FRONTEND UNAVAILABLE

Hi
I have an strange problem in printing, I am using the Access Method "G" for the printing. users has no complain about the printing, they are printing fine but SP01 is always show the spool request in "WAITING" and "frontend unavailable".
Please advise us.

Anwer Waseem

Hello Manomeet,
This concept that front end printer can be used for background is partially incorrect or shall I say partially correct. They can be used but automatic printing wont happen. You need to select the spool and then fire the print.
Also you have mentioned "<i>Printing on a frontend printer means that the SAP System can reach the Frontend (the PC), this is not guaranteed. Perhaps you turn off your PC and then the background job can't reach your frontend</i>.
Immediate printing ain't possible with front end printer. SAP wont do immediate printing even if you select that option.. You need to select the spool and the fire the print out. To do this of course your PC needs to be on and working.

  • BackGround Job's Spool Request is having "Waiting" "Frontend unavailable"

    Hello Friends,
I am facing one problem related to Spool Request, which is generated through Scheduled Background Jobs (scheduled by funcional people).
The Background Job is having status "completed" when analyzing it. But, its associated Spool Request is showing "waiting" Status, with "Frontend unavailable" as Status Text.
Here is the brief status of that Spool Request.
    28448     1      300 USER1 00:00 LP01 X_65_80      Frontend unavailable
    in Detail:
    Description          Value
    Status:              Frontend unavailable
    Last event:
    Message:             Request on hold
    Date:                01.07.2009
    Time:                00:00:27
    Job status:          On hold
    Error class:         Delayed
    Area:                Data transfer
    Printout:            Not printed
The Setting of LP01 O/Device is as followed:
    Output Device        LP01
Device Type        SWIN SWIN  : Windows printing via SAPlpd
    Device Class      Standard Printer
Host Spool Access Method       F F: Printing on Front End Computer
    Host printer                     __DEFAULT
Moreover, the SAP User USER1 is allocated LP01 as Output Device with "Output Immediately" & "Delete After Output" checked status.
Some Background Jobs are showing the same status for this LP01.
    I have a doubt on allocated O/P Device LP01.
Any Clue for this issue ?

    Hello Markus,
Here , in our Landscape , there is not Print Server. All are taking prints through, Networked Printer and their local connected Printers.
Can i configure "send to SAP Spooler for now" instead of "Print Immediately "in the Print Specification of those Background Jobs ?
Moreover, Some Background jobs are sending E-Mails with the processed Reports as an Attachments. They are showing sometime unexpected behavior, in sending emails,  although there is no relation is with this Printing related issue.
When i am looking into "Overview of Send Orders" of SCOT, some Background Jobs are showing success for sending emails, and some are not showing success, even though All the recipients are same for the scheduled Background Jobs which are running on same time.

  • Frontend unavailable spool request

    Hi All,
We are getting a message saying that frotend unavailable for a spool of a job.I double clicked on title in the spool and changed the
output device from frontend to dummy.I wanted to know as why we are getting the error.Thanks.

We need more info than this... frontend unavailable usually pops when you are printing/spooling  to a printer from a location where the definition is simply unavailable.

  • Frontend Unavailable, delayed for some users

    Hello SAP Gurus,
I have over 900 printing jobs delayed from various users including WF-BATCH delayed on PRD server with the messages: Frontend Unavailable, Delayed, Waiting...
    Please advice.

    Hi,
It is likely that you have batch jobs that create spool requests pointing to frontend printers.  As there is no frontend available to the batch process the jobs wait with the status you are seeing.
    You have a number of options;
If you don't actually need to print this output, change the printer settings in the batch job to remove print immediatly.
If you do need this output printed, change the printer settings in the batch jobs to point to a networked printer, rather than a frontend printer.
Don't forget, you may need to do this for every job that is scheduled.
    Regards,
    Nick

It may be the reason that your o/s printer is not reachable from sap.

  • Frontend printing issue

    Hi,
In our SRM system there is background job runs ZPRINT_PO which runs successfully but it gives the spool request which shows status "waiting".When i double click on status it shows me Status text "Frontend unavailable".
If I try to re-print this manualy than it shows in completed status.
Can anybody please suggest on this....
    Regards,
    Manish

    Hello Manish,
it seems that you try to print the spool in background and that your printer is a frontend printer with the 'Host spool access method F: printing on Front End Computer' (in transaction SPAD).
This doesn't work as far as I know. You have to provide a printer with an other Host spool access method, e.g. C or S or U).
Printing on a frontend printer means that the SAP System can <b>reach</b> the Frontend (the PC), this is not guaranteed. Perhaps you turn off your PC and then the background job can't reach your frontend.
    Hope that helps,
    Michael

  • Frontend uavailable error

    Hi,
I had an requirement in which i need to print a smartform. The steps starts from a scanner where it will trigger the printing in SAP using BAPI.BAPI is using VL71 to print the form. But i am getting the status in spool list as "waiting" and error message as" frontend unavailable" .So is it related to any of the control parameters that i had defined for smartform or due to any other issue.
    Please help.
If an manually using VL71 or VL03N it is printing fine. No isssue.
    Regards,
    Arun.

    Hi  Arun Rajan,
While using VL71 or VL03N  manually the front end is available to give you output spool. but as per my understanding you are not running this process at front end directly..  you have scheduled it in background job and it is getting triggered when some action takes place... eg. scanner action...
    Check out T-Code : SPAD..
There check out the printer you are using as Output Device
    and Check the Access Method...
If it's G ( G: Frontend print with control technologie ) or F   it will be in need to have access to the front end.. So it will not print and will be in Waiting status...
    Also...
For the Background Job you can change the user details from SU01 and just Uncheck the checkbox Print Immediately if it's checked...
    OR..
create the printer on a print server, connect the SAP system to the print server and print via network.
You can ask the help of BASIS or Network Admin there to configure it as well...
Hope it will solve your problem..
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,
As far as printing to devices not all devices support Bluetooth. Many devices support Bonjour protocal, IPP. The main print port is 9100. Additionally you can see what IO protocols are supported on a product by looking at the EWS (Embedded WebServer) there should be a networking page with that information.  Port 9100 is your basic print port and different devices will support different formats (PDF, JPEG, PCL5, PCL6). If there is an API you can find (i am not familiar with J2ME availible calls, then you can use those and send the data to port 9100. Again that is the basic path most printers will accept. not all devices support bonjour not all device support bluetooth etc... Hope that helps and good luck.

    Hi all,
I'm facing an issue where my SAP background job currently has 2 job "SAP_CCMS_CPH_REORG" and "SAP_CCMS_CPH_HRCOLL" under the ownership of sap. I would like to move them away from SAP ID.
I have tried to recreate the job using sm36 (and using my ID with sap_all profile) in testing environment, but it not seem to work.
Highly appreciates any advices and/or pointers with regards to the above mention question.
    Thank you.

    Hi all,
Thank you for the reply but I have forgotten to add a few updates.
The issue is that I can change owner from SAP* to my ID with sap_all profile.
    But, after execution,
Job with sap* owner ended successfully, with spool status marked as completed.
    whereas
Job with my ID as owner ended successfully, but spool status marked as "waiting"

    Hi Konchada,
well, it seems you are missing some config steps. The server driven setup can be a little tricky if you do it the first time. Please have a look into this document, it describes the necessary steps really well:

when you convert data to be printed to PDF format: change it to convert to OTF format
then create a spool with this content and print it
if you want it to be printed on the printer of SAP user, then define a printer pointing to LOCL

    hi
    chk this statement
    if sy-subrc <> 0.
message s208(00) with 'Error'. --> where will the status bar msg. occur in bground
    leave list-processing.
    endif.
maybe the subrc might be false, and triggering this condition, which i believe will not work in background
