FrontRow no go with ScreenSharing?

I have a Mac Mini hooked up to an HDTV that I manage remotely. I just updated to 10.6.4 from 10.5 and when I launch Front Row via ScreenSharing, I just get a black screen. Any idea what is going on here?
I saw a similar issue posted previously and the author said a few threads later it was "fixed" but didn't say how he did it.
Any advise appreciated, thanks!

Same problem here. And yes, I'm synching from within iTunes. I have an external iPhoto library stored on a hd connected to my Airport Extreme. I cant synch any photos this way, I just get the "Missing file" error message.
If I move the library to the local hd though, I get fyllt functional synch.
Which makes me wonder if this is a file ownership matter...?

  • Share audio with screenshare AND keep the micropho...

    Hello,
I need to use Skype for the following: I teach music production courses over Skype and I need to be able to share sound between our programs via screenshare. Yet I also need my microphone to work for communication.
I have found audio sharing possible via SoundFlower, however it disables my ability to use the microphone on Skype.
Is there a way around it?
    Thanks.

That's correct and has been discussed on this forum in tons of threads.  If you have unlimited data and want to keep it (at least for now), your choices are:
pay full retail price for a new phone at Verizon
buy a phone from somewhere like swappa or ebay (somewhere that doesn't require a new two-year Verizon contract)
get a subsidized phone from Verizon, sign a new two-year contract, and switch to a tiered data plan (i.e., 2 GB for $30); this applies if you're currently on a Nationwide plan ... older plans may force a switch to the Share Everything plan
if available, upgrade another line on the account and move that phone to the unlimited line (of course, if that line also has unlimited data, it will be lost)
add a line to the account for a new subsidized phone, move the new phone to the unlimited line, and put a basic phone on the new line and drop the data plan (of course, that would involve paying a monthly fee for the additional line, and the ETF would be based on the smartphone purchased, not the basic phone on the line)

  • How to live chat with screensharing

Hi i setup screensharing and i can control my fathers computer but i need to live chat or something that will let me commcate with him is this possibnle with screensahring

    Hi,
In Mountain Lion the Messages app with an AIM or Jabber account can Screen Share with an Audio Chat along side to another Mac that is using the same Service (AIM or Jabber) type.
Apple ID issued by Apple are valid AIM Screen Names (those ending in @mac.com, @me.com or @icloud.com)
Jabber names can include Google Mail IDs with "Talk" enabled on the Google web site settings.
Or Facebook IDs can be used after you enable "Chat" at your Facebook Settings.
(There are also many other jabber server you could register an ID).
It is AIM to AIM or Jabber to Jabber.
The Apple IDs need to keep their passwords to 16 characters or Less as this is the AIM server limit.
@me.com and @icloud.com names can not be used in iChat 5 or earlier.  (it's to do with a Login iChat 6 and Messages make to Apple that then allows AIM to "see" the Password that does not happen in earlier versions)

  • LCCS Screenshare-How to view the shared screen?

    Hi all,
Im new to LCCS,doing lccs screen sharing application using Flash Builder 4.I have used session.streamManager.maxP2PStreamPublish = 20;    session.streamManager.streamMulticast = true to publish my screen,How can i view the shared screen from another system?Do i need to use the subscriber in another system to view the shared screen? Can anyone plz help me...
    .Thanks in Advance
    Duva

    Hi Duva,
Have you tried using the Screen Sharing SampleApps? You can download them from our SDK Navigator. Within the "ScreenShareExample" folder has "ScreenSharePublisherExample.mxml" and "ScreenShareSubscriberExample.mxml" which I think might help
Here is the info from the Readme about these examples:
ScreenSharePublisherExample:This example shows how to publish one's screen and share with other subscribers in the same room who has its publisherID. When invoke this publisher, Adobe Screen Share Addin will appear and a sharing dialog will pop up for asking which application/view to share.  Upon confirmation,
both streamID and publisherID will be displayed on the center textfields.  Use the publisherID on the screenshare subscriber to see the screenshare.  (Please verify account information and roomURL before using the publisher)
ScreenShareSubscriberExample:With right account information and roomURL, this application will connect to the first screen share publisher in the room (you don't need to specify the publisherID).
Here are some good pages with ScreenSharing info that you might find helpful as well:

  • Frontrow locks up

    Hi there,
I have my iMac at university, where all our internet runs through proxies.
These are password protected (the user info/password is stored in my keychain). I've noticed that when updating the system (10.4.3 - 10.4.4 for instance) that the first time I run any internet-accessing program it says "Program has been updated...allow keychain access to *IP of proxy*? Always, once, never".
Now if i click always, then that program has no problem connecting to the web and doing its thing.
My frontrow is working great, the only problem being the movie trailer feature. The program completely locks up, I don't even get the "server not responding" message that I have read about.
I downloaded a similar program to frontrow, mediacenter...and noticed that a similar thing happened when it needed to connect to the internet. I had to force end it, and as it quits i see the previously described keychain update dialog box waiting for me to click it in the background (unfortunately it goes away as the program is in process of quiting).
I think this could be my problem with frontrow, but i never see the box because frontrow obviously runs full-screen in its own "layer". Does this sound like it could be the culprit? And does anyone know a way around this? Can I give frontrow permission to use the proxy keychain entry in advance for instance?
    Thanks for any input,
    Ben Kay
(p.s. sorry this is so wordy )

OK, figured some out myself. I opened up the two proxy login keychain items to "all applications". This fixed the trailer feature of "mediacentral" but frontrow still hangs with a spinning icon to the right of "movie trailers" option.
I've left it for ages and nothing happens, I have to force quit to get out of frontrow.
    Any ideas please?
    THanks,
    Ben Kay

  • Screensharing Macmini using iPad2

I have a Macmini which is not connected to a monitor or TV. Among it's many uses is that I use it to stream movies to my iPad or PS3 using Air Video and Media Link respectively. If I want to do anything on my mini other than streaming etc I tend to screenshare using Logmein on my iPad.
This worked brilliantly when my mini was connected to my TV but now that it's not, and I've gone down the streaming route, I am having issues with screensharing resolution.
My preferred resolution is 1280x1040 but when I restart my mini the resolution tends to default to 1024x768 when using Logmein. Not only does this obscure some of my menu bar icons but when I change the resolution back to 1280x1040 the menu bar remains at the 1024 size, so it looks like a chunk at the top right corner is missing.
I never had this issue when a monitor was connected, so clearly it is a video issue of some sort.
Is there another VNC app I could try instead or a way in which I can force the screen resolution and menu bar to stay at 1280 x1040 when using Logmein?
    Thanks.

You may have to get a device to spoof the EDID of your TV.

  • Fixing the screensharing bug

    Hello everybody,
if there are problems with screensharing after installing SL, the following workaround may help:
Look für the file "com.apple.ScreenSharing.plist" (in your Library/Preference-Folder) and delete it.
Start Screensharing via Finder and click "Share Screen" - the other MACs Screen will appear immediately (without the black-or white screen failure). Configure the display options to your liking.
Screensharing still doesn't work using the screensharing.app (within the utilites folder).
Let's hope Apple will provide an update / bug fix soon.

I have to make an explanatory note:
on my MAC the problem with screensharing occurs when scaling (Sreensharing / Preferences / Viewing) is off. So where is no need to delete the above mentioned file but to set scaling to "on".

  • Desktop Sharing Failure with one Federated Partner

    Hi all,
We are running a single Lync 2013 FE and a single Lync 2013 Edge Server. We don't have a proxy server in the mix.
IM and presence works fine, but we are having issues with screenshare between us and all federated contacts in one domain.
Interestingly, while on VPN its fine, so it seems like its a firewall issue.
    Following the
http://www.lync-solutions.com/Documents/Lync_2013_protocol_poster_v6_7.pdf I've had the firewall team open up all the required ports, but we still get errors when attempting a screen share stating that network problems are causing it to fail. Looking at
the topology builder, I see port 444 as the default port for the web conferencing Edge service, but I can't find any documentation indicating that this has to be opened up through the firewall.
Does it need to be opened from the internet to the IP of our access edge FQDN?
    DQ

We've had the firewall support looking through the logs this past week, after replicating a screen share failure. They don't see any denies for traffic in between firewalls in the following traffic route I provided them.
Lync Federated traffic path:      our client workstation -> our Lync (internal server) – IP  -> our Lync Edge in DMZ
(internal facing NIC IP) -> (external facing NIC IP – public NAT
IP) –> And Out to the Federated Partner
When a screenshare is initiated, does the traffic still flow back and forth through the same (above) path, or could it be a different path (and trying to go directly to one of the Edge or Public (NAT)
    IP for the screenshare service?
I'm wondering if it could be a routing issue. Because of our client requirements, network has some complicated routing in place, and maybe it's not heading out to the 'internet' or back from the internet
as it should be. Still no further ahead, but hopefully eliminating some possibilities.

  • Screen sharing and home sharing makes network drop

Hi. I've upgraded to OS X Mavericks and I am having a weird network issue now. I use home sharing all the time to stream to my Apple TV and I use screensharing so I can connect from downstairs using my ipad or another computer. Every since the upgrade, If I am watching something on the Apple TV and then connect to my Macbook Pro, after a few seconds the Macbook Pro's network connection drops for a few seconds. The Apple TV loses connection to the Macbook Pro completely and my VNC app freezes for about 5-10 seconds. It eventually comes back, but this just happens over and over in a vicious cycle. Any ideas? I've tried running the Mavericks install again and fiddling with screensharing settings and VNC settings on the app, but it just seems like the two don't play well together on Mavericks. I never had any of these issues on Mountain Lion. My Macbook Pro is the late 2011 17 inch model with 16GB RAM. I also have a Belkin thunderbolt dock connected and a monitor connected to that via hdmi to mini display port. The disconnections happen whether I use the ethernet port on the Macbook or on the dock.

I've been having a similar issue since upgrading to Mavericks. I use screen sharing all the time to access my home computer from the road, but now it's hit or miss whether I can log in at all, and when I do, screen sharing eventually drops out after less than an hour.

  • Ipad SONOS app not connecting since Mountain Lion upgrade

    Hi,
Since upgrading to mountain lion, my sonos system only works from the SONOS application on the mac mini connected to the router to which a SONOS Bridge is hooked, via LAN. All my other SONOS apps (either ipad or macbook air) cannot connect to the SONOS bridge, even after resetting them.
I also had an issue with screensharing between the mac mini and the macbook air (both on Mountain Lion), since upgrading, which was resolved thanks to this forum... and was hoping resolving this would have resolved the SONOS issue as well... not the case.
So anyone with an idea what to do would be welcome! Happy to provide any other information that would be needed to help me out!
    Sebastien
P.S. I assume the SONOS system is not the issue, all SONOS apps and firmware are updated to the latest versions, and as mentioned above, I can control the SONOS equipment via the mac mini app... but just that one.

Were you running os x 10.6 before the upgrade?
Anyway photoshop cs2 won't work on mountain lion because cs2 is a PowerPC application
and mountain lion can only run intel applications natively like photoshop cs3-cc.
If you were using 10.6, then you were using rossetta, an application that allowed some powerpc programs to run on an intel mac and mountain lion doesn't have rossetta.
The current versions of photoshop available from adobe are photoshop cs6 and photoshop cc, but since cs2 is out
of the upgrade loop now, so you need to either buy the full version of photoshop cs6 or subscribe to photoshop cc.

  • Distorted Screen sharing

Has any one seen issues with screensharing on a local network to a Mac Mini (or other Mac) running the same OS? Specs are below. Image is attached.
    Mac Mini (Mid 2010)
    10.9.3
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB of RAM
    Graphics card - NVIDA GeForce 320M 256MB
    MacBook Pro (late 2008)
    Mac OS X 10.9.3
Processor  2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

Creeper74, based on several search results and reading, it seems the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB can push to the 1080p resolution that the Mac Mini is running. I am connecting remotely to the Mac Mini, so the MBP  was the resolution I looked to verify I can connect to. I am still less inclined to think that is the issue as I was previously able to connect. It seems to stem from when OS X Mav. came out, but I obviously can not pin point the exact day.
One thing I have not tried is connecting from the Mac Mini to the MacBook Pro and seeing if the same issue arises. Will test later. Still looking for any other suggestions.

  • Trouble playing files from Airdisk (wireless)

My wife and I regularly watch downloaded TV programs via my Powerbook G4. No Frontrow, no remote. My media library is set up as an Airdisk, and we patch the Powerbook to the TV and play files via Mplayer, as its buffer allows stable playback.
I was very excited to get a new MacBook Pro last week, and we were expecting to be able to play files via Frontrow stutter-free with wireless N, and (finally) have the luxury of a remote. No such luck.
Here are the problems I have been encountering:
    1) Frontrow drops frames and eventually freezes playback of files located on the Airdisk, usually after about 10 minutes.
    2) Frontrow often kills the network connection to the Airdisk when I try to access the files via the Frontrow interface (alias in Movies). Airdisk will be dropped from my "Shared" items in Finder, and remain unaccessible until I power cycle base station.
    3) Frontrow freezes, and I am forced to hard power cycle.
Is there any way to buffer playback to frontrow? I expect I am not the only user with this setup, is anyone else able to play video with Frontrow wirelessly via Airdisk?
    Thanks!

i restarted itunes and my atv2 (i was watching netflix at the time) went back to the menu as if it was disconnected from the network. however, this couldnt be repeated so maybe it was a spurious thing.
anyway, the music now plays just fine from my ipad and mbp.
its the video that will not work.
i noticed that i had to chnage the file extension of some files to "m4v" to be able to put them on the ipad (others transferred as "mp4) so i didnt know if this mattered. i was under the impression that as long as an audio or video file opened and played in itunes it could be played on any apple device (ipod, ipad, iphone, atv, etc). is this correct? if not, what format to i use when converting video to watch on my ipad or stream to atv2? i want to put my home movies on m tv as background when i am studying or otherwise occupied but just need something in the back ground.

  • Front Row

    Hope anybody can help me,
Is it possible to run een older version of frontrow under Leopard? If yes: then how? All my music is on my system and since I installed Leopard I'm not able anymore to use Frontrow in combination with Airtunes. (seems a bug under Leopard)
Hope that anybody can help me!

Sorry, but no one outside of Apple knows anything about future product releases. Anything anyone here would post would be pure speculation which isn't allowed here (the Discussions are for technical support on existing products). There are a number of rumor sites which you can read, but as to whether any rumors they report have any validity, your guess will be as good as ours.
