Front Row Theatrical Trailers Icons Blank

Hi,
I currently have all the latest released updates (itunes 7, qt update, front row update, etc) released september 12. Everything functions correctly except the preview icons for theatrical trailers.
Prior to todays updates I would see a picture of a DVD cover as the artwork for a trailer. Now I see a rectangle with the QuickTime symbol and a question mark below. The titles of the trailers still show when I move from box to box and the previews start loading normally.
I tried removing my front row property list and the front row cache. I also created a new user and had no luck with that account. I've restarted my machine, disconnected all devices (macbook black) and tried repairing permissions. No luck.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-j

Update: I've just installed again QT 7.1.3 using
Software Update and now the trailers thumbnails look
fine.
I suspect the cause of this problem to be the fact
that I upgraded to 7.1.3 using the QT installer from
apple.com, not the Software Update.
Mine has the problem and I used Software Update first. I tried installing again with no luck.
Where can you get the downgrade to 7.0.1? I may try that.

  • Front Row theatrical trailers not connected to internet?

This was working fine out of the box. It seems that after a couple system/soft updates ie. quicktime, iTunes, etc. it will no longer allow movie trailers... 'not connected to the internet'.
My network connections have not changed. I use a cable connect. Airport is turned off; as is Bluetooth.
In other words, my internet connection has not changed and is functioning properly, otherwise I wouldn't be typing this question.
I cannot seem to locate Front Row prefs. Quicktime prefs: Streaming speed on Auto., Instant on.
    Not terribly important, but annoying.

If you use the Accounts System Preferences to create a new user, log out and log in as the new user, can they access the trailers? If not, then you have some kind of system-wide problem. If they can, then your user has some kind of preference/setting issue.

  • Front Row Movie Trailers don't work on Airport Network

I can't view Front Row movie trailers when using an airport network. However, I can see the movies if I bypass the Airport Base Station and connect my iMac straight to my DSL modem via ethernet.
I can access all other internet services via Airport - but not the movie trailers. I would imagine there is some firewall issues with the Airport Base Station - but I don't know how to fix it.
Anybody able else able to see movie trailers on an Airport network?

There is a large discussion of this problem here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=3605
    21&tstart=15
Some people have reported that removing their router
and connecting directly to the ADSL modem fixes the
problem (similar to your experience) while others
(myself included) have found that removing the router
has no effect. I suppose there is a possibilty that
some ISP's block certain ports as well.
Yes that thread gave me a fix:
" I have got it working!
    Try the following:
1 - Go to "Sharing" on the System Preferences and
    turn ON the Firewall
2 - on the right on the Firewall pane select "New"
    and choose "Quicktime"
Voila, it works. (Even if you turn OFF the firewal)l
    it still works.
Let me know if this solution works for more people.
    Cheers!"
Thanks WebSailor for pointing me in the right direction.

  • Front Row movie trailers -- not connected to internet message?

I'm new to Front Row, even though it's been on my laptop for a while! Anyway, when I click on Movie Trailers, I get a message saying I'm not connected to the internet, even though I am (via Airport). I looked at Network Diagnostics as both the message and Apple Support site suggested, and everything is reported as fine (as I knew it would be; I can get to the internet with no problem). The only other thing I found in Support was for machines with more than 1 Ethernet port, which I don't have.
Is there something special I need to do to get Front Row to see I'm connected to the internet? Thanks for any suggestions!

I believe you've encountered a bug with Front Row. If you can, try plugging in an Ethernet cable even if it's not actually connected to the Internet itself. Sometimes Front Row looks only for an Internet connection through the Ethernet port even if the port, itself, is not connected to the the Internet. I think the trailers will play through the AirPort connection anyway...

  • Front Row video trailers

i've noticed that when when i'm watching movie trailers in front row the album art for the movie trailer is blurry and has a low resolution, lower than what it's suppossed to be. how do i make the image more clear?

You don't. Its just how they are pulled off the Internet. Some are at higher resolutions than others.

  • Front Row movie trailers internet connection

    Hello,
I have search everywhere and I haven't found a solution to my problem.
When I open Front Row to watch movie trailers online, it tells me I'm not connected to the internet. But, I am connected to the internet !
In many discussions (and it also seems to be Apple's answer) I read that the problem seems to be solve by plugging an ethernet cable even if you're using a wireless connection (airport).
The thing is, I'm not using a wireless connection. My modem is plug in my computer with an ethernet cable.
Can someone has experienced this and has solve it ?
    Thank you !

i just opened my new macPro last night (Version 10.6.1). the first thing i did was use an ethernet cable to move my apps from my macbookPro (Version 10.5.8).
after a while of playing around with the new macpro i discovered that when i went into front row for movie trailers, it would not connect to the internet, or says im not connected (which i am). normally i dont think i would give a hoot about something so silly but is a brand new out of the box $6,000 system and its nice to know that it works like it should.
im connecting to the internet using airport wireless thru a buffalo router and cable modem.
Anyway, i randomly tried hooking up the ethernet wire from my macPro to my macbookPro and went into front row. it worked!! ????? so whats up? does anybody have some thoughts or ideas about this? i just spent over an hour on the phone with a mac tec, trying various maneuvers and nothing has been resolved.
    thank you all
ps, this is my first discussion post ever!

  • Front Row movie trailers not working

    Hi all,
Is anyone else experiencing trouble with the movie trailers on Front Row?
Whenever I select Movie Trailers I immediately get the message "The movie trailer server is not responding" instead of the list of movies.
This happens immediately as though Front Row hasn't actually bothered to look for the server at all but has simply decided that it isn't available.
The situation is the same for all users on the machine.
I've trashed com.apple.frontrow.plist but this didn't help - not surprising really as the only data I've seen stored in there is the last selected Front Row mode (movies, music, etc)
While researching this problem I found out that the actual address of the movie server is http://www.apple.com/trailers/home/xml/current.xml and sure enough if I access this address in Safari it works absolutely fine.
    Any ideas?
Many thanks in advance, I really miss those trailers!

    Hi Ian,
Just curious, but you have downloaded the Front Row update.

  • Front Row - movie trailers

When I try to view a movie trailer in front row I get a "movie trailer server" error. I have done some research and it appears that I am not the only one with this problem. Is there a fix to this?

No, you are not the only one with this problem....

  • Removing Movie Title in Front Row

I recently bought my new iMac 24" and have attempted to use Front Row, but see there is a title of a video showing on the Movie Menu that I do not want. I went to the User Movie directory, removed the file with that name, but the title still shows on the Front Row Movie Menu. I have tried to reboot the computer to no avail. I have tried to find a preferences folder that might be retaining this title in the cache but can't find one.
Any idea how to remove this unwanted title from my Movies Menu?

I have the same problem with Front Row Movie trailers. I connect to the internet via high speed DSL. Watching movie trailers takes at least 10-15 minutes to fully load. I have no other network activity taking place. I get the same message 'cannot connect to movie server' then I press PLAY on the remote and the trailer PLAYs instantly but hangs after only two seconds. If I wait another few minutes I get only another 2 seconds out of the trailer. This goes on two seconds at a time before I give up.
What is the required datarate for the the movie trailer to play seemlessly anyway? Can somebody answer this?

  • Front Row won't play Theatrical Trailers

When I try to play a theatrical trailer in Front Row on my iMac, I get the following error:
+The selected video could not be played. The format was not recognized.+
Only a few days ago it was working - can anyone help fix this?

Same here. Some work, some don't. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. I have a brand new iMac at work with SnowLeopard, while at home I have a slightly older iMac running Leopard. Last night I tried accessing some trailers at home and some worked, while the one next to it would not. Same thing also on Apple TV. It is infuriating and baffling. It is one of the nice things about Apple TV to be able to browse the trailers... but if they don't work it renders the thing useless.

  • Front Row refusing to load trailers

I've never had a problem with front row, but for the first time in a few weeks I thought i'd browse the trailers only to find that front row just stalled on the "loading theatrical trailer" screen.
Itunes movie and tv show trailers load without issue and my internet connection is confirmed as working and also acknowledged by front row.
    Any suggestions warmly received.

Nice to know at least I'm not the only one. Noticing the problem coincided with a system reinstall and a router change so I was concerned it was one of these factors which may have contributed. Despite multiple rounds of troubleshooting I cannot seem to find the route of the problem.
Its worth noting as well that the trailers are streaming perfectly from the apple web site and the network traffic generated from frontrow seems wholly unremarkable.
Thanks for the confirmation that this is a problem

  • Front Row not playing Trailers or Top 10 iTunes Movies

Hoping someone might be able to help me out with this weird problem I have had for a few months (since before Leopard, but it persists since updating to 10.5.1.)
My Front Row wont play the Theatrical Trailers or iTunes Top 10 movies previews.
It happily updates the list. But whenever I click on one I get:
"The Selected Video Could Not Be Played, The Format Was Not Recognised".
I have no problems playing TV Show previews, Music Videos and my own ripped movies.
I get the same results on my Apple TV and my 18 month old intel iMac.
    Any ideas ? Much appreciated.

I'm having this same problem. The only solution I've found, scouring both the forum and internet, is to wait until it figures itself out, which is completely unacceptable. I recently updated my software and still no joy.

  • Front Row doesn't play trailers

    Hi.
Front Row works as it should except for playing theatrical trailers. It says "Your computer is not connected to the internet." But my internet connection is fine. I also installed the system on a separate volume to make shure it isn't a problem coming from an update, setting or other applications. But it shows me the same error message.
I have another Macintosh with 10.5.8 and on this machine Front Row plays the trailers. So i think my internet connection is fine.
    Mac Pro Quad Mid 2010
    Mac OS 10.6.5

An Apple Tec referenced me to this support article.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1357
This solved the problem. But for my Mac, there was a small difference to this article. I had to set both ethernet ports to dhcp to get Front Row working.

  • Front Row Sloooooooow to play Movie Trailers....

When I go to view trailers in iTunes or even from Apple's website I don't have any problems with them starting quickly and playing through.
However, in Front Row - the movie posters sometimes take upwards to a minute to load and then many trailers will say "loading trailer" for several minutes before finally playing. Once they're going I occasionally get some stuttering as well.
I've upgraded to Quicktime 7.1 which didn't seem to help.
Any ideas or others experiencing similar problems?
    iMac - 17" - 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo - 1Gb DDR2 SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Downloading the movie posters will be a little slow.
The stuttering should not be happening however.
Make sure that QT is setup with your specific internet type (dialup, dsl, t1, t2, etc.)
    1. Open system prefs.
    2. Click QuickTime
    3. Click streaming
    4. Where it says "Streaming Speed:", select your internet type
Try to watch a trailer again, if it still is happening, this might be a problem with the Server which the Apple Trailers is on, since it can get bogged down with requests.
    Hope this helps,
    Cory

  • Movie trailers in the front row / video

I am wondering if there is anyway to get rid of those movie trailers in the front row/video? They must be taking up hundreds of mb of space? Fun to watch but gees...I would rather have the space on my hard drive (I am stingy that way):)

Jeffrey is correct, Front Row plays the movie trailers from Apple's Web site. They're not kept on your hard drive. That's how they change every week. While a small "cache" might remain behind after playing one, it should be cleaned-off the next time you log off or restart.
