the same wi-fi address I've always used.  The ipod shows that it is connected to the server and should not be having problems.
I've already done a network reset, twice.  Other computers in my house work just fine.  This was a spontaneous issue that began two days ago.  Again, it's affecting both mail and safari (that includes itunes store, maps, anything internet based, really - it says "cannot connect")
    Thanks.

I am using a MacBook Air connected to my home WiFi and the connection is trouble free. When I try to connect my 3G iPhone to the same network it asks for my password to join and then shows the WiFi connection with full bars BUT when I launch Safari on the iPhone is says:
    "Cannot Open Page"
"Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the Internet"
I went to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings ... and this did not help
I went to Setting > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings ... and this did not help
I checked the DNS settings under Wi-Fi > my home network > DHCP and the address there (192.168.10.1) matched the number on my MacBook Air under "Network Preferences"
Safari on my iPhone was working flawlessly with Wi-Fi connection only 24 hours ago.

  • AirPort says 'connected' but Safari says 'not connected to the internet'

    I'm stumped.
I just replaced a failed HD. Installed OS from original disk. Airport shows strong signal and says "connected" but when trying to open Safari or check for software updates I receive a 'you're not connected to the internet' message.
Remember I had upgraded to Snow Leopard, so just installed that from disk as well. Same situation with the attempts to wirelessly connect.
Note - all other computers, smart phones, etc in the house can still connect wirelessly. When I connect the MacBook via the ethernet cable, it's fine. Problem is only with wireless connection.
Service is Verizon Fios. Have tried repeatedly restarting the router.
    Any other suggestions?

    John,
Yes, I've been running Software Update frequently over the last 24 hours (needed to update all the software on that new HD) said there were no updates at last check. However, followed link you provided above and installed the Combo update.
Was hopeful on initial restart after that install, as I rec'd a message to the effect of: "none of your preferred networks are connected". Selected my home network (which was listed and with strong signal), entered password and same result - not connected to the internet.
Took your advice above and returned to "Using DHCP" setting. Inital response was "no ip address" and then after short time, "self assigned ip address" "will not be able to connect to the internet". Tried "renew DHCP lease" and continually receive same result. All very frustrating.
My next step will be to try and connect wirelessly on a friend or family member's network (my local Apple store is a bit far away. Easier for me to visit the ones near my office during the work week).
If I am able to connect on another's network, does that indicate it's an issue with my router?
If I am UNABLE to connect on another's network, does that indicate it's an issue with my laptop?
This is so disappointing - the replacement of the HD was so easy, as was the reinstalling of software. This connection issue is souring what was a relatively painless and quick experience.
    Thank you again,
    Christine

  • Software update says not connected to the internet...but I am!!

Can anyone help me please? whenever I try to use Software Update (from either the apple menu or System Prefs-network) I get a prompt saying I am not connected to the internet, but I am as I can launch Safari.
The prompt also asks if I want to run a diagnostic on the network, if I accept and follow the instructions I get a window saying there is nothing wrong with my connection.
Why can this be? Can anyone throw some light on this for me?
    Many thanks, Robert

  • Messenger:mac says "not connected to the internet"

OK, so just today, I downloaded Microsoft messenger:mac from mactopia at Microsoft - Version 7.0.1 (latest one) and signed in to my Messenger account, and the message said the following: "Sign in to Microsoft Messenger failed because the service is not available or you may not be connected to the internet". I checked today, the service is fine, and I have been connected to the internet for the whole day, Still says the message, I even checked, even still, it did not work.
    Any way to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Dr. Power User

I tried aMSN, and it says "Connection refused: reconnecting". The reason for aMSN was that i do not have a Microsoft account, and they are so stupid, they say "I understand that i will not be notified about replies." How do i sort out the connection being refused?
