Front sound inputs no longer work! HE

I installed a Sound Blaster Audigy SE a week ago after my motherboard sound card shorted out in a thunderstorm. It was a Realtek AC97. When I installed my Sound Blaster, the front inputs (line-in, mic, and headphones) on my Compaq Presario didn't work anymore. I opened the computer again to see if there was any way of disconnecting them from the motherboard and hooking them up to the Sound Blaster, but I couldn't find any plugs that fit the jacks on the Sound Blaster. I'm running XP home on a Compaq Presario SR403WM. Can any one help? It would make my life SO MUCH easier!

I used a UVC-compliant USB Logitech camera (the
Fusion) driverless
under OS X 10.4.9.
FWIW, none of these devices are actually driverless. They rely on drivers either supplied separately by some company (not necessarily the vendor of the product) or bundled into the OS. Usually, the bundled drivers are based on open standards like UVC mentioned in the link. Apple writes a lot of the bundled driver code itself but some of it comes from outside sources like LSI or Intel.
An unfortunate fact of life is that open standards are not always as well defined as they ideally should be. Another is that certain companies sometimes set their own standards that aren't quite compatible with open ones, sometimes to implement real or imagined improvements on an open standard, sometimes to gain a marketing advantage.
The good news is that the market usually -- eventually -- favors the open standard. The bad news is that it often takes some time for this to happen, leaving users -- particularly Mac users, who still represent a smaller market force than those using Windows -- without a solution for an uncomfortably long period of time.
Your best or only recourse for now may be to downgrade to 10.4.9 until this gets resolved, but you should also take into account that not all users are having these problems so it may be something other than the update itself that is causing the problem. I just video chatted with a colleague using an Intel Mac mini who is having no problems whatsoever -- we are both puzzled why he is unaffected while others are.
Sorry this couldn't be of more help.

Test again in a different user account with a small test library. Does it still not work for a different user after reinstalling?
And test in your regular account with a small test library.
is it possibly something to do with an incombatiability between the new update and a plug-in?
Which plug-ins are you using? Are they all compatible with Aperture 3.4 and Lion?

  • IMac sound is no longer working- help?

This morning i turned on my iMac and the sound is no longer working. When i turn on the computer the start up chime in audible, but after that nothing can be heard through itunes, safari, or anything. When i hit the volume keys on my keyboard it shows that the volume is maxed and underneathe there is a circle with a cross through it. I first tried to resolve the problem by going into system preferernces and disconnecting my keyboard from bluetooth and then reconnecting. That didnt work, so i then put my computer to sleep, then restarted it, then shut it down. Still nothing has changed. I followed this up by resetting the SMC and PRAM, but that also has done nothing. Im not entirely sure what to do! If someone could help me out thatd be great. I feel like there should be a simple solution to this problem, but im just missing it!

Reset the SMC and PRAM each at least 2-3 times. I don't know where you got instructions for these resets so please navigate to Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets for correct instructions just in case.

  • Audio Inputs no longer work after upgrade to 10.4.10

Anyone else having trouble with audio inputs after upgrading to 10.4.10? Here's my deal:
MacPro dual 2.66, 4GB RAM, running 10.4.10 as of this morning.
Upgraded to 10.4.10 today and the mic on my Plantronics USB headset quit working. 'Phones still work. Here's what I did:
    1. Tried multiple audio input devices. None work.
    2. Tried all USB ports, problem persists.
    3. Tried the 1/8" audio input, problem persists.
    4. Zapped PRAM, problem persists.
    5. Called AppleCare and they had me do an Archive and Install on the system software, which installed 10.4.7 and the problem went away. Then, at their suggestion, I let Software Update reinstall 10.4.10 and the problem came back.
    6. Rebooted the system from a 2nd internal drive running 10.4.9 and the problem went away.
Seems pretty clear to me that this issue is with the OS, yet Apple's support staff insists the problem is "with the data on my boot drive". Thing is, the data on the "problem" boot drive consists of exactly the same applications on the other drives, and only those applications. There ** is no ** data on the boot drive other than the OS and some applications. Yet the other drive I can boot from that runs 10.4.9 and doesn't cause audio input issues contains all sorts of junk.
So, to reiterate, I'm booting from a clean boot drive with nothing but OS 10.4.10 and some pro applications on it and the audio input won't work. I boot from into any other Mac OS on this drive or any other and all is well. Yet this problem is supposedly with my data?
Is anyone else out there seeing issues like this?

  • Analog inputs no longer working on Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro's external dr

I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro. After two years of use without problems, the analog inputs on the external dri've have stopped working. I get no signal from them, not even noise. All 3 inputs are silent, Line in / Mic and Line 2 in the front, and Line 3 in the back. Otherwise the dri've appears to function normally - I get output from the headphone jack, and the volume control knob works. I have not tested digital inputs or outputs, as I currently have no digital devices to connect to them.
I had made no major changes to my computer - software or hardware - when the problems began. I recently added a new SATA hard dri've, but the Audigy dri've did work after that.
I've taken steps suggested in another thread on this forum and uninstalled all Creative software and drivers, used the latest driver package's uninstall program as well as Driver Cleaner, and finally manually deleted everything related to Creative and Audigy from the system registry (and rebooted quite a few times in between). I then installed the original drivers from the CD that came with the sound card (a setup that has worked before), but still the problem persists.
Any ideas on where to even begin looking for a solution? I find it hard to believe that it's a hardware problem, since three inputs suddenly went silent at the same time, and no other connections were affected. Yet I've done as clean a reinstall as possible, and that hasn't solved the problem.
    My current computer configuration:
OS: Windows XP Pro (SP2 and all latest updates)
    CPU: Athlon XP 500+
    RAM: 2x 52 MB
Motherboard: Abit AN7 (integrated sound chip disabled)
Video card: Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro
    Network card: D-Link DFE-530TX
    Hard dri've : Seagate ST320026A, 20 GB IDE
    Hard dri've 2: Maxtor 6L080J4, 80 GB IDE
    Hard dri've 3: Seagate ST330083, 300 GB SATA-II

I don't have a Platinum Pro or the dri've, but a general hardware troubleshooting step I would take would be to remove the soundcard and either move it to another slot or re-seat it. Also, I'd disconnnect and reconnect all cables to and from the card and the dri've. If I had another machine I could try the card or dri've in, I'd do that. If I could borrow another dri've or even another card, I'd test those too. (Swapping parts is often the simplest diagnostic.) Yeah, maybe it's not a hardware problem, but I'd take these steps just to rule out some possibilities.
Edit: And if you can remove or disconnect the SATA dri've and restore the system to the condition before you installed it, that's another good test.Message Edited by Katman on 2-8-2005 2:56 AM

  • My sound is no longer working, how can i get it to work again?

My Macbook Pro sound drivers are no longer operating, everytime I turn on my laptop a message appears on the screen asking me to stop using headphones and after I click "stop using headphones", there is no sound, my volume levels show a bold mute sign indicating that there is no sound driver. If someone has knowledge in regards to this and potentially are capable of resolving this, please notify me at once as I am impatient of hearing no sound to play music and want my sound drivers to operate once again. Thank you.

Just to clarify, it only works when the phone is plugged in and charging. What happens when you try to activate it? Is there any error message?

  • Audio inputs no longer works.

About 2wks ago I started having a problem video chatting in iChat. The video worked great and I can hear the audio output from the other person in the chat. However, the person on the other end of the chat can't hear me.
When I checked the microphone settings for iChat I noticed iSight was no longer available in the drop down menu. I tried a different iSight that I know works and still nothing. I tried plugging into a different firewire port, but nothing. So I went into the "System Preferences>Sound" and the iSight doesn't show up there either. I plugged in an external mic into the line-in and I still don't get anything. I even tried just doing an audio recording in Quicktime to see if the issue was with iChat but that had the same result.
So ... I think the issue is with the line-in driver. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi, Im having trouble with my Iphones sounds, it wont let me listen to music, watch videos, notify me if i get a text, basically everything that makes a sound is no longer working. The volume level you get when you play music isnt there, HELP?!

Hi, basically i have no sound at all on my Iphone, it doent notify me when i get a text, when someone rings, when i play music or watch videos, the volume slider that is usually present while watching videos or listening to music is no longer there at all, ive turned my phone on and off a couple of times now ive put headphones in and out to see if i had a sticky jack but still no luck Someone help??

And to clarify, these are all iTunes movie and music downloads, so there should not be a compatability issue. And no, the iPod did not come damaged from Apple, it was a hand-me-down from a friend who busted the internal speaker. But it's never done anything like this before. It just had crappy sound. And yes, the timing of the movies and music having issues is the same as the speaker dying. And no, this has NOTHING To do with music videos. I don't have any on any of our devices.

  • My mac books sound is no longer working what can I do to fix it?

I was playing a game and when I unplugged my head phones just stopped working.

Most likely you flipped the micro switch located inside of the headphone port.  Check if the light inside there is on, it should be red.  if it is red stick a toothpick inside of it and gently wiggle it around until the light turns off or in
[ system preferences > sound > output ] the internal speakers pop up.
if the light is not on go to [ system preferences > sound > output ] and select the internal speakers.  Make sure you volume is set to a reasonable ammount and anything you are trying to listen to has the program volume set to a reasonable ammount.

  • [SOLVED] USB Sound card no longer working

I have used a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, a USB audio interface, as my default sound card for the last two months or so. Its output comprises two RCA jacks. I have a cable that is two RCA male leads on one end and an 1/8" on the other. I use this cable all over the house, so I unplug it often. The USB device remains connected. Last night, while plugging the cable back into the device, I jostled the USB and the device lost power momentarily. Since then, ALSA has not been able to "see" the device. The device is, and always has been, plugged into a D-Link USB hub, which goes into the computer.
I did pacman -Syu and rebooted to no avail.
    uname -r
    3.15.1-1-ARCH

    #options snd slots=snd_usb_audio,snd_hda_intel
    options snd_hda_intel index=-2
    options snd_usb_audio index=0
The first line I recently commented out as an experiment. If this line is left in, ALSA attempts to use snd_usb_audio and when I run alsamixer it complains that it can't find the device. If this line is commented out, ALSA ends up using the on-board sound. Particularly, it uses 'HDA ATI HDMI'. There are two choices: HDA ATI HDMI and HDA ATI SB. When I was using the on-board sound, I was using HDA ATI SB.

This is painfully true. This morning, I realized I didn't even check the D-Link. The LEDs on the interface were lit up from the USB connection, but the AC adapter was faulty. I replaced that, restored my original configuration by removing the # from the first line of my alsa-base.conf, and now everything is working again. The D-Link was simply unable to provide the device with enough power to operate.

  • Updated to 10.7.2 and sound is no longer working.

Running a 2010 11 inch Macbook Air. I updated to 10.7.2 and now the sound doesn't work. Annoying!
Anyone experiencing the same issue or know how to fix it?

It happened to me too on my MBA 13 2011.  Even if it fixes itself after a reboot, it shouldn't happen in the first place.  My wife's MBP 13 2009 also has various sound issues that aren't fixed yet.

  • Delta R-Bus spDIF input no longer works under Tiger?

The spdif input on my M-Audio Delta R-Bus card works flawlessly in Logic 4.8 under OS9, but does not work in Logic 7.2 under OSX Tiger.
I spoke with M-Audio Support but they said that the Delta R-Bus is mothballed and I should get something newer They didn't even want to bother to test it.
Any other Delta R-Bus users out there who could confirm or deny this fault?

Thought you could use this info about getting FireWire to work!
First, you should always Repair Permissions in Disk Utility before and after any update; I would do that now. If you installed your update with FireWire plugged in, your Mac may not recognize it anymore.
Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting all FW devices, shut down your Mac and unplug it from AC power (wall socket) for 30 minutes. plug it back in and try FW.
If that didn't work, download the combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.
If that still didn't get it Zap the PRAM. While restarting Mac hold down the following key combo Command-Option-P-R. Keep holding those keys down till you hear the second start-up chime, then release.
For those of you with Macs that are not PowerBooks or iBooks, a bad internal PRAM battery can cause FireWire to not be recognized, so make sure it's good! Also, here is Apple KB HT1317 on getting FireWire to work.

I have seen this thread in an attempt to fix my issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5310311?start=0&tstart=0
I upgraded to 10.8.5 and now there is no way to play audio from sites like YouTube or Vevo.  Audio works and the audio out jack also work but not from non-native Apple programs (like a browser)
It is unclear what caused the issue but it seems to be no longer working

YouTube might have changed the setting. Volume slider may be hidden.
    Temporary fix:
Hover the mouse near the speaker icon  and hold it to reveal the volume slider.
    Increase the volume level.

Ever since the most recent firefox update, if I want to turn down a youtube video using my keyboard sound control buttons, I have to unselect my firefox window. Any solution for this?

hello, i think this is caused by the update of adobe's flash plugin to version 11.3 which has introduced a socalled protected mode, which apparently is breaking the transmission of hotkey input back to the operating system when flash has focus.
you could try [http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071 disabling protected mode] in flash or [http://forums.adobe.com/thread/889580 downgrading to a prior version].
