Frostwire/Limewire

My macbook refuses to let me open either Limewire or Frostwire. It goes through the whole startup process, then right when it finishes loading, disapears and a window comes up sometimes that just says it Quit unexpectedly and nothing else was harmed. Help! Why is it doing this and more importantly how can I fix it?

I've used both Limewire and FrostWire on my Mac and I found both to be pretty buggy. My guess would be a problem with Java, but I'm not really sure.
I personally would just delete both Apps and use Cabos. It is an open source P2P program that uses the same network as LimeWire and FrostWire, but designed specifically for OS X (a windows version is now available, too)

LimeWire/FrostWire?

For some reason LimeWire and FrostWire aren't working with iTunes. Whenever I click on the respective folders it always says "The shared library "Frostwire/Limewire Tunes" is not compatible with this version of iTunes." and even if I change the shared folders or move the file to another location, it still won't work.

Sorry, those programs are not made by Apple and are essentially illegal sources of pirated material and are not safe for your computer. I would advise that you not use them.

Limewire, frostwire issues

I am having issues using limewire or frostwire. When I open the application it just closes. I asked both companies and they don't know. its not the programs, its something with my MacBook. Any ideas? i am running Leopard on here. Thanks for any help.

i had the same problem after updating from 4.17.0 to 4.17.1 it would just shut off without opening and disappear. backed up and restored with time machine to a previous day and now it works fine

Safari app is gone from my mac and it wont reinstall!my daughter put frostwire and I think i uninstalled it but safari is gone now i cant open any emails that have links to the!help!

I have Lost my safari app from my my, my daughter downloaded frostwire toolbar, and safari icon wouldnt respond , so i uninstalled frostwire and still could not get safari to respond, then i reset safari and lost everything, i tried to ininstall it from apple , it says successful, then i click on it and it asks me do i want to install, but thats it it never installs... I have all my busniness bookmarks and study bookmarks, arghhhh! also when i click on my email and try to open a link it clisks on a blank safari page then shuts down with an error sign?

Frostwire is a version of the now defunct Limewire, built as a not-for-profit project, and its developers claim it will never support DRM or any type of advertising. With the threatening cloud of lawsuits gobbling up P2P clients one at a time and forcing them to go legit, Frostwire’s future is in the balance.
In other words, like Limewire and other bit-torrent clients, it is software for illegal file sharing and/or downloads of pirated or even doctored software, and like other P2P probably a major source of malware.

Then repair permissions and restart your Mac.

LimeWire "Internal Errors"

I'm getting "internal errors" constantly and its forever freezing. I have to force quit every time I use it. Its not a Universal program, but I expected it to run better than this. Any fixes?

It is a universal program. Limewire is a universal P2P client as 4.11 in beta form. Otherwise, use frostwire.
Hope one of those suggestions resolves your issues. If not, you might have compiled a newer version of PPC Limewire atop another. Spotlight "limew" and delete everything.
Download a new version - either 4.11 or 4.10.9 again. You'll be fine.

FrostWire/Safari Issue?

So since LimeWire is no longer available for use I moved to FrostWire, but it turns out this was a bad idea. After I downloaded FrostWire I instantly had problems with Safari. Safari would open but there would be no window and I couldn't open a window. When I quit or try to open a tab I get:
"The application Safari quit enexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the ct_plugins plug-in.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected."
and then I can either choose ignore, report, or relaunch.
I've gone looking for FrostWire files and I'm PRETTY sure I've sent them all to the trash and then emptied the trash. I still have the broken safari on my computer because I wasn't sure if that would be any help.
I bough my mac in Fall 2008. It's a 13" Aluminum MacBook. I have Safari 5.0.2 and if you need to know more I kindly ask you to be patient in asking for the information and telling me where to find it because chances are I don't know.
Any tips how to get safari going again?

Thanks a lot andyball_uk; I did exactly what you said and my problem was fixed. Jacshalo92, you need to get into your "Macintosh HD" folder (on the desktop) and then seek for the "Library" folder, and the begin to delete the stuff that andyball_uk said:

however I did not find the SIMBL... whatever thing. Anyway when deleting these files I could open my Safari browser again. I hope this can help you solve the issue; but if it does not, you can download Google Chrome (for mac) on another laptop and copy the .dmg file into a USB and then installing it on your mac so that you can get into internet. If you need your Safari bookmarks you can open your wrecked browser and click on: File/Export Bookmarks.

[REQUEST] frostwire

Hi all, i'm looking for a PKGBUILD for frostwire. Frostwire is a fork of limewire, because they had to build in filters because they where sued by the RIAA.
I tried to do the job myself, but im pretty unfamiliar with this java stuff, maybe someone more experienced then me can have a look on it.

You can get the source there, but there is no real documentation available for installing frostwire from source.

It barely needs a PKGBUILD - I've just untarred it and run it from a dir below $HOME, although I did need to chmod the start-up script. Anyway, here you go:

Limewire problems

Hi, i am having problems with limewire and as a result i tried frostwire. both refuse to load the user interface correctly, and I suspect it may be a java issue. i have posted a seperate question on the Java issue, but wondered if anyone has any guidance for limewire or frostwire for me. i have posted in the gnutella forums but never get a reply.
I have th latest version and it ran fine for a long time.
Please help if you can.

Hi wayne, Ok before i go any further let me say that i have re-installed my "humour" module and all is now well at this end (sorry).
here goes.
I have tried the following
trashing all reference to the limewire/frostwire software, preferences included.
Re-installed Limewire.
confirmed my java installation (now running 1.5.0_06)
tested my java installation (all tests out OK)
The only thing I can think of that may have impacetd things in the first place is that I installed a program called "application enhancer". I have tried to delete all reference to this software, but i can't as it tells me it is in use when I try to empty the trash. I tried to force quit this application but it doesn't appear in the list in force quit. may not be related of course.
I have also been having problems with some chat rooms, in that the room either doesn't open or is corrupted in some way. All these sites are java based. Strangely i tried to open one with IE instead of opera, safari, or firefox, and it worked ????
I have thought for a while that this may be java based, but had no luck in posting a thread about that except that someone gave me a link to a test facility that tested out fine. i assumed that eliminated java as a problem area??
does this help at all?

I had errors with the chmod statements.
This may be a little more suitable to arch using an underscore in the version instead of leaving the trailing proprietary release field empty and lowercase letters for the pkgname.
This one is a little tricky though. Best ask a TU for the proper PKGBUILD before submitting to aur.

Can't get my Limewire music into iTunes - get an error message

I downloaded some music from Limewire, in my iTunes shared folder, it give an error message that it wont work with the iTunes upgrade, how can I get these songs into my iTunes library? Thanks

Find the folder to which Limewire saves the downloads. From there you can then drag the tracks to the iTunes window.
Don't Steal! Please make sure that all content (music, movies, etc.) you obtain from P2P networks is legal, not pirated. Most content on P2P networks such as Limewire is there illegally.

My last computer died, but we've been able to transfer my files onto an external hard drive to put onto my new computer.I have now got exclamation marks next to 100 songs which I downloaded from Frostwire years ago. How can I fix this?

I cannot find the files on my new computer, and cannot remember where they were saved to on my old computer as it was over 3 years ago. I have also tried to consolidate the files as I've found people suggested, but that is not working. I have also read that you should tell itunes that you are moving the music, but my old laptop cannot be read when it is on. Is there any other way tofix this issue? I don't want to have to buy over 100 songs which I already have.

How can i transfer songs from limewire onto itunes???

OK...so i have limewire and i dont know how to copy them into itunes i know that you like press shift and then drag it into itunes but i dont know the details of how to do it and i really nedd help. i beg of YOU

the way i do it, and im a perfectionist so this might not interest you. but i always want my music files organized. so i dont copy right into iTunes. I go to the original file location where iTunes has stored all the other music, and i create a new folder for the songs that i am putting into iTunes. Then after i put the music in that folder, i drag that folder into iTunes. This way, I always know where that music is if i ever want to transfer it to another computer.

not sure what you did, did right, or did not do...
start with looking at the location of files. in the advanced tab, does it show the path to your music files?
If so, then try FILE > ADD FOLDER TO LIBRARY

Help! LimeWire will not work on my Mac mini 10.4.11 now that i cleaned it out and had to get the new LimeWire. It keeps asking for Java 1.6 but I'm having no luck. :O( LimeWire was the reason I bought a Mac!

Very weird day in Firefoxland
First on a Powerbook G4 running 10.4.11 I respond to an invitation to upgrade to Firefox 4 (like a lot of others). Long story short, I wind up losing the browser altogether -- including all bookmarks. Why? Because neither the Firefox homepage (or CNET downloads) makes it clear that 4.0 is for OS 10.5 only! Amazing!
Then I try to register to post a reply in a thread that crits Firefox for not making this System Requirements info upfront clear. But the Register page I’m taken to (https://support.mozilla.com/bs/users/register) is in SERBO-CROATIAN!!
Then I try to log into Chat a couple of times and when it’s not CLOSED its a long line waiting and THEN it closes.
WOW!! Are the wheels off the wagon here or what!?!
