Frozen 13" MacBook

Tonight my 13" MacBook froze. The screen dimmed and a black box came up that said "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again." I don't know what to do. I was running iPhoto, Safari, and Mail when it happened. The black screen that came up was also in 4 other languages. The nearest Apple store to me is 2 hours away. I bought the computer in November 2009. It was refurbished in December 2012 due to water damage. I've never had this problem with my 17" MacBook Pro that I've had since August 2006. I'm not sure which operating system I'm running on it.

This is known as a kernel panic - pretty much, your computer crashed. This can be cause by software or hardware. I would turn off the computer by holding down the power button, then turn it back on, but as soon as your press the power button, hold down the Command, Option, P, and R keys. This will reset what is called the PRAM. More detailed instructions can be found here. Hopefully this will solve your issue, but more than likely it will happen again. I would try to take it to the Apple Store if you get a chance, or you may have an Apple Authorized Service Provider closer. You can find the nearest one here.

App Store totally frozen on Macbook Pro

Hi
When I started on my new macbook for the first time, I was simply checking to ensure everything was in order.
Until I wanted to download some apps from the App Store, but it appeared to become frozen when I tried to update. Any ideas to fix this issue?

I already have tried that too.
Whenever I attempt to log out, restart or even shut down, App Store cancel that request and simply ask me to quit App Store that I cannot even try to quit App Store.
Last thing I am thinking is to let the battery carry on till it shut down itself.

Calendar frozen on Macbook Pro with Yosemite

Hi
When trying to sync calendars on my Macbook Pro with iPhone 4S, calendars has frozen with message "Moving calendars to server account". I have to force quit to get out. Syncing had been working fine until 2 days ago. All settings on Macbook and phone are correct.
Any suggestions?

Quit Calendar and also the Reminders application, if it's running. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data.
In the iCloud preference pane, uncheck the boxes marked Calendars and Reminders. You'll be prompted to confirm that you want to delete your iCloud calendars and reminders from the computer. They'll still be on iCloud.
Relaunch Calendar and select
Calendar ▹ Preferences... ▹ Accounts
Click the plus-sign button at the bottom of the account list on the left (which may now be empty) to add a new account. Select iCloud and enter your credentials. Your iCloud calendars should appear after a brief delay.
Do the same with Reminders.

Frozen Screen MacBook Air

Hello, need help.
My MacBook Air screen stays frozen like it is loading to get started it but nothing happens. I had turn off and on but it goes back to tha same screen.

Which OS X is installed?

I began the download/install for 10.7.2 and it appears to have frozen my macbook pro. Should I force a reboot?

It just says moving items into place. It has been spinning for some time at about 70%. Wondering if I shuold force a shutdown and restart.

First things first, did you backed up your data?
I would let it stay for the night to see what happens, if by tomorrow the computer is still stuck at 70% I would suggest calling Apple to see what would be the appropiate steps to troubleshoot the issue. Their number is 1-800-MY-APPLE.

Mouse and keyboard frozen on macbook

my wife has an macbook it is probably about 4 years old. I have problems with it before were I have had to totally whipe the computer our and reboot it, after I did that I updated software, (not current software) shortly after that the mouse and keyboard froze up. I cant seem to get it to work. I have rebooted it thinking that would work. I have placed cardboard and peices of paper between the mouse bad and battery thinking that might help if the battery warped over time. Nothing has worked. I am hoping there is some sort of home remedy that I can do falling short of taking it to a mac store and paying out of the ying yang to get it fixed. Any ideas?

You could try this; Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode.
It takes awhile to come up.

I've been having some Airplay problems for a while and all of the other forum posts or articles I've found online haven't helped. Here's a complete list of what works and what doesn't as well as my current WLAN settings.
Any ideas would be incredibly appreciated!

Apple TV is on wifi (setup doesn't really allow for it to be wired)

Very responsive internet and wifi in every context except Airplay

Resolve performance issues with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring
If you are experiencing intermittent playback or significant network lag with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring, it could be due to a weak Wi-Fi connection, interference, or the distance between the Wi-Fi router and your iOS device, Apple TV or AirPort Express.
Try these suggestions:
Ensure that other devices are not trying to stream to the same Apple TV at the same time.
Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is set up with the recommended settings for the best performance.
Certain external devices, such as microwave ovens and baby monitors, may interfere with a Wi-Fi network. Try moving or disabling these devices.
If possible, try to locate your Wi-Fi router in the same room as your iOS device and Apple TV.
If your wireless and wired networks are the same, try connecting your Apple TV to the router via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
If the Wi-Fi router has an external antenna, check to see that is it connected properly and in good condition.

Try Force Quit.
Press command + option + esc keyboard keys together at the same time.
Wait.
When Force Quit window appears, select Mail if not already.
Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window.
Wait.
Mail will quit.

I would start your troubleshooting with the article below for issues of not being able to log in to your Mac. Start with booting up in to Safe Boot as well as resetting PRAM on your Mac. If that does not work, then verify the hard drive with booting to the Recover HD and go to Disk Utility to verify it.

If the MBA is within 14 days of the purchase date from an Apple sore, you may return it for a refund or an exchange.

We can't help you if you don't even know what you are installing. Never install anything if you do not know what it is. Installings through Software Update always have explanations which you should be reading to see if you actually need and/or want them.
That being said, it appears you attempted to upgrade to Mavarick. Although I am not positive.
Sorry, I am going to back out of this because I nor you know what it was you installed. Hopefully, someone else will chime in here.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
