  • ISight, Front Row and Apple remote problems

I've been using my iMac G5 with the built in iSight for a month now with no problems, however a few days ago I tried to pause iTunes with the remote and nothing happend.
I have since tried to use Front Row and cannot launch it with the keyboard shortcuts, or indeed, find it anywhere on my hard drive. Very strange as I have certainly not deleted it and only updated it to 1.01 recently.
I have also tried to use my iSight to test the remote using an Apple help sheet but when I launch iChat AV it tells me I have no camera installed! I know it did work as I took a photo of myself when I first set the Mac up.
Apple's advice on deselcting the 'Disable remote control infrared receiver' checkbox in 'system preferences>scurity' confuses me further as I cannot find this checkbox anywhere.
I have performed all the updates with Software Updat, repaired permissions and checked the disk with no problems found.
    Any advice?
    Thanks in advance. Jon

Front Row will be included with the next version of Mac OS X to come out next year, version 10.5 (Leopard). Until it's released, there is no legal way for you to use Front Row. Also, until it's released, we won't know what hardware will work with it (as far as remote controls). If history is any indication, it will be a $129 upgrade for your current Mac mini.
There are a couple of options for you right now, though. There's a shareware program called Media Central that will work similar to Front Row for you.

  • How to start Plex instead of Front Row, using Apple Remote?

Is it possible to start Plex instead of Front Row, using the Menu button on the Apple Remote?

Try out remote buddy to configure the apple remote to lots of things.

  • Is there a way to open Front Row without the remote?

I wonder, is there some keyboard shortcut that will open front row?
I ask because a while ago I was about to force-quit an application(cmdoptesc), and then I cancelled(esc) that and toggled to another application's window(cmd+tab), etc., all of this using only the keyboard. But because of the application that wasn't working right, things got slow, and after waiting a couple of seconds for the other window to appear... Fron Row just appeared in front of me!!!
I don't know if it was some keyboard shortcut that i accidentally pressed, or just a bug. Does enyone know?

    Command + Escape
    arrow keys
    return
    and escape to bail
    good luck

  • Using iPhoto in Front Row without sharing

I know I could use iPhoto directly but is there any way to use iPhoto in Front Row without having to set up the share option in iPhoto?
    Thanks

Is iPhoto up-to-date? There were updates to Front Row in Mac OS X 10.4.x and both applications may need to be up-to-date. It's been a little while since I used Front Row in Tiger. iPhoto can be updated to version 6.0.6. There is also a Front Row update to version 1.3.1 that is specifically for iPhoto integration.

  • Showing photos with Front Row without iPhoto

I love Apple, but frankly I cannot stand iPhoto. With the 2011 release, I tried another time to use it but trashed it a couple hours after.
I have all my picture simply into the Finder, inside a Dropbox folder which keeps them in sync amongst several macs of mine.
So I would like to know whether there is a way to use Front Row to show pictures without using iPhoto.
The best way for me would be to access directly the Finder or the file system. But I could also evalueate using other software, as long as they automatically sync their library with the content of the file system.
Any hint / idea / help?
I had thought of making a movie with the pictures, but that would be too unconfortable...
    Thank you.

    Hi,
I have got the same problem, i used to see the my pictures from all the events in the iphoto, but i think after some SL update i can only hear the slideshow music but no pictures.
I don't exactly remember when front row broke down because i do not use it regularly to watch pictures, i only use it to watch movie trailers, which still works fine.
    Hope someone can help.
    Cheers

  • How can I deploy my AAMEE without Apple Remote Desktop?

    Hi everyone,
I created a build for Adobe CS6 Production Premium for Mac with the serial number embedded, along with the current updates. All is well with that; however, this is the issue that I am having:
I have tried to test the build on a local machine (the computer I created the build on) and was able to install the package with no issues; however, when I try to deploy build onto a networked machine, it doesn't work.
I have read through the AAMEE Reference Guide and have read (if I am not mistaken) that for CS6, you can only deploy an AAMEE build through Apple Remote Desktop onto multiple machines. I have also read that you would need Apple Remote Desktop on all of the machines you want the build to deploy on.
If that is case, if I have read the guide correctly, what is the point of deploying the build through a network if you have to still install ARD onto all the machines you want the software one? How can you get around this to be able to deploy your AAMEE successfully onto a network on machines?
When I tried it last night on one network Mac with ARD, I received the error message for "Validating packages...". I'm not sure what that means because the build works perfectly on local machine.
Any ideas would help as far as deploying the build on a network without using ARD, or really, just a simpler alternative that works?
    PLEASE HELP.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can deploy package using any of these tools - ARD, SSH, Casper suite, Absolute manage, Land desk..and may be more but we have only tried these.
We have mentioned ARD as an example, but other standard tools can be very well used for deploying package. and there is no need to have ARD installed on all machines where you want to deploy the package, but only on admin machine.
can you please let me know - which client OS are you trying to deploy the package and whether the client machine is logged or logged in? please forward install.log if you are facing the error.
    thanks,

  • How to play .cdr files in Front Row without Toast

I just created an image of a few personal home DVD's using the Disk Utility and created as a CD/DVD Master images having extension .cdr . They load fine and I am able to play them via DVD Player, but I wish to see it in Front Row.
I found from the internet that one can use Toast to load such images but I do not have Toast and cannot shell out USD 70/80 for it.
I cannot use Disk Assist as well since this will mean I will have to copy folder from disk to another folder which will be a pain. I certainly will not want to have 2 copies. I don't wish to delete the .CDR .
Is there another way I can see those DVD's in Front Row?

  • Remote access without Apple Remote Desktop

I want to remotely access an i-Mac, at work (which is on a network) from home using a Mac Pro (ISP - Comcast). I was able to use my Mac Pro to access a PC on this same network using a Windows remote access program which was downloaded/free. I've now switched to an i-Mac at work.
I would rather not spend $300 to accomplish this. Is there another way using either free or less expensive software to access my workplace i-Mac?
I do have a copy of Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac if I need to run Windows programs on either the Mac Pro or i-Mac.

Dave, Thanks for the information. We'll give it a try. We have a IT guy here at work, as needed. However, he's not familiar with Macs and uses exclusively PCs. He may not be as much help as I would like in solving this problem. If "Push comes to shove," I could probably remotely log onto a PC which isn't in my workspace . . . one of the "community" ones. That would solve the issue with the scheduling software, at least. (Which is, of course, PC based.)
That would leave my personal Word and Excel files on my i-Mac for the screen sharing feature of Mac OS X 10.6.

  • Front Row Gone?

i've never used it but today i finally busted out my remote and hit menu and front row did now work. hmm. could it just not be installed. where would i find this and can i just install it by itself?

First, try pressing Apple-esc on the keyboard to activate Front Row without the remote.
Does that work? If so, then the issue is either with your remote or the IR receiver. Does the IR receiver appear as an item listed in the USB section of the System Profiler? (You can find the System Profiler in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder.) Have you replaced the remote's battery to make sure there's power?
If the keyboard command doesn't work, there are still a couple of things to try. You might create a new user with the Accounts System Preferences. Log out and log in as the new user. Does the keyboard command work? Does the remote work?

  • Apple remote not working

My Apple remote is not working with my MacBook. The Mac OS X 10.5 Help Knowledge Base says to go to Security > Systems > and Disable remote control infrared receiver. I don't have a systems button or box nor the checkbox to Disable remote control infrared receiver. And, my MacBook has an infrared receiver.

    Hi Focus,
I have the same problem. When I update from TIger to Leopard the front row apple remote still working. But is been a long time the last time i used and now on 10.5.2 osx the apple remote not working as I imagine.
I read some answers that help me understand better the problem. My check box of "disable remote.."is unchecked and I saw a "pair" button and try to pair with my apple remote. The tips told me to HOLD "menu" and "next" buttons of apple remote to pair him with computer. And Works fine. So I try to push only Menu button (as I've done so many times on tiger) but still does not working. So I realize the command to "start front row from apple remote" now on Leopard 10.5.2 is MENU+NEXT buttons and does not anymore only menu button. For me works like this.
While I write this answer I try again push and hold only MENU button and after almost 2 or 3 seconds holding button appears on screen an virtual image of my apple remote signaling to replace the battery, may be now will be works only on push menu, but I need to change the battery first.
    I hope help somebody.

  • Apple remote not fully functional since upgrading to Lion

I've found that since Lion no longer has Front Row, the Apple Remote functionality has been diminished. As I don't have an Apple TV, what good is it now for me to have one? I used Front Row to watch my movies but now this doesn't work. Trolling the intoonet doesn't bring up anything apart from how to restore Front Row. Anyone come up with a similar issue or a solution?
    Thanks, Martin

Thanks again but I have no peripheral devices connected. It's very annoying whenever I close the lid the logo stays lit and the computer does not go to sleep (light on front stays solid white). Each time it happens I have to open and close the lid 3-4 times before it finally goes to sleep. It's as if the computer gets hung up trying to go to sleep.

  • Headless mini disagrees with Front Row

FYI. I'm running a Mini Intel headless via Timbuktu. With no monitor attached the remote does fine controlling iTunes, but when one tries to invoke Front Row, either via the keyboard or the remote, it results in a blank white screen. This was news to Apple, so I thought I'd post the info.
Mini Intel Core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Interesting, I've never tried Timbuktu with Front Row but Apple Remote Desktop works fine.

  • Front Row Apple TV

Why doesn't front row function the exact same way as Apple TV. I don't have a TV to buy an Apple TV for... but I do have a large monitor that I use for everything. I would probably be buying videos from Apple were I able to buy them through Front Row.

I too am disappointed that Apple have again allowed Front Row to fall behind Apple TV. For a very brief period when Leopard was first released, it looked like they were going to get in sync.
_Things Front Row is missing that Apple TV does have_
    No YouTube support
    No Rentals
    No AirTunes support
    No remote iTunes artwork support
    No Flickr support
    No .Mac web gallery support
    No Closed Captions/Subtitles
However things are not all bad, Front Row does have the following which Apple TV does not.
    Support for VIDEO_TS folders
    Support for more video formats
The list of what Front Row does not have is however getting bigger
Personally, I have had to regard both Front Row and Apple TV as too limited, and instead (shock, horror) I use Microsoft Media Center!
