Front Row 'Sources' not finding media server

Hi all!
I use my Mac Mini as a media server for my apple TV and all my computers/macs with iTunes.
Everything works fine apart from Front Row on my MacBook that only seems able to find my local machine under sources.
Any ideas?

You are not alone. I am experiencing the same problem.
We have consolidated all of our music and videos (much if it purchased via iTunes) onto a NAS media server. Our Macs have no problem seeing the server either from within iTunes or QuickTime Player. Yet, trying to find it using Front Row is impossible. There are no menu source options other than one's own mac or, alternatively, the iTunes Server mothership.
Either this is an oversight in the way Front Row was written, or more likely, it's some Draconian control issue decided in Cupertino.
For anyone who's acquired a lot of content (all legally, too, I might add) and stores it externally of his/her mac, this issue makes Front Row useless.

Front Row can't find the latest version of my iMovie project

I need some help figuring out just where my iMovie project really is.
I have been creating a project in order to learn how to manage all of the features of iMovie '09. I have revised many times and if I follow the path MacHD>Movies>iMovie Projects>first project and click to open, I see the most recent version.
I have also shared using Media Browser and created an iDVD. Then I created a disc image of that and burned it using disc utility - just to see how all of that works. When I use DVD player to play it, I see the most recent version of my 'movie'.
Next I tried to watch it using Front Row. When I open Front Row, then click through Movies to Movies Folder to iMovie Projects the computer tells me that there is no content. What I do have beneath the word Movies is the word Large. If I click on that, I get a much older version of the iMovie project that I thought had been discarded days ago.
This is not a big deal. But I would like to know why Front Row can't find the most recent version of the project. I also would like to know why the old version is still there and reassurance that my latest version really has been saved and that it is 'safe'.

I think that the movies that you see in Front Row are the ones that you shared to iTunes. However, if you click on the movies folder, you should see movies in your Media Browser. These are stored inside your RCProject file in the Movies/imovie Projects/<Project Name> container. If you right-click/Show Package Contents, you should see a Movies folder that has your movie.
Also, there is a quirk in the Media Browser. If you have shared a movie to the Media Browser, and later change the movie, the Media Browser copy is deleted right then. You will see a warning message that says "This movie has already been shared. If you change it you will need to republish" (I am paraphrasing). So you have to re-share the movie for it to be in the Media Browser. However, copies you have shared to iTunes are not affected until you re-share.

Front Row doesn't find any song!

Time ago i was able to use front row with my remote with no problem, now, without doing anything, it appears a message when i try to use it...
"Front Row doesn't find any song
Use iTunes to import songs or to buy songs from the iTunes Store"
I can use the Front Row, i can choose music, playlists, songs, and stuff, but wherever i click, there's the same message
I didn't do anything... just stopped working, i don't know why...

I'm having the same problem. I recently switched to Leopard & the first time I tried Front Row after the change it can't find any songs, podcasts, etc. Itunes works fine in all respects. I'm working on a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo with 10.5.4.
....I'm hoping the answer is not to update Quicktime, because it seems that every update cancels the previously paid Quicktime "pro" features.

PS3 cannot find Media Server on Wired PC

I recently switched from TWC internet using a lynksys wireless router to FIOs internet with an Actiontec MI 424 Rev I router with the latest firmware. Now my PS3 using a wireless connection can no longer find or link to the media server (WMP 12) on my windows 7 desktop PC, which is linked via Ethernet cable to the Actiontec router. My desktop WP 12 is set as before my switch to FIOs to “automatically allow devices to play my media” and under “more streaming options” set to show “devices on all networks” an “unknown” devise (with same MAC address as PS3) is listed and allowed. Same settings show in the “Network and Sharing Center” on my desktop PC.
My PS3 can access the internet using the Actiontec router but not the media server on the desktop PC.
However, my PS3 can link to the Media Server (also WMP 12) on my wireless windows 7 laptop.
But, when I connect my laptop via Ethernet to the router the PS3 loses and can no longer find the WMP 12 media server on my laptop until I return the laptop to a wireless set up. So the problem appears to be with an Ethernet Wired connection to router.
I tried one proposed solution by finding and disabling the IGNP proxy on the Actiontec (page=6059) which worked for some with a similar problem who were using apple products. I rebooted the router, PC and PS3 and still cannot see or connect with the media server on the wired desktop.
Called Verizon support who put me in contact with a tech at Actiontec. The Actiontec tech. asked about some of my settings and said it could be a faulty router and I should ask VZ for an exchange. I would rather check for another solution before I ask for a replacement.
Any suggestions?

Gave up on linking PS3 to WMP 12 on wired PC for now and dowloaded PS3MediaPlayer on wired PC. Initially gave me no renderer found error and my wired desktop did not show up on wireless PS3. But after I disable IGNP Proxy and Norton Firewall - it appears and i can link. Best part is that I can go directly to my itunes music folders which I could not do with WMP 12.
So a problem I could not solve led me to a product I prefer and would not have tried. Good start to a new year.
Now I would like to find how to connect w/o disabling my Norton firewall. But that is a less important issue. I expect its some port forwarding setting that is beyond my knowledge.

2 year old Ibook G4. When I try to open either Safari or Netscape the "can not find the server" box pops up.. I have a solid connection wi-fi for the wireless signal is on full strength. I have cleared my cache. Also I am experiencing start-ups that are taking 2-3 minutes. The color wheel just keeps spinning.Also, I have done repair and I renewed the DHCD. Not sure what else to do?

as a guess, spinning wheel could be caused by failing hard drive.
often failing hard drives will pass all tests by the utilities.
you may want to back up any important files just in case.
if the iBook boots up from the OS install CD/DVD with no problems, issues could be caused by the corrupted files on the hard drive or failing drive.

Safari is not able to open this page because it can not find the server.

I too need help with this problem with my Ipod touch. Currently, I am in the Ukraine, go to a wifi cafe, access the wifi and get a clear powerful signal. Then I try to load the Google page, any page from my bookmark or write the web address in and I receive the same message; "Safari can not open this page because it can not find the server." Something is wrong with my settings and I tried to reset the options but it does not work. Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks!!

The 169.254.xxx.xxx address indicates that there is a problem with DHCP server in your BT Digital Hub (Home hub?) because the iPod is taking a default IP rather than been given a suitable one. At the moment the iPod is not even in the same subnet as the router so it's no wonder that Safari can't find the Internet.
Ensure that the DHCP server is on and that you have an IP-address pool sufficiently large to serve all the devices you have. I'd expect it to be 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.253. If you have FON enabled you certainly need that wider range as other people may be using your router too.

Ok first try it in another Account.
1. Open the account system pref window (System Preferences > Accounts)
2. Click the plus button at the bottom
3. Specify an account name (ex: test)
4. Add account
5. Logout of your current account, and login to the newly created one
If it works, then something was wrong with your account, move your files to the new account, and delete the old one.
If it did not work:
1. Try the reinstall again (DO NOT DO "ARCHIVE AND REINSTALL", as this may keep some file that is hindering FR from operating correctly
2. Make sure the FR file is in the Core Services Folder (Macintosh HD/System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app)
3. Make sure that you do not have the IR sensor turned off on your computer (System Prefs > Security > Uncheck "Disable Remote Control IR Sensor")
4. Make sure that your remote is paired (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302545)
5. Make sure that the Command + Esc key is setup to respond by opening front row:
(1) Open system prefs
(2) Open keyboard & mouse prefs
(3) Click keyboard shortcuts
(4) Scroll down until you see front row
(5) Assign the Command + Esc key if it is not mapped
6. Finally, if all else fails, call AppleCare while your computer is still under warranty

Could not find PPPoe server

I connect to internet wireless and have no problems except I continue to get a popup saying "could not find PPPoe server". I just say ok but it continues to come up every so often. How can I stop it from continually coming up? This just started recently but I can't think of anything I have done that would cause it.

I am getting this same message. When I have the computer on a Could Not Connect To PPPOE Server box keeps coming up every few minutes or so, even if I don't have a web browser launched. I have cable internet through Time Warner Cable. I am using a dual-core Intel Mac Pro with Mac Os 10.5.8. I've had this set up for about two years and ut never used to be a problem, but a few months ago these error meassages started popping up out of no where. Even wierder is that I am connected to the internet with my cable modum, but the computer is still telling me that I'm not. I have called Time Warner and Apple several times, but no one can see where the problem is.

"Could not find PPPoE server" sudden error on DSL connection

I am having a serious issue I can't seem to solve.
I currently have two laptops running:
One PowerBookG4 running Tiger that stays connected to the internet through a regular DSL modem, and shares the signal through wifi to another laptop, a MacBookPro that connects by airport.
I have had this configuration for two years and never had any problems.
Recently my network service had a shutdown and came back up in a few hours. Ever since then - without ever changing any configurations - the PowerBook continuously gives me the error "Could not find PPPoE server".
But it is not a network problem because when I plug the cable into the MacBook Pro - that has the EXACT same network configurations as the PowerBook - it connects just fine.
My internet provider explained that it could be a configuration problem caused randomly and that I need to fix it, but I have no idea how to do it. Already scanned the disk, repaired permissions, everything seems fine.
My PPPoE username and password are correct.
Will I have to reinstall the system? Any help would be very very appreciated.

The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON. So drag Ethernet up there on the PB if it isn't.
I don't think it'll require a reinstall, first let's drag these files to the Desktop, reboot, and setup everything again...

I am havin problem with sound in my Compaq presario V6406TU. When i try to install, it says "can not install the driver: could not find media for this driver", how ever i get a beep for every error message. In my device manager there is no UAA and in services.msc windows audio is started.
I have tried almost everything on net but not able to solve this, plz help.

Yes, I've seen a true SB0220 too on a picture after writing that comment so there is true SB0220 model. But, are you sure your card is SB0220? Did you look the number from a sticker on card board w/ serial number lik MSB022xxxxxxxxxxx where the SB022x is the true model number for your card.
Why you didn't got drivers installed for your card is, because the installer doesn't support the model SB0220 (supported cards are listed in ctcomp.dat -> this is the file ctcomp.exe patches).
IIrc, those drivers are the latest ones for your card. If you like to, you can try soft-mod your card the way, you can use Audigy series drivers (which are a bit newer) -> http://www.tech-pc.co.uk/audigy-2.php (i.e. you just use ctcomp.exe utility to patch the installer for Audigy drivers (use these drivers st - http://www.station-drivers.com/telechargement/creative/%20audigy%205.2.0.042.exe) (newer installer maybe can't be patched w/ ctcomp).

Media player not finding dlna server (wd mycloud)

Hi, all the other media devices (including my xbone) can see the mycloud on dlna but the new media player appears to be unable to find it?
Has anybody else had this issue or solved it?

Im having the same problem. In my ps3 it´s all working just fine but not on my ps4, and settings are the same.When i press the media player icon on ps4 i keep getting that same message that i need to put an usb or create a media server but on ps3 i just wait a minute or two and it instantly recognizes my pc and all the pictures and songs i have there. On PS4 i don´t even get to the point where it shows the "recently watched", " favorites" and all that stuff, sometimes when i press the media player icon i see those folders for a brief of a second but it then instantly goes to that same error message. If anyone could provide to me, and to all people with the same problem, a step by step toturial on how to get this working, i would really appreciate.

Front Row/computer not hooked up to internet?

When I go into Front row, and then into trailers, I'm warned that I am not hooked up to the internet,please check network settings. I'm using Safari and mail while doing this and network diagnostic checks out just fine.
