FrontRow & iTunes Extras

Apologies if this has already been answered - I've had a search around and couldn't find anything definitive.
Are iTunes Extras movies purchased from iTunes playable from Front Row? Even if only the movie itself shows up, that would be fine, although obviously it'd be nice to have the extras too. We use a Mac mini as our media-centre exclusively through Front Row, so if it won't show up there's no point buying the movie!
Cheers

OK, so nobody wants to talk to me! I can take the hint
I took the plunge, so for anyone else who wants to know: yes, iTunes extra movies show up in the "movies" section of FrontRow, and no, the extra content doesn't work. You can play the movie just fine, but don't expect to make use of any of the extra material you've paid for (without resorting to mouse, keyboard and iTunes). This is with OS X 10.6.4.
So, better than nothing, but far from ideal. Maybe in the next FrontRow update?

  • HT1725 I bought a movie last night and it downloaded. But when the ITunes extras were downloading, my G drive disconnected accidentally. I have tried to check for available downloads and all of their steps but nothing has worked. What do i do now?

I have tried all of their steps online and there is no phone number to call. I don;t want to repurchase the item just for the ITunes extras!

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • How do i use iTunes extras with apple tv?

I purchased a movie from the iTunes store that came with iTunes extras.  I'd like to view the extras from my apple tv (2nd generation), but haven't been able to figure out how or if I can.  Does anyone know how I can do this?

Buy an AppleTV1 - that could handle them as well as itunes LP.
    Crazy, crazy, crazy.

  • Error when downloading itunes extra from icloud

I purchased 2 movies from itunes and wanted to put them on my kids ipods and iphone, but i can't. The movies will not go into the ipod (nano), I get a message that says that i need to download the full movie content before syncing. I've tried to but the only thing that dowloads is the movie the rest (itunes extra content) will not download.

  • ITunes Extras file locked on External iTunes Server  - Help Appreciated

    Hi all,
    Here's the set up.
I've just put our entire iTunes library (it's all housed within one iTunes account) on a new LaCie Wireless Space NAS unit. So basically everyone in the household (me, wife and two kids) can access the same music library etc.
I've pointed everyones ITunes preferences to the external library on the NAS and they can all individually access and play tracks OK.
The problem seems to arise when, for example my son fires up iTunes on his MAC starts to play some tracks, but then my daughter wants to do the same, she cant get on to the music library on the NAS as we get an error message that says- "The iTunes Extras is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file"
I've tried trashing various .plist files, checking access privileges, but cannot seem to solve the issue.
She can access the library OK when it seems no one else is doing the same, it seems to be an issue when multiple users try to access the same iTunes library on the NAS.
Any help, suggestions or work-arounds would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

Is iTunes running on MB A when you open iTunes on MB B? If so, that is probably the reason iTunes is saying the file is locked. Only one iTunes can read/write to the DB files at a time.

I recently downloaded my digital copy of titanic and from the itunes extras screen I push play and nothing happens.  The movie is not listed, only the itunes extra is listed in the list.  How do I repair?

I have the same problem on the latest iTunes software and Windows 7. My window is maximzed and I do not see any tab for photos. Seems related to a recent update (IOS7?) as this was there - at least before the very big change to the interface.

  • Downloading iTunes Extra "Error -19" Message

    Hey Everyone
I've recently run into a strange problem.
While downloading the iTunes Extra for two movies (TED Unrated + Batman Begins), I'm getting the error -19 message.
The extras download fully, I can see in the Status window that iTunes starts processing, then I get "stopped (err = -19)."
There was a problem downloading “Batman Begins - iTunes Extras / Batman Begins / Christopher Nolan”. An error occurred while reading from the device.
Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again.
    I'm running iTunes 11, with MacOS 10.6.8.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    All the best!

I went through the forums and I found several other threads with exactly the same problem:

I contacted Apple support and the representative added the album back to my available downloads in iTunes, but the problem still persists. All songs download fine except for the iTunes LP.
I wonder if anyone using the US iTunes store is having this problem... I'm starting to guess this is related to the LP not being available in some of the other stores, which is strange as the album with the LP was available for sale...

  • ITunes Extras for The Help not playing

I bought The Help in HD with iTunes Extras. I can't seem to play any of the videos such as the deleted scenes. I contacted Apple Support and they sent me another file to download again. The same problem still occurs though. Apple said that they'll look into it.
I broswed my computer hard drive and found the missing files for the bonus videos. They're all located in C:\Users\Owner\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Downloads\The Help - iTunes Extras _ Tate Tayl.tmp\The Help - iTunes Ex 1.tmp. There's a total of 8 videos loacted in 8 different folders titled Tate Tal.tmp\The Help - iTunes Ex 1-8.tmp, but the files names are all titled download. They can't be opened in iTunes Extras because they don't have the correct file name.

I've seen a few of these threads now. I think the current build of iTunes must be failling to unpack the video files properly. I've had another hunt around the Extras folder structure and it seems the files are detailed in ...\controllers\data.js. This is the relevant section from the Batman Begins Extras:
      audioLoop : { src : "audio/batmanbegins_loop.m4a", loop : true},
    extras  : [
{ thumb : "image_videoBox_mind.png",    structure: "shaping",  string : "Shaping Mind & Body",         src : "batmanbegins_shapingmindbody.m4v",  time: "12:49",      blurb : "Examining the construction of the fight sequences. "},
{ thumb : "image_videoBox_tumbler.png", structure: "tumbler",  string : "Batman: The Tumbler",         src : "batmanbegins_batmantumbler.m4v",  time: "13:40",   blurb : "Goyer describes it as a cross between a Lamborghini and a Humvee. This featurette details it from conception to its current form."},
                  { thumb : "image_videoBox_journey.png", structure: "journey",  string : "Batman: The Journey Begins",  src : "batmanbegins_journeybegins.m4v",  time: "14:16",   blurb : "Interviews with Christopher Nolan, David Goyer, Christian Bale, production designer Nathan Crowley, as well as others. "}
Using this it might be possible to work out what the temp files should be called. They need to go into a videos folder.

  • HT1725 Problem with downloading "iTunes Extras" from digital copy of a movie purchase

When I downloaded a digital copy of Despicable Me 2 I saw the movie and the separate "iTunes Extras" downloading.  However, it seemed to get stuck on "processing".  After restarting the "extras" have disappeared.  Any way to get them back?

It will depend upon if the rights-holder keeps the film in your country's store, but you shouldn't rely on being able to do so  - you should be keeping and maintaining your own backup copy of all of your downloads from the store, you are only guaranteed one download of each item.

  • Error in iTunes Extras Download

I downloaded UP from iTunes and received the iTunes Extras of it as well. However, the balloon that would fly into the menu is glitching and messing up. • ITunes Extras not playing

I have read multiple threads on this issue (over a year old, and for the Windows version of iTunes), but haven't seen any fixes yet (for Mac or Windows).
I have a dozen or so movies that I purchased from the iTunes store (or downloaded as Digital copies included with a Blu-ray purchase). When I double-click on the iTunes Extra in iTunes [Build 11.0.4 (4)] or when I try to access it via my AppleTV3, absolutely nothing happens. It doesn't play, and there are no error messages.
Does anyone know a fix for this problem? Or is this something I should bring up with my local Genius Bar?
Any help would be muchly appreciated!
    Cheers!
    -X-

I "did" mention it was in iTunes that I was having the problem. I am well aware that iTunes Extras don't sync to iDevices.
I found out from the Genius Bar that it never worked on AppleTV (even though it appears in the list under movies when in Home Sharing). So, we can disregard that part.
Also, the person at the Genius Bar is escalating this to the iTunes Engineering Team to figure out why they stopped working.
I'll keep everyone updated with what is found.

  • The play option is not available on some iTunes extra titles on Apple TV

With the latest update iTunes extra has been added to Apple TV, which is pretty cool.  BUT some titles do not have the "play" option once you are in the iTunes extra menu.  All the features are there, but the play option is not.  This is particularly happening with the movie Planes.  Other Disney titles, and non-disney titles, seem to irk fine.  It works from my MacBook Pro.  I have logged out and back into iTunes on my ATV with no change.  Any ideas?

It sounds like lack of testing with these titles in all honesty.
I guess you could also alert itunes Store support to this.  Hoepfully it's just the odd title here and there, and something that can be quickly fixed, but kids won't understand that!
I'm dissapointed that the old Extras I have downloaded in iTunes won't work as they would with AppleTV 1 when streamed from iTunes.
Uncertain if you can download Extras to iTunes anymore either if they are cloud dependent and in some new format perhaps.  Yet to try but I don't think they'd work via Home Sharing.

  • How do I stream iTunes Extras to my AppleTV?

After downloading an HD movie from iTunes, including iTunes Extras, how do I stream the 'Extras' to my TV?  Seems strange that this isn't an option.
    Thanks!

Get an AirPort Express.  It has an audio out which you can connect to the line-in on your home theatre system.  All the other devices will talk to the AirPort Express and stream content to it via wi-fi.

  • How do I play iTunes Extras?

I have upgraded my AppleTV with the new 6.2 upgrade and my laptop with iTunes 11.3 that are supposed to support iTunes Extras on the AppleTV. How do I access the content on the Apple TV?
I have tried with newer movies that I have in HD like The LEGO Movie and Frozen both of which are listed as having compatible iTunes extras which I can watch in iTunes 11.3. (The LEGO Movie was purchased directly from iTunes, Frozen was a Digital HD copy that came with the BluRay).

Well, I'll chime in with my own test….
Cleopatra (Burton/Taylor 1963) downloaded to iTunes some time ago in HD.
iTunes Extras files also downloaded with animated backdrop on menu screen.
    AppleTV:
    Movies>Purchased (cloud)    No iTunes Extras
    Computers>iTunesLib>Movies     Main movie only
Pretty poor show really - no legacy format support, cloud only it seems and inferior quality (static vs animated)…..I'm actually very very surprised and cannot fathom why it should be so difficult to implement unless it's a new format with better options going forward…
