Froze and sound unbalaced

I recently purchased a 8GIG 3rd Generation iPod Nano from Hong Kong, China. This was the sweetest thing that I have ever brought or included in my iPod collection.
I currently have the following iPods:
1Gig - 1st Generation iPod Nano (given to me by my TD Canada Trust Bank)
2Gig - 2nd Generation iPod Nano (I have purchased from Apple Store Online)
4Gig - Ipod Mini (Battery issue, don`t know why Apple won`t voluntarily re-call them)
8Gig - 3rd Generation iPod Nano (Brand new; aquired on November 11th, 2007)
The 8Gig - 3rd Generation iPod Nano froze when I was watching a movie on my iPod. I had to do a hardreset, but it did resolve the issue and then I noticed that the sound was different in my headphones. My left channel was louder than my right channel; I thought it was my headphones, so I plug those same headphones I was using in my iPod into my laptop and yes those headphones sound perfectly balanced.
I have took my 8Gig - 3rd Generation iPod Nano to the Local Service department in Beijing, China. I was very smart to print out the warranty information from the Self Service Online thingy on Apple's webpage. I showed them it was brand new and still under-warranty; I had it less than a month and I'm disgusted, so I told them to give me a new iPod. They told me it will take them until this Friday for me to get a new iPod. Also if I see a scratch on the chrome surface, I am going to tell them to give me a new one, because I have bought an accessory cover that will protect my iPod from nicks and sratches. I bought one for every iPod that I have in my collection.
Quick Finish: This new iPod failed to meet my expectations in less than a month. Froze on me when I was watching a movie and now the sound; left channel is higher than the right channel. 2 / 5 rating

I have to say that i have literally done the same, following the installation instructions to the letter and...
the language menu came up on connecting to the pc and it has frozen solid, resets won't work at all and windows keeps returning an unrecognisable/usb has failed error message. have uninstalled/reinstalled twice and sworn a lot.
Any real solutions would be useful.

  • My Ipod touch recently fell into water, but once dried, it worked with seemingly little to no problems. Today, after working for at least an hour, the screen froze and is now not working, but the sounds are still functioning.

I accidentally dropped my Ipod into the lake, at the beach yesterday, but i caught it early and it wasn't too soaked... i wiped it off for the most part, and most of the buttons and the screen worked fine! i was shocked, and there were a few glitches with the camera and the slide button on the lock screen, but otherwise it was greatly intact! so i gave it a rest, put it in my purse, and picked it up fifteen minutes later, and it was working 100% normally again! when i got home a few hours later, i put it in rice for a few hours, taking it out every once and a while to check my notifications... it still seemed to be working perfectly, so i just set it down out of the rice, assuming the moisture was gone. this morning, again, everything was working normally, no glitches, UNTIL, i opened my instagram app, and the screen froze, and it seemed like it had two separate screens, and i held the Sleep button down until the screen went black... then i tried turning it back on, etc. and it still didn't work, and so i plugged it into the computer, holding down the sleep and home buttons, and itunes identified it as in recovery mode, and started updating. i tried again to press the sleep and home butttons, maybe pressing only the home button, because I heard the Siri noise, as well as the charging sound, but the screen was still black.... i checked my iTunes, and lo and behold, it had identified my iPod, and synced it to the computer, as if it were normally functioning. However, the screen is still not working, and Siri is not working either. The sounds may be the only thing that's functioning. Should i send it in?

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Video froze and loud screeching sound

Last nite I was watching a video using iTunes and about halfway through it the video froze and a very loud, annoying screeching sound came through the speakers. I tried to quit iTunes but the entire system was frozen. Only way to stop that screeching noise was to hold down the power key on my MBP and shut it down. After a few moments I rebooted and the MBP seems to be running fine now.
I haven't added any ram or anything else to my MBP in a couple years. Mac Hardware Test says no problems.
    Anyone else ever experience this?

Sounds like you should contact Apple and get the drive replaced. In the mean time, backup DAILY!

    Hi,
It's quite possible that there is a hardware fault with the capacitive strip - is your notebook still under warranty?
Regarding the Audio controls, try the following and let me know..
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48501-49000/sp48668.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

  • Ipod froze and now it keeps telling me my password is incorrect.

I have a 3rd generation itouch and today it froze and then later when i went to unlock it, it keep saying incorrect password. i have connected it to my computer and im able to sync it but i have not been able to find a way to unlock it from itunes. Please help

It sounds like you forgot the passcode required to unlock the iPod for use. Sometimes iPod tend to have a passcode set due to corruption. Try placing it in recovery mode and restoring it via itunes. You may have to restore to factory defaults/new iPod. Tp place n recovery mode see:

    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning ! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

  • My macbook froze and won't reboot

I was using the RGB cable with the VGA adaptor to show a movie and my macbook froze in the process. I had to hold the power button down to get it to turn off, but when I pressed it again to reboot, all I my macbook does is that sound it does when it's trying to spit out a cd or dvd. I tried rebooting 5 times, and I still get the same result. My macbook has been acting up lately, where it freezes and tells me to hold down the power button, but this time it simply froze and I can't get a reboot.
In the prior week I used the Disk Utility to repair the disk, but that didnt seem to help, even after repairing it like 5 times.
Is there any hope to restore my macbook? Please help.

When the system tells you to restart with the power button that is a kernel panic.
Kernel panics are general caused by hardware problems, most frequently problems with RAM.
My suggestion is to boot from the install DVD and run AHT.
Report back any error you get.

  • Macbook Air froze and now won't properly restart.

I was watching a video today on my Macbook Air on iTunes. It has been working properly.
It suddenly froze and the escape key did not work. I forced a shut down.
When I tried to power it up again, it appears to start-- the apple glows on the front cover, etc. But instead of a boot, all that happens is that a small magnifying glass appeared in the upper right corner of an otherwise black screen. Hitting escape caused a "please wait" cursor to appear, but when it disappeared, nothing else happened.
I can't seem to shut it all the way down now, only make it sleep. None of the key combinations work. When it unsleeps, I'm back to the black screen with the magnifying glass.
No spills, no nothing. Any ideas? I have the idea if I could make it shut down properly it might resolve itself, but this could be just wishful thinking. Could this be a display issue?
    Thanks.
    Cheryl
    OS10.6

    Hey Cheryl,
Within the MacBook Air users guide, I found a section that should be able to help you out starting on page 41. I copied the relevant information below, and you can find the full user guide here:
    MacBook Air User Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/MacBook_Air_Users_Guide.pdf
If your MacBook Air freezes during startup, or you see a flashing question mark, or the display is dark and the sleep indicator light is glowing steadily (not in sleep) The flashing question mark usually means that the computer can’t find the system software on the hard disk or on any disks attached to the computer.
Wait a few seconds. If the computer still doesn’t start up, shut it down by pressing and holding the power button for about 8 to 10 seconds. Disconnect all external peripherals and try restarting by pressing the power button while holding down the Option key. When your computer starts up, click the hard disk icon, and then click the right arrow. After the computer starts up, open System Preferences and click Startup Disk. Select a local Mac OS X System folder.
If that doesn’t work, try using Disk Utility to repair the disk. For more information, see “Using Disk Utility” on page 49.
If your MacBook Air doesn’t turn on or start up
Try the following suggestions in order until your computer turns on:
Make sure the power adapter is plugged into the computer and into a functioning power outlet. Be sure to use the 45W MagSafe Power Adapter that came with your MacBook Air. If the power adapter stops charging and you don’t see the indicator light on the power adapter turn on when you plug in the power cord, try unplugging and replugging the power cord to reseat it.
Check whether the battery needs to be recharged. If the light on the power adapter glows amber, the battery is charging. See “Running Your MacBook Air on Battery Power” on page 34.
If the problem persists, return the computer to its factory settings by pressing the left Shift key, left Option (alt) key, left Control key, and the power button simultaneously for five seconds.
Press and release the power button and immediately hold down the Command, Option, P, and R keys simultaneously until you hear the startup sound a second time. This resets the parameter RAM (PRAM).
If you still can’t start up your MacBook Air, see “Learning More, Service, and Support” on page 53 for information about contacting Apple for service.
    Hope that helps,
    David

  • Computer froze and cant startup

my old ibook suddenly froze and I had to shut it down using the power switch.
when I try too start pressing power on button I get a sound like the fan whiring continuously and nothing!
AWhat can I Do zif anything at start up?
    Help gratefully accepted

    Hello again and thank you!
On 3 occasions I´ve reset and it starts up ok - warns me the clock is now out of date.
Then I can do a few trackpad or mouse moves and it freezes but the screen or window open stays there - doesn´t go blnk.
    No loud whirring noises now.
1- If it´s GPU - I can relate to this - 4 years ago I dropped the machine and the screen became fuzzy and all windows were as if I was looking at a 3D movie without glasses! I literally dropped the computer from a height of 3 inches and it corrected itself. (4 years of borrowed time!) I was acting on advice that some ´balls´ near and underneath the trackpad had become separated from their soldered bedding. (or was I dreaming that?)
    2. If hard drive - which disk should I use to start up? I have the original disks ie install 1,2 and 3. Or do I have to use some other?
I think a 10 year old ibook is about to become  dead parrot. I think I have to reconcile myself to that. Anyway it is a tribute to Apple´s engineering that I have had 10 years high productivity out of it.
I´d appreciate any further thoughts or help with rebooting from disk but I´m aware you should be enjoying your Sunday!
    Many thanks
    Gordon

I updated my Macbook Pro last week to Lion.  I went to go import pictures from a memory card to my iPhoto, but only a portion of them loaded before my iPhoto froze and I had to Force Quit it. Now iPhoto won't even open... Help!
Please! I need an answer fast!!!!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
